They are prompt, courteous, and professional. They answer any questions I might have.
Description of Work: Annual service contract for furnace and A/C. They check furnace in the fall and A/C in spring. Flexible scheduling. Prompt and on time, and if not I will get a call telling me they will be late. Service contract enables me to call if either is not working properly and they will come out that very day.

We have used Arlington Heating since 1997 to install and maintain the heating systems in our last two houses. They have become a trusted partner with us for all of our maintenance and upgrades. In our prior house, we had an in-floor, hydronic heating system that ran off of a boiler. The hot water heater was also run off of the boiler. It was a very complex system with multiple zones. Doug became an expert on our system. They made sure he was the technician who responded to almost every call in our house over the next 14 years. When we moved to a new house and needed a new, two zone furnace and air conditioning system, we called on Arlington and they installed two new systems, including new ductwork in half of the house. They completed the installation on time and on budget. Over the last 15 years we have called on them for advice on any heating and air conditioning questions we have. Tommy is incredibly responsive - regardless of whether or not the question generates revenue. We can't say enough good things about this firm.

Arlington Heating & Air Conditioning has been taking care of my AC and Heating system since 1998. Their work has always been excellent and the staff professional and friendly. I have seen some of the same technicians over 10 years and they know my system. I have spoken with Tommy on several occasions for advice and recommendations on equipment and he has always been helpful and has saved me money where he can. They have maintained my system on a service contract and have always been out when i called even after hours if need be.

I've been a contract customer for Arlington Heating and Air Conditioning for two years but I will not be renewing. Although I was very happy with the customer service in the past, the management has changed over and I've been disappointed with how things have been handled recently. Several weeks ago I contacted the company to see if I could get a new booster pump installed during my Fall service check. I spoke to Jessica, who told me emphatically (and incorrectly) that a technician would have to look at the pump in person before being able to install a new one, and that would have to be done on a separate visit. When I asked if I could send in pictures so I could avoid taking an extra day off work, she gave me the general e-mail account contact@arlingtonheating.com. A week later I still received no response to my two e-mails to the general e-mail address. When I called the office, a receptionist said the e-mail address was not being monitored and the person who checks it was on vacation. It seemed odd that a company (that obviously had people checking the phones) wouldn't check its main e-mail address or at least send out an auto-reply telling people to call instead. Anyway I was told I needed to talk to the company's owner/VP Tommy to get the part ordered. She said he'd call me back. Two days later, no phone call. I called and left another message. Two days after that, I still didn't get a phone call. When I called back a third time and spoke to the same receptionist seemed embarassed that he never called back, saying that he had been in the office all day and that he had multiple notes on his desk to call me back. Tommy never did pick up the phone to call me. He did however, finally e-mail me back saying that he'd make sure there was a new pump on the truck when my service technician arrived. But...when the service technician arrived he said he'd never heard anything about installing a new pump. By good luck (and no thanks to the main office) the technician happened to have a pump in his truck and he was able to install it on the spot. Since I'd worked with that particular technician before I decided to go ahead and get it installed, but it is the last piece of business I'll be doing with this company. After paying the expense of a yearly contract customer I didn't expect my calls and e-mails to be ignored. I think the service technicians at this company are very good but I was disappointed by the responsiveness of the management.

AC developed a major condensation leak on 100 degree plus day. I discovered the entire condensation pan and drain to be mainly rust. Called and received 4 bids all within $400. Arlington has been doing the maintenance on this system since it was installed over two decades prior, and we have been happy, so I took their bid which was next to lowest. They came on time, and the work proceeded as scheduled. When applying for the VA energy rebate, the stat requested paperwork, that was not given to me - a call to the office, and a voice mail left for the owner, at the suggestion of the person answering the phone, resulted in an e-mail 4 hours later with all the correct paperwork. Perhaps they could have given this paperwork up front, but the response to the request was more than expected, it was quick and painless, and to a customr that had already paid and been satisfied, not business to be gained. Good people, responsive and capable.
Description of Work: replaced 22 year old HVAC. Competitive bidding process, and since I have used them for maintenance, I chose them over the lowest bid which was only $100.00 less. On time and done right. Owner personally assisted with supplying needed documentation for energy efficiency rebates. Good people to work with.

I used Arlington Heating and Cooling on a service contract for a very old AC and furnace. While they were at my home to service the unit, I arranged for an estimate for a replacement. The problem was that I asked for basic system and they were pushing the top-of-the line unit, with a lot of techno-speak on why a basic system was inappropriate and fear-basis salesmanship implying that any company that would sell me a basic system was irresposnible. I contacted another comapny from Angie's List that had much better reviews than Arlington Heating and Cooling and a well-established, long-term reputation in the area. The gave me what I asked for, specifically, a name-brand, basic system. The difference in cost was $4,000. I don't mind paying for anything top-of-the line when top-of-the line is what I want. I would conclude by saying that I know Arlington Heating and Cooling sells basic systems, and I'm certain that the cost would have been comparable to the company I used. I understand you get get what you pay for. I'm just unclear about why they would blow a sale insisting on twisting my arm to sell me a Cadillac when what I asked for was a Hyundai.

I purchased a new furnace and air conditioner in March2009. At first I was quite impressed with Arlington Heat and Air. They arrived when they said they would, and I had no complaints about their installation. Too bad that was the last good thing I can say about them. In April 2010, I turned my air conditioner on. About a week after I started it, I came home and the unit was not working. They sent someone that evening. A compressor had gone out, and the Tech ADMITTED to me that the part was defective, and he was surprised they had installed it, knowing that it was defective. Although it was only 2-3 weeks past the warranty of 1 year, I was still charged $150. I had other minor problems but fast forward to April 2011. Again I turned the unit on to make sure it was working. It was emitting a high pitch whistle and was blowing. I turned it off and waited, thinking it had some dust or something. Turned the unit on again on Easter Sunday – and still getting the high pitch sound and little to no cool air. I knew if I called on the weekend they would charge me double for the service call. I called first thing Monday – they said as long as the unit was working – they would “try” to get someone out that day. I told her the unit was not working properly – it was blowing but not cooling. It is now Tuesday evening, and the technician just left. Why am I complaining? They finally identified the problem. ANOTHER DEFECTIVE PART – and this time they want $1100 to fix it! To add insult to injury, they charge me $95 for the service call AND I STILL HAVE THE HIGH PITCH WHISTLE SOUND! I have no choice but to have them order the part to fix the unit, because I do not have another $8000 for a new AC – the point is ARLINGTON HEAT AND AIR DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS – I KNOW PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD AIR CONDITIONERS LAST FOR 15-20 YEARS WITHOUT PROBLEMS – AND THIS ONE HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS – THEY WILL CHARGE YOU FOR DEFECTIVE PARTS AND THEN CHARGE YOU THE LABOR TO REPLACE THOSE DEFECTIVE PARTS We will noyt even go into missing 2 days of work for this.............................
Description of Work: Update to previous report: Arlington Heat and Air contacted me after my report was published, and we arrived at an agreeable arrnagement to correct my issues. Installation of furnace and air conditioner Aitr conditioner has malfunctioned 2 x in TWO YEARS due to defective parts - I have been continually charged parts and labor to replacer parts they KNEW were defective to begin with

Response from Arlington Heating & Air Conditioning Inc
Arlington Heating absolutely stands behind our products. We have been in business for over 67 years providing quality service at a great price. First, Arlington Heating offers a 1 year warranty on all labor for installations. As everyone knows, warranty is a real expense. If everything were covered outside of the warranty period, the cost would need to be made up somewhere else. Usually, it would be priced into the initial cost. Arlington Heating chose not to offer an extended warranty at purchase because we were trying to keep the cost down. It is very clear on our proposals that the installation comes with a 1 year warranty on labor and materials, and a 10 year warranty on parts. There are some aspects of this post that are simply inaccurate. First, Arlington Heating would never install something that we knew was bad. That doesn't make any sense. There must have been some form of misunderstanding because we would never do that. That is not an action of a company that has been around for 67 years. Secondly, the part that failed after the first year warranty was a condensate pump, not a compressor. The customer was not charged for any parts, only labor to have the part replaced as it was well out of the 1st year warranty. We are being accused of telling the customer we knew the part was bad from the beginning. There is not way for a service tech to know that a part was bad over a year ago. The most recent repair was the pressure switch. This is a very involved repair because we must recover and reclaim all of the refrigerant, replace the part, and then install all new refrigerant. It's approximately 4 hours of labor. Arlington Heating went ahead and covered this repair at no cost to the homeowner. So again, I don't know how we can be accused of not standing behind our products and installations. Here we are over 2 years after the installation was completed and we are covering repairs on a system which has been out of warranty for over a year. Arlington Heating follows every procedure by the book when performing installations. We don't take any short cuts. The fact is that manufacturers are under a lot of pressure to make equipment that meets all of the federal efficiency requirements while remaining cost effective for the end user. There is no mechanical system that is going to run forever without problems. On average, we find approximately a 4-6% failure rate on high quality systems and a higher rate on builders grade equipment. Unfortunately the member fell into this category. Arlington Heating can not afford to cover all repairs needed on these systems forever. We offer an extended coverage maintenance agreement so that customers can protect their investment and not worry about future repairs. Whether they purchase it or not is their decision. However, if they don't purchase it and we cover all repairs, we will be out of business pretty quickly. Arlington Heating continues to strive to offer the best customer experience while providing an affordable service. We would never deviate from our strong morals that were instilled 67 years ago when my grandfather founded this business. If you have any questions or concerns on this matter, please don't hesitate in calling our office.

The team showed up as scheduled, had all the tools and material needed to complete the job. They put down drop cloths over the entire area and ensured they stayed on the cloths. I called Arlington Heating and A/C based on Angie's List recommendations. Their contract for annual maintenance (2 visits per year) were on par with other companies, so made an appointment for two days later. David, the technician, was very professional. Checked various electrical connections within the gas furnace unit, and adjusted the amount (pressure ?) of gas flowing through unit. Diagnosed the "noisy fan" as a bad gas exhaust fan. He relayed the unit make and model to his company and told me the company would call me back with an estimate. About two hours later the company called with an estimate. I accepted it as a previous Google search gave me an idea of what a part of this general type would cost. They ordered the fan on a Friday, and when the part arrived (come from Tennessee?) called me on Tues to set up an appointment. Company made sure that my heat was still working, and would have come out immediately if need be. But, since I had heat I chose to pick a date later in the week that was more convenient. They even narrowed their arrival window down to two hours (!) and called me at work 30 min before. I was glad to see the same technician (David). He installed the new fan and all was good. Arlington Heating and A/C was very pleasant to deal with including the service representative who I worked with over the phone. I am sorry I can't recall her name.
Description of Work: Performed annual maintenance check on gas heating system (furnace). Replaced faulty gas exhaust fan (combustion gas inducer). The cost was the total of two visits. Half the annual maintenance fee plus the second visit for the repair.

Replacing a furnance is an all day job and the team was there and worked hard all day, taking time only to eat lunch. There were 3 to 4 men working hard all day. They were very clean and professional. The job was done completely to my satisfaction and while I did not enjoy spending all this money, I would happily recommend the Arlington Heating and Air Conditioning team to anyone needing their furnance replaced.
Description of Work: Arlington Heating and Air Conditioning inspects my first every year. Each year they have been warning me that furnance was old and needing to be replaced soon but they always said that it was safe and while they wouldn't gaurantee it would last, they felt I did not have to replace it at this time. Unfortunately, this year I was not so lucky and they gave me the bad news that it finally needed to be replaced. They gave them a through explaination of the problem and why it needed replacing as well as time table of how long the furnance would last. There was no pressure tactic and they even recommended the cheaper furnance as it better fit my families needs. They scheduled an appointment and they were there on time and ready to work.

I had had a service contract with Arlington Heating and Air Conditioning (AHAC), at two different residences, for most of the last 18 years. Most of the work they did for me was just regular, semi-annual check-ups, though they installed heat pumps for me twice, once in the mid-90s and again in 2003. I was satisfied with this work, though the price was on the high side of the industry standard. When we moved into a new home in July 2009, we had AHAC come to take a look at the system and, presumably, write us a service contract. However, after inspecting the system, the technician found fault with every single component, including a two-year-old heat pump and its corresponding air handler. He also said that another heat pump and a gas furnace were at the end of their service lives. He said that the system was so bad that he wouldn't write us a service contract. He recommended a complete overhaul of the entire system, at an estimated cost of $35,000! Having just paid a huge chunk of our life savings to obtain the house, which had passed a home inspection, I felt as if someone had kicked me in the stomach. However, after checking with a relative who is in the HVAC industry, and getting a second opinion from another firm, we learned that, while our system has some quirks and that some components may need to be replaced in the next few years, nothing needs to be done now. The system, as we have discovered over the past few months, is working fine. We did not tell the second contractor who inspected our system that AHAC had already looked at it. When he finished we asked him if any of the components needed replacing. He said "no," adding that it's quite likely that even the older parts of the system will work perfectly fine for many years to come. He seemed baffled when we told him that another contractor recommended replacing the entire system. I can't underestimate how upset we were when we first got the AHAC judgment that our entire HVAC system needed to be replaced. I was sick to my stomach for days worrying about the cost. It was such a relief to learn that the guy was way off base. My grade for AHAC would be much lower had I not had a satisfactory experience with the firm gonig back several years. But this one horrific experience undermined all that. I will not work with them again. Update 7/12/11: Two years later. We did in the end have to replace one of the two units, including the air handler. Total cost: about $7,000 -- which included a significant upgrade in SEER rating. But AHAC's estimate -- $35,000 -- was so far off the mark as to strain credulity. It's also worth noting that it took nearly a year for AHAC to respond to this posting. They never did respond to, or even acknowledge, a detailed and respectful letter we sent to the company detailing the above complaint.

Response from Arlington Heating & Air Conditioning Inc
Arlington Heating and Air Conditioning prides itself on our technician's expertise. In this situation, the existing system was totally mix matched. There was no way to properly check this system and provide the customer with an accurate operating report. The system was "functioning," but it was not a system that we felt comfortable putting under a maintenance agreement. Considering maintenance agreements are the "lifeblood" of this company, it would take extenuating circumstances for Arlington Heating to decline coverage. As far as the replacement options, our technician was discussing what was possible. The high end option was given as a starting point. This included doing everything to make this system the most efficient, most comfortable system possible. This was a simple case of mis-communication. We were truly sorry to lose this customer as we only had the best of intentions in helping them achieve long term comfort and efficiency in their new home.

I pay them on a yearly basis for the service contract. I have had the same man come out and do the maintenance work for years. Curtis has been working with us for so long that he is almost like family. He is very prompt. I call and make an appointment when they call and remind me that I am due. He always calls and lets me know when there is change in scheduling, however he is usually right on time. I like that they are always willing to come out on a weekend. I can always call with an emergency and they will come right out. He is fairly thorough when he comes out. We have recently run into some problems. When he came out to do the checks he would check the filter, instead of replacing it like he was supposed too.
Description of Work: Arlington Heating and Air Conditioning Inc. maintains and repairs my heating and air conditioning units. I have a service contract with them for the maintenance and repair work.
