Select Kitchen & Bath

When we were ready to remodel our Master Bathroom this year, we obtained estimates from several contractors. Select had done an excellent job with our Hall Bathroom a few years ago, and their quote came in pretty much in line with the others, so we decided to go with them again. They weren’t able to start the job as soon as we wanted, and they finished a little later than scheduled, but our costs came in as expected, and the end result was excellent. The new bathroom was truly beautiful and everything that we wanted. Select was very responsive to our needs throughout the process, and we recommend them highly.

Workers were very good. We ran into problems with plumbing that were never fixed to our satisfaction

The staff members at Select Kitchen and Bath are true professionals and unfailingly courteous. More important, they did a great job! Although it sounds like a small job, it was a constant challenge. The workers at Select Kitchen had to install drywall around or behind numerous pipes and try to make the tiny bathroom look as normal as possible. Often, there was little space to do so. Sometimes, it required trying new approaches, but the staff at Select Kitchen were inventive and solution-oriented. Today, my laundry room and bathroom in the basement look better than they ever have. Select Kitchen didn't give up and kept trying to get the best look possible. I would recommend them highly for any kitchen or bathroom job and would not hesitate to hire them again myself. . -

In 2013, we contracted with Select Kitchen and Bath, to remodel our Kitchen. After that was done, we had Select Kitchen and Bath remodel our bathrooms. We were pleased with their work. The folks at Select Kitchen and Bath also told us that if we had any problems with their work in the future that we could call them and that they would fix it at no charge. So about a month ago (August 2015), we discovered a problem with a kitchen outlet that they installed and also a bathroom light switch. Nothing major, but something that was not installed quite right. We called Rick Kimmel and he sent one of his technicians to our house in few days and everything was repaired at no charge and without hesitation. My point here is that it is very difficult to find a vendor these days that will stand behind their work and obviously, Select Kitchen and Bath does. With many vendors, 2 years after install, you would be lucky to get a return phone. Thus, Select Kitchen and Bath, gets another A, from my wife and me.

If I knew then what I know now? And how did it go? Well, I knew that Select K&B had done a wonderful, meticulous, financially reasonable remodel of our master bath in 2013. I knew that pricing was fair, workmanship was excellent and consistent, and materials were certainly high class. I knew that these were real people who were putting their reputation and professional well-being on the line, and that they would hold and carry a strong work ethic to bring us a great product, on budget, on time. So when we began to explore kitchen renovation, Select K&B was on our short list of contractors to do the work. Over the course of several months, we went through several bids and levels of remodel, compared these bids to other companies, and decided to sign with Select K&B once again. The sales office (Derek, et al) took great efforts to understand our wishes and dreams, and began in earnest to match products and services to meet and exceed our plans. When the first bid came back too expensive, Derek simply began again, scaling back to bare bones and then building back various options one-by-one, to allow us to prioritize our use of dollars to create our new kitchen. The design team (David/Devin) helped us create cabinetry, flooring, lighting, etc., that was in keeping with the arts and crafts ?look? we were anticipating. The result is stunning: I believe the work has added almost a dollar-for-dollar value to the house. Scheduling was very reasonable for the scope of work to begin. One of the best things Select does is assign a primary workman to the site, who is working every day, all day, and is in daily contact with the supervisor of the project. Jaime was a great craftsman, very knowledgeable and patient with our questions and concerns, and Rick was a great supervisor in keeping our project on time and on budget, communicating with us and with Jaime on a daily basis to keep the train on the tracks. Challenges were approached fairly and calmly (like correcting the electrical wiring system in the kitchen that had been incorrect since the house was built in 1988 ? and which was thoroughly discussed with us as we worked together to take care of the unexpected bump). Over the course of several months, we ended up with a brand new kitchen, new flooring on the main-level floor, stairway and upstairs hallway, new paint throughout, and the sanity factor was maintained throughout! It goes without saying that daily work was always cleaned up well, we were alerted to any changes in schedule ahead of time (the only workday missed was due to heavy snowfall), and the job coordinator was at the house at least twice a week for face-to-face with Jaime and with us. What do I know now? You can find ethical, honest contractors who care about projects as much as homeowners do. Select K&B is certainly in the bulls-eye on this, and we will contact them again soon to work on a basement project that has been on the back-burner for quite some time.

Select Kitchen & Bath conducted an on-site visit in my Alexandria home, built in 1930, and after considering my input provided draft plans for the remodel. After discussion, the plans were revised and finalized, and I was then sent to the design team to consider alternatives and selection of cabinetry, floor and wall coverings, countertops, fixtures, etc. The design team was fabulous and made it much easier for me to make the selections by listening to my likes and dislikes, and then narrowing the scope of what could have been a very time-consuming search. Select was able to start the project earlier than first estimated, which I had wanted, and they started the demolition on time. The demo was done quickly and as neatly as possible, with as little disruption to the rest of my home as humanly possible. Upon discovering additional work that needed to be done due to the age of my home, Select promptly informed me of the nature and cost of that work, as well as the pros and cons of whether it should be done (I had the additional work done). Nearly all of the materials and appliances arrived on time, and Select installed everything on schedule and in a highly professional manner. The Select employee primarily responsible for the remodel work also added some additional touches, such as staining an existing spice cabinet that I was retaining so that it matched the new cherry cabinets, that were greatly appreciated and enhanced the end result. There were a few minor delays due to a couple of wrong parts being delivered and needing to replace the delivered refrigerator, which had a couple of dents on the exterior, but they did not cause a problem and Select consistently kept me informed and promptly handled any issues that arose. Excellent quality work. Work performed on time and within the original budget estimate. One staff member was assigned to manage entire project and assured the quality and timeliness of the work. Design studio was very helpful in selecting cabinets, counter tops and paint colors for walls. Installer was excellent.

The initial planning stage with Diana was very thorough. She gave us good practical suggestions for our kitchen. Hector worked diligently, precisely, and professionally. He was the main person on the job and performed most of the work himself, leaving the work area clean each evening. Rick oversaw all the work and coordinated aesthetics with us. Mario was very exact in painting the drywall. The company was very flexible in allowing us to purchase our appliances and accessories from vendors of our choice. All the employees were professional, trustworthy, and took pride in their work. They completed their work within their estimated time frame and cost. We were very comfortable having them in our home for six weeks. We are very pleased with our kitchen and highly recommend Select Kitchen and Bath.

Everything went extremely well. We were very pleased with Diana Runyon, the sales and design representative. She talked to us at length about what we wanted done, and she also made numerous helpful suggestions. The work was done mostly by Select's own staff. The owner, Rick Kimmel, maintained close oversight of the work and close communication with us throughout the project. He also made useful recommendations. Diana and Rick's suggestions were especially valuable regarding the cabinet vendor, sink location, lighting fixtures, and the numbers and placement of drawers and cabinets. All the Select staff were extremely courteous and friendly, including Alfredo, who carried out most of the work. Rick was very careful to make sure we knew what the total cost was likely to be and to explain and justify any supplemental work needs they encountered. The project was completed in only four weeks, which was also the timetable they had told us they hoped to meet before the work began. The materials were just what we wanted and the work was carried out with high quality and attention to detail. Finally, we were very satisfied with the way Select worked closely with us to ensure that the project was consistent with our functional and design objectives, while fleshing out and enhancing those objectives with their own knowledge and experience.

We're very happy with our new kitchen and with the service we received from everyone at Select. Their contract and pricing was very transparent and specific and they were great about giving frequent pricing updates whenever we made changes. And the work was done beautifully as well. Diana, Rick and Joe were a pleasure to work with and the whole thing went as smoothly as it possibly could have. We have a master bath that needs remodeling and if we ever get around to it we will definitely be hiring Select again.

I had gotten quotes from about 8 different contractors while deciding who I wanted to go with on my project. Select was one of the pricier ones, but I was very impressed with how thorough they were when they came to get measurements, and after my last renovation I knew I needed to hire a contractor that is very detail oriented. Between the initial quote to right before ordering the cabinets, they must have measured my house a dozen times to make sure everything was accurate. They did a great job with the new kitchen and bath. There were some hiccups along the way as there often are in renovations. One night a newly relocated radiator started shooting water across the room, but I called Select and they sent the plumber out immediately to fix it, at about 10 PM. Speaking of their plumbers, I was so impressed with their work ethic. Those guys were at my house before I left for work in the morning and when I got home from work asked if they could stay late so they could get the work done sooner than scheduled. I had been accustomed to contractors who were done with the day by 3:00PM, these guys were nothing like that! The workmanship was great, everything came out just beautifully. The main guy who was there daily was great at the wood work and actually had some really good ideas that I ended up incorporating in the design. Overall I am very satisfied!

There was nothing really wrong but I just chose to use someone else for the actual job. I was very pleased with their estimates. I ended up not taking them because I wanted the bathroom done too and they only do kitchens.

We had a fantastic overall experience with Select Kitchen & Bath. Of the several bids we received for our kitchen remodel, Select was in the upper half of bids in terms of cost -- but the personal service, creativity and quality of work they provided easily made this slightly higher cost worth it. The degree of professionalism and courtesy exhibited by their employees from the first visit to size up the space, through the daily work and adjustments, through the important cabinet, countertop and color choices, to the very end to deal with final nuances, was exceptional in our opinion. Select employees were almost always available to troubleshoot issues that inevitably popped up during the remodeling process and they did so with a smile and good ideas. They stuck to their word in terms of costs, even when estimates were produced on the fly as adjustments were requested. Most importantly, the final product was outstanding, and we've greatly enjoyed our new kitchen in the past year since the primary work was completed. We would definitely use Select again and would highly recommend their services!

Things started off very well with Kitchen Select and Bath and some of the work was well done, but unfortunately the majority of the work was sub-standard and took months to correct. The tile backsplash in the kitchen was completed in roughly a week and the craftsmanship was excellent. Unfortunately, for the bathroom, they sent us a very inexperienced craftsman to do the job and the results were very disappointing (uneven tiles and an overall sloppy look). A new craftsman was brought in, but it ultimately took them roughly six months and 7 visits, including by the owner, to make things right. To their credit, they did fix the tile work, albeit not without a lot of prodding and complaining. Still disappointing, we were charged $600 to paint the bathroom, which seemed excessive given the size, but less than a year later the paint is peeling and dripping (see picture).

We had an idea of what we wanted done, and we were hoping they would give us more ideas. We got quotes from other companies as well, and they were all along the same line. The quote was pretty detailed.

Our experience with Select Kitchen and Bath was fabulous from beginning to end. It started with Derek who came to survey the work we wanted done and did an excellent job explaining the project as we were remodel first-timers. He had helpful hints that saved us wear and tear. We were fortunate in that we could move out of our master bedroom and leave that to them for a staging area but that was a result of Derek's suggestion. The design they came up with incorporated all our suggestions. Another great staff member was Devin who guided me through the tile, cabinet and fixture choices. That was a great day! While I had wandered tile stores before, having an expert like Devin made the selection process a breeze. The project took about 6 weeks but we did have major snow storms during the project that cost us a couple of days. The work was primarily done by Scott working with John, the project manager. Scott was punctual every day, never left any kind of mess and was a pleasure to interact with. I liked him so much, I made him an Irish soda bread for St. Patrick's day. The caliber of his work was outstanding. Each day when I walk in our new bathroom I continue to smile. John made sure all the i's were dotted and the t's crossed. Did I mention the great job they did putting down a path from my front door up to the bathroom with plastic and cardboard. That was a lifesaver with the messy weather we had last winter. I was so pleased with the tile floors I decided to have them installed in our powder room and guest bath. The work was done again in a timely and proficient manner. I cannot thank Select Kitchen and Bath enough for the wonderful job they did in our home. I highly recommend this company for any remodeling project you want to undertake.

Select Kitchen and Bath began the work on schedule and finished on schedule. Additionally, they worked me into their schedule so as to complete the job before Christmas. They began work around mid November and finished Dec. 22, 2013 (notwithstanding a few minor items left for the punch list) The individual, Henry, who did 98% of the work on my kitchen, was an excellent worker. He was very skilled, paid close attention to detail and was extremely neat. Renovations can be messy no matter how you look at it, but I was always amazed at how neat and organized Henry was while getting his work done. Ray, Henry's supervisor, was very professional and responded to my inquiries in a manner that reassured me. And I admit to having been overly worried at times throughout the renovation project. I also enjoyed working with Diana during the initial planning stages of the renovation. She did a very good job of informing me about the services offered by Select Kitchen and Bath and kept the ball rolling throughout the planning process. She also offered reassuring advice from time to time which reflected her knowledge of the renovation process. The selection of cabinetry/countertops/ fixtures is handled through designers associated with Select Kitchen & Bath. In my case, I worked with David B.to design my beautiful new kitchen. He is knowledgeable and professional to work with; he wants his customers to be happy with their overall kitchen design and specific choices. I found that any issues that arose were addressed properly and dealt with to my satisfaction. This was very important to me. I would definitely recommend Select Kitchen & Bath and would hire them again.

I'm very happy with them. The quality of workmanship. The quality was fantastic. He was their every day and he was punctual and clean. He cleaned after himself. They were very to deal with. They listened because I was very specific from the very beginning and they listened. I was specific like I told them not to go to Home Depot and look for things. Select has their own designers. They designed the whole kitchen lay out they did the whole thing. That's what I paid for and that is what I was willing to pay for because I did not want to do the kitchen design. They listens and that was very important. The price fell right were I though it would be to begin with. They went the extra mile. The quality of workmanship and they were punctual. They really know their stuff. I would recommend them to people and I would have no problems hiring them again.

Both projects went very well. The master bath was expanded from a half to full bath, so a bedroom closet was transferred to the bath and a new closet added in that bedroom. The kitchen was gutted to the walls and floor, electrical and air were reworked. Both jobs were done in a professional manner and completed on time. The staff were extremely helpful, providing much good advice through the entire experience. During the work, protection was put down for our hard wood floors and plastic placed to keep as much dust from the rest of the house as possible. The crew arrived every day and cleaned up every day. Construction is never fun, but this experience was the best we have ever had. We have been enjoying our remodeled areas greatly and when there has been a minor issue arise, the company returned quickly and solved the problem. We would hire Select Kitchen and Bath again for any remodel we need.

*Select did exactly what we had in mind. The remodeled powder room is beautiful. We recommend Select without hesitation. They charged us about $5,100.00 for labor and construction materials. We chose and supplied the new floor tile, sink, toilet, cabinet and fixtures that they installed. *Details: Derek Baxter visited us twice to prepare a proposal. His proposal was competitively priced, and it was far more detailed than competing proposals that we received. Details of look and function, fit and finish, are important to us. Derek spent as much time with us as he needed to understand what we wanted. We were confident that Derek's proposal would provide adequate guidance to the Select employees who would be responsible for planning and doing the work. So, we chose Select. *Ray Collins managed our project. He placed our project on his calendar to suit our personal schedule. That was very helpful. During the work period that was about two weeks, Ray visited the project multiple times to monitor craftsmanship and progress. Between visits, Ray was immediately responsive to our emails and to our calls to his mobile phone. When occasional corrections were necessary, he made them immediately. *Demolition of the old powder room took less than a day. Then Felipe Montero built the new one. Felipe moved water pipes to match a new pedestal sink. He installed a custom wall-to-wall cabinet. He installed two new lights and two large, permanent mirrors. He moved the vent fan. He installed a new tile floor. He painted the walls and ceiling the colors that we chose. And he installed a new six-panel door that he stained to our requirements. He installed the new sink and toilet. Finally, he installed the lock set and fixtures that we had chosen. *Felipe did a great job. First, he got the details right. Where two different walls of different colors meet, the corner is straight and crisp with no sloppy overlapping paint. Where caulk is used, it's the proper color and the caulk line is true and inconspicuous. The floor tile is cleverly cut and laid flat with thin, clean grout lines. The wall-to-wall cabinet is beautifully fitted into its space. Second, to fully achieve our vision for the space, Felipe had to collaborate with us occasionally: for example on the arrangement of the floor tile, on the placement of the mirrors, and on the finish of the new door and its outer and inner door frames. Collaboration with a contracted worker can be a pain, but it wasn't at all a pain with Felipe. He was a really nice guy. And, once he understood the vision that was implicit in the contract, he achieved it well. *To summarize, everyone at Select was very friendly and very competent. They didn't take shortcuts. They did everything well. Other companies have done equally good jobs for us in their specialty areas, but none of them has ever exceeded Select's performance.

Kitchen was ripped to the studs and reconfigured. This job was preformed by basically 1 man. This project should have been done by 3-4 men to facilitate the finish.

I really appreciated the level of detail and professionalism that Select brought to the work. They were realisitic when giving me a quote about what would fit, what the costs would be and how much time it would take. Their quote was actually NOT the lowest we got, but it was itemized and didn't have a lot of hidden surprises like the other quotes had. I appreciated that they were honest with me and upfront with what they could provide in the space and budget. Charlie was the lead on our project and he took great care to protect the rest of the basement from construction dust. He was great about giving me a schedule so I would have an idea of what days would be louder (I stay home with a toddler), when water would be shut off etc. We had one delay in the start of the work (because another job hadn't quite finished on time), but once they began it moved quickly and efficiently. They were working off of a roughed in closet with the pipe hookups in place. They had to demo and expand the wall, lower the floor, and then build everything from the ground up. Along with the new construction, they also touched up the other bathrooms by changing out counters, fixtures, mirrors etc. The work was done quickly and they were responsive to my requests. In the work order it said they would repair and paint. Initially, that was not done but when I brought it up they did it quickly. When the work was finished, it really looked beautiful. The new bathroom is the nicest in our house and the other bathrooms no longer look tired and outdated.

They did a good job and the price was reasonable.

They took a while to get back to us after the initial contact and then they came back to the house, they arrived on time for the appointment and made an appointment for the evening. We did not use them. We are still actually in the process of going through bids and we haven't thought things right now but probably very soon. They came out and they had done similar projects to our house, almost identical. They were very familiar with the floor plan of our house. We had sent them in advance our floor plan with lots of details and a list of exactly what we wanted done with detailed drawings. It seemed like they haven't quite looked over that and weren't quite familiar with all of the details although they were familiar with that type of project and our type of house. We talked about budget and they brought that up pretty quickly and I would say that was a nerve of one of them coming out to the house because they told us right after that if we want to spend $35,000 and that's just not even reasonable. That's fine if you don't want. Knocking down the wall is going to be at least $50,000 so should we stay or should we leave? We're getting quotes from people and we're not sure what the others are going to come in. They took very thorough measurements and it was the woman from the company and then the designer that they use to represent several line of cabinetry companies. We like that they have the technical side of the design and the aesthetic side cover and how to lay out the kitchen. We also like that they have long experience with our floor plan. We didn't move forward with them to get a detailed estimate or even a detailed design because we got some lower estimates. They were closer to our budget from another company or two. What we wanted was just $35,000 and max $40,000. We were a little irritated because they hadn't really looked exactly like we wanted and the fact that we had sent that in advance and they said it's going to cost us $50,000. I might work with them in the future, but I will get a better estimate also.

Background: We did get estimates from 3 or 4 places about remodeling our tiny master bath. We had estimates that ranged from ~$6K-15K. We wanted everything replaced, but we did not need top of the line, marble, etc. We wanted functional, easy to maintain yet nice. Russ (who is no longer with the company) helped us figure out exactly what we wanted in our remodeling needs. He didn't try to push us into anything we didn't need or want. He really listened to how we used the bathroom and what our desired result would be. I don't think I would have been as comfortable with this remodeling project and the results if it hadn't been for Russ. The actual remodeling was completed in August 2012. The demo guys were fantastic. They even hauled extra junk to the junkyard for me. They were punctual, clean, and friendly. They made sure that the rest of our house wasn't open to all the demo dust etc. The gentleman who did the actual remodeling was friendly, kept the place clean, and a hardworker. The work was done in a timely and efficient manner. Everyone was punctual, pleasant and made sure to keep dust in the appropriate places. We did have some grout and tile issues after a few months of use. We called Select and they came out and fixed the problems and told us how we can maintain the grout in the future due to normal wear and tear. I would absolutely use them again if i were doing a big bathroom remodel.
