This was a bad situation to begin with. The morning of settlement for our new house we had a walk-through and noticed the hardwood floors were buckling in the kitchen near our refrigerator. Our agent called the listing agent and she said she would handle it. The listing agent contacted Nacho Flooring Service to come out and provide a quote prior to settlement on the afternoon of July 31st. We settled on the house that afternoon thinking that the floors would be fixed within a week. The listing agent gave Nacho Flooring Service a key to our house, which at the time, we were fine with since we hadn't moved anything in. In the beginning of August, Nacho Flooring Service came out to the house to check the moisture levels in the floor and said it was still too damp and they would be back later in the week to check it again. They ended up showing up again to check the moisture levels, and again, the floor was too damp. My fiancé asked if they would dry faster if they removed the linoleum that was underneath the hardwood floors that were already ripped up. Nacho Flooring Service agreed that removing the linoleum would indeed speed up the drying process (I don't know why they didn't suggest this to begin with). After not hearing from the company for over a week, we were told that they would be showing up at our house on the evening of Wednesday, August 21st. Wednesday night came and went without word from Nacho Flooring Service. We contacted the company on Thursday evening to find out what happened and to schedule a time for them to come out and finish the floors. They mentioned that they were in our house (without our knowledge) earlier that day and the moisture levels were getting better and that they would come back out to finish the job between 9 AM and 10 AM on Saturday, August 24th. On that Saturday, no one from Nacho Flooring Service showed up. We left multiple voicemails throughout the day on Saturday, but have yet to hear back. The listing agent also called them multiple times on Saturday and Sunday and did not hear back from them. Thankfully, the listing agent is contacting another company to finish the job. We had to change the locks to our house since Nacho Flooring Service never returned our keys. This is by far the most unprofessional company I have ever worked with. Even if they are the cheapest and seem good in the beginning, I would highly recommend not using them. If we had a say in the process, after looking at their reviews on Angie's List, we would have never used them in the first place.

Description of Work: This is a hard business to evaluate because I have used thrm a number of times to do work for my clients and they have done beautiful work. Their on time record is terrible. They just don't seem to know how to schedule. My last experiecne last year was to have the flooring in an entire home refinished. I talked to them several times but could not get anyone to come to give an estimate. I gave up.Since I am in real estate I can not have customers following my recmmendations and not hearing back from the company.

We used Nacho Floor Services in 2009 to restore 100- year old pine floors throughout our DC row home, and I have no complaints about the job or their professionalism, or the competitive price for that work. The whole house was done for approximately $6,000. Given our previous positive experience, naturally, when we needed to remove carpeting and install wood flooring in a condo a relative recently purchased, we wanted to work with Nacho Floor Services again. I'm not sure if the company has changed hands in the past 3 years or is experiencing staffing problems, but a more recent experience was completely different, and unfortunately, entirely unsatisfactory. It doesn't seem that they have a professional service or employee answering the phone or taking messages any longer, and it was extremely difficult to get in touch with them to schedule an estimate. We finally managed to coordinate on getting them to come and do an in-person estimate. Although the Nacho representative was courteous when he arrived to assess the job, we were extremely disappointed never to have actually received a final price for the job in follow-up. I can only imagine that the condo job was too small for them and they had no interest in completing it, or could not schedule it by the time we needed the work completed-- our family member has asthma, so we needed to get the carpets removed and floors taken care of before she could take up residence. The communication was very poor in that we never received word that Nacho Floor Services did not want to do this job or could not schedule it in time. One of the many times we attempted to contact them about the final price, they actually hung up on us! We have not experienced these problems with other contractors in this area, and are not sure what is going on with this company. (?) We clearly had to work with another company for this job, which ultimately cost $3500.

This company does not always show up as scheduled. I lost a lot of work waiting for them. They finished by floors and after allowing the recommended drying time, I came home to find the finish was peeling and bubbling. They came back and resanded and refinished. This time I allowed two weeks before returning home and found the same problem. They offered to come sand and refinish and third time but couldn't tell me why this happened or what they would do differently to prevent it from happening again. I refused and asked for a refund. They refused. They also dented by refrigerator door in the process. I had several other companies come in for estimates in fixing the problem. Two contractors told me that the floors had been sanded too many times and that they would need to be replaced. One contractor was even able to put his finger through the floor. Two years later I am still trying to get my money, but they do not return calls and return all court summons.

This is the place NOT to go. They: will NOT return your phone calls will NOT speak to you in person will blow off appointments will refuse to remedy the situation will give you 2 very different stories. I bought my condo in December 2009 and initially did not have a problems with my hardwood floors the first few months. But my neighbors were telling me they were. Sure enough 5-6 months later the floors started buckling, gaps were getting bigger or cracking, and the floorboards are splitting down the middle. Apparently my unit is too dry, or wait they also told me it was too humid, that's why the floor boards are buckling AND gapping. This company isn't in it for customer satisfaction and seem to rely on first time customers only. If you want to waste your money, feel frustrated and have sub-par quality work, give them a call. Otherwise avoid these guys like the plague. They also, as of last month, are not licensed/bonded to work in the District. I called a hardwood floor inspector due to the frustration of not receiving an answer to the problem. His answer was that their solution was only a band aid to the problem and the installation was done incorrectly. In order to correct the problem, they would have to tear up the floors and redo it according to the correct process. I'm still trying to get it done properly. I've been working on this issue since August 2010.
Description of Work: Floors were already installed in the purchase of my brand new condominium. I had them come out to take a look at some problem areas (buckling, crowning, gapping, splitting) as I was still covered in the warranty. It took 3 separate attempts to have them come out and they finally came out on the 3rd attempt but could not explain what was causing the issues. They definitely had a solution, sand it down, fill in the gaps and revarnish. But I wanted an explanation on why it was happening to ensure that it would not happen again. They couldn't provide an answer.

This is the second time we've used Nacho and have had an amazing experience with them both times. once on a condo and this time on a row house. the company is absolutely terrific -- very affordable, totally professional and an amazing job on quality of floors and quality of installation. i have recommended to other people who have also given glowing reviews.

They were great. The estimator, was very thorough and polite. The refinishing crew did a GREAT job with the work, matching the stain, putting plastic sheeting on everything so that it didn't get dusty, and then cleaning up at the end. The only challenge was getting someone to pick up the phone immediately when we had questions, but they responded pretty quickly when we left messages.
Description of Work: Refinished hardwood floors throughout our home, including quarterrounds. Matched the stain (perfectly) for the other hardwoods we weren't refinishing, and buffed those areas to bring them back to life.

It was an average experience. I am very particular. The bedroom floor came out fine. The kitchen had some issues. They came back and re-did it, but even after that it wasn't totally right. Since it was a rental home I decided not to do anything more with it. If it would have been my home I might have taken it a bit further. It wasn't a perfect job, but it wasn't a bad job either. Since then I had another company do some work on my own floors, and I had some issues with them as well. I am yet to find a hardwood floor company that I am completely happy with. I am in the construction trade as well, and I know more than the average person about what is right and wrong. They all seem to be making the same mistakes. I wouldn't give them negative feedback. I would just say they are pretty much average. They had very good prices, but you get what you paid for. I think if you went to a company that charged significantly more, than you would get a better job. They did what they said they were going to do. They answered my questions, but not always correctly. They always showed up when they said they would. I was a little disappointed that one crew started the project, and a different crew finished it. That seemed to be where the problem arose. I communicated to one crew what I wanted, and then another crew showed up. I would have preferred that they would have followed through with the same crew. Depending on what the job was, I would consider using them in the future. I think if the job was simple they would be good, but I would go elsewhere for more significant jobs. I have came to the conclusion that it is hard to find someone who truely understands how to do hardwood floors.
Description of Work: I have had quotes by Nachos Floor Service, and I have used them. They re-finished an upstairs bedroom floor and the kitchen floor downstairs in a rental house.

The estimator came out within a few days of calling; it took a few follow up calls to get the estimate, but Nacho floors had come highly recommended, so it was worth it. The work was scheduled very shortly after the contract was signed and the workers showed up to relocate the flooring. A different crew arrived shortly after to sand and finish the floors. The crew stayed 'til 8:00pm to finish sanding the floors and agreed to come back the next day to apply the first of 3 coats. The finishes forgot to patch some holes with putty prior to installing the first top coat, they repaired this by applying additional top coats to seal the wood filler. The work was completed in a neat and timely manner.
Description of Work: Nacho Floors removed 52 sq ft of flooring from the upstairs of our house and used it to patch damaged flooring on the ground floor of the house. They then sanded and refinished both the upstairs, stairs and downstairs floors (on separate occasions) and patched the damaged portions of the flooring.

Very well. They were able to come out the same day for the estimate. We originally only wanted three small areas in the kitchen refinished, and the rep. let me know it would only be $100 more to refinish the whole kitchen plus the entry. We had tight time constraints, and he carefully explained our options so we could make a good decision. They were also able to work with our schedule as we had to stay elsewhere (with kids and dogs) while the work was being done. They did a pretty good job covering doorways and countertops/cabinets with plastic sheeting, and cleaned up after themselves. Our floors look beautiful!

In one place, work was great and completed on time. In the other, I had to ask for rebuffing and a third coat of finish. The receptionist and owner/manager are very polite and willing to do this, but they are not pro-active. For instance, in one apartment, the crew blew the master fuse for the unit and did not know what was wrong or how to fix it. The company depended on me to research the problem and the solution. This was a straightforward problem which any electrician be able to solve. (If I had had to fix the fuse box, I don't know what would have happened.) Moreover, to get access to my fusebox, that same crew destroyed my kitchen shelving. While I had approved its removal, they were so ham-handed that I have had to replaster the walls and get new shelves. Bottom line: If you're lucky they do great work, but there is no oversight or review of the final product, and some crews are not well trained.
Description of Work: Sand off old finish from 1940's vintage parquet flooring and stairs, stain or replace (with provided squares) as necessary and refinish. Work to be performed in two different apartment units which are being combined.

Estimator came when he said he would. Workers started a week or so after we signed the contract. They would have started earlier except we were not ready. Workers came on time & worked steadily (no music). They finished in 3 days. Floors look wonderful. They even put tiny strip around fireplace apron which we hadn't realized was needed earlier.
