Background: We did get estimates from 3 or 4 places about remodeling our tiny master bath. We had estimates that ranged from ~$6K-15K. We wanted everything replaced, but we did not need top of the line, marble, etc. We wanted functional, easy to maintain yet nice. Russ (who is no longer with the company) helped us figure out exactly what we wanted in our remodeling needs. He didn't try to push us into anything we didn't need or want. He really listened to how we used the bathroom and what our desired result would be. I don't think I would have been as comfortable with this remodeling project and the results if it hadn't been for Russ. The actual remodeling was completed in August 2012. The demo guys were fantastic. They even hauled extra junk to the junkyard for me. They were punctual, clean, and friendly. They made sure that the rest of our house wasn't open to all the demo dust etc. The gentleman who did the actual remodeling was friendly, kept the place clean, and a hardworker. The work was done in a timely and efficient manner. Everyone was punctual, pleasant and made sure to keep dust in the appropriate places. We did have some grout and tile issues after a few months of use. We called Select and they came out and fixed the problems and told us how we can maintain the grout in the future due to normal wear and tear. I would absolutely use them again if i were doing a big bathroom remodel.

We selected this company based in large part on Angie's list reviews and we were not disappointed. We had our own decorator who worked closely with Diane at Select to develop a design for our master bath remodel (new floor, tiling, shower, countertops, mirrors and minor construction work). Diane offered specific alternatives in materials and design to hold down costs. Once we had agreed on the design, the owner came out to our home with a job supervisor to survey the job and to talk through with us exactly what they would do. Select began on site with a supervisor and a dedicated employee on the day promised. This company only uses its own employees and does NOT use subcontractors or others "picked up for the day," which is a huge plus. Mark, the employee who did the work, began his workday early and worked continuously throughout the day. He showed up on time every single day -- and did excellent work. In addition, a supervisor came by every few days to check on progress and to ensure we were happy with the work. The owner also came by again mid-project. We were very happy with the quality of the work, the supervision, and the fact that the work was done expeditiously to minimize the disruption to our schedule, home, and lives. Select finished on time and the end product is wonderful - better than we had expected. There were a few, minor "punch list" items after the work was complete, and Select came back within a few days of our contacting them to address those. Our decorator, who has worked with many, many remodeling companies was extremely impressed. She particularly noted Select's responsiveness in terms of returning her calls, working with her on changes to the initial design, being available for questions, etc., as well as the quality of the work. Overall, we were extremely satisfied with Select from beginning to end. They are easy to work with, trustworthy, timely, and do a terrific job. Both we and our decorator have already recommended Select to clients/friends looking to do remodeling.

WOW! Select Kitchen is great. From the very first encounter with Diana we felt Select Kitchen was first and foremost intent on giving us what WE wanted not what they could do. Diana worked with us to come up with the best materials to fit our budget and design. Then the project manager John came around to survey the job site and again discuss the design and OUR needs. The day the project began the on-site manager Alfredo was introduced again with the same attitude that this was our project and he was there to see it was done to our interests. Throughout the project both Alfredo and John explained any material or constructions issues which arose BEFORE they proceeded with the work. Our questions and comments were considered and incorporated. Throughout the entire project we felt our best interests were being given first consideration. Even when we may have nit picked Select Kitchen worked with us to meet our intent. They also gave us great recommendations as we went along which resulted in a better solution. Select Kitchen also allowed us to use our choice of materials rather than forcing us to us their preferred suppliers. Select Kitchen coordinated their work with our suppliers and delivered the project on-time and within budget. We are overjoyed with how everything turned out both stylistically and financially. 3/20/14 - Mishap related to dishwasher install and a few minor punch list items. Select Kitchen continues to be outstanding. They took ownership of dishwasher mishap, corrected problem and took care of floor repair. Punch list corrections were promptly fixed to our satisfaction. We still recommend Select Kitchen to anyone wanting a first class remodeling project.

Project went well in that: Select was responsive. Their design help and suppliers were good. Less good were: Select had some kind of management team turbulence during the last third of the project, so wrapping up the project took quite a bit longer than it should have. The primary project work was completed more or less on schedule. The workman, Oscar, did a nice job, especially minimizing the impact of the project on the rest of the house. Unfortunately neither Oscar nor the foreman nor we recognized that the floor of the house was not true in the bathroom area and we ended up with a slight slope away from the shower so water outside the shower runs away from shower. Livable, but an irritating subtext.

This bathroom is not one that we use so we had neglected it for many years. It was completely yellow -- many, many shades of yellow. It was a challenge to turn this 'toad' into a 'prince'! We dealt with three staff members: Derek was the designer. We had selected a photograph of a bathroom that had been done by Select and asked for a similar design. Derek was wonderful in guiding us through the specifics. It is beautiful. We choose a simple white subway tile for the bath but a wonderful leather looking tile for the floor. It is a small bathroom so all choices were critical! Alfredo was the worker! With only a little help with the heavy stuff from time to time, Alfredo did all the work! It's a really small bathroom so there isn't much space and as in all projects there are challenges. Alfredo did a great job addressing the challenges and working with us until we had our new bathroom John Marburger, the supervisor was amazing. He stopped by each day to confer with Alfredo and make sure he had the supplies he needed to do the job. He was also wonderful when later on we found a few problems that didn't surface right away as this is still a less frequently used room. He was an absolute gentleman, listened to the issues then took immediate action to fix!
Description of Work: Hall bathroom was completely stripped and rebuilt with new flooring, tub/shower, vanity, toilet. Heat vent which was located in soffit above the tub was moved to floor so soffit could be removed. Work was completed in less than two weeks.

They did a very good job for us. They were great. They were very, very helpful. Kent Kitchens was the person who came out and handled the project. They sent us to where we needed to go to pick out our tile and pick out our cabinets. They worked very well with us. They did a great job especially when they were dealing with the tile. They were taking out some older builder grade tile and replacing it so there was a lot of mess and dust in that project. They did a great job of keeping the house pretty clean. They kept the stuff covered with plastic. The outcome was very, very nice. We are very, very happy with it.
Description of Work: Select Kitchen & Bath redid some tile in our master bathroom. They also helped us install some cabinets in there.

We contacted Select in the summer of 2013. Diana was our point of contact and she came out to the house to take all the necessary measurements. We planned on completing a kitchen renovation and two bathroom renovations, but this review will only cover the Master bathroom. Diana was very kind and thorough. She gave us a detailed contract and was willing to let us purchase all of the supplies needed (with Selects guidance). Overall: We renovated our bathroom after renovating our kitchen, so the project did not start until late December 2013 and ended in about 3.5 weeks. Ira was our contractor and John was the project manager. We elected to renovate the bathroom after the kitchen because we wanted to continue with Ira as our contractor. Ira was always extremely professional, he had options for different situations that arose and was very thoughtful when in our home. Having contractors in our home can be a bother, but Ira and John were always polite of our needs and our space. Prep: All of our hardwood floors and stairs were protected with hard cardboard and painters tape. Our carpet was also covered with a self adhesive clear "tape". Ira swept up each day and kept a clean work space. We also staged an area in an opposing room with all the required materials (pre-purchased on our own). Project: Everything ran rather smoothly. We had a few issues, but they were swiftly dealt with and if it was Selects fault, it was covered by their company. Ira and John stayed in constant communication to go over large to small details. We discussed all the intricacies of tiling the tub surround and options for the wainscoting. My husband and I had made the majority of our decisions, but if we were not sure, Ira was always ready to lend his advice and thoughts. Ira and John were also flexible in waiting for some wallpaper to arrive, so that it would be easier to install next to the bull nose tile and underneath the chair rail. We were able to call them when the project was finished and then they finished caulking and installing the chair rail. It was much appreciated. Materials: Diana was able to tell me how many square feet of tile to purchase (floor, tub surround) and also how many pieces of bull nose and mosaic to buy. We didn't mind purchasing our own materials since we get discounts at the major home stores. It was also much easier for us to compare the prices between companies when we were looking for a company to hire. John was able to find some matching shelves for our tub surround, so always ask if you can't find something you are looking for. Conclusion: I wouldn't hesitate to work with Select in the future. They are a professional company that prides themselves in providing a product that the customer will truly love. Every company has a few faults, but any issues that arose were swiftly taken care of and typically benefited the homeowner. After our project was completed, we had an issue with a leak. I called both John and Ira to report the issue. (Water was dripping onto our dining room table.) Ira left his current job site and was on our property in 45 minutes to fix the problem. Luckily it wasn't a major issue and could be fixed through an access panel in our attic. I highlight this case because it shows that Select stands behind their product and workmanship 100%. After a few months, the leak from the master bathroom had caused a p***** in the ceiling. I contact John from Select and he sent out an installer to make the repair. Again, Select was quick to remedy the situation and this is why I would continue to recommend their company. The pictures show the workmanship that Ira possesses.
Description of Work: Renovated our Master Bathroom: change plumbing slightly, increase pipe size, fix damaged subfloor, tile (including custom niche), install wainscoting, chair rail, baseboard, diagonal tile floor, and install cabinet/toilet/fixtures. Our price did not include any materials. We purchased the cabinet/granite/faucet/accessories/tub/tile, ect.

From day one, Select was great to work with! We received great care and information from the sales rep all the way to the end of the project. They took out single sink, bathtub and platform, put in a new subfloor, completely rebuilt the shower stall, new cabinets and double vanity, mirror, plumbing, new beadboard, electricity and painting. We were able to make some decisions as we went, including ordering the tile, claw foot tub, all the hardware, lighting, specialty tile, and vanity top. The detail and precision of the workmanship is wonderful, and the overall positive work ethic and high standards of the company have been great. We will be looking to Select for a quote on the kitchen within the next 18 months.

The project went very well. We selected this contractor because Derek, who gave us the estimate, was very careful in his measurements and showed a really good attention to detail. Mark, who worked on the bathroom, showed the same carefulness and pride in his work. They showed up on time and finished the project early and within budget. Devin, who is the designer, was an enormous help, taking us to the tile warehouse, to the granite store and to the plumbing store to pick out the design elements for our new bathroom. We are very pleased with the way the project turned out, both in terms of aesthetics and workmanship. We would highly recommend this contractor.
Description of Work: Completely gutted our upstairs bathroom, helped design new bathroom and provided advice on tile, color, and fixtures, replaced the tub with a shower surrounded with glass, installed granite counter tops and new fixtures, tiled the floor and shower, removed a door and redid wall, installed new lighting, painted entire room.

We ended up not using them but they were our number one choice up until timing and a promotion drove us to another vendor. These guys are top notch with their material knowledge and have a great designer they work with that takes you through the process from start to finish. Next on our list is our bathrooms and Select will be the first vendor we call.

The issue was one of water leaking out from our basement bathroom. Moisture was wicking up the walls in the closet next to the bathroom and we had water on the floor of our furnace area a couple times. Another company had defined the problem as the shower pan having eroded (the bathroom dated from the early 60's) but was not interested in the work. From our first contact with Select, the communication was excellent. The sales rep was a former installer for the company (this is typical of Select, they seem to promote from within) so he was able to look at the space in the way someone who knew the work required could view it. He made the initial suggestion to bring out the wall to the outside of the duct work in the ceiling outside the bathroom, as the area under it was basically dead space. It would increase the functionality of a very small bathroom plus add sq ft to the closet. It would also increase the price as it became a redesign rather than simply fixing a problem. After due consideration - the bathroom is one that guests will use, including family - we decided to go with the redesign. That then led to additional visits by Select staff to make sure the redesign could meet code and would meet our requirements. The work was scheduled for the beginning of August and would take four weeks. This was a tight schedule as we were leaving on vacation right after Labor Day. We visited their subcontractors, Ferguson for the fixtures, Pro Source for tile and flooring, and another company whose name I cannot find for the cabinetry (which had to be custom made due to the space we had). The customer service was uniformly excellent. We found our preferences were listened to and expert assistance and advise provided (we ended up spending a couple thousand more total because of our choices - which were ours and not pushed on us by anyone). Select was able to move up the schedule by a couple weeks, which was much more convenient to our plans. The majority of the work was basically done by one worker, Ian, who was reliable and communicated well on all matters. Any time he had a question about the work, he came to us and showed us what we had found (there were more problems than the shower pan disintegrating) and asked our preference for resolution - some had a cost factor, some did not. This continued for the entire four weeks. Mold was treated or the area re-done. A large hole in a pipe was found and the pipe replaced. Etc. Basically all walls were replaced (another employee did the drywall and again made sure he talked to me about the finish, etc.) all the flooring, some of the framing, the plumbing, the electrical redone - and the space was transformed from a 1960s style basement bathroom to a modern bathroom with additional storage area in the closet. Select did their best to keep the dust down, putting up a plastic wall and running exhaust fans, but having interior work done does create some mess. A duster and some vacuuming, however, was all that was required in the area outside the work area. Select cleaned the area used for staging. Now for the one issue. Communication broke down between Select and the company (Dulles Glass and Mirror) creating our shower. Because of the size of the area and our preference for how the shower would fit, the shower needed to be custom made. The installation was done by Dulles and they worked very efficiently to do the installation. The only problem - the shower door opened right to left instead of left to right. So the towel rack was on the wrong wall, the cabinet door opened in the wrong direction (i.e.. could be blocked if the shower door were open at the same time). In addition, if the person using the shower pointed the showerhead at the one wall, as one does to keep from getting hit by cold water, it ran down the wall, through a space at the bottom near the door and onto the bathroom floor creating a real slipping hazard. The shower walls and door were the single most expensive items of the installation - a frameless glass door, etc. About $2600 of the cost. The only resolution to the installation was to re-do the production of the entire shower which would not have cost us anything, but would have extended the completion time needed for weeks. A representative of Select came and viewed the problem and there was no argument as to the issue. We (my wife and I) made the decision that we would not ask them to re-do the shower if some resolution that would work for the functionality of the bathroom could be found. The simple answer was for Select to provide another towel rack on the opposite wall (there was space) and have Dulles come back and fix the leaking problem. That was done in short order with follow-up to make sure we were satisfied with the result. The bathroom still has all the functionality we were hoping to gain by its resizing and redesign and the additional closet space has already proved to be useful. Select was wonderful to work with, equal to any positive experience we have had with a contractor (we have done quite a bit to our house over the last 26 years). We have plans to have our main bathroom redone within the next year and Select will be the only contractor we call.
Description of Work: Replaced all walls, doors and fixtures in a bathroom off the rec room in our basement. Also replaced the walls of a closet next to the bathroom. Select took care of all permits and the work required design work, including increasing the space of both the bathroom and the closet by bringing out the wall 18 inches where a duct ran through the outer room.

We hired Select Kitchen and Bath to remodel the kitchen in our 31 year old home, doubling its size by expanding into the former dining room. This was an extensive project that included the following: - design of kitchen layout and assistance with aesthetic details - sourcing of cabinetry, countertops, tile, and basic construction materials - relocation of HVAC ductwork and registers - relocation of plumbing, including gas line - design of lighting and electrical requirements - relocation and addition of lighting and electrical circuits - installation of fill-in oak flooring, and refinishing the entire first floor - installation of a new kitchen window and door, and related siding repair - construction of a small porch and steps outside the new door - installation and finishing of all components including cabinetry, appliances, backsplash, drywall and trim - installation of crown molding in new dining room (old living room) - painting of kitchen and dining room Select?s design partner, Dynamic Spaces, provided excellent advice and worked closely with us to design a space that is both functional and attractive. Dynamic Spaces spec?d out and ordered our cabinets from a custom shop in Pennsylvania. When some operational problems surfaced, Select and Dynamic Spaces immediately contacted the manufacturer and had modifications made to resolve the issues. Unlike some contractors, Select did not object to our purchasing some components independent of their sources. The job cost cited above does not include sinks, faucets, some lighting and electrical supplies, or the island countertop. We also purchased our appliances outside the contract with Select, but did use the retailer they recommended. Prices were competitive and they stored the appliances at their warehouse until Select was ready to install. Select identified and managed subcontractors for fabrication and installation of stone countertops, manufacture and installation of new window and door, hardwood floor refinishing, and electrical and plumbing tasks requiring licensed tradesmen. All other construction and installation work was performed by Select?s own employees. Their workmanship is outstanding ? everything is level, plumb, and nicely finished. They scheduled their daily start time around our schedule and were here every day as expected, without fail. Select took appropriate measures to protect the rest of our home from construction dirt and dust, and they removed trash and debris on a regular basis. They obtained required permits and ensured compliance with appropriate building codes. I cannot overstate the professionalism and service provided by everyone associated with Select Kitchen and Bath. From my initial call, through all phases of planning and execution, to the punch list and final invoice, our experience was entirely positive. The inevitable minor issues and delays were resolved promptly and to our satisfaction. This was a large project and not inexpensive. We are extremely pleased with the process and the result - Select Kitchen and Bath delivered an outstanding product and excellent value. We would not hesitate to hire them again.
Description of Work: Renovation and expansion of kitchen and dining room in the Franconia area of Fairfax County. Planning and design took place from February through May 2013. This was an complex remodel because the old half bath had been added after the basement floor had been laid and whoever did it simply put in a raised false floor and put the sewer line over the concrete floor. In addition to having to break through the concrete floor and reroute the sewer line, the room contained the only access to the crawl space and to the master water shut off valve. So, those had to be covered as unobtrusively as possible. I received proposals from Select and two other highly rated re-modelers. The price estimates were all close but I picked Select because their proposal most clearly stated how they would handle the peculiar aspects of the room. Select did a great job and I couldn't be happier.

I'd love to give this company and A, but the end part of the job was unsatisfactory. Russ was very professional as the main contact for the estimate. I tried to keep my costs down by purchasing many items myself and by doing some of the work, like wallpaper stripping and painting on my own. I don't know if this caused hard feelings with the company, but I felt that it did.. I had a contractor named Jamie do the installation work, and things went well at first. He seemed to care about the project and was very creative in solving some of the problems he encountered. However, near the end of the job he seemed to give up. He did not spend as much time working on the project and even took half days off. He left the job completely dirty. I could not use my new tub as he never removed the caulking and grout from the surfaces. It took me many days to clean up after him. There was grout on my sink faucet and other areas as well. Also, Jamie dumped materials in my landscaped garden and made a mess of my yard and garage area where I let him store his materials. When I finally got through to the owner, Mr. Kitchen, he told me I should not have had to do the cleaning. I was not able to use the bathroom as it was left and no one came to see if the work was finished to my satisfaction, so what was I to do? I got another worker to come in and finish the cleaning of my yard and garage. I did receive apologies, but I think I should have gotten some money back for all the cleaning up that they didn't do. I like my new bathroom, the price was on the high side, but I was satisfied with the finished project at the end. If you use this company, please do not let them send Jamie to your home. UPDATE: 9.18.13 I have since been contacted by this company and need to add some information. The name of the contractor should have been spelled Jamie. He no longer works with the company, but they do have someone named Jaime now who is not the person who worked with me. Also, the company sent someone to finish the clean-up of the project after I spoke to Mr. Kitchen. Lastly, due to the quality of the first job they did for me, I am scheduled to have this company look at another remodeling job I am interested in doing.

The project went very well. I made initial contact in October 2011 and Rick set up a date a couple of weeks later to come out with David, the kitchen designer. I was very impressed that they sent me a questionnaire to complete before our appointment. Of all the reading I did beforehand on how to approach a kitchen remodel this is the one thing that was mentioned numerous times. Of the 3 estimates I had, SK was the only one to do this. Their price was equal to the other 2 estimates. When Rick and David came out they were a real team. Rick started taking photos and measuring while David and I reviewed the questionnaire. My initial plan was replace everything in my kitchen and to stick with the existing kitchen layout with the exception of redoing the island. With David's keen eye for design, he suggested I move my fridge to another wall and move my cooktop off the island and center it on the counter against a wall and that would really open up the room. All I can say is that was the best design idea and I'm so thankful I listened to him. It made the biggest difference. Rick also did some excellent problem solving with one of the issues I had with moving my fridge. David and his son Devin, an interior designer, helped me through the selection process with cabinets, knobs, granite countertops, backsplash tiles and design, mudroom tiles, paint color, etc... They took a lot of the pain of decision making out of the process. The project stated in February when I requested. It went very smoothly with Scott as the lead carpenter. It took about 7-8 weeks to complete most of the work and I was back in my kitchen. Scott worked very closely with me especially on the design and dimensions of the mudroom lockers. They came out perfectly. The project completion was delayed but didn't prevent me from using my new beautiful kitchen. They mis measured one cabinet over the cooktop so I had to wait for the other cabinet to be made. I got to keep the original cabinet and installed it in my garage for extra storage so it really worked out in my favor. Another hold up was a damaged hood fan which wasn't SK's fault. The manufacturer replaced it but waiting for that to arrive also delayed the completion. I would use SK again in the future when I do a bathroom remodel.
Description of Work: They gutted my kitchen completely and redesigned the layout as well as redesigned my mudroom attached to the kitchen. They replaced all appliances, cabinets and countertops lighting fixtures and added new lighting in the kitchen. The ripped up all the vinyl flooring throughout the kitchen and mudroom and replaced it with hardwood in the kitchen to match the existing hardwood in the connected family room and put down tile in the mudroom. They built open lockers in my mudroom after taking out an old utility sink and cabinets.

We chose SKB after getting numerous estimates. They were not the cheapest, but we were impressed that they understood the scope of the work better than most. At the beginning, there was some doubt as to whether the wall to be removed was load bearing. Several bidders proposed doing the job without shoring up the beam over the wall, and, of course, their bids were lower. We now realize we would have discovered the need for more structural support in the middle of the job, and that would have made their price comparable to SKB. One competitor, when they realized the scope of the job, dropped out of the bidding process. We also chose SKB because they had universally positive feedback on Angie's List for people who engaged them in a project. SKB benefits from the fact that their project managers (and the owners) are experienced home builders. If the job involves structure, SKB is an excellent choice. Design. SKB made some valuable and important suggestions during the design process that added to the success of project. They were accommodating to our schedules, meeting when we were both relaxed on a Saturday morning. For a big job like this, you don't want to be making decisions after a long commute home. Project Management. They began earlier than they originally planned. After some minor delays (due to a demanding county inspector), they finished a bit later than they expected (July 19 vice July 5), but we had planned for some slippage. Most importantly, they were not thrown by some of the many surprises they discovered once the walls were opened up. John, the project manager, kept us updated several times a week. He anticipated some problems, and some challenges brought in the entire expertise of the company. Quality of Work. Simply amazing. Joe was the the project lead, and he worked essentially every day. He did it all: plumbing, electrical, floor installation, cabinet landing, lighting, skylights, drywall & mudwork, etc. He is a singular craftsman. Everything fit, the finish was flawless, and we're discovering new aspects of his attention to detail even weeks after we moved in. Cost. We knew this would be a big investment, so we wanted a fair price and a good attention to cost control. We were happy that the work provided was worth what we paid. Every time we asked for some additional work they gave us a price for the change order. It's a testament to the value they provide that we found the price to be reasonable and asked for them to do the work. The final product is an amazing kitchen. We were going for a "wow" factor, and we get that with everybody who comes to visit. I don't see a place to put pictures into Angie's List, but you would be pretty amazed at this outcome.
Description of Work: Complete kitchen rebuild, removing a load-bearing wall to combine with dining room. Insert a support beam, relay floors, widen door, install three skylights, new cabinets and granite counter-tops, move plumbing, ventilation, electrical, phone. New lighting throughout. For us, this was the largest remodeling project we have ever undertaken. It's a long-overdue rework of our kitchen and dining space in the 50-year-old house we've lived in for over 30 years. We worked with SKB throughout from start to finish, including design, layout, material choices, and color selection.

They were fantastic actually. They were honest and they gave an accurate account of what my cabinets would look like if I refaced or if I didn't. They were honest in that I should not reface them because they were very good quality cabinets. They were honest. Instead of taking my money they said I wouldn't touch these. That was the owner actually.

It turned out Select was not a good fit for the work we wanted. I asked for a recommendation for another contract service, but he declined, saying he felt uneasy about recommending anyone whose work he had not previously had multiple experiences with. I found this honest answer professional and responsible. Select will definitely go on our list of companies to call for estimates on future remodeling.
Description of Work: The owner of Select called back within 48 hours and was very kind. We discussed the scope of work my husband and I hoped to have done.

I called Diana on July 2nd to set up a time to get an estimate. She advised that they were not available until after July 10th and would call me when they were available. No problem. When I didnt hear from them by July 15th, I contacted them again via email and never heard back from them . Too bad, they lost out on a $50,000 job.
Description of Work: Nothing...couldnt even get an estimate out of them.

Job went amazing well. the design team helped me confirm my choices/options. I signed contract in mid march expecting a delay for back ordered cambria countertop - but countertop was onsite before Easter. Long pole in the tent became the custom cabinets. Job started 1 week early - early may and it took 4 weeks. there were only minor touch-ups needed. I spent more time looking at cabinets or picking a contractor then they spent remodeling the kitchen.
Description of Work: A complete kitchen gut and remodel, floor to ceiling - excluding major appliances. I selected: custom cabinets - 15 inches deep, custom pillow design, included toe kick drawers in 2 cabinets added between kitchen & dining room received bookshelf that was initially for kitchen, but moved into dining room replaced box florescent light with 4 puck lights in main kitchen area and 2 smaller rotating lights in window extension area. installed cambria parys countertop -first item I fell in love with installed glass tile backsplash and brushed nickel edging grohe faucet - love it... installed advantium above stove microwave - multi-function - broil, convection, microwave.... amazing installed grooved interlocking vinyl tile floor painted the ceiling and walls and they added electric sockets and replaced all receptacles

The workmanship and work quality were top-notch. Mark Dobbin, the lead installer, arrived promptly every day and came early enough to confer with the homeowner(s) about the plans for the day and any decisions we needed to make to keep the job on track. In terms of advance planning, this job did not go as smoothly as our previous experience with Select, which was a major kitchen/dining room remodeling. We were sometimes uncertain what we needed to do and when (selecting fixtures, tile, etc.), and there were delays in responding to some of our questions. We got the impression that Select's management resources may be a bit stretched, resulting in less-than-perfect communication. Overall, however, the final result was excellent.
Description of Work: Completely remodeled a large master bath with all new fixtures.

I wanted a total renovation of my 15 year-old townhouse kitchen/family room space to turn it into one big fun area. I chose Select because of their high rating on Angie's List. I understood that they might be a bit more expensive, but wanted the new room to be my showplace, as I love to cook. I also had long-researched ideas about what I wanted done and wanted to be able to turn the project over to a contractor I could trust to just do it without looking over shoulders and worrying. I first met with Rick, one of the owners of Select, and David from Dynamic Spaces (the cabinet and counter guy) to discuss the project. Rick laid out up front in detail how the project would proceed, how much it might cost, how the cost might change due to unforeseen problems and my own materials choices, how long it would probably take and when it would start ? about two months down the road. David listened and took notes. Soon after that, I received an initial cost estimate from Rick, which changed as the project proceeded and choices were made. I was always kept up to date on costs and never surprised. I next met with David and his son Devin to plan the cabinets, counter space and floor. David designed the space with the use of a sophisticated computer program and when we agreed on what needed to be done, Devin led me through the process of choosing the cabinets, countertop, backsplash and flooring, including a trip to a tile and flooring place for color and other choices. Select recommended an appliance distributor they often worked with that I visited to choose my appliances. It was all seamless and quick and soon I had made all of my choices, I knew about how much it all would cost, and the project was ready to go. At 8:00 a.m. on the morning originally scheduled, Select showed up as planned, ready to go. I met Kent Kitchens, one of Select's owners ? yes, that really is his name ? who supervises Select's construction. But I also met The Man ? Scott. With the exception of a few times when he needed assistance with heavy loads or a few other things (thanks, Andrew) and counter installation, Scott remarkably performed all of the renovation tasks ? tearing down and removing the old kitchen, wiring, lighting, installing cabinets, installing the floor, installing the appliances, artistically creating the backsplash design, installing a new exterior door and painting. He was amazing. His work is amazing. The room was completed on time. I am in love with it. Outside of the outstanding quality of Select's craftsmanship in my home, what I found most significant about Select's work on this project was their candor and their (Scott's) work ethic. In my first meeting with Select, I was told how things would go and they proceeded as laid out. I trusted them. If unexpected problems arose, which were few, I was told immediately, any increased costs were worked out and things were resolved. If I had a concern, I would discuss it with Scott or Kent and we moved forward. One example stands out. Perhaps the single most important thing to me in the renovation was the creation of an arch in an existing kitchen wall which would allow for sunlight to permeate the entire floor of the townhouse in the morning and late afternoon (east/west exposure). Early on in the project, it appeared that existing plumbing would impact the design or even perhaps the existence of the arch. After discussing the possible problem with me, Select immediately called in a plumber to design a workaround, which was accomplished over long hours on Christmas eve without prohibitive cost. The arch is to me the highlight of my kitchen. As for Scott, he showed up early every morning on time and left either on time or late if something needed to be finished. He sometimes worked on weekends if that met with my schedule and approval. If he was not going to be coming either on time or at all on some days ? my work was performed around the end-of-year holidays ? he would let me know well in advance. When he was in my house, he was working. A full day. Every day. My kitchen had his full attention. What you may have heard before about the pain of dealing with contractors does not apply to Select. They are honest, courteous, professional, and talented. To sum it up, I heartily recommend Select for their kitchen renovation talents. And ask for Scott.
Description of Work: Complete kitchen renovation.

Called on a Monday, today is a Thursday and still no call back. Responsiveness - F. I know you guys are busy but if you guys don't bother to call me back, well, then on to the next contractor willing to give me an estimate. Overall grade was "C" b/c the agent answering the phone was pleasant, otherwise all I have to go off of is the responsiveness of the company and that's an "F." UPDATE: My initial review of the company was an "F" based solely on "responsiveness" but I have to say I've changed my stance a bit. Rick, owner of Select Kitchen and Bath called and apologized for the delay in getting back to me. They are extremely busy and I felt he was being sincere about fixing the issue so this sort of thing doesn't happen with other potential customers. For other customers of Angies list, take my review for what it is, I may be the outlier since they do receive very good remarks but I don't want to play down the fact that this did happen to me. I appreciated the follow up by Rick.
Description of Work: Called to schedule an appointment for a bathroom remodel. Agent that answered the phone was nice and I briefly described to her what I wanted. She said that this could be accomplished. She said she would pass along my info to someone else, I think estimator, and they would call me to set up a time. She mentioned to me that if I decided to go with them, that it wouldn't be until late August or September to get the job down. I informed her I wasn't in a rush.
