Suburban Welding installed rails at my house. The company was prompt, thorough, and price competitive. They did a beautiful job at my house. I would use this company again and recommend it to others, without reservation.

Paul was great. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He has been in the business for many years and knew what he was doing and gave me fair warning that since the brickwork was done in the 60s that there was a possibility that removing the old railing and installing a new one would damage the existing brick. It worked out fine, but I really appreciated Paul being upfront about it. The railing looks great and I know my child will be safe now. Paul was there from start to finish. He is trustworthy and I would definitely recommend him.

Called to see if this company would do this small job. Received a call and they came to look at the problem the same day. The next day, the work was done and he even painted the part that was welded. Very happy with Suburban Welding. Prompt and very friendly service!

This was a seamless process, easily accomplished, though pricey enough. A safety railing to guiding entry up six steps to my row house was built and installed promptly and has served us well.

Paul is obviously a gentleman and a very helpful contractor. He arrived on time to our estimate meeting and spend close to 40 minutes evaluating my plans extensively with me. After our discussion, he told me that iron rails were not ideal in my situation and recommended that I install wood rails instead. I asked him whether he could do that and how much he would charge me. To my surprise, he told me that his company doesn't do carpentry, only metalwork, and then he spent another 20 minutes or so giving me recommendations as to how to do the wood rails. He even walked with me to neighboring homes to see their wood rails. In other words, he spent over an hour of his time simply to share with me his expert advise. I was amazed by his generosity. It is great to know that, in this day and age, there are still people around that devote their time to be helpful to others. I have decided to follow his advice and go for wood rails and, while I regret I will not do work with him for now, I will definitely call him for my future iron needs.

Great. They advised us that they would come, at some indeterminate time, and remove the sections of fence and that they would later replace them after making the repairs. All of this was performed on the basis of a phone call; no contract was signed and no deposit was made. My wife arrived at our home as they were making the final repairs and installation; it was only then that they asked for payment, and in doing so they offered a 10% discount, apparently just because my wife is a pleasant person to deal with. I still haven't met these folks, but I can vouch for the quality of their work and their "old-fashioned" business practices and values.
Description of Work: We had several sections of wrought iron fencing removed and repaired/straightened, and two wrought iron gates repaired with new latches and a baluster.

I purchased "vintage" wrought iron bed on eBay but it had no side rails. I bought bolts on side rails for the bed. When attempting to install the side rails for the twin size mattress set, the foot of the bed accommodated the box spring, but the head of the bed needed 1 inch more width for the side rails to accommodate the head of the box spring! I called Suburban Welding, talked with Paul and he told me to bring the bed over. I had a deadline to meet with family coming into town and I needed the bed set up for guests. The best time for me to drop off the bed was a Sunday evening. I took the rails and the head and foot boards to Paul. He was perplexed that the situation even existed, diagnosed the problem of "after market" conversion. Knowing I did not want to spend a tremendous amount on the job, he studied and studied how to get the iron brackets on the headboard to marry up with the bolt on side rails to allow a minimum of 38 inch clearance for the box spring...He patiently spent almost an hour with me discussing options and then came to the solution to weld the bolts on to the iron plates rather than drill new holes, etc. He mentioned that it usually took a week when a job came in and that he would do his best to get the work done before my guests arrived on Friday. He called me on Tuesday to say the job was complete. I went right over and picked up the bed and set it up in time for my guests to enjoy. I am very pleased!
Description of Work: Paul welded four bolts (2 on each) on to the iron plates of the headboard to line up with the faceplate of the bolt on side rails. I found him professional, courteous, and efficient. He is a member of the National Ornamental and Miscellaneous Metal Association (NOMMA). His shop was amazing! It was so clean and orderly! Of note: Paul is a Vietnam veteran (3 tours) and a police force retiree! I commend and thank him for his service and continued patriotism!

Suburban repaired and stabilized the wrought iron staircase, and also diagnosed the problem as not only age, but the instability of the ground the stairs rested on. Consequently, once the stairs were repaired I had a concrete slab put in as footing for the steps - thus saving future problems. In addition Paul talked about the history of wrought iron stairs in Washington - it was fun to learn the name of the company that manufactured my steps and something about them. Overall, Suburban was thoroughly professional: they told me what needed to be done, did it when they said they would, and called me when it was finished.
Description of Work: I called Suburban to get an estimate on replacing a wrought iron railing from the sidewalk to the bottom of the stairs, then running a railing from the banister to the front of the house. Paul Ponzelli of Suburban was the 2nd welder to give an estimate. However, he concluded I did not need a welder, since the existing railing was plumbers pipe and could be replaced by a plumber, then buttressed by a spot weld. In fact, I conferenced Paul in with Raciel from Brookland plumbing, and they came to an understanding of what needed to be done in a few minutes. The bill from Brookland was less than half the amount I was quoted by the 1st welder. Once that issue was solved though, a closer look at my 100 year old wrought iron stairs revealed they were unstable, getting worse and badly in need of repair.

Paul, the owner of Suburban Welding, provided knowledgeable advice on the city's rules and requirements and also about possible complications associated with underground utilities. The job was done on time and within budget. It looks great. Suburban Welding did security work for me on two other Georgetwon properties several years ago. Same story: knowledgeable advice and timely delivery.

They were prompt in returning our calls and completed all of the work without a signed contract or down payment. "Paul" advised us over the phone that one day we would discover several sections of wrought iron fencing missing and that days later we would discover the fence repaired and returned, and our two gates repaired with new latches. This is exactly what occurred (yes, we were initially quite skeptical), and after the work was completed we were left with a bill, including a discount from the original estimate, which we paid by check a few days later. Pretty amazing service from a company that had no prior experience with us...
