Overall the job went excellent. They did a nice job. There were small things but they took care of it. We liked their design process very much; the way that they got my wife involved. They treated us very well and we just liked that too. They are highly recommendable and they do a very nice job.
Description of Work: We used Select Kitchen & Bath to get our entire kitchen re-done. They put in new appliances, stone floors, cabinets, and countertops. They also did painting work and a lot of electrical and plumbing work.

I was very satisfied working with Rick, the company owner, who provided the proposed estimate. Of three companies that came to my place to give me estimates, he was the last one to see it but the first one to submit a proposal. In discussing the proposal with me, he pointed out the areas where the costs might change (e.g., items that I selected that were over the bid amount). Each time I selected an item that was over what had been bid, we did a contract modification, so it was clear what I was paying for at all times. During this initial phase of the project, Rick was very responsive. The entire project got off to a great start when I was introduced via email to everyone who would work on the project and was told their roles--the project manager, the workmen, the billing person, etc.--as well as who were the principals in the company. At each step in the renovation project, I was contacted by the person in charge of that phase. I selected the shower flooring, called "sliced pebble tile", from an online company in CA and paid for that myself. Other items that I selected with the designer included the subway tile for the shower, a decorative tile to break up the subway tile, the floor tile, the granite countertop and the cabinets, all of which were more than what had been bid and for which there was a contract modification. In other areas, such as the plumbing hardware and the toilet, what I selected was less than what was bid. It was also up to me to select some of the hardware such as drawer pulls, vanity lights, door handle, etc. that I got at places like Home Depot. The work was very professional. If there were questions, I would meet with the workman to discuss options and he would help me decide what I wanted. Since a project of this size was a first for me, it helped to talk things out with the professional. I had wanted to get a pocket door installed but that was not possible due to what was behind the walls. Instead, I got a frosted glass door that I am very pleased with. The only problem I had was dealing with the project manager who was not very good at communicating. There were times when the length of the project was extended because he had not communicated with me about some detail. For example, he did not tell me that I would not be able to get the pocket door I was hoping for. Instead, I had to find that out from the workman almost at the end of the project. They were going to put the old door back on. However, I wanted more light in the windowless bathroom and decided on a frosted glass door, which because of the size of the door, had to be specially made, which added a few weeks to the length of the project. Instead, had I been told I wouldn't get it as soon as they knew, the new door could have been ordered much earlier in the project and the finish date would not have been extended. At one point, no one showed up for about a week and I did not hear from the project manager about why no work was done during that period of time. When the workman returned, he said he was out because his wife had a baby and he was with her. In another instance, because of a lighting configuration change in the bathroom, I told the PM to hold off on ordering the mirror for that room but to go ahead with the mirror for the dressing room because that one was fine. Instead, he told the workman not to order either mirror, which delayed the end of the project for weeks. When the mirror for the dressing room finally arrived, it had a crack in it and a replacement had to be ordered, causing yet another delay. If the mirror had been ordered at the time the countertops were installed, it would not have delayed the project. I think the role of the project manager is to keep the client happy, and the way to keep the client happy is communicate, communicate, communicate. That's all any customer would ask. Now that the work is complete, however, I love my bathroom and feel like I'm living in a new home. It's beautiful and I'm so happy I had the work done. I would definitely recommend this company and might have more work done by them in the future. I thought the price was reasonable and was not surprised by the cost.
Description of Work: My bathroom and dressing room were totally renovated. The tub was removed and replaced with a shower stall that had a bigger footprint than the tub. The project included new flooring, sink, vanity with black granite countertop for both the bathroom and dressing room area, new hardware, new door, new ceiling fan, new vanity lights, new mirrors and newly painted walls and ceiling. Some of the items were mine to select, others I selected with their designer.

The entire process went very smoothly; we couldn't be more pleased with the experience and end result. When choosing a company, we compared Select to a couple other highly rated companies on Angie's List. Though Select had a bit of a higher price, I just had to go with them. Unlike the other companies, who told me what I wanted, Select brought in a designer who ASKED us what we liked. Rick and David were responsive, professional, patient and friendly. They incorporated our wants/needs and then made excellent recommendations (island drawer microwave, drawers for pots and pans, etc). Ira, the contractor who did the work, was amazing. We loved his attention to detail, and appreciated his repeated offers to go above and beyond (closing up a crawl space vent, helping with our makeshift basement kitchen during the reno, etc). I had heard horror stories about kitchen renos, from the reno dust and dirt to the delays. Ira kept the place spotless and they finished on time. To this day, our 3-yr-old says "we need to call Mr. Ira" whenever we have something that needs fixing. We have recommended this company to all of our friends and colleagues and definitely recommend you call them for an estimate before making a decision.
Description of Work: Select Kitchen & Bath completely overhauled my small, galley kitchen into a lovely, updated open kitchen. They tore down walls, installed new cabinets, appliances, backsplash and an island. They also replaced the linoleum floor w/wood to match the rest of the space.

We chose Select from a list of Kitchen contractors on Angie's list. From the beginning of the process when we met with David, the kitchen/cabinet designer, Devin, the talented overall designer, Rick the owner who coordinated behind the scenes to the end of the project which was right on time if not a bit early, the process was smooth and professional. We met with David in his office several times to view and refine the cabinet design on the spot. No waiting for days or weeks for a revision. His suggestions were excellent and resulted in truly a custom look. Select operates on a well defined schedule; we were give dates by which they asked our various selections be made, allowing the project to move ahead as planned. Devin met with us to assist with choosing tile, lighting, colors etc. and his advice helped us pull it all together. Sameh, our carpenter arrived promptly each morning, worked hard and neatly and kept us updated on his progress and what would be happening next. Kent. the project manager was always available to answer questions or refer them to the appropriate individual. We are extremely pleased that we chose Select for the work.. So much so that we have asked them to renovate our master and two other bathrooms. . Their pricing was reasonable. Did they have the lowest price? No, but we got the excellence we paid for.
Description of Work: Kitchen renovation including cabinets design, counter top, carpentry (changing height of island) tile, lighting.

!Working with Select was a simple process, no pressure, lots of good input (from designers etc), and wonderful people. Everyday our main carpenter - Sameh - would arrive promptly at 8AM and work throughout the day. He was incredible, the quality of work and breadth of skill were amazing. He was polite, clean in his work habits, and very much aware of his presence in our home. I also loved working with the design crew: David and his son Devin. They were so patient with us as we attempted to decide on products finishes, fixtures, paint color, etc. Truly top rate. Working with Select owners Rick (proposal developer) and Kent (job overseer) was fantastic. These are just great great people. You will not regret your choice. There were some bumps along the road as there always will be. However, the company worked with us to make appropriate changes. For example, we noticed that the powder room sink had a nick in the finish. No problem, they came out to replace the sink with a new one within a week. Select stands by their work with a lifetime warranty of their workmanship. We enjoyed working with this company tremendously and so extremely pleased with the outcome.
Description of Work: We had Select K&B redo our kitchen, powder room, and flooring in entry foyer, hallway powder room, and kitchen. Full cabinet replacement, appliance installation, major electrical work (breakers added, pot lights, under-cabinet lighting), porcelain tile flooring in kitchen, plumbing (toilet installation, move supply lines, faucet installation, disposal etc), trim work (new baseboards/quarter round, crown molding), painting, and drywall repair.

Went very well. The team kept the work area closed off so the rest of the house remained dust free. Very neat & professional. Mike (who did the majority of the work) was amazing. Finished sooner than they originally estimated (took just over 2 weeks for entire redo). They ordered the wrong hardware for the cabinets, but as soon as we told them they got the right ones and installed them. IE- unlike other contractors we've used, they didn't try to convince us to keep the wrong ones!
Description of Work: Had our kitchen redone, including oven & dishwasher. Cabinets, counters, faucets replaced and a pantry built into an open corner.

Select Kitchen & Bath refused to do anything below a certain amount of money and I refused to work with them if it was based on the amount money. I spoke to Linda at Select and she asked me upfront what my budget was and I told her I was not sure and it would depend on their quote and I told her what I wanted to have done and she said she is not going to do a project for this and this only as it is not feasible for them. She said they cannot do the project if below USD 30,000 and has to be up to 40,000 and I didn't want to discuss any details as she was not willing to take it as a business proposal and see what I wanted to have done. I told her it is not going to work out and would not contact them again. The only thing that I know about them is that they contact me and they are only looking for big project so if your project does not involve a lot of money, you should not get in touch with them. She said they were not going to remove a wall and fix a window. She got in touch with me just to inform me about the money. These are not people looking for business. I have contacted many other contractors through Angie's list and they were the only people who told me about the money and this to me was just a bad business proposal. Their response was very prompt and fast. They were very professional. I have received a couple of emails sincerely asking about the details of what happened and how to fix this issue and based on our communication I received a confirmation that the staff answering the phone will be more sensitive with future customers calling about estimates and have no specified budget in mind like me. Appreciate your effort to resolve this review.

I was very impressed with Select Kitchen. They were very professional. I thought they were very good. They did a fantastic job of itemizing everything, detailing, working with me. Their designer was very good and very good with coming up with things and giving ideas. Their responsiveness were very good. I would consider to use them if I wanted too, but they only do kitchens and bathrooms.

This job went well at every phase. We did, however, allow plenty of lead time, putting together the design in late spring and early summer with an expected construction start date after Labor Day. The lead installer, John Marburger, did excellent work. The company had a policy of assigning one installer who handles practically everything except licensed trades, and basically shows up every day from job start to finish. Given that Select is a fairly large company, we weren't sure about the one-person-does-all plan. However, we were convinced. John knew everything about the job, what was done, and not done, and no coordination problems. (The other classic contractor issue--disappearing for days because of other obligations--did not occur either.) Like any major construction project a few problems arose, and were resolved amicably and reasonably. Our only issue involved the Silestone countertop, which we thought did not faithfully reproduce the sample we were shown, but was acceptable. We recommend that customers examine the samples carefully, perhaps even see an installed counter. Like others in this space, we were thoroughly satisfied with the work,, which was professional, began and finished on schedule.
Description of Work: Complete remodeling of the kitchen and dining room of our 1988 contemporary style home. The work was extensive, involving a new design, moving plumbing, electricity, and walls. The design was developed with the assistance of Select's regular consultant David Byrnside. Select was chosen from 3 contractors we worked with initially, in part because of good reviews here, and because of an excellent design working with David Byrnside. He had a nice mix of being open to our ideas while showing us what would and would not work. People planning a project of this type should be alert to the fact that different contractors have different plans for the costs of the design phase. Select was unusual in offering a preliminary design before signing the contract. We stopped working with one contractor that wanted payment for a complete design phase (including shopping assistance, cabinet selection etc.) even if we did not like the preliminary design. The 3d contractor wanted to be paid for design services whether we did the job or not--and that seemed reasonable. We asked for, and received, a few modest changes in the contract language.

Rick and Kent and Scott who did the actual did a very professional job. Any issues were quickly resolved. There was some damaged cabinetry issues which were quickly resolved by the architect/designer. Devin was very helpflu dealing with flooring, paint, and countertops. Scott kept us informed of his progress and where there were problems which needed our input he was quick to ask for resolution.
Description of Work: This was 2nd time we used Select and the experience was better because of their use of a design architect David who handled all of the fixtures and cabinetry for the kitchen and a small powder room. We were provided the opportunity to review numerous options in terms of grade of cabinetry which helped us in the decision making process. Rick and Kent from Select were very helpful again in dealing with issues concerning electrical and plumbing problems. They also were able to quickly react to minor changes like adding insulation to concrete walls that had none.

We were very disappointed with the lack of responsiveness. Someone came out to do measurements and provide an estimate on putting in a 3/4 bath in our basement. The measurements were done in June. After several promises to send out the estimate "this week" we didn't actually get the estimate until August 1 when we sent an email saying that we were going with someone else. We also felt that the estimate of $17,000 was a little high. UPDATE: One of the owners, Rick, did follow up with me after the review. He gave a sincere apology and explained that it was a very busy time and that the quote must have fallen between the cracks. He explained that corrective measures were taken to prevent another such occurrence. Rick asked if there was anything he could do for us to make up for the mistake. Due to my conversation with Rick I believe it was a rare occurrence and would consider doing business with Select Kitchen & Bath in the future.
Description of Work: an estimate for putting in a 3/4 bath in the basement. The plumbing was already roughed in, but the space was otherwise unfinished.

The whole team at Select Kitchen and Bath (SK&B) were a joy to work with. From the start (a good 6 months prior to when I could actually begin my project) to the finish (about 2 months after we started demolition when the city inspector signed off), the team was very helpful and professional. Overall the actual work took about 5 weeks (though we had a few minor items on the punch list that took an extra couple of weeks due to re-orders). SK&B did a fantastic job of answering my questions, providing me updates on the project and keeping my place as clean and as usable as possible while under construction. They use an independent kitchen designer (Dynamic Spaces) who did a fabulous job of assisting in the design; making use of every possible square foot of space in my tiny kitchen and in assisting me with material and color selection. The primary contractor on site was Scott Dillon. His attention to detail was above and beyond. Overall, I am very pleased with the support. SK&B worked with me every step of the way even through a requested change of the placement of my dishwasher that caused a need to re-order two of my cabinets and a re-order of one of the under cabinet lights. I will say that no matter how much you plan ahead, there will always be things that come up, but it’s the professionalism and the quality with which the contractor handles these issues that sets SK&B above the rest. Additionally, one of the major lessons I learned in this project is to double check all materials when they arrives (not when you are ready to install). There was an error with the back splash border tile, that while ultimately did not hold up the job, the fact that I didn’t realize that it was the wrong tile until a week before installation caused a little bit of last minute heroics on the part of the tile supplier to get us the correct tile in time for installation. The error was not the fault of SK&B and they along with the tile supplier worked it all out in the end. But, had I checked the tile as soon as it was delivered, we could have avoided this last minute rush.
Description of Work: This project consisted of a redesign and renovation of my kitchen. Demolition work consisted of the removal of existing cabinets, tile floor, a pantry closet, and a water heater closet. Existing appliances were relocated and set aside for re-installation. The new kitchen work included the installation of a new low-boy water heater that required realignment of electric, plumbing and mechanical utilities to accommodate the placement of the new water heater in a cabinet under the counter. New cabinets, countertop, recessed and LED under cabinet lighting floor tile and backsplash tile were installed.

Rick was the first to respond of 3 estimate requests emailed out at once. He called me 3 times just to reach me and let me know that his company was booked for awhile and would not be able to get to me as soon as I needed. It really has been wonderful so far. They’ve been very responsive to our needs. We had looked at them with someone who does their cabinets and the cabinets they had shown us we did not like. So then they took us up to a place and let us look at the factory where these other cabinets were been built and they were customized at the same price point as the other ones. They gave us a very thorough estimate. It followed everything that Angie’s List said to follow and we also looked down consumer reports as well. They have things that we’re paying and I don’t know and looking at it, it seems like what we’re paying was more. They’re installation summary is $25130.68. It can always be lower but I think it is fair. I thought the quality of the estimate was excellent. He really specified everything like what was include and excluded and the allowances. Before he even came out he talked to me at link to see what we were interested in. We had a lower estimate with others but because of their professionalism my husband wanted to go with Select Kitchen & Bath.

The project (both rooms) took about 6 weeks which was within a few days of their original estimate. Outside of a few small unplanned surprises outside of Select's control, everything went as planned. We even had an issue in the kitchen where Rick Kimmel (owner) insisted on going above and beyond in fixing. We, along with a design group Select works with, had chosen a backsplash tile that looked better in the store than it did once installed with everything else. In fact, it looked quite bad once installed. Even though we had a role in this poor choice, Rick insisted on covering the cost of removing the backsplash and installing the new tile himself - Select cares that much about a perfect finished product. Additionally, when you hire Select, you also get a great group of well cultivated business relationships that work with Select. The folks they choose to associate themselves with (designers, appliance companies, etc) are fantastic! We ended up selling the house 6 months after the remodel and their work resulted in our receiving more than 100% value from what we paid on the remodel. Additionally, we were incredibly sad to leave the house as we absolutely loved the work they had done and still miss that kitchen to this day (~12 months after moving out). If you want and honest contractor, excellent work, fantastic customer service and are willing to pay a few extra bucks (they are by no means the most expensive however), this is the company you want to hire!!!!!
Description of Work: We hired Select to remodel our kitchen and bathroom in our 1940's era Colonial House. They weren't the cheapest estimate we received, but they were certainly the most professional, courteous and seemingly qualified company we interviewed. Believing you have to pay for good quality, we hired them and we could not have been more pleased with the result.

It went great overall although there was a delay of a few days while waiting for the new tub surround tile.
Description of Work: Select completely remodeled our upstairs bathroom and it looks terrific. There was one glitch (not the fault of Select) in which the tile company delevered the wrong tile for the tub surround. We didn't realize the error until almost all of the tile had been applied. I called Ray, the project supervisor, and he was here within 45 minutes. He looked at the situation and said, "Don't worry, we will take care of it". He negotiated with the tile company who replaced the tile and Select removed the old tile and replaced it with the new - no small job and all at no cost to us. The Select workers were very careful to clean up during the work and at the end of each day each day and were most pleasant to work with.

We were extremely pleased with Select Kitchen and Bath from the initial consulation to the final punchlist items at the end of the project. They scheduled an initial visit at our house and carefully listened to all our ideas before drafting up a plan for our kitchen. David, one of their designers, provided a great a idea for a layout using his state of the art CAD program and provided changes to the design on the spot. He provided practical feedback keeping our design cost friendly and functional. Devin, another designer, provided careful guidance in our selection of granite, cabinets, tile and always was willing to provide his honest feedback regarding any selection. During construction of the kitchen, Select was very respectful of our house and maintained a very reasonable work schedule. We have a baby and they made the time period during the construction a piece of cake. They set up a temporary kitchen for us and provided a room divider to keep dust out of the main living area and also keeping our son out of all the construction. We worked with Mark who always consulted us with any design choices, worked incredibly efficiently and finished up the kitchen ahead of schedule. We will definitely recommend this company for anyone who is looking for a designer kitchen on a budget.
Description of Work: We used Select Kitchen to help design a new kitchen for us. We had a non-load bearing wall removed between the living room and the kitchen and extended the kitchen into an old dining area. Select Kitchen and Bath provided initial design services for the kitchen providing a layout, assistance in selecting tile, granite, cabinets, hardware, etc. and provided the labor to demo the old kitchen and dining area, install new plumbing, lighting, cabinets, backsplash and flooring.

This was a wonderful experience from start to finish. We had just finished the worst experience ever with a contractor on our master bath and Select Kitchen was the polar opposite. From the first meeting with Rick Kimmel and Diana Runyon, the project went incredibly smoothly. I initially wanted to move a heating vent as well as the wall so when I sat down with David and Devin Byrnside, the designers, that was how we designed the kitchen. Once Kent Kitchens came out and looked at what it would entail to move the vent and gave me the cost, we decided not to move it. I then sat down with David and Devin again and they patiently came up with an amazing design within my budget. They had never worked with slate counter suppliers before, but they managed the process expeditiously. Then Ray Collins the Project Manager and Hector the Lead installer arrived to start the project. Hector is multi talented and everything he does is top quality. Ray checked in frequently and was always available by phone. Every time a question or problem arose, it was dealt with immediately. The original estimate for the project was 8 - 10 weeks. Because the slate came in from Vermont earlier than expected, they finished in six weeks. The kitchen is everything I wanted and more. Visitors cannot believe how beautiful and workable it is. I highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: Complete kitchen remodel. Removed one wall, put in new window, new cabinets, new top of the line GE appliances and slate countertops. Replaced kitchen floor with wood and refinished all wood floors in living room, dining room and the new combined room.

i made the initial call on Tuesday 4/17, and got a return call from rick on 4/19. i understand that its not reasonable to come out to every location but he asked me a bunch of questions and provided an estimate without seeing the space or even seeing pictures. and because he asked me what my budget was upfront, i felt like he just gave me a higher estimate so that he would not have to do the work. he seemed knowledgeable and gave me some tips which was nice, but if he didnt want to do it, i felt like he could have been honest with me. it just felt like he was making excuses so that he wouldnt have to come out.

My biggest regret is not using these guys. I absolutely love the entire experience. So extremely professional and honest. Only reason I didn't select them is because of my budget. Hindsite is always 20/20. The extra money would have so been worth it. Short and sweet recommendation!!
Description of Work: This was full kitchen remodel. Gutting the kitchen and installing cabinets, floors, counter, moving walls, appliances, electrical stuff...Basically everything.

The process started with a VERY thorough telephone interview, followed by a thorough site visit. By the time we were done with these two steps I felt nothing was left to chance. The estimator made several suggestions that resulted in savings on the total cost. Since I was trying to get the bathroom remodel done as a surprise for me husband while he was travelling out of town, the estimator worked with the office manager to juggle schedules to get the work done during the tight time frame. The workmanship in every aspect - tile, plumbing, carpentry, drywall - was flawless. The installation team needed to cut a hole in the family room ceiling to install the tub plumbing fixtures and when they patched the drywall it looked like nothing had ever happened. All of the affected wall-to-wall carpeting were covered with plastic and they cleaned up completely behind themselves. Select Kitchen and Bath will be my first choice when it's time to remodel our master bathroom.
Description of Work: Replace old bathtub with new tub, tiled surround, faucet, showerhead, remove medicine chest and drywall hole, install new medicine chest on a different wall.

We chose Select Kitchen & Bath because of their excellent ratings in Angie's list. From start to finish they did a superb job. Rick and Diana came out to survey our old kitchen and to understand our desires for remodeling. They had some really good ideas to augment our thinking. We then visited David and Devin for the detailed design and specifications. David did a fantastic job helping us understand the cabinetry details and the various options, and then designing a solution. Then Devin did a great job helping us choose our flooring, back-splash and cabinet hardware. Devin had a really good feel for what colors and textures go well together, and we appreciated his recommendations. The critical path turned out to be the time it took to manufacture the cabinets - about 4 weeks. Kent was our project manager, and he did not want to start the project until he had a clear anticipated delivery date for the cabinets. Once the project started it took about four weeks to complete. Mark did the entire installation, and we were incredibly impressed with his work. He had great attention to detail and everything he did came out perfect. If we have more remodeling done, we would certainly choose Select Kitchen & Bath, and we would request that Mark perform the work. Mark did such a great job. The kitchen looks fantastic.
Description of Work: Remodel kitchen: replaced cabinets and flooring, replaced ceiling lights, added new back-splash and under-counter lighting, replaced sink and faucet, replaced shelving in pantry, painted the ceiling and walls. We kept our current refrigerator and dish washer.

I hired Select Kitchen and Bath to remodel my bath, they replaced the shower and the toilet. The drywall needed to be repaired that was done and they painted the walls. They were very punctual and professional. What I did like was the contract that they had was a big help to me. If problems came up I was able to go back to the contract, it included the cost of the work done, the materials and the type of work they were going to do. They were punctual on finishing the job and I was very pleased with the outcome of it. They are a top rated company and I will use them again.
