Brian and his is crew were wonderful. Brian always came out ahead of his crew to set up and make sure everything was ready to go. The crew was always on time, protected my hardwood floors from my front door all the way into the bathroom. They finished ahead of schedule, and Brian came out at the end of the job to inspect the work they had done. I would highly recommend Brian and his crew. I was very pleased and plan on using them again for additional home projects.
Description of Work: I had two bathrooms retiled with new tile on both baths. One bathroom had two walls torn down and they were replaced with the new waterresistant/waterproof drywall. That same bathroom, the floor was re-tiled.

This is the second bathroom we've had remodeled by Custom Design Tile, and the result is just as beautiful as the first. Their tile setters do an exceptional job of precisely laying out the tile pattern and executing the installation to perfection. They did a fantastic job of aligning and installing a full wall of glass mosaic tile that is the focal point of the room. They always arrive on time, maintain a tidy work area and clean up carefully each evening. We are very happy with our new bathroom and can recommend Brian and his crew without hesitation.
Description of Work: Removed a cast iron tub, surrounding mud set tile walls and floor and linen closet. Relocated the toilet drain and water supply. Installed a new cast iron tub, drain and single handle faucet, rain-type shower head, diverter and hand-held shower, and towel bar. Installed new wall tile in the tub alcove, a mosaic tile accent wall and new floor tile on a mud base. Installed a new drywall ceiling and patched demolished wall areas to match existing plaster walls.

We contacted three vendors from Angie's list to compare prices, products and scope of service. Brian Brennan was able to provide an estimate the same week we called. He provided us with a quote the same day. Wow! After getting estimates from two other tile experts (this took almost three weeks to schedule with the others AND get their quotes) we were ready to make a final decision. We had some very specific questions that Brian answered in the morning of the following day. Again. Wow! Brian worked with our schedule by meeting us early one morning at Mosiac Tile in Chantilly. He was helpful as was Cameron our design consultant. With their help we were able to narrow down our choices to two and brought our samples home to examine in the light of our kitchen. The tile installers arrived promptly on the first day, and began removing the old tile. This was a loud and messy process which Brian warned us about. The installers covered everything with plastic, closed off rooms and went to work. When I came home at 2pm the tiles were all removed. Ahead of schedule! The installers were always good about telling us what the next step would be and how long it would take. They also moved our fridge out to the garage and plugged it in so we could use it. I thought we would be eating out at every meal. But the workers always left a little space to get around so I was able to cook or serve food. Each day the crew arrived between 8 and 8:30am. Either Michael a supervisor or Brian stopped by as well in to see how things were going. I use my basement as an office so I had to frequently go through the kitchen to get downstairs. The installers, who by the way do meticulous work, were good about making sure I was able to get downstairs when needed without interfering with their progress. I must say, I was dreading this project because I don't like chaos. But the job took one less day than predicted, everyone was so professional AND they cleaned up! Great work. I would definately use Custom Design Tile again.

It went superbly. I called Brian after another contractor had left me waiting and waiting for a commitment date to do work. When he finally cancelled me, I looked here on Angies List and called Brian. He came out immediately, surveyed what needed to be done (we had already done all the demo work except removing the fiberglass tub and enclosure). We provided him the tile info from TAC Tile based on our choices. He promptly gave us an estimate and was able to get his team out much faster than we would have thought. Modesto and Selmo did a grand job; they are expert craftsmen at all facets of the job, and very hard-working. The results are beautiful and we are super-pleased. Brian came out almost dailiy to check progress and to answer any questions or concerns (we had zero). This was a most excellent experience, and we highly recommend this company. All of our bathrooms have now been redone, but we would gladly use them again if we had a need.
Description of Work: Renovation of two bathrooms. In the larger one, removed a fiberglass tub enclosure, reframed, installed a new Kohler tub and drainset, installed master valve, diverter valve for handheld, handheld slider bar; tiled to crown molding around tub with a special niche inset into one wall, and tiled floor (and linen closet) with new threshhold. In second bathroom, installed new master valve, and tiled small walk-in shower stall to ceiling, installed new drain pan and drain, tiled floor in bathroom and closet area.

Brian is totally awesome!!! Long story short, we had a major problem with out project as a result of old plumbing. This resulted in an indefinite delay and working hand-in-hand with out building to schedule a water shut-off. Brian was completely flexible and accommodating, and his crew was able to install new shut-off valves during an already scheduled maintenance period, saving us ~$1,000. Brian and his crew also showed up to every appointment on-time and prepared. I can't even describe in words the quality of workmanship displayed, but it's without fault. I have no higher recommendation or praise for a contractor I've met over Angie's List. Brain, you're the best. Michael and Suzi

We asked several companies to give us a quote to remove the old tile from a bathroom, install new tile, install new tile on the bathroom floor and install a new shower head and faucet. Brian and his team were fantastic. Brian was very responsive in setting up a time to give us an estimate and very responsive in getting the work started. We have been doing a remodel of our house for over a year and this was by far the most professional and enjoyable experience. CDT's team was on time, professional and extremely courteous. The work was done perfectly the first and was done in an extremely efficient manner. My wife and I are very pleased with the new bathroom and would recommend Custom Design Tile to anyone.

After meeting with several contractors, we hired Brian to remodel our Master Bath. This was our first remodel project, and we were nervous about it. Choosing Brian was the best decision we could have made. He was easy to contact, very responsive, and not too pushy or sales-like, which was a huge plus for us. His estimate was very reasonable and he was great about keeping us on budget. He was very helpful picking out materials. He accompanied me to the tile store, the plumbing supply store, and the cabinet manufacturers - and he had some great design ideas. Also, he was a huge help when it came to buying our marble counter tops. There was really only one slab that I loved and he pulled through for me and got me that slab. That's dedication and service! :) This job involved knocking down a wall to make the existing bathroom one large room with double vanity, large linen closet, large shower and a sitting vanity area with tons of storage (which is my favorite part of the remodel.) Steve, who was here almost every day, did a fantastic job. He is meticulous and his attention to detail did not go unnoticed. He did an amazing job with the cabinets and molding and took care of most of the other details in the bathroom - not to mention picking out a beautiful, thick, pocket door which is a vast improvement on the previous door. He also had some great design ideas and was a pleasure to have in our home every day. I don't want to leave out the tile layers (the tile work is beautiful!), plumbers, painters, and electricians. All the workers were pleasant and cleaned up after their portion of the job was completed. Even the demolition crew was great - quick and clean! We couldn't be happier with our first remodel project, and we will definitely recommend Brian and his crew. We will most certainly hire Brian again for any future home remodel projects. The hardest part has already been taken care of. We found a great contractor we can trust!

In September, 2013, after interviewing four contractors, we hired Brian Brennan to remodel two full baths and a powder room. The scope of the work involved complete demolition of the rooms and the expansion of one bathroom to include a hall linen closet. Our experience with Brian and his crew was positive from the very beginning. Brian took the time to listen to our requests and include every detail in the estimate, which for us (first time remodelers) was the key to a smooth remodel. He worked closely with us to choose quality materials that would fit in the budget. The final cost came in exactly on budget and was at least 20% less than the other contractors estimates. Brian methodically scheduled each step of the renovation so the maximum amount of work was completed in the least time. He answered all of my questions and explained what would happen each day so there were no surprises. He finished our project two weeks early! The workmanship exceeded expectations and the tile work is exceptional! We will definitely recommend Brian to all our friends and neighbors. l

From the first Brian Brennan (the owner of the company) pledged to stay within our budget and we did so. I appreciated the honesty of the estimate (no hidden costs, and very clear what additional items we were responsible for). Brian accompanied me to the tile store and the plumbing supply store and with his experience he was able to steer me to something in our price range. All the men that came to work at our house were very considerate and cleaned up each day as much as possible. The painters and the tile layers did a meticulous job. Mike and Steve who did everything else (installing cabinet, plumbing, lighting and incidentals) were polite, efficient and always able to answer my many questions. The result was stunning! We went from a 1970s bathroom (basically original with the house) to a modern beautiful bathroom. I would recommend this company highly and when we can afford it, I would have them come again to do another job.

The kitchen was completely destroyed. A wall between the kitchen and dining room was removed, as was the 1' soffet on top of the existing cabinets. This meant the new cabinets could go to the ceiling, gaining extra space lost when the wall and cabinets were removed. The old tile floor was removed as were all appliances except for the fridge to give me a place to store breakfasts and lunches. One the new floor was installed, they moved the fridge to the dining room until it was time to install the new one. All the same crews from the bathroom renovations were here again. Nice to see old faces again and even the dogs remembered them. Just as a note , I was cooking in my kitchen 11/15, although there were some fine finishing left to do. That was completed this week - a week to two weeks early! It has really opened up the area. I can talk to people in the dining room and living room while I am cooking. Quite different from the 43 years before. The floor, cabinets, back splash and granite counter top are beautiful. I was able to have the painters do the dining room, living room, foyer and hallway the same color as the kitchen for an additional charge. As usual, I know who was coming and when and what they would be doing every day. Their work is super and everything is cleaned up prior to the crew leaving. I would definitely recommend CDT and in fact have to 3 friends. Quality, craftsmanship, customer service - all of these describe the staff working with CDT.
Description of Work: Brian Brennan contacted me to discuss remodeling my kitchen, which we had discussed when he did my bathrooms. We discussed the project. I wanted to be done by Thanksgiving and Brian said I might have everything except the granite counter top. He said I might be serving on heavy plywood (mmm...not happy but doable)..

I identified Custom Design Tile from the positive reviews on Angie's List. Brian replied the same day to my initial e-mail and then promptly came out to view the project. He offered suggestions on options for renovating the Master Bath (to include enlarging the existing shower and installing a frameless shower; retiling the bath floor, shower enclosure, and adjacent bathtub surround; and installing new vanity top) and for updating the Guest Bath (refreshing tile and installing a semi-frameless shower and vanity top). I received the bid within 2 working days, as promised, and for what I consider a very competitive and reasonable price (with allowances for materials purchased through the contractor). All it took was one more telephone conversation to discuss some minor project details, and we were able to sign a contract - and start work within the week! The major portion of the work was completed from Monday through Friday, in only 5 days - thanks Jose and Orlando! Brian, Mike and the glass installers returned on 3 different days, to measure and install showers, and hang mirrors and new lighting. I had been dreading these renovations and working with contractor(s) yet, from start to finish, this was a painless process for me. From Brian's responsiveness, to the punctuality and good-naturedness of all the staff, especially in transporting materials up and trash down stairs in my apartment building, it was a pleasure working with Custom Design Tile. One would never know that there were workers in my apartment, as they were quiet and left the area clean at the end of each work day. I am very pleased with the final results, and would recommend this company without reservation.

Brian came to review the job and provide an estimate. After acceptance of the estimate we met at the tile store to consider options. Both Brian and the tile store experts were most helpful in providing tile options to consider, as well as styles and patterns. Once we chose the design and tile it was about a week to a week and a half before Brian called to say they could fit our small job into the schedule. The actual work took two days, one to remove the old flooring, lay the sub-floor and cut and position the tile. They then came back the second day to grout and finish the work. There was one hitch to the job in that the height of the tile interfered with the smooth closing of the front door, but Brian came out himself within a day and revolved the issue. The floor is beautiful and an amazing improvement over the tired, worn wood flooring that was almost 50 years old.
Description of Work: Removed existing wood flooring from the entrance way, added additional plywood to stabilize the floor and replaced it with porcelain tile.

I contacted CDT about remodeling a bathroom in a rental condo. The owner, Brian Brennan, promised that the work could be completed in five days. As promised, the remodeling was completed in five days. The installers, Modesto and Celso, were professional, conscientious, did a great job, and left the condo immaculate at the end of each day. In fact, the tenant commented to me several times about how diligent they were in keeping the condo clean (and she was amazed at how sparkling they were able to get the tub). Brian was responsive to my questions and concerns while I was deciding who to hire for the project and during the remodeling. When I contacted him about a minor issue that was discovered the Saturday afternoon after the work was completed, he arrived by 9 am the following Monday to fix it. And the bathroom is beautiful!
Description of Work: CDT remodeled a full bath. They gutted the bathroom except for the tub. New tile was installed around the tub to the ceiling and on the floor. They also installed a toilet, vanity and granite countertop, a wall cabinet, plumbing fixtures, and accessories. (I supplied the vanity, wall cabinet, toilet, faucets and accessories. The cost included countertop, sink, and tile.)

The whole process took about a week and even though the areas were in the most intimate parts of our home, Brian and his tile team were very aware and took special care to cover our wood floors, keep the work in progress areas organized and tidy during and after each day of work. They were open to slight idea changes and included me in asking about placements of the shower heights, tile shower seat and other details that could have just been put in without my imput. I appreciated the time they took to make the process go as smooth as possible. We had a couple of unexpected issues arise, but the items were fixed and taken care of quickly. Brian had great plumbing and tile shops for us to consider and we were able to find the look we wanted for fair price. He was always quick to respond to our calls or e-mails. He helped to keep us on budget, especially when we saw more options and wanted to add more features. He was willing to give us his thoughts all during our remodel and helped us to make smart and long lasting decsions that we would enjoy for years to come, as well as add value to our home. Having work done in your home is never easy, with all the upheaval, new faces and equipment that come along with it.....but Brian and his team made the experience a great one for us. We would not hesitate to have him or his team work again in our home.He really listened, gave good advice on his past expreiences and in his words..."Gave us the most bang for the buck!"
Description of Work: Brian was one of three estimates that I had come to the house to look at 2 of our 3 outdated bathrooms. Both were located in the upstairs area of the house and were the lovely dated yellow and blue tiles of the 1960's. I conveyed my wishes for an update to both bathrooms, knowing that we were not going to create my "dream" bathrooms, but work within the bathroom footprint and bring them up to date with more neutral colors and plumbing fixtures. He listened, had ideas and even some tile selections, that we actually went with in the end. I feel he really took the time to listen to what we wanted and guided us toward a look that would be updated, without going too much over our budget.

Splendid! Brian's son (sorry, I cannot remember his name), Madesto, and Celso showed up on time and worked their butts off all three days. Being interested in home improvement, they entertained all of my questions and kept me informed during the whole process. There were some finishing touches that had to wait for me to install the toilet and vanity, but when I finished, they came out the same day to finish the job off. Custom Design Tile was able to work within my budget and accommodated the work that I wanted to do my self. I would absolutely recommend their services to anyone.

We highly recommend this company. They were recommended to us by a tile store in the area. Brian was available to come in over on a weekend and provide us with an estimate the day after our initial call. We took multiple bids on this project, in part because we weren't sure exactly how we wanted it done. We appreciated that CDT was willing to break the bid down into parts that helped us decide how to balance cost and aesthetic concerns. At all stages in the process, CDT was prompt in getting back with us, and it was really easy to move the paperwork along. Furthermore, CDT was somehow better than the other contractors at finding a good match for our existing bathroom tile (several contractors had claimed it would simply be impossible to match what we already had, but CDT found an excellent match). Once the work was underway, CDT again did a great job. They arrived and left when they said they would. Their workers were polite, communicative, clean, efficient and responsive. After they did the demo work, we discovered damage to our subfloor that needed slight repairs before the job could proceed. Brian was able to return within less than an hour to review the situation with us, recommend a repair, and continue on with the work. We are relatively new homeowners, and we had great confidence in Brian's expertise and trusted him to make good recommendations. Best of all, because the repairs were relatively minor, CDT conducted them without charging us extra for the job. It's hard to imagine how things could have gone any more smoothly. The workmanship on the shower tile was very good, and we are pleased with the way our shower looks now. We will eagerly hire this team again for any similar work.
Description of Work: We had a single shower ripped out and replaced with new tile, floor to ceiling. The job included re-waterproofing and installing fixtures, as well as a bit of drywall repair.

I emailed the company and received a call from Brian Brennan within 1 hour. I asked him if he could come after 6PM to do an estimate so my daughter and son-in-law could be here too. No problem. When I accepted the estimate, he told me we could start in 2 days by meeting him at the tile company to select tiles for the bathrooms and then go to the bath fixture store to select the tub, faucets, showers, etc. At both places he had already pre-selected items that he thought I would like (and he was right). I was able to stay within the budget for these items. He also gave me a list of things I needed to but (medicine cabinets, lights, towel racks, toilet paper holders, etc). From June 7 until yesterday I knew exactly who was coming the next day and what they were doing. Every one of the 'teams' ere courteous, efficient and masters of their area. Every team cleaned up before they left. (Now, I still have construction dust in the master bedroom to deal with before I can move back in, but I expected that.) Everything possible was done to contain the dirt, grit, etc from the destruction and construction. Every day either Brian or Michael (his son) were here deliver supplies needed for the current or the next day's work, introduce me to the day's work team, check on progress, show me what had been done and explain what was scheduled for the following day. I have already recommended CDT to a neighbor who needs work done and I plan to use them to remodel my kitchen this fall. It truly was a pleasure working with Brian and all of his crews. Each is a master in his craft.

This was a small project, as we did most of our kitchen renovation ourselves, and some contractors did not even return my initial call. Brian Brennan was responsive and professional from the point of the first call until after work completion. Our project was treated as importantly as any other, regardless of its size. We received the estimate within 24 hours, we had a positive experience with the tile store and designer recommended to us, and the installers were on time, courteous, and did an excellent job. Our questions were answered promptly and thoroughly during the entire process.

Due to prior bad experiences with contractors, I have been reluctant to use contractors. Unfortunately, renovating a bathroom is beyond my capabilities. From the first time that I contacted Brian for an estimate, he was very prompt and professional. The work began on the day as scheduled and was completed within the committed timeframe. The team did an outstanding job; always meticulous, prompt and professional. Exceptional customer service and satisfaction was definitely a priority. The tile work is superb! I am extremely pleased with the end result and would highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: Renovated small master bathroom, removing shower door, pan, wall and floor tiles. Also removed toilet and vanity. Installed green board and Kerdi membrane on walls in shower and durock on floor. Installed new toilet, vanity and exhaust fan. (Cost of $7500 included allowance of $1000 for cost of tiles. Brian and his crew were fantastic. - They provided a good and market level quote - Brian helped us pick out the tile and was helpful in the design process - Crew was great, kept our home clean and always came on time. -Work was good quality and they called to ask us questions along the way if there was a decision to make (direction of tile, etc) -Very happy with end result They even re-did one section of the tile I did not like for no extra charge. They are a great company and I would highlight recommend them for tile work. My only complaint was that the bathtub put in our second bathroom has a section where the glaze is think so the steel shows through. Highly recommend Brian and Custom Design Tile.
Description of Work: We had two bathrooms updated with Custom Design Tile. In both bathrooms they took out all existing tile and layed down new tile for the floor and the shower walls. New hardware was added in both bathrooms. In the master bathroom, they also removed the old tub and added a new tub.

From start to finish this remodel was a great experience. Everyone-all crew members, and sub contractors like the granite delivery folks were on time and extremely patient when I asked questions about materials or methods they were using. The space and house were kept relatively clean due to plastic on the carpet and a dust door put up due to my allergies. The master bath and closet were both completed on time and budget. This included a complete demo to the studs, expanding and reframing the space, new insulation, a kerdi system under the tile in the shower, tunnel light through the roof, recessed lighting, installation of a linen closet, cabinets, double sink, ceiling fan, exhaust fan, beautiful new walk in shower with all the bells and whistles we wanted including a bench seat, rainwater and hand held shower heads, moved the HVAC duct in the closet, installed tile floor to ceiling and a heated floor, all new lighting above the sinks, moved the toilet, and installed all the finishing touches, towel bar etc. We would highly recommend Custom Tile Design under the ownership and direction of Brian.
Description of Work: CDT did a total demolition of our 1986 "master" aka tiny bathroom and closet. The key hiring point for us was that Brian first recommended by a friend, he was prompt in responding to our inquiry and most critically he listened to what we wanted and stayed within our budget. Brian brought us a design that worked for our space, doubling our square footage for the bathroom and closet. The workmanship was amazing including the attention to detail and assistance in picking out fixtures, tile, including green features which were very important to us.

Brian and his crew provided professional service, excellent work, and lovely personality while tiling three complete bathrooms. They obviously take pride in the work, and it was a pleasure to have them in my home. I highly recommend CDT.
Description of Work: Brian's crew installed tile in 3 full bathrooms. They installed marble and a marble mosaic on the floor in the master bath. The steam shower was properly prepared with the Kurdi system before the application of ceramic tile. Two other full baths received stone tiles on the floors, ceramic tiles in the showers, and custom sized and built niches. They also installed radiant floor heat in two of the baths.

I was very pleased by the meticulous work done in my sauna by Custom Design Tile. Brian Brennan came to my home to check the worksite and promptly followed up with an estimate. I wasn't sure what flooring to use in the sauna. Brian recommended porcelain tile, and I found that porcelain was also highly recommended by online sauna sites. He then met me at Mosaic Tile Company to choose the tile that would be within the budget for his estimate. I picked out a beautiful Atlas Concorde style Beige Safari tile in matte finish. Brian sent Mike and Grover to do the work on a Friday. They carefully deconstructed the sauna seats and then laid and grouted the tile. The large tiles with the broken joint pattern turned out to be elegant. On Monday, Mike and Brian reconstructed the sauna wood. They did a great job reinstalling the cedar without damaging it. The wooden seats are now more securely installed than they were previously. Custom Design Tile was highly recommended to me by another contractor who has worked on my home. I checked them out on Angie's List which showed excellent ratings. Their work for me was in line with these recommendations and ratings.
Description of Work: Custom Design Tile installed a porcelain tile floor in my 8' x 8' sauna. Brian Brennan recommended large 12'x24' tiles with a broken joint pattern on the concrete floor in the sauna. To do this, he had to remove the cedar sauna benches that were nailed to the floor and reinstall them after the tile and grouting was finished.
