Setting up the appointment through the Angie's list deal was very easy. This was a last minute job, and Murphy's Family Services was able to send someone out a few days after I contacted them, which I greatly appreciated. The electrician, Danny, arrived on time and was prompt and professional. The end result was exactly what I needed. I would definitely hire again.

Sean was very responsive, arrived on time and did good quality work. I did find the customer having to choose which service call and associated rate to be confusing.

Very pleased with Murphy Family Electric. Scheduling, invoicing, and payment is very easy - they use the Square Appointments app. Randy, the electrician who came to my home, updated me on his status the day of the appointment. Randy is very experienced. He quickly diagnosed a problem and installed several new 'programmable' dimmer switches. He is very friendly and expertly answered my questions and explained what he was doing. I plan to use Murphy's again in the spring to add wiring and outlets in my garage. I cannot say enough good things about Randy and Murphy's Electric.

Wow, such a pleasant experience! Sean was responsive, prompt, and very professional. He took his time and followed up with helpful suggestions. Murphy's will definitely be my Number 1 go to for all my electrical needs! Highly recommend!

Excellent work by Danny. He was punctual, personal, and meticulous, and ensured everything was cleaned up after the work. He also identify a bearing problem with the bathroom vent fan resulting in a less than efficient operation. He provided insight on having the manufacture replace the fan at no cost and the end result was a very quiet and efficient fan. Also the fan I purchased online was much larger than the one being replaced and Danny went the extra yard to reconstruct the opening for a proper fit.

Requested a quote and received a response in under a half hour with an estimated price. Made an appointment for service on the same day. He called when he was on his way and arrived punctually. Very professional and friendly. The job was well done in about an hour. I am extremely happy with this company and their outstanding customer service! They will definitely get my business again.

This is a review for Murphy Family Electric services – a company that lacks integrity, doesn’t honor appointments and is quite rude when the tech didn’t show up THREE TIMES IN A ROW – two of them were work days and the other was the weekend. I first started working with them years ago and didn’t feel the need to check out their recent reviews since they did an excellent job on several occasions. However, the company, especially the owner has really gone to the dogs. I’ve texted with Sean (owner) several times because he refuses to answer the phone. First no show – “the tech was sick”, yet four hours into my reservation for a full-day electrician, no one bothered to call and tell me anything, so I called their office number. Instead of answering the phone, Sean replied via text that “he can’t control when people call out sick” but somehow he could not understand that he has control and an obligation to give me an update. Since I scheduled my initial appointment more than a month ago, he PRETENDED to go out of his way and schedule me for a weekend appointment. This is when I experienced the “second no show” but this time, no reason was given after waiting three hours before I contacted him. One might think I was crazy, because now I’m questioning my own sanity, but we rescheduled the third appointment a few days later. I felt hopeful because the tech reached out to me at 8am claiming “that he overslept and was on the way”. Yet three hours later, no tech, no update and neither the owner nor Sammy (tech) are answering their phones or replying to text. Before Sean decided to go ghost, he had the NERVE to ask me to “be patient since they would surely fix the problem”. I commented that the company has really gone downhill, lacks integrity and doesn’t care about it’s customers. So while I went through the painstaking process of buying all of the parts needed, arranging care for my ill mother and being off of work a second time, I’m left with the frustration of the tech not showing up. Sean SHOULD NOT COMMENT on this review as being incorrect because I have text messages that I can post proving how rude and uncaring he was throughout this entire week of torture. My guess is that the company chose to work with someone that had an emergency they could charge an exorbitant rate and ignore people who have reserved their daily special. This company should be removed from Angie’s List (where I first connected with them) and should find a better way of communicating with their techs and their customers.

Appointment constantly changed without notice and total disregard of my time. Electrician tried to prepare me to expect to pay for extra time beyond the 30 minutes included before even knowing extent of work which took only about 15 minutes. Further, he did not know it was an Angies's job and tried to charge me double . . Actual work was completely satisfactory.

Everything went very well. I purchased a 4 hour deal and immediately upon claiming the deal, someone called to book an appointment for the following day. That was unexpected but appreciated! I provided most of the materials per the deal and a lot was done in the 4 hours. The work was done professionally and everything looks excellent. The representative was also very professional and polite. My only complaint is that there were some unexpected fees when we settled up (stuff like gas fees). I would just recommend asking upfront about extra fees.

A little late but called ahead and let me know. Went right to work and completed the job properly. Billing was straight forward and had a $100 discount for Angie's List members.

I purchased the Electrician for a Day deal and was very appreciative of the work. I had four new lights installed and wired (three of them were brackets for ceiling fans) which included measuring and cutting the hole, wiring up the new sockets to switches, and installing the brackets/boxes. Additionally, I had a couple of outlets that needed to be replaced worked on. They were easy to get a hold of, on time, and tidied up the work area after.

Jake was an amazing technician. He was professional, knowledgeable and didn't waste any time. I'll definitely be suing Murphy's services again.

Danny was great. I initially opted for the half day of service because I was unsure of how long it would take to do the requested work. The work only took two hours, so he charged me for the hourly rate rather than the half day to help me save some money. 10/10, I'd hire again.

Jake showed up on time and let me know well in advance of his expected arrival time. The work was completed with great quality, especially since my house has some weird "older home" issues. The install was quick and the fan works a looks great. Would definitely hire again for electrical needs.

After the contractor finished the work at my home, provided the cost to be paid, the work was paid for. Then the company sends me another invoice for additional money. Despite back and forth emails from the company, the issue has not been resolved.

It never happened. I requested a quote online claiming a deal Murphy Family Services was running. However, I saw that Angie's List had a posted a notice regarding Murphy Family Service's not having a D.C. Electrical Contractor License. When chatting with a representative, I asked if this situation has been resolved. The representative said, "yes". When asked to provide a license via the attachment option (which anyone should be willing to do), I was told, "I need to pay a permit service fee of $369". I caution anyone in D.C. (or anyone for that matter) on this. I would not pay a permit fee of any amount to (a) discover the electrician is unlicensed, or (b) to even be able to see a license. Any reputable company licensed in the advertised area would provide this free of charge. Buyer beware.

Jake did an outstanding job with our recessed lighting installation. He was very attentive to detail and making sure the lights were aligned and symmetrical, and that nothing was damaged during the work. He managed through hard work and persistence to install six units without damaging our drywall. He also looped me into decision-making at the right times, and was great at communicating the pros and cons of different choices. I was able to provide the canisters, lights, and dimmer myself which allowed me to research and choose exactly what I wanted and avoid markups, but used their wiring. I got the full day deal and was also able to have Jake swap out an old light switch for a Lutron paddle switch for check into some other electrical issues in another room. Installing this lighting was a stress-free experience, and it's made our space so much more livable and usable. I plan to use Murphy Family Services again for some additional updates.

I was able to schedule an appt very quickly the initial time and the electrician, Danny, communicated with both myself and my tenant, as it was a rental property and arranged a time to stop by that was good for my tenant. The outlet suddenly started working before Danny arrived so when he got there he explained to me that he just made some minor repairs since he didn't know what to do because it wasn't broken at the time. About 10 days later, my tenant called and said that the outlet malfunctioned again. I contacted the company and explained to the person (whom I assume is the owner or manager) what happened and he contacted Danny and was able to get him out shortly after. Danny said he replaced the breaker for me as well as did some other things, which I was kind of lost due to the jargon. Anyway, they said that there will not be a charge the second time, which I really appreciate. Overall, great communication from both the manager/dispatcher as well as the technician, Danny. And they seem like they really wanted to help me resolve the situation as opposed to milking me for more money. This type of honesty in any business is a rarity nowadays.
