Richard's Tree Service

Richards tree service came and did a $500 tree trimming job and I know have $1200 in damages to my backyard. On Nov 28th. 2020 “Richard Tree Service” came to my house to trim a tree in the backyard. They trimmed the tree with a fence and raised bed directly under the tree branches. Large branches were not cut in small chunks, but large heavy branches were cut and fell 20+ feet. While the branches were falling on the fence, a post in the center of the fence broke as well as the raised bed. The fence is now leaning because of the broken post. I reached out to Richards Tree Service many times from Nov 29th, through Dec 9th and they mostly avoided my calls at that time. After Dec 9th they reached out and said they will not do anything to mitigate this issue. The fence needs to be repaired. They say they will not repair anything. I got a quote for the repair and its over $1200 because there is a nice raise bed also attached to the post. They have since said that the post has mold and was compromised before they trimmed. All the other posts are not compromised and have no mold, and it is not easy to see the raised bed wood. I also don’t agree that the broken post is moldy, its broken. They want me to pay the $1200 to have someone repair the fence and bed. They also stated they wanted to be there when I have MY fence repair person come pay… I don’t have $1200 to dish out just for them to later say “still not paying”. They have insurance but refuse to use it. I have tried contacting the insurance information but their provider never responds. Also, even with all of this happening I tried to pay my bill. Apparently to pay they wanted me to take down someone’s wife’s phone number to give her my credit card. I get it that this is a small business person who may be just contracted through Richards tree service, but its still unprofessional. I do not feel comfortable giving someone’s wife my credit card and will be trying to pay a different way. I also had someone else come out to look at their job. They left cut branches just sticking out. I am not sure why they didn’t cut from the base of other branches or the trunk. I am pretty sure those random branches will just get decay and potentially hurt the tree. The job does not look good, but hey the leaves are gone I guess? I have limited options to proceed, I cannot pay the $1200 for the repairs and Richards Tree Service says they won’t do anything on their side. 1. They should have trimmed the branches in smaller chunks. Not large ones that would drop on the fence. Make sure you have a video of their job if you go with them, and tell them to make smaller cuts. 2. They should use their insurance, if the insurance finds that my backyard is all moldy (which I do not see) then they won’t have to pay for it, this is why you have insurance. 3. They should improve their billing solution. Its 2020 and there are safer ways to pay online with proof of receipts.

We had Richard's come out for some estimates and tree trimming services. They were excellent - showed up on time for both appointments. During the day of our service, they showed up with a full contingent of people and worked quickly and efficiently. They cleaned up prior to leaving and we were extremely happy with their service. We plan to have them come back out again in the spring for additional work.

Richard and his crew of 10 were here for 2 days and did an amazing job. We needed a number of potential house crushers removed from our backyard. We also wanted to tidy up the forest where there were piles of old tree trunks, garden litter, and branches. The access to the backyard is tight. I appreciated that they figured out how to do it without heavy machinery rolling back there. They did a great job and were very professional - I liked the office, the estimator, and the crew. They cleaned up after themselves too. I've used them for smaller jobs as well and would use them again. They are very professional and have competitive prices. Also, I have been having issues with disease and bugs in certain plants, and one of the foreman took the time to explain what I could do to work on these issues. He also explained what the company could do but not in a pushy way.

Couldn't be more pleased. Fast, great job, efficient, pleasant, cleaned up beautifully. With tree leaning on house, holes in the roof and rain threatening, we called at 2pm and asked them to come immediately. By 6pm, four hours later, they were done and gone! I would definitely recommend Richard's to anyone.

The Richard's Tree Service team was excellent. Everyone I spoke to, from scheduling, to quote, to removal were all professionals and easy to work with. All elements of the service were timely and as promised. I highly recommend RTS.

Richard’s has a great team of workers, the price is very competitive, and they did an excellent job in a very efficient manner. My only complaint — the cleanup was subpar. I plan to use this company again in the not to distant future.

Rock and Richard were great to work with. Rock had valuable knowledge of creating an estimate for the insurance company which needed to be more detailed than normal. They sent out a large crew which did the job in half the time. All crew members were great. You definitely get the feel of a family owned business with the great customer service.

They showed up on time and did an excellent job as usual. I asked them to cut the trunk into 1 1/2 foot pieces for my next door neighbor's fire place and put them in his backyard. I have used Richard's several times and highly recommend them.

Estimate was quick and competitively priced, estimator listened to my request and provided some good information and tips. Scheduling was smooth and a call was provided to confirm two days ahead of the work. Team arrived early in the time window provided, friendly and informative, they asked questions and then got to work. Work was completed quickly and professionally, all debris was removed, they raked my lawn and cleaned the sidewalks. As requested all wood and debris was removed and the stump was cut low. I would definitely recommend them, they very were knowledgeable about my trees and had great recommendations, I'll definitely use them next year for some pruning in the back yard.

Tremendous service from start to finish. A crew was at my house today to work on 3 trees and did a fantastic job - they did exactly what I wanted, they worked quickly but did a very good job, and the site was cleaned up well. Josh, who did the estimate, was terrific. He came back out after my initial estimate to price removing another branch when my neighbors expressed interest. I really appreciate the extra trip. I believe they will use Richard's when their tree, which is dying, needs to be removed. Finally, the office staff has been incredible. Very responsive and managed to squeeze me into a tight schedule in order to accommodate my need to get new sod installed next week. I had worked with the same service for 6 years, but they've suddenly become unresponsive and difficult to schedule for anything. I'm happy to replace them with Richard's and will let my neighbors know as well. I was able to apply an Angie's List coupon which made the price very reasonable, but going forward even without a discount I found their prices competitive.

Overall it turned out okay but for my bradford pear tree, I was not pleased with it.

Richard's Tree Service was excellent and did a very professional job. I highly recommend their service. They came out and gave me a very fair quote. On the desired date of service, they arrived on time with a big crew of men (8) and professional equipment to get the job completed. They climbed the trees and used ladders and chain saws to cut the branches where desired, dragged and cut up the debris and fed it all into a huge mulcher machine in their truck. They were very expert at removing the large tree branches and dead tree, without harming the power lines, fence, buildings and sheds, which was very important. Removed all debris, used leaf blowers and left everything looking great. They honored the 20% discount coupon offered through Angie's List. Will definitely use them again in the future!

They were great to work with - very friendly and professional. They were a little slow to return initial phone call, but well worth the wait. I would definitely hire them again.

The crew arrived on time and the work was completed quickly. They cleaned up and removed all the debris. I would hire again.

The company showed up when expected and were very responsive to my concerns. e.g., I had a newly-laid tile patio which they had to cross numerous times as part of their work. Once I pointed that out, they covered the patio with plywood. They did not mind my supervision of the trimming of the hemlock, for which I had very specific ideas. I plan to hire them again for other work in the fall. Their pricing was about half of what another highly-rated local company had estimated.

Richard's was the only tree company willing to take on the project. They dealt with a lot of red tape and delays caused by Dominion Power in order to begin the project. Removal of the tree took several days and required some careful work to avoid damaging the utility wires or the houses and yards where the tree was located. They did a terrific job and charged exactly what they estimated. The main tree trunk was indeed hollow from roots to about 5 feet up the trunk. Their ability to remove the tree saved both us and our neighbors from great potential expense when a storm would have eventually toppled the tree.

Timely estimate, but scheduling work took multiple calls. Did great job on fallen tree and stump, but did not leave wood, and did not trim damaged parts of second tree.

Work was handled professionally and without problems.

"Rock" came out first with a Free estimate, then about 2 weeks later (busy season) the work was done. I am completely satisfied and highly recommend this company.

The job is well executed and cleaned up afterwards. One minor damage was properly compensated.

I had contacted several other tree services and either they never contacted me back or took a long time. I was contacted within 1-2 days by Richard's Tree Service and set up a consultation appointment for the next day. The person who came out was very personable and gave honest assessments about what he felt each tree needed. When my husband felt that more trimming needed to be done after the initial job (mainly because there was miscommunication between he and I on how much trimming there should be), they came out again quickly and finished the job to my husband's satisfaction. Their rates were fair and we would absolutely use them again.
