My experience with Fairfax Electric was fantastic from start to finish. Even before the installation, all of my questions were answered immediately with courtesy and care. The costs for my new natural gas hot water heater and its installation were fair, their appointment was super fast, and I can't say enough about the installation crew. Ken and Aaron were the most courteous and knowledgeable crew imaginable and they did a fabulous job with the installation and providing important operational information afterward. I will highly recommend FEPG to anyone needing their services. - JL

Everyone was friendly at Fairfax Electric Plumbing and Gas, from the office setting up the appointment to the technicians who installed our water heater. They answered all of our questions, and did not try to up sell once they got there. Fantastic job, and we will use them again. They were much cheaper than the other estimates we had.

I just had an electric 80 gal Rheem Hybrid water heater installed in my basement by FEPG, replacing my 20+ year old Rheem heater. The whole team from the, office to the installers, are VERY knowledgeable about the products and services. Most importantly their customer service and follow-up are the best I’ve encountered with any plumbing organization. They specialize in water heater installations, and you can purchase your heater from FEPG. They will deliver, install your new heater and remove your old heater. My install only took about 2.5 hours, start to finish. Finally, I had obtained estimates from full service local Plumbing companies and with FEPG I saved up to 50% in the purchase and installation of the exact heater.
Description of Work: Replace and Install water heater. I purchased my water heater seperaltely but it can be purchased from FEPG. Cost of installation was $1,495, this price included a 5.5 gallon expansion tank, water pan, new shutoff valve and copper piping.

Brand new water heater keeps shutting down and installation company is unresponsive Fairfax Electric, Plumbing, & Gas (FEPG) installed a new gas hot water heater in my home on January 13, 2022. Soon after that the pilot light went out and would not stay lit. They finally came out and replaced a bunch of parts and it worked for a few more months before breaking down again. They left soot all over my basement. They were supposed to come out today to fix the hot water heater again, but did not show up and failed to call. No one will return my calls or emails. Brand new product has broken down twice leaving a family of five without hot water for weeks and company will not correct the issue. I think I am going to have to hire someone else and take legal action against FEPG. I see many of you have had similar issues - perhaps a class action law suit will get this company’s attention. Bringing these issues to Home Depot’s attention so they will terminate their relationship with FEPG and their customers will stop being victimized.

Unfortunately the manufacturer had an issue with their 75 gallon heater. They didn’t notify us on a timely basis and didn’t have replacement parts available. Home Depot whom this install was performed through finally approved replacement. Im sorry we were not able to communicate this at the time of the issue.

I rarely write reviews, at least for things that aren't products, but my experience with Fairfax Electric Plumbing & Gas has been great. I first used them for my parents water heater, then my in-laws, then my own home. Each time they quickly provide a quote with several options and are available the next business day for installation. On my most recent install, the tech came out on time but noticed the new water heater was slightly too tall to properly vent given my utility room layout. He showed me the issue and explained it in terms I could understand. Without me lifting a finger, that same day I had a new quote in my inbox for the new part (was essentially same size/cost) and once again scheduled for the next day! Install went smooth, tech's were professional, communication was excellent. Why can't everyone do this? Thank you! Definitely keeping you all on speed dial for any needs. -Ed

If I could rate them a C-, I would. I had a gas hot water heater replaced. It was installed fairly quickly, and the front office was very professional and easy to work with. I am also pleased that the safety inspection in Fairfax County was included with the transaction. The problem was the "up-sell". The lead installer was not going to install the heater because he said the venting needed to be 4 inch instead of 3 inch, and that it needed to be an insulated duct -- due to "code". He asserted that the inspectors were very picky. I gave him a hard time because I had been taking cold showers in the middle of a pandemic for a few days. I said it had been that way for 30 years. So he said he'd install the heater anyway, but that I should get the venting before inspection. Ah, but his company does not do the venting installation. I called the company he recommended (MRStride) 3 times until they finally got back to me. In the meantime, I talked to other contractors. One (SSI Service Specialties) did not seem certain it was necessary, but did not tell me it wasn't. Another (Mixing Bowl Contracting) told me it was not necessary. MRStride finally showed up and quoted me $700-1200, depending on a per hour labor scale. (BTW, the water heater installation was $1500.) I went ahead and got the inspection from Fairfax County without doing the venting upgrade. It passed. The inspector said the venting recommendation was "an up-sell". So, I'm happy to have hot water, and to have avoided a snake oil sale, but irritated about the time and energy it cost me for something completely unnecessary. Buyer beware.

I have reviewed the pictures and I think I know what the issue is and why its possible your county inspector missed the potential problem. Its certainly harder with the county performing face time inspections. The International Plumbing code requires the venting from the water heater to maintain a 6" clearance to anything combustible. It appears that the area of concern is tucked behind the furnace duct work and at that spot it is less than the required distance at that point. I'm sorry the exact spot wasn't pointed out to you so that you could have made sure the inspector saw it. At this point I would encourage you to verify that the venting at that point is up to code. If you would like to discuss further please contact me and I would be happy to go over our concerns with you.

Bought a gas water heater thru Home Depot and Fairfax Electric called to schedule the installation. The price was reasonable but the two individuals they sent to do the install were unsatisfactory. The lead guy immediately said he would have to leave because the exhaust pipe was 3 inches instead of 4 inches and he would not wait for me to enlarge the chimney opening or just do it himself. I had waited over 3 hours for these guys to arrive (they were late) so this seemed to be unreasonable. In addition he refused to discuss the situation and immediately left the house and sat in his truck telling the office that the chimney did not meet code. The office said they didnt know and could not check the chimney so I would need another company to certify the chimney. I had another company install a water heater the next day without any problems. Stay away from this company; they are not a reliable installer for Home Depot. I believe the installer did not want to work that day and came up with any excuse just to leave. Very unprofessional.

While it is true that we grew concerned when he saw your current water heater venting and knew that it was done incorrectly and presented a life safety issue. Unfortunately, my company does not have the licenses to verify the interior dimensions of the chimney to insure that it was small enough to vent a single appliance. Not only could we not make that determination we could not break into the chimney correctly and install the new required masonry crock. Ultimately, your home presented in our opinion a life safety issue that we advised you to remedy before we could install the water heater safely and to code and in order to protect the health of you and your family.

I was a little hesitant to contract with Fairfax Electric after learning about their Home Depot affiliation. But they offered the best combination of price and value. Installation went smoothly. Only out-of-spec addition was the installation of a required shut-off valve near the base of the water heater.

In my area Home Depot uses Fairfax Electric, Plumbing & Gas to do their hot water heater installations. The estimate for just the installation is $808. The catch here is where things tend to go 'South.' I selected at Home Depot's direction a different model Rheem heater than suggested by Fairfax. This modification came at an additional cost to me the customer. Fairfax will not pickup, ship or deliver any heater other than the one they suggested in their proposal. That forced me to arrange my owner separate delivery arrangements at my expense. To make matters even worse Fairfax would not warranty the heater of my choice, even though I purchased the Rheem heater from Home Depot. When I finally made arrangements with Fairfax to install, they sent me a confirmation for a day and time. They were a no show. When I called to find out what happened, they said, I was not scheduled for the installation. They were friendly and apologetic but it was frustrating, time consuming and I lost half a day's pay for nothing. They offered to install over the weekend but that was no help to me. The damage was already done. It seems this company is more concerned about themselves than the customer. It has to be their way or the highway. Had I known this about this installer, I would not have bought the heater from Home Depot. Other contractors want the whole job. They want to sell you their hot water heater and do the installation, more money and profit for them. Now, I have a heater sitting in my driveway. This leaves me no choice but to return it to Home Depot, which will probably come at an additional cost to me once again for a shipping and restocking fee. You've been warned. Buyer beware. UPDATE AS OF 12.04.2019L Attention Consumers: You'll notice in their response to my justified complaint, how Fairfax Electric, Plumbing & Gas liked to 'twist the details' in their favor. 1) They make no response to the fact that they were a 'no show' on their own installation scheduled date with an advanced confirmation from them to do the work on a given day during a given time period. That was their mistake with no real apology or consideration offered to me for my wasted time and losing 1/2 day of pay waiting on them. 2) They say they made numerous attempts to contact me to install the heater but failed to say why that was necessary in the first place, as I've indicated. This is just business as usual for them...beware! 3) Then they imply my call to them was to reschedule installation, when the call was actually to find out why no one showed up at the designated date and time, not to reschedule. It was too late for that. 4) The 'reputation on the street' that I hear from other plumbing contractors is "Be careful" who does the installation, because they can take a good hot water heater brand and give the customer a lifetime of headaches and unnecessary service repairs do to poor service installation. 5) As a consumer, you might want to keep that in mind, should you make a hot water purchase from Home Depot, get someone else to do the installation.

Thank you for your review. Just a few notes in response to your review 1) We offered to complete the install still on the same day and which point you said you were actually calling to reschedule the installation. 2) It is true that we do not pick up water heaters from Home Depot as that is not home the Home Depot program works. 3) The warranty is provided by the manufacturer not by us. Fairfax Electric, Plumbing & Gas warranties our workmanship for 1 year. 4) We reached out to you you on multiple times to offer to reschedule this installation and to provide a discount for your inconvenience.

Terrible company! I cant believe they get these good reviews. If you have a spiral stair case they will DECLINE the job. So don't bother! I flew in from Chicago to get this and a few other things done at a condo I recently purchased. I scheduled an appointment with them and let them know them know the unit was in the loft area up a spiral stair case. They showed up and said they did not have the right equipment and would be back tomorrow. I then received a call declining the job! I told the person on the phone if they cared customer service the owner would call. NO CALL BACK! We then called Home Depot to get one and they said they use these guys as well and they have done spiral stair cases in the past. VERY UPSET and now I won't have a hot water tank before I go back to Chicago.

I am sorry you were upset with this decision. Our policy is to decline jobs in home where the access is via a spiral staircase. I apologize for that error, as we don't encounter this situation very often. You stairs were especially difficult as they were hard wood meaning and as such we couldn't put a drop cloth to protect them. Further complicating the situation were that you steps were especially narrow to get 2 men and the water heater up to your 2nd floor.

A mess from start to finish, and in the end the company did not install a new water heater. I used Angie’s List to request a quote, and heard back from the company within a day, giving what I thought was a reasonable quote, about $700 less than the other quotes I had gotten. As the company had received an overall “A” rating on Angie’s List, I decided to go with them. That is when the problems started. Although I had sent a couple of photos with the quote request, they said they needed some additional ones. I sent them. Then they said they required a certain set of measurements, and the person telling me that said she would not be in the next day, but anyone in the office could continue. The next day received an email from a different person asking if I was still interested in the job. I called to explain I had already been dealing with someone. The person I spoke with seemed confused and said I needed to resend the photos and measurements to a different person. I did this. After a couple of days hearing nothing, I called to check the status, and the same confused person answered the phone again, left me on hold for 5-10 minutes, then Cramer back on the line and said I needed yet another set of measurements, for different things. I sent the measurements. Again hearing nothing for a day or two, I called and said were they interested in doing the job or not. I was assured they were, and they set up an installation date. I said I thought they would send someone to verify setup, access, and measurements, but they said no, they would do that the same day of the installation. Meanwhile, their original work estimate quote was changed to be almost exactly the same as the others I had received. (“Additional work required”.) Though I understand additional work was needed, it seems to me they deliberately low-balled the original estimate to get the call-back. The company also requires the customer to call them “before the day of installation” to “confirm installation and give payment information”. (No, they do not do like every other company does and actually CALL YOU to confirm installation.) I called the day before, and yes you guessed it got the same confused person. I said I was calling to confirm installation, he said “OK!” I asked if that was all I needed to do, and he said “Yep!” Within a couple of hours I received VM messages and emails explaining I needed to give them my payment information prior to installation. I called back the next day and did so. On the day of installation, per the company’s instructions, I called in the morning to find out the time frame for the techs to arrive. I was told I was the third job for the day, and likely it would be early afternoon. I explained I had an appointment at 6 PM, and was told not to worry, the techs would be there and gone long before that. Yes, you guessed it, there were “unforeseen complications” with one of the earlier jobs and the techs would not arrive until “probably 4 or after”. I reminded them of my 6 PM appointment, and they said likely they would not be gone in time for me to make it. We thus arranged for me to be the first job the following day. The techs arrived the following morning and proceeded to do the exact same measurements I had done previously, and to take pictures of the same areas I had previously sent photos of. I began to get worried when the tech immediately got on the phone with the company. Finally he explained to me that “due to code changes” he would not be able to install the water heater until I got an HVAC company to come make changes in one of our vent pipes. (How I was to arrange for the HVAC tech and the water heater tech to arrive at the same time was not explained, and it seemed obvious to me that one job could not be done without the other, unless we were willing to have a disconnected water heater for several days.) The measurement and photo that made the job impossible, I might add, is one of the early ones I sent to the company. My impression: This company’s customer service is absolutely terrible. Unless you are desperate, look elsewhere. I wasted several days, engaged in multiple phone calls and emails, all for nothing. Now I get to start the process all over again.

Ms [Member Name Removed]: I'm sorry to hear about your frustrations. I'm not sure what happened with the multiple people and measurements as I personally reviewed your pictures. Due to a code change in Prince William county all 75 gallon water heaters require 5" venting. I believed that I had accounted for that by quoting for a State water heater as they are shorter than the Rheem's. What I didn't account for is that changing out the swivel tee to accommodate that 5" venting dropped the overall venting down more than expected. We make every effort possible to insure a successful installation on the first visit. At this time I'm not aware of a 75 gallon tank that will fit with the increased venting size. If we could get it grandfathered in at the county level we would but we have not be successful in ever doing that. Please accept my apologies for the experience that you had with my company.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with our company and your furnace. While we did replace your water heater, the furnace shut off valve was not in the area that we worked. We took careful consideration of the where your furnace valve was located, the time of the year our installation took place, [summer], and how almost 2 months had passed since the homes in our area had to switch to heat because of the unseasonable cold start to winter.

I had to replace a gas water heater that was leaking and called Fairfax Electric, Plumbing & Gas after getting an estimate from one of the major companies you always see on TV and hear on radio. FE, P&G was terrific throughout the entire process. They were able to discuss my options and get me an estimate the same day as I called. They performed the work 3 days after I got an estimate and gave me the option to schedule the installation the next day. From the front office staff to the guys who did the installation, they were professional, prompt, and a pleasure to deal with. Not only that, they were $800 cheaper than their competitor who I originally called. Highly recommend. Would 100% use them again.
