Ace Deck & Fence

We had our fence installed in summer 2010 by Ace. They indicated at the time that it had a one year warranty on everything except the lock hardware (as it was purchased from a vendor). The gate worked out great and looked good, but when we were out of town, our neighbor had noted that it had unexpectedly swung open. After we investigated, the deadbolt on the lock would no longer stay engaged - and would retract with a little force. On a windy day, this caused the gate to swing open. Not sure what caused this - maybe a faulty lock by Schlage? Also, the gate had begun to shift slightly to the point that the two doors couldn't be closed on their own without a bit of force. We decided it was time to call Ace and have them make some repairs. I tried emailing the Ace employee (Sean) who originally did the work, but didn't hear back. I then followed up with a phone call and found out that the company had split into two - the number I called was now Ace Fence and Deck, Inc and I was advised that Ace Fence & Deck LLC had installed my fence, and was therefore the ones servicing the warranty. A little confusing, but after calling the number that I was given, I got Ali on the phone who came out the next day to look at the situation. Ali determined that the gate had indeed shifted, which he pointed out is common with rainy/wet winter weather after an install. He adjusted the gate on the spot so that it was put back to its correct position. He came back the next day with a new lock and installed that as well - at no cost, despite the fact that it was originally stated it wouldn't be covered under warranty. Bottom line is that Ali responded quickly, showed up on time, and made the slight repairs on the gate that it needed to keep functioning correctly. We get tons of compliments form neighbors on the gate's look and robustness - and we recommend Ace to all of them. Be aware that there are two separate businesses with nearly identical names - Ace Fence & Deck LLC is the one that I'm reviewing and recommending here!

From the time AJ arrived to give us an estimate to the time he finished our second project he was a consummate professional. His work is outstanding. He was polite, knowledgable and extremely efficient. He and his team arrived when they said they would and left our yard immaculate when he left. The plants that he disrupted in building our fence were carefully preserved so that they could be transplanted. AJ looked at the idea sheets that I had, gave suggestions and altered designs as I wished. He even came back to readjust our gate after the wood had cured. He paid attention to the crown on every board, made custom cuts, used the best hardware and plumbed and leveled everything just as he should. He was knowledgable of local code and building techniques. AJ is outstanding in every aspect, and I highly recommend his work!

My fence, installed by a locally advertised, major fence company (you know who I mean - they also advertise on tv and in the Post that they do pavers, windows, sunrooms, driveways) was installed approximately 18 years ago. I was satisfied at the time, and in the duration that followed until I noticed one side of the yard fence was leaning, dramatically. Naturally, I called them back to install a replacement for that side. That was done to my satisfaction at a reasonable price. However, when my back fence fell down during a horrific wind storm, I went out to survey the situation. I found that the 4x4 posts supporting the fence were installed in the natural dirt with no concrete. When I asked their estimator for this company on the day of the current visit why they didn't put the posts in concrete, he replied that they did. I showed him the existing posts, and their vulnerability and said they were in dirt. In addition, the invoice for the replacement of the side fence stated that they would be "set in 30" of earth". He responded "Oh, sorry". Right then I realized I did not have a positive attitude about this company that he would blow me off so arrogantly. The representative from Ace Deck and Fence LLC gave me a comprehensive scope of work to replace the 61" of fence recenly blown down. And his estimate was, essentially, one-half the price of the other company. And each post was installed in 60 pounds of concrete. The installation was done in 4 hours. They started at 7:00 AM and were done before 10:30. I promptly received a call from Aces co-owner to inquire about my satisfaction of the completed job. I told him I was impressed by the work crew, the speed in which it was completed and the overall excellent quality of the job.and detail to workmanship demonstrated by Ace.

Ace Deck & Fence is really great at fencing. They came by and assessed the problems with both of our gates. Ali emailed me the sales order form and let me know that it would be an easy one day job for $175 including materials. They came out two days later and fixed both gates. They have been working excellent since then so we are very happy. Thanks for the great service, Ali!

The job went well. They were pretty easy to work with. They took measurements and gave a free estimate. They dropped off the materials and came to do the work. I called them about a couple of loose boards, and they came out to fix them. We are pleased with the work.

Ace was the only fencing company that returned my phone call to provide the estimate that my insurance company required. Their estimate was less than what I had heard from colleagues who had similar work done by other companies. The work was done promptly and the team was very accomodating to some specific requests from my neighbor. I have recommended Ace to other people who have been very happy with their work and I plan to hire them again for some additional repairs I need to have done on other parts of my fence.

The carpenters did a superb job of accommodating a slight slope (of the yard) into their design, such that the latticework lines up true and uniform despite the odd angles involved. The crew's work was excellent throughout -- they showed up on time, worked carefully but expeditiously, and produced a handsome, well-wrought fence that enhances the landscape. I couldn't be happier with the end result (or with the process -- everyone involved was a consummate professional, and it shows in their work!)

We did not do the work because it ended up costing more than we were hoping because it turned out that we were going to the historic district. They were very helpful and great with the work, but at this point we can?t afford the additional permit. They did the estimate for free. We liked that they were very responsive and they came out when they said they would. The guy was very honest and upfront about everything. Ultimately when he did the research on what sort of permit we would need for and what sort of district we were in and he provided that and an updated quote. Hopefully if we end up actually doing this project when we save enough money, we would most likely use them. We would recommend that they were responsive and honest. They also helped give me better thought about what we could with the deck, which was very helpful.

They did a good job. I spent $4000 on that work. They were pretty good overall.

They took a while to get their act together but finally did a good job.

We thought they seemed like a very legitimate company, they gave us the name of a good structural engineer. However, the quote was extremely high. We wouldn't consider them in the future simply due to the estimate which seemed 3 times higher than it should have been.

Their price was the highest of 3 bids. He was responsive, but not particularly promptly. He only came out that one time and came at the time we agreed.

Their sales person came and gave a quote.When I had questions, I ended up talking directly to Ali, one of the owners. Our deck is in 2 layers so it is complex. He did a good plan and delivered well on it. Due to snowstorms, the work had to be stopped at times but they always came back once things were better and got it done quickly. One of the boards came loose in summer. I called them up and they came and fixed the nail. Good quality. Fair price. And Ali came regularly to oversee the project.

Work went well. Workers arrived on time and completed everything in one day. Removed old gates and disposed of wood. Experienced no problems.

They were prompt with the quote, gave me a reasonable price, worked to fit into my schedule and completed the fence in two days. The craftsmen were very polite and accommodating. My only suggestion for using them in the future is to pay by check, not credit card, as they have a high credit card fee.

Great until we questioned the high price! At least Ace could have said "sorry, we cannot do it for less". That would have been the professional way to handle it.

I called Ace Deck and Fences and gave them my contact information and was told someone would get back to me later that day. No one EVER got back to me. Now they are sending me SPAM to my email address!

After many misteps with a highly rated fence company I found on Angie's List, I decided to seek out another contractor. I contacted Ace Deck and Fence on Oct. 29th, work began on Nov. 2nd. and on Nov. 3rd I have a new fence built completely to my specifications and exactly on budget! I think that says it all! Jeff, rep for Ace, said I would be 100% satisfied and I am. Even though I added items and changed things the price never changed! The proposal from Ace was well written, all inclusive and easy to understand. Five workers came out the first day and they worked until late in the evening to remove the old fence and install the new posts ! They all worked continuously, quietly. and most of all efficiently. They only stopped to ask me a question or to verify the fence design such as the smooth side of the fence facing outward. They also asked about how I would like the gate to swing. These are things I just took for granted! They didn't and made sure I had exactly what I wanted! They constantly picked up leaving the work area clean and safe for our Great Dane! I was so pleased at how quiet they were. The noise generated by the tools they used was at an absolute minimum. It is among my all time best experiences ever with a contractor!

I set up an appointment with them for the estimate, but they never showed. They didn't call to say they were unable to make the appointment either.

Jeff McCormick (owner) came to do the initial estimate. The quote was significantly less than other vendors, and he was willing to play with design changes. They showed up early. This was a mis-communication, but I cannot complain as it was a week earlier than expected. The deck build proceeded very quickly. The longest delay was waiting for inspections. My biggest complaint was the lack of follow-through at the very end. I had to double-check with Arlington County to confirm on what inspections were required! Then, I had to follow-up with Ace to have them schedule the final inspection! Finally, the quality of the work for a couple of minor requests were not of the same high quality as the rest of the deck. All in all, the deck looks great and was done within my expectations. However, the last 15% of work was a hassle. (Hence, the C in professionalism.) I felt like Ace really dropped the ball in scheduling the final inspection and doing the last bit of finish work. I'd recommend renegotiating the payment schedule to 50-25-25 so as to have greater leverage and ensure they stay focused on the close out of the project. Next time, I will look at Ace while still do some shopping around. They are definitely a strong contender and performed well. However, they still need to be closely managed to ensure your interests are best served.

The job went very well. They demolished front porch and back deck and hauled away the trash. They were punctual every morning and did a real nice job on the front steps (which had been three and increased to four). They also framed the latticework nicely on the front porch and gave it some extra support. They put the front posts in cement to keep them from sagging in the future. On the back deck they had to work around an air conditioner by supporting it and replacing the flooring under it. They also did a good job putting in supports on the back deck for the posts. All garbage was hauled away at the completion of the job. They also painted the front columns on the porch which we had not expected but was much appreciated.

They forklifted fence material in on 8/6/2010. On 8/7/2010 they rang my doorbell at 7:00 am to start the work. They were finished by 10:15 am. I gave them surveyed plans for the fence that they followed very well. The whole experience was excellent.

Once our HOA gave it's okay to the project, ACE Deck & Fence contacted Miss Utility (for underground lines) and obtained the necessary county building permits. The project was completed quickly. The workmen, besides being very skilled, were polite, always on time, and cleaned up the site beautifully once the project was completed.

Materials were delivered on schedule, work began on schedule. Installers proved themselves master carpenters, precisely aligning the latticework sheets where they meet at the mid-level horizontal support beam, even though much of the fence was on a slight slope (and so made the alignments not quite square). However, doing this required more time than initially estimated, but by only one workday. Overall effect is finished and very pleasing, just what I wanted. Installers also were thorough and prompt in collecting and removing construction debris. And the project manager recommended a contractor who did a superb job of staining the raw wood to just the color I needed, at a quite reasonable price and with no delay. I'd recommend Ace Deck & Fence to anyone because of their high quality work, attention to detail, and excellent customer service. Truly, one of the best experiences I've ever had with a contractor.
