We've used AHS a few times now and have had good experiences each time. They are not the cheapest service available but you can rest assured that the quality will be top notch. They can get booked up quickly however so try to get an estimate as early as you can to ensure the work can be done when you need it to be. In our latest case, Chris came out a couple of times based on a few different requests that we had but due to a family emergency we had to postpone. Once we called back, Chris was able to prioritize the work and fit us in within a couple of weeks. The fence looks great and clearly far more secure than it had been prior to that section coming down (the fence that came down was actually our neighbors which had been serving as ours as well). In addition to doing good work, Chris also went out of his way to send a sympathy card after hearing about one of our dogs passing away. It was very touching, clearly not part of what is expected from a handyman service, and I think indicates just how much character Chris (and thus his company) has. We will certainly be using AHS in the future!
Description of Work: AHS put up lattice under our deck to make it safe for a new puppy and built a new section of full privacy fencing after Hurican Sandy came through and knocked down a 40' section.

Chris came over and checked out the situation with the toilet and we talked about what we wanted to do with the renovation for the bathroom. He came back to us, in a timely manner, with an estimate and timeline for the completed job. Chrisgave us some recommendations on where to buy tiles and fixtures, which we used and were very happy with the results. We agreed to the contract. Dan and Josh showed up for the demo work, which was completed in one day. They began rebuilding the sub floor, adding the new plywood and green board, roughed in the plumbing, and installed the green board for the walls. In the process of the reno we talked about some issues with humidity and recessed lights in the room and we decided to install the light in a hallway. Whenever there was an issue or problem that arouse, Dan was incredible in figuring out how to come up with the right solution. He and Josh always had cool heads and respected our space. They controlled the dust and debris so while the job was being completed we were always comfortable in our house. We are very happy with their work and will use them again in many projects we have in mind.
Description of Work: The house is a late 1920s cape with original bathroom with no reno work pre-existing. Our bathroom remodel started with a leaking toilet. We found out that the floor had been damaged and the old tiles were starting to heave. We decided to demo the room and replace all the tile work, turn the toilet, strip and clear coat the radiator, change out the light fixtures and upgrade the plumbing. In the process of renovation, the sub floor was repaired and new marble tiles were installed. An intricate stone tile design and niche were added to the bathtub area and new paint for the remaining wall and ceiling.

From start to finish they were done in just a couple of weeks, everyday there was work going on and they were great about cleaning up at the end of each day. We ran into some issues with wiring not being up to code, but they handled those problems and kept us informed the whole time with progress reports. Things couldn't have gone smoother and they were right on time and on budget. Dan the project foreman, (who is also a master carpenter) and Josh his apprentice were just terrific and super easy to talk to and ask questions. That why we have nominated them for the page of happiness!
Description of Work: We had Arlington Home Service tackle some smaller projects for us around our house a few years ago and they did such a great job, when we decided to renovate our kitchen they were the first company we called to see if they could help out. Chris the owner came out and took a look at what we were thinking about doing, we have a small kitchen and he gave us some good suggestions, he said they specialize in working with small kitchens and maximizing the space, we can't believe the end result! They don't directly sell the cabinets, or counters, or appliances, but were helpful in pointing us to different local companies that do and were great in coordinating all the deliveries and installs so things ran smoothly.

I contacted Chris (the owner) to ask his availability for a repair. He was able to fit me in quickly. Because of the many steps involved, including allowing the cinderblock to dry out, the process took about a week of a few hours a day. The best thing about working with AHS is that Chris is superb at communicating with his customers. Each day, I knew which craftsman would be coming to the house and when. Each day, the craftsman cleaned up before leaving. Each craftsman that he employs is top notch. Great experience.
Description of Work: AHS removed part of a plaster wall that had water damage, dri-locked the cinderblock, reframed and drywalled it, primed and painted. They also repaired a plaster crack in the ceiling of another room. I have used them before and was pleased once again with their responsiveness, professionalism and skill.

They are home improvement contractors and they are really good guys. They are busy, so as far as responsiveness is concerned, they don’t come as fast as we wish they would but we would give them an A for responsiveness because they are good and they are busy. We would rate them highly and would use them again in the future.

We're getting our townhouse ready to sell so called AHS about some repairs around the house (carpet work, plumbing, replacing light fixtures, drywall repair). Chris came by the house and met with my husband about our job. He then sent us an estimate and we got on his schedule for a Friday. In between the time we got the estimate and the scheduled repairs, we had some changes to the jobs that needed done. Chris was completely flexible and just charged us for what they actually did (instead of what the estimate originally called for). On the day of, Chris and Dan showed up on time and I walked them through the house to review what needed done. Chris left Dan at the house and he was able to do most of the repairs on that day. I was home the whole time but don't think I needed to be. Dan came back Monday afternoon and finished the plumbing project and drywall repair. Then later that week when the weather was warmer, they painted a portion of our roof. They were very professional and easy to work with. Chris was very responsive through email and phone. I will definitely use them again in my new house. :)

Overall, the quality of the work was very good. Dan, the guy who did the work was always very professional and efficient and provided what I thought was good advice when I asked him about other projects. When finishing the closet off I thought it would just involve some drywall but Dan talked to me about fixing some squeaking that was going on in the stairs as a result of them having not been put in as well as they could have been. He adjusted what he was doing to stop the squeaking, which was obviously above expectations but much appreciated! There were issues getting things scheduled but the owner was out of town at the time so wasn't as easy to reach, and while a bit frustrating, everything did eventually get worked out. Because of the scheduling issue though what we thought was going to be an easy day job ended up taking parts of 3 different days. In the end, I would certainly hire them again due to the quality of the work above all else. We did receive quotes on a few other projects but having done so much work during this time (we had just bought the house) we now need some time to save up for the rest of the projects. AHS will certainly be on our short list in the future however.
Description of Work: AHS replaced 3 toilets in all bathrooms and finished in a space under our stairwell so that we gained a much needed closet.

Description of Work: Chris helped us with several different tasks, the most significant work relating to some masonry work we needed done to prevent our basement from flooding again. From the beginning of the project to it's completion, Chris, Dan, Brandon, and Jason were amazing. I'm convinced these guys can do anything. Chris met with me at the beginning of the project to listen to my plans for my kitchen, give me some suggestions, and provide me with an estimate (which he completely honored). After I had ordered all of my cabinets and appliances, Brandon and Jason removed the walls and installed the hardwood flooring. Dan and Jason installed the support beams. Dan then did the electrical work, installed the cabinets and appliances, and completed the HVAC work. From start to finish, a kitchen remodeling in 3 weeks. It's hard to find a contracting team that you can trust, works well together, and really cares about doing a quality job. I've got several projects coming up (tile and backsplash work, attic stairs and flooring, etc.) and will be using these guys for those as well. A first class group.
Description of Work: I had my kitchen completely remodeled by Arlington Home Service. In detail here's what they did for me: Removed 4 walls, added additional support beams, and installed and patched the drywall. Installed a dedicated 120V line for my new over the range microwave and relocated the lighting switches and outlets that were on the old walls. Installed new hardwood flooring. Installed my new cabinets and appliances (range, dishwasher, refrigerator, and over the range microwave). Installed new wiring for under cabinet lighting. Brought my existing outlets up to code by installing GFCI outlets. Relocated my microwave duct and converted another duct into a toe kick vent.

We asked Arlington Home Service to replace a door that we had, as well as patch a hole in our garage ceiling. The man giving the estimate underestimated the complexity of the job, and didn't send the handyman out with the materials needed. The handy man had to come back a second time to do the job the right way. In the end, the door was installed, but the frame around it was not painted (which we had not been told beforehand). He never fixed the hole in the garage ceiling (we were able to take that out of the price) - again we were not told that before hand. We had not been asked about what to do with the old door and frame - we were told at the end that removing them was not in the estimate, so we were left with a big pile of junk to get rid of on our own. So after two visits, the door was installed, but the job wasn't completely finished, as we were still left with a frame to paint and trash to dispose of. Both of these things we would have been willing to pay for if asked.
Description of Work: We asked Arlington Home service to replace a door that we had, as well as to patch a hole in our garage ceiling. After two visits, the door was installed, but the frame was not painted. They did not patch the hole in the ceiling - we were informed at the end of the second visit that they did not have time, and that it would cost more than expected. After our experience with the door, we did not schedule another time for them to come out and patch the ceiling.

Response from Arlington Home Service
I feel terrible that this member had a bad experience with our service. I think our record of great customer service with all of our clients, (Whether they are Angies List members or not..) speaks for itself. Actually I'm caught off guard by this review, as we asked before we left at the end of the project, if the client had any questions or concerns about the work completed and was told no. To address the members comments listed in the report; This project involved switching out a door separating a "walk-out" (Basement) garage from the interior of the home itself. I did not anticipate that the foundation wall would crumble in spots as the old door and jambs were removed, or that the framing hidden behind the door was in such bad shape, this added to the amount of time necessary to complete the work...(It's also important to note that the added labor and material cost for this extra work, was not passed on to the client, as we strive to always honor our estimates.) It took us two trips as we were not allowed to start at the home until 1pm each visit. If we could have started at 8am and worked for a full day the job would have been completed in a day. I don't send my guys out with the materials, as they prefer to review the work first, (Especially when there is demo involved.) before heading to pick up the necessary supplies. Painting the frame and the issue of the left over refuse is my fault for not mentioning beforehand and discussing with the client. (Also my guy should have asked if they wanted the frame painted, it would not have been a problem at all to tackle for no added cost.) WIth the leftover material, we offered to haul the debris away for a fee, (As I am charged a fee by my collection company.) we were told not to worry about it, so I had my guy carry all the debris to the curb and offer to contact the county to set up a special pick-up.. We did run out of time to patch the ceiling and unfortunately, I did mis-judge how complicated of a task it would have been to repair. Enough so that the estimate for this portion of work I had given was to low. I passed along the added cost estimate, (Which was my cost--no profit added, as I felt bad for mis-judging the work--which is extremely rare..) and was told no thanks, as this client has already mentioned, I made sure that this charge was dropped from the final invoice. In conclusion, I did make mistakes in not explaining the entire process to the client, or the potential pitfalls that might be lurking, which is part of any home renovation project. I will do a better job in the future of making sure that everyone, (Including my employees.) is on the same page and understands what the work entails and what their responsibilities are. I really liked them. In fact I have referred them to other people. They were very responsive and professional. I also liked that they are a local business. They were punctual. They were great with the after clean up. In fact they offered to put off the bill. The guy worked really hard on it and they offered to take it off which was really great. I would be calling them again because I have a whole list of things to be done. So we have to have a thing going. I will use their services again in the future.
Description of Work: I used Arlington Home Service. I last used their services sometime in June. They did some handyman and carpentry work. They did my damaged floor. I had a hole patched in the wall and they put a panel in over some plumbing. They also did some minor carpentry work like they leveled off a couple of doors that were uneven and things like that.

Just purchased my first condo, and had a variety of handyman-style tasks I could have done myself, on which I did not want to spend the time. Arlington Home Service ("AHS") took care of all for me.... and I could not be more pleased with Chris, the business owner, and Dan, the service professional. AHS re-tracked and re-hung a sliding closet door that had been mangled by the previous owner, added an electrical outlet to my utility closet, changed around the light switches in my bedroom and bath, which the electrical contractors originally ordered incorrectly, and repaired a connection between a wall switch and an electrical outlet that had died. I had asked AHS to install a dimmer switch in the dining room, but when Dan got here, he showed me that there already was one... a discrete little sliding gadget that I had not noticed before. When he ran out to pick up some supplies he would need, he even came back with some incandescent light bulbs because the CFLs I had installed in the dining area would not work with the dimmer switch. It was such a nice touch, along with fast, clean, and courteous service -- and honesty! as Dan could have installed a new dimmer switch without me ever being the wiser -- that will make me an AHS client for as long as I live in this area. Will have AHS back soon to shelve my closets and do some light carpentry... and will refer them to all of my friends.

These guys were great. I remember it was a really hot day outside. The exterior work they were doing had everyone steamy. All of the doors were removed and taken outside for sanding as well to reduce the debris inside. Everyone was courteous, professional, and even nice to my dog. The work was done quickly and I'm very happy with all results.
Description of Work: The guys performed various odd jobs around my house: 1. Removed existing outside shutters and installed new ones along with a window flower box (brick exterior) 2. Re-secured a mailbox 3. Repaired plaster around front door and repaint 4. Repaired ceiling and wall in bathroom and ceiling in spare bedroom and repainted all areas of work 5. Repair 4 interior doors to close and latch properly I have an older home so the doors no longer shut due to warping and house settling. All wall/ceiling repair work was also more difficult due to the age of the home because they were working with plaster instead of drywall.

Arlington Home Service did a great job!! The cabinet they created/modified looks like it was there from when the cabinets were first installed! It is such a pleasure having the microwave at the proper level (20" over the cooktop vs. 12") - it really opens up the space. Everything was completed within a reasonable amount of time and at the estimated price.
Description of Work: Microwave was too close to the cooktop (about 12 inches). Arlington home service took out the cabinet above the microwave, created a new smaller cabinet, installed a new microwave (including moving the outlet, reattaching the vent), painted, and cut the doors to match the new cabinet size.
