CDT Remodeling

We hired Custom Design Tile to re-tile a shower and they did an exceptional job. Their designer was great in helping us pick out tiles and the work crew was the hardest working bunch I've ever seen. The only breaks they took were for lunch. Brian (the owner) and his son Mike checked the work site daily to make sure things were on track and when unexpected damage was found under the old tile, they quickly formulated a plan to fix it before installing the new tile and kept us informed every step of the way. The final job was superb and I can't recommend them highly enough.

Brian, Mike and their crew were great to work with. They were always on time, quiet (after demo day!) and clean. Brian arranged meetings with designers to choose the materials, and willingly incorporated into the project some tile and a sink that I already had. The workmanship is excellent and we couldn't be happier with the result!

I contacted CDT based solely on reviews here on Angie's List and am so grateful I chose to call them. Brian and his son, Mike, are absolutely top notch and a pleasure to work with. Our job ended up being quite extensive. We initially just wanted our kitchen and sunroom floors re-grouted. As Brian inspected the floor, he noticed that there was no subfloor under the tile, so new grout would only crack again. So, we ended up having both floors completely torn out and new tile put in (with the appropriate subflooring this time!). Wow....what a transformation!! The new tile is stunning! We had a plain red brick fireplace that just looked out of place in our family room. Brian helped us choose some gorgeous slate to re-face it with along with some ceramic tile for the base. I was unsure about it until I saw it all come together. It completely transformed the room! We initially wanted our master bathroom re-tiled and a new vanity installed. Brian had some really great ideas on how to transform what was two cramped rooms comprising the master bathroom into one big open spa-like bathroom. He priced out both options for us...keeping the existing footprint and doing minimal work or opening up the room and transforming it. We chose to do a complete remodel. I still can't get over how gorgeous our new bathroom is! There were people working in our house every day during the job - they put in loads of hours. Everyone was very nice and they always cleaned up each evening before leaving. Our carpets were covered with plastic as we had a lot being moved in and out of the house. Brian and Mike were both very enjoyable to work with. We spent a day with Brian shopping for tile and brick and other things for the remodel...after about two hours with him, I was ready to just let him pick whatever he thought was best. He has excellent taste and knows what will look good together. :-) Cost of the project was clearly communicated each step of the way. I would absolutely call CDT for any additional work we need to have done.

Brian and his team were very professional. They were there evey morning when they said they would be. They were very clean and left everything in order when they left for the day. I didn't feel like I was living in a construction site. The final result was amazing and on time. I've already gotten Brian to quote finishing the basement! You can't miss with these guys!

I usually do not write reviews, but I feel compelled to do it for CDT. We got to CDT because we had a tile company help us install a fireplace hearth and a shower liner and the results were abysmal -- from communication, to scheduling, to quality of workmanship, to work timing, to leaks in the shower liner, to... missing tiles. Given the size of the remainder of the work, we knew we had to change installers, and are so thankful we found CDT. The process for finding a new tile installer on quick turnaround was not easy -- it was busy season, our job was too big to squeeze in, companies promised estimates but never followed through, or all of a sudden had better projects to work on when we got into the details. Then we met the folks at CDT. Brian (the owner) had a very consultative approach. When he walked through the house with us, he was up front with the potential issues -- e.g., walls weren't straight, tubs installed incorrectly, etc. -- and unlike the other tile installers that had come to provide estimates, immediately went into problem-solving mode with us (other installers basically said, oh you need to re-drywall your bathroom). And came up with some cool solutions. We were impressed that Brian was unafraid of the level of detail we went into (which was a turn off for others). CDT's estimate was slightly higher than other tile installers, but given our recent experience, we were anxious to have someone who would "do it right" rather than have to do it again (we had do do our fireplace and shower liner again), especially when it came to the potential of leaks and large format tiles on older walls that were not straight. Brian was very up front about his timing estimate, and when we pushed him for a faster result, he said that he did not rush his guys, and assured us that we would be appreciative of the planning and deliberate-ness of their work. He committed to one crew staying with us through the job (and they did), and promised to supplement with others if they were free; meanwhile we strapped in for a process that would take a month. Fast forward to 3 weeks later (yes, they were done early), we could not be more pleased with our results. Everyone that walks through comments on the great tile. I don't even know how to describe it except that the work is beautiful. The problematic older walls were straightened. There were design elements that Brian discussed with us (e.g., do we really want to use pencils when the rest of the design was more contemporary), the crews also raised potential design issues with us (e.g., grout might be too dark for backsplash, whether a border should be put around an access panel, etc.), and which we adjusted, and the result couldn't be better. Mike, who was project manager of the work, communicated extensively with us in the beginning until CDT and we were comfortable about any decision that needed to be made, whether it was layouts, size of tile base, placement of shower shelves, etc., and in doing so, did a great job managing our expectations. Finally, we cannot say enough about the crews that did the work. They were respectful of our work site, they kept the work areas clean, they were friendly and approachable, and one of the crew leaders, Jose, who has been with CDT for 20 years, is a true artisan. As if all that weren't enough, CDT guarantees their work for 2 years. We really cannot say enough about CDT, nor can we more highly recommend them. You would be lucky to have them work on your home.

Brian was a pleasure to work with. I wasn't sure what I wanted, so he took me to several showrooms to work with designers. He was respectful of my budget and also realistic about whether it was possible to make changes (e.g., tear out a wall bump, move a toilet). He was willing to give his opinion about my choices and to suggest alternatives. His workers were incredibly polite, friendly, and kept the work areas clean. They put down plastic over the hall and stairs leading to the bathroom and cleaned up every day before they left. Minor mistakes (which always occur during a remodel) were quickly remedied. Brian takes pride in his work and is upfront and ethical. Our bathrooms look amazing - more so than I even thought possible. Highly recommend.

Everything went great. The team was professional, punctual, and very flexible when I made changes as the project was in progress. Due to a previous contractor, the grout stain looked uneven and the Custom Design Tile team helped to problem solve a corrective action, came back out to perform the solution, and now everything looks perfect. Great experience and hope to have them out to assist with other projects in the future.

Excellent. Brian and his installers, Jose and Orlando, were great. They worked with me to keep the cost of this unplanned repair reasonable. They were on time, maintained a clean work area, were professional, and did great work.

Brian came up with an estimate that I thought was reasonable and a few days later he arranged to meet at a tile store with one of their consultants. With only the vaguest idea of what I wanted, with the help of Brian and the consultant I was able to choose the tile and accessories for the bathroom in fairly short order. Brian's crew arrived as scheduled and completed the work within the week. About a week after that they came back to install the new shower door. I couldn't be more pleased with the results. The crew did a great job of not only the bathroom work but cleaning up after themselves every day. I would highly recommend this company or use them again myself.

Brian was the consummate professional. We met at a wholesale tile store to go over selections. Brian fully explained the scope of the project and its costs. He also offered bids to repair the drywall frame, drywall, and paint, which were competitive, so we gave him the work, largely based on his reputation of doing good work. The project went smoothly and took two or three days. One minor glitch - a CDT worker accidentally drove a nail into the interior drain line, and some water came out. Brian offered to call the interior drain company to repair the line. The company charged a repair fee (~$250) to fix. I didn't hold CDT responsible; I forgot to tell Brian about the location of the drain line. I was glad Brian offered to supervise the repair so I did not have to miss work that day. This work was completed last April. (My policy is to write a review after a while to report on any warranty or quality issues after the job - sorry this one took a year, Brian.) Our basement has remained dry and CDT's work looks terrific. I would use CDT and Brian again in a heartbeat.

CDT was very professional. Owner Brian Brennan met with us several times and answered questions directly. He walked us through the process and spent a day taking us around to select tiles, countertops, cabinets, fixtures, etc. Once work began, he visited the site almost every day, and informed us about each step as the project went through demo, plumbing, electrical, tiling, etc. The project came in on the schedule he provided and on budget. He is a "straight shooter," which was much appreciated after some other less satisfactory experiences with other home remodelers.

Custom Design Tile's work was very professional. When you compare their work to the work done by another contractor in one of my other bathrooms, you can see a difference when it comes down to the details. The clean edges and custom finishing touches done by Custom Design Tile truly shows that this company has experience and does the job right. They were on time and completed the job in a timely manner. The pricing was fair. They completed all of the work that was listed in the contract. They took preventive measures to ensure my floors throughout their traveling path of my house remained clean and undisturbed.

We have been dreaming about creating a luxurious and functional MBR for 13 years and Brian's team at Custom Design Tile turned our dream into a reality! The space is exactly what we wanted and we absolutely love it. We interviewed several contractors that wanted to force their ideas on us, but Brian listened to our wishes and helped guide us to our beautiful bathroom. We did have a couple of issues during the process but Brian was always responsive. The Custom Design construction crew were always respectful, pleasant and very tidy! We would work on another project with Custom Design Tile.

From start to finish, the owner, Brian Brennan, was there to help us make decisions, fix any issues, and answer questions. He clearly takes great pride in his work and is a true professional. All of the sub-contractors that Brian uses are top-notch. I can't say enough good things about this project. We shared our vision with Brian and he simply made it happen.

Professional, detailed, experienced and NICE. From the start, everyone who worked at our home was patient, calm and determined to resolve issues. I started with Brian who came over to inspect the job and get a sense of the scope of work. I selected Custom Design Tile because after our meeting, I felt that he could handle anything that arose (and after doing an extensive pop-up 16 years ago, I know that once demo starts, things always come up!) He helped start me off with the selection of tile and fixtures, meeting me at two stores. Once the project began, the crew was clean and efficient. They arrived on time and worked productively. Two issues did come up during the renovation: First, the mold that was peeking through the existing tile was a bit more extensive than anticipated. Our contract did not include replacing insulation and framing. We talked and I wasn't comfortable leaving the existing wood framing even after treatment. For CDT, no problem! Not an issue. They extended the scope of the project and got the job done right and at a fair price. Second, the light fixtures arrived bent. There was a significant delay in obtaining replacement sconces. Once they did arrive, Mike was prompt getting back to me to schedule the final day to install the last items to complete the project. The final invoice included credits for items that I wound up purchasing on my own but for which we had initially contracted. Can't say enough good things with how pleased we are! The tiling job is excellent! Well thought out, clean, and beautiful. If you can, hire people you like!

As always, the damage was worse than expected, but Custom Tile talked through what the additional work would be and how it would impact the cost and schedule. The adjustment was fair and reasonable all the work was done professionally and as quickly as it could be without compromising the quality.

They were very professional. They gave us a very detailed quote. They weren’t particularly crazy about doing a small job. They were a little hesitant to provide the quote but they did. I think the value wasn’t worth the investment.

The entire project was professionally done. Contractors were scheduled in a way to keep the project moving along very effectively. The core of the project was the tiling of the shower. We received help in picking out the tile and the installation was beautiful. We even changed our mind about replacing the toilet in the middle of the job. No problem, they handled the change request in a timely and cost effective manner. All the sub contractors they used from windows to glass doors to electrical and painting were excellent. Though the quote from Custom Design Tile was not the lowest, we went with them based on quality expectations and were very pleased with the outcome. We would certainly look to use them again for future projects.
