Select Kitchen & Bath

Our old, tiny kitchen was falling apart. The appliances were broken and clearly at the end of their life. The cabinets were cheap with worn out hardware. The linoleum floor was permanently stained. We didn't have a clue where to begin. Select Kitchen & Bath was terrific from day 1. They presented us with great options for a new design that would provide us with a bigger kitchen space without losing cabinet space. Their ideas were creative and practical. Select Kitchen & Bath gave us computer drawings of what the new space would look like so we could make changes and settle on a final design. Then they got to work and the work was not easy. The house is sixty years old and so they encountered a lot of unexpected problems, but they managed to work through it all and fast! A few (~8) weeks later, we had a brand new, beautiful kitchen that opened up into our dining room. The entire feel of the house has changed. There's space and their design optimizes the windows so we get abundant natural light in the house when it use to be so dark. All the workmen at Select Kitchen & Bath were terrific (especially Mark!), highly skilled and patient with us as we asked questions (sometimes the same question!) over and over again. We'd never done a big renovation like this before. Select Kitchen & Bath made it easy (because they did the design and the work) and the results are spectacular!

The Select Team was prompt & courteous (even when we had to cancel the first starting date due to illness in the family). We were introduced to the whole team and someone was always available to answer our questions. Overall the whole project went well. There were a couple of leaks that were spotted before the wall went up and were fixed the next day. Even though we own a small townhouse, they treated the job with all the quality of a big job.They stayed on schedule and budget. We are very happy with the results and will be using them for our kitchen update.

They saved us from making a very bad design decision. They came up with a wonderful solution to our needs - I am completely thrilled with my new space! I am so glad we went with Select on this project. This company is a pleasure to work with from start to finish. They are professional, on-time, and neat. I would recommend them without reservation.

They’ve been very professional. Their quote was not the cheapest that we got, but it wasn’t the most expensive either. The estimator was very meticulous and very willing to answer our questions and make sure that we understood everything.

Everything was fantastic - I would certainly recommend Select Kitchen and Bath to anyone. My townhome had 'builder-grade' bathrooms that were only 15 years old but badly in need of updating. Select worked with me to upgrade those portions of the baths that provided the most bang for the buck - even steering me to a local granite supplier who had a wonderful selection of remnants to choose from - making granite nearly as affordable as the cheap surfaces I was replacing. Rick Kimmel had wonderful ideas to completely gut and remodel the master bath, and sent me to a very talented designer who made the tile and fixtures choices quick and satisfying given that he could judge my tastes very quickly. Rather than having to look at 100s of tile samples, Devon provided a few to choose from that resulted in a gorgeous new master bath that is truly unique. The workmen were talented craftsmen who took the time to do the job right, were never intrusive, and met all their schedules on time or sooner. Since I work at home, I can honestly say that they never interfered with my work, came on time every morning, and left the house clean at the end of the day. Working with Diana (who kept me constantly in the loop on scheduling and payments) was a joy. I've had a lot of experiences with builders, both good and bad, and this project was on time and on budget - a rarity in the field. I now have a state of the art master bath that provides immense pleasure every time I walk into the room - from the chromatheraphy/hydrotherapy tub that replaced a clunky old Jacuzzi that I never used to the sexy new shower stall that is double in size to the old one, with multiple showerheads and an amazing glass shower door. When I had to call Select a few months later to take care of a few minor details, they were on it immediately - incredible customer service. Select is a first rate operation and I can give them the highest rating. They may not be the cheapest contractor, but then in my experience, you get what you pay for - and they provide quality and excellent service.

Design phase on the kitchen started while my husband and I were living in Germany - a logistical challenge that SELECT met head on. They were very proactive and flexible (esp. with the time difference) and had an incredible layout ready for us when we moved back. Particularly impressive was their pre-design questionnaire which helped ensure the final product met our family's needs. Staff easily guided us through the cabinet/counter top/hardware selection process. They were always ready to listen to our concerns or questions and had a "can-do" attitude about changes we made during the renovation. Workers were friendly, knowledgeable, clean and on time. Team players through and through - SELECT worked around several other projects we had going on to ensure our experience was positive. The results are amazing - it's hard to believe it's the same house! Our new bath and custom built kitchen have totally changed the way our family utilizes our living space.

I used Select when living in another house to remodel 3 bathrooms, which is why I called them in again when I moved. They always do exactly what they say, starting and finishing on schedule, providing a high quality of service, and charging according to the estimate provided. They are not the cheapest, nor the most expensive, but their consistent quality and no-hassle factor wins hands-down for me. They also flexibly work with me on the level of design and work that my husband and I want to do to keep costs down versus what they will do, and we've worked different combinations over the course of the 4 bathrooms I've done with them, depending on what needed to be done in each situation.

In mid-March we started the process of meeting with prospective contractors for a complete remodel/replacement of two full baths. After meeting with two other prospective contractors, our third appointment was with Select. We were impressed right out of the box during our first meeting with Rick Kimmel, who spent a good amount of very productive time during the initial and subsequent follow-up meeting shortly thereafter. Rick was thorough, organized, presented design recommendations and alternatives, and was very, very helpful. Also, Rick was always responsive (as we found all staff members to be), and upfront when discussing our choices of materials, changes, etc. throughout the project when we decided to contract with Select. Once we received the cost proposals and then confirmed our choice of Select K&B in mid-May, we were put on the calendar for start date on June 29. Five years ago, we had a complete kitchen remodel which was beset with unanticipated problems, delays and a level of responsiveness that left a lot to be desired – a frustrating experience. Not so with Select K&B. We knew exactly what was going to happen and when, and by whom. The project was coordinated so well and communications throughout were excellent. All of Select’s staff involved in our project were wonderful – from Diana Runyon who was the main project coordinator once construction started, to Kent Kitchens, the production manager, and the construction/carpentry leads assigned to do the work on the respective rooms (Sameh and Mark), to Jenny Gambino, office manager, and other people working on our project. We were very impressed - - and reassured through our own observations and experiences, that this company took pride in their work and their reputation. As the master bath project progressed, we had one situation pertaining to shower surround tile work that did not meet our expectations - not that the work was necessarily incorrect - it was not what we envisioned. When this was communicated to Select on Friday, the following Monday Kent Kitchens met with us and reviewed our concerns and the site area and informed us of steps that would be taken to adjust to what we desired. Select’s immediate response and attention to this situation further confirmed that customer satisfaction is indeed a priority. Both bathroom projects were started and completed in the estimated time frame as projected. We made some additions/changes along the way (and Rick always kept us apprised of which decisions we made would either come in under, or over the budget /original proposal, which was much appreciated). We also decided to have additional painting done – and the painting is beautiful (thanks to Marios and John). The new bathrooms are beautiful and we are very, very happy with them and the experience with Select. We will contact Select on any future work/home improvement projects, and highly recommend this company.

The work was performed in a very professional manner. They were punctual, courteous and extremely neat. The workmanship is superb. I would highly recommend them for a bathroom remodel.

They were able to start about two days after I signed the contract. They worked each day until we had to wait for my tile and vanity cabinet order to come in. They kept the work area clean and entered and left my house from a basement entrance which I had requested. Anytime I had a question, I got a call back within hours. The workmanship (done by John) is excellent as well as the painting (by Mario). I'm very happy with the finished project!

It was a wonderful experience. I had cell numbers to call with questions or concerns. There was someone here working almost every day so I did not feel that I was one of several jobs. Plus they kept the total time of family disruption to an absolute minimum. Select provided a level of one on one attention that you do not normally find in the contracting industry.

They prepped the house form the front door entry floor, up the stairs and across all work and supply areas. Sealed off master bath during duration of work (zip up plastic entry). Performed all work with only minor delays due to a plumbing inspection issue. Consulted with us on any questions or issues and resolved then in a professional manner. When we noted a discrepancy in the paint finish in the master bath, they exceeded exceptions in resolving our concerns. Change orders were handled in a timely manner. Work was delayed due to an issue with the medicine cabinets (not Selects design effort), and Select came back in when the final cabinets arrived. They provided frequent inspection visits and feed back during the process.

They did a great job. We would recommend them.

Our estimator, Russ, was extremely professional and helpful. As a panicky homeowner trying to remediate issues caused by a leaky shower, Russ talked me through my options in a way that helped me think clearly about the best way to address the problem. At no time did I suspect that he was trying to expand the scope of the project unnecessarily (thus expanding his profits). On the contrary, he knew that we'd keep coming back if we trusted him--and we do. He offered us a viable solution that was within our budget. We went with another contractor because, ironically, we suspected that we'd feel more comfortable performing more comprehensive work than what Russ could do within our budget. We might learn later that we're getting just what we pay for! Even after being told he'd lost the job, he offered advice on how to supervise the project to make sure the contractor with the lower price we went with didn't do substandard work. We will certainly call him again on our next project.

Very well. They promised 5 weeks, it took 8 weeks but part of that was my delay.

My first report indicated several issues that have since been resolved to my satisfaction. Select was timely in contacting me to deal with my concerns and I am quite happy with the end result. I would definitely recommend Select to others because the overall quality of work is very high and the people are great to work with.

After weeks of planning and discussions with the project estimator, I felt the project would progress fairly easily. I had done extensive research about the feasibility/cost of my changes and I knew precisely what I wanted in the room, where I wanted everything in the room and how I expected the final project to look. My discussions with the project estimator were very specific [we both were very detail-oriented]. In fact, his attention to detail was the very reason I chose Select. However, I learned that no matter how many discussions you have and how much planning you do, the final application is only as good as the people doing the actual work. The project began very well. Edgar, the primary worker from Select, was very punctual, maintained a neat work area and was easy to talk with about his time-line and what he would accomplish each day. Edgar, however, was not the project manager. The project manager wasn't quite as accessible as everyone else from Select and this became an issue as the project progressed. The progress of the project and quality of work deteriorated once the plumber came into the picture [what is a bathroom without plumbing?]. Initially, the thermostat/volume valves were installed improperly, the ceiling-mounted shower head had more water coming from the shower arm/shower head connection than through the shower head, the wall-mounted shower head slide bar interfered with valve operation, the diverter valve trim was crooked [I provided pictures of how everything should look], a supply line to one of the sinks was leaking - but most disturbing is that had I not tested the fixtures the evening after this work was done no one would have said anything to me about all that was wrong. So, the plumber returned and fixed the ceiling-mounted shower head connection, straightened the diverter trim and the other valves but damaged the diverter while doing all of this - so, the trim was straight but the diverter was no longer diverting. Also, Edgar had begun to lay the pebble stone tile in the shower, but no one mentioned they had never laid this type of tile before so the slope of the floor was not high enough, thus the water wouldn't drain properly. The shower floor had to be dug up and re-laid [I had to purchase more tile for the shower floor and a new diverter for the shower itself]. All the while, the project manager would take days to a week to respond to my questions about the plumbing and tiling issues. I would learn what was planned from Edgar and then again try to contact the project manager when I was dissatisfied with the information I received from Edgar. Edgar is a master tiler. If not for Edgar, I would be under medical supervision. The plumber finally completed his work, but even so I noticed the flange on the ceiling-mounted shower head is not attached to the ceiling and he didn't caulk around the fixtures. So, I'll be caulking for awhile and hope nothing leaks - I have yet to actually use the shower.

This was close to a perfect project. Russ the estimator was careful and professional. He identified potential problems and devised good solutions. The actual work was accomplished carefully and on time. The principal workman, Rene was punctual meticulous and highly professional. Adjoining areas and access were carefully protected. The work area was cleaned up care-fully each day. The workmanship was excellent. The work supervisor came by regularly to check on progress and inspect the work. Diana, the work scheduler was great to work with. She kept us informed of what was planned and handled coordination of workers with great skill.

They were absolutely excellent. They indicated it would be eight weeks for the work to be done and it was. They didn't get any dust in our home. They were very punctual. They always let me know who would be working in my home. There was one small problem that they fixed and they can me credit for it. That is a goodwill gesture.

Terrific! I am very pleased with the result. The quality of the work was excellent, and everyone at Select that I dealt with was wonderful. Russ Troxel was helpful in guiding me in making choices, John (who did the actual work) was excellent and made sure that the rest of the house stayed as clean as possible. Others at the company (Kent and Diana) were always available when I had a question. In the end, the price was a bit higher than I would have thought at the beginning, but that was partly my fault because of items that I selected (granite countertop, for example).

They removed and replaced a bathtub, put new tile on the walls, and removed vinyl floor and replaced it with ceramic tile. It took longer than estimated but the work was done professionally. Quality work.

Everything with Select went splendidly well. I would use them again in a heartbeat. The truth is they are slightly more expensive than any other estimate we received (by maybe 10-30%), but they were worth every penny (and they ended up coming in slightly below budget). They have a solid business going, where they've got project managers and schedulers and daily workers; they have good relationships with their subcontractors. We always knew what was going on; they responded well to phone calls, e-mails, etc. Once, I wrote a panicked e-mail in the middle of the night (3 am) and had a response from the owner the next morning. They did a great job!! We love our new kitchen!! The *only* caveat I have is that, like all major remodeling, one should assume the work will take twice as long as what they say. Not that they weren't working, but things always come up! (It took 6 weeks instead of the estimated 3.)

My husband and I are extremely pleased with our new kitchen! All of the work was executed excellently and this was a very smooth remodeling experience. We were very impressed with the professionalism, knowledge and congeniality that everyone on their team exhibited. We felt like we were in capable hands from the very beginning and this turned out to be the case. I would not hesitate to recommend this company to family and friends in the future.

They came out to discuss options for our remodeling job and worked within our budget. They were great at staying on the schedule that was developed at the beginning of the project. In fact, they were a few days ahead of schedule and we had to wait for the cabinets to be delivered. Edgar did a fantastic job in our kitchen. He was always professional and on time. Diana always kept us informed about the schedule and when the contractors would be at our home. Select was wonderful to work with. We were very impressed with the attention to detail. During the construction phase, we would notice little things that would need to be taken care, however, before we could say something, Edgar had already taken care of it. And on the final walk-through, Rick made some changes that we would have never noticed but really made a difference. Our remodeling experience with Select was wonderful and we're looking forward to doing our bathrooms with them, too!

Select gave us a list of outside items to purchase, and they did the install. In some cases, Select could buy at better prices than us, and they sold to us at their cost. Their scheduler always gave us project updates and schedules. Charlie, the installer, did excellent work and was always pleasant. He also helped us with a small electrical problem in the house. We were extremely pleased with the results of the bathroom.
