Erwan is amazing. I was referred to him through my real estate agent. He was very responsive and flexible. I just purchased my first condo and had this crazy ideas of converting the large one bedroom into a one bedroom with study. Erwan worked with my schedule and tight timeline to complete the work in one week, even though he was already tightly booked and scheduled for a family vacation out of the country. As a new home owner, I greatly appreciated the payment options. Be warned though that Erwan is a perfectionist and he will spend the necessary amount of time to make sure every measurement is absolutely perfect. He hired additional help for the painting of my walls and the sealing and painting of popcorn ceiling. However, because he is also a contractor there was no need for me to get involved with that aspect of the project. He was there everyday and was able to handle issues with my condo board and building manager without me having to take any time away from work. He is extremely neat and took time at the end of everyday to clean up the construction area and dispose of debris. I felt very secure in his ability to take care of any issue. Even when I had a last minute (the night before) change of heart about my wall color, he was there on the phone with me late at night counseling me through my color choices and decorating decisions. He was extremely flexible and was very easy to work with. I had such a great experience that I have recommended him to my friends for their own home projects. I even recommended him to my former landlord who hired Erwan to repair my apartment after I moved in to my new condo. I continue to recommend him to my friends for their home projects, large and small. I would recommend him to anyone not only for his high quality of service and reasonable price/payment schedule, but also because he is friendly and extremely easy to work with. He is honest and if there is anything he can't do (which I highly doubt) he will tell you and recommend other options.
Description of Work: He did great work converting my large one bedroom condo into a one bedroom with study: created a doorway/entrance (5 ft wide), built an interior wall, installed a pocket door, move the main bedroom entrance (standard door frame), and closed off/built in the original entrance, sealed popcorn ceilings, sealed cracks, and painted all walls and ceilings. He offered consistent advice and came in below market value for high quality service.

Erwan is an artist. He has an eye for details and a very sophisticated contemporary design. He is meticulous with his work to the smaller detail. He aways take only one client at the time so he never over books. He suggests what to do but listen and adopted to my ideas and the work was quite complicated. He is always on time with work and planning he estimates, which I appreciated as Manager my self.He respects your time and his time. He is excellent as following up with client to the smaller detail, answering even some of my trivial or repetitive questions with patience. Clearly a person who loves his job and is pleasure to work with.

Erwan turned out to be a major disappointment. Things started very well. He was recommended to me by my realtor, was very friendly and responsive, and French like me (I thought it'd be convenient) so I didn't really looked at the competition, which happened to be a big mistake. I discussed the project with him and he took the time to listen to me and offer advice. He was also ready to start right away and was in my budget so I decided to hire him. The first red flag was when I asked for a contract. He looked a bit surprised and wrote a few lines on a piece of paper. I asked him to write down all the things we discussed but he kept saying that of course it was included in his price and didn't write it down. He was very nice and engaged and excited about the project so I didn't think too much of it (it was my first time doing work on my condo). Of course, in the end, he didn't do all the things he was supposed to do and refused to deduct them from the original amount: he did not open up the wall like we had discussed, did not build the linen closet, and did not fix the parquet. And he charged me for extras (paint that was supposed to be included, linoleum that I didn't want, etc). For the parquet, he was supposed to take some existing pieces from a floor that was going to be replaced by tile to put them in the new entryway. On the last day, he told me there was glue on the parquet pieces (shouldn't have been a surprise) so he couldn't re-use them. Instead he put some linoleum, which after a few weeks was all pierced by screws he had put underneath. When I showed it to a different contractor who did my bathroom, he was astonished by how badly it looked and told me it wasn't a problem to re-use the old parquet and it only took him a couple hours to do it. Good thing I didn't listen to Erwan and saved the pieces even though there was glue on them. I think Erwan didn't know how to do it or didn't want to do it and chose to tell me that it couldn't be done instead. Similarly, I wanted to bring a wall down and Erwan told me that it wasn't possible because it was structural. All the contractors I have seen since then have told me it wasn't a structural wall and it has been taken down. It was a big cement wall so Erwan may have preferred to tell me it was structural so he didn't have to deal with it or because he didn't know how. Another issue I had with him was that he never let me know when he was coming over, even though I had told him I wanted to catch-up with him once a day. He said he didn't care and didn't have to tell me about his schedule. One day he didn't show up because he went to scout for new projects and didn't bother to tell me. I waited for him all morning. And worse, one day I asked him to come at a specific time and he charged me a $150 penalty for it! Lastly, the work he did was just ok. One wall is not straight and there's a huge gap underneath the doors he installed. He also always went for the cheapest materials, outlets, etc... Definitely not a contractor that I would not recommend.

Response from French Accent
Dear [removed member name], I wish you didn’t wait a whole year for your review because you missed some points. You hired me to remodel your hall closet and prepare the plumbing for your future vanity. Build a linen closet, partition walls, build a new closet, open the wall in open, install 2 news door + a bi-fold for the closet. Furthermore, 1. All the scope was written on a contractor proposal form and priced for $ 4000 with materials and you decided to take care of the painting part. 2. During the construction I offered you to do the paint for an extra of $ 300 + the paint. You accept it. 3. The parquet issue showed-up after I took down the walls. For the esthetic purpose and to keep your budget on tracks, I advised you to install linoleum as temporary solution on top of the parquet. This will buy time to redo the bathroom and the floor in the future, as you planned. You agreed and choice of linoleum was send to you via pictures. 4. Taking down a wall is a simple task. To this day, I consider your big cement wall, as a structural wall and only a Building engineer’s report will change my opinion. I glad you find a contractor who put his liability for this. 5. Time issue. The job was complete on time. I usually start around 9.30 depending the traffic or materials pick-up. I came everyday excepted one because the snowstorm. 6. The penalty of $ 150 was requested since you made a call less than 24 hours notice risking that the project timeline will be jeopardy. I explained, you understood and agreed. However, at the end you refused to pay it. 7. You validated all the materials provided and all the scope on the proposal was completed. Finally, you forgot that I installed extra outlet, the linoleum and paint your living room wall, without any extra charges. I wish you luck with your condo. Erwan Dapoigny.

I have nothing but good things to say about Erwan Dapoigny. He's comfortable and easy to deal with. You know that he'll get the job done and get them right on time.
Description of Work: He did interior painting, touch-up, drywall, screen repair and did a lot of punch list items.
Erwan is absolutely amazing. After calling 5 handymen on this list and having none of them call me back, I found Erwan's number from a local listserve I am on. I called him, he immediately responded. He told me how he works in depth and we discussed the projects. He came to my house for a look and to make an estimate THAT SAME DAY. We scheduled time for him to come back and do the work. He was prompt, clean, EXTREMELY efficient. He was open to fixing many other small issues around the house and gave out free advise all along the way - which was super useful and helpful. He gave us free estimates for other jobs we might do around the house. I would recommend him without doubt to anyone and will definitely use him again.
Description of Work: Erwan made custom shelves in our tiny closet and understood how we needed to really maximize the space.
