I scheduled an appointment to repair a ceiling fan with Murphy Family services. The appointment was confirmed 1- 1:30 PM. I received a call & text from an employee from Murphy family services that he would be at my house 3:30- 4:00 pm. To be clear, the e-mail confirmation I received stated this was "not an exact time" but rather a block of time. (Morning, midday, afternoon) However, I would consider that gap quite excessive - regardless, the employee never showed up between 3:30 - 4:00 pm. Instead, they showed up around 4:20 PM while I was in the bathroom. I called immediately after using the bathroom and the employee from Murphy Family Services said they would not turnaround even though it was about 5-10 minutes max from when they called my phone. I've attached the text confirming the 3:30 - 4 pm appointment,the e-mail confirmation I received stating 1-1:30 PM, and the foul language used against me as a customer.

We apologize for your inconvenience. We offered to come back later that evening as we had another customer in queue, and the prior customer took longer than anticipated. We also offered to come in the morning, however, we were being mistreated verbally. It's important to be understanding of the challenges of mobile service work, to be polite as well with the service providers, as the tech was exhausted at the end of the day.

Very unprofessional at best. I scheduled this service with Murphy Family Services between 12-12:30pm because I had an online training to resume at 1pm. Everything was well planned then. In his first call to me, Danny informed me at 12:15 and let me know that he will be at my place in 15 mins (1st call). At 12:35 he called me again and let me know that he is going to be 15 mins late (2nd call) and to which I responded that I have a training starting at 1pm and if possible, can he come after he finishes his other appointment. To which he refused with a really bad attitude. The time window that was provided to me was 12noon-12:30pm, but Danny began arguing over the phone that the time window is actually Morning, Afternoon, and Evening, and NOT really the 30 mins time window that I was provided by Sean Murphy. To which, I asked him if he can come now then that would be great and I then already planned of joining my online training late (about 15 mins at this time). Everything is going well when he arrived and then Danny abruptly leaves the work that he was supposed to finish because I had notified to the manager (Sean) who had scheduled my services that Danny was late. This abrupt departure along with terrible attitude and arguing over the phone results in F grade for Murphy. I will NEVER again schedule another service from them and will advise all my friends in the neighborhood to do that same.

We aren't able to do exact times, because of prior job complications, traffic, and other factors as service providers. We hope you understand. We did want to take care of your electrical needs.

Danny came out and was exceptional, diagnosing and repair a mess of mistakes from another company involving close to a dozen lights and switches. Also installed two bathroom exhaust fans. Again Danny was absolutely a miracle worker, deserves an A++++++ rating. I will definitely use Murphy Family Services again...and request Danny.

We had a massive list of electrical items (fans, light fixtures, new outlets, attic fan check, etc.) and their full-day option was perfect. Their master electrician Dan was extremely courteous and helpful and did an incredible job on each project. We could not be more pleased with how much he accomplished in the day. Would definitely recommend and will use again!

They were phenomenal, reached out immediately and were very professional.

It went very well. Everything was done very quickly. The technician was on time and very professional. He even told me that I would need to get a handyman to replace the worn out drywall around one of the outlets. The total cost was approximately $130.00.

I claimed a deal titled “TV Outlet installed for $89” from Murphy Family Services. NOTE: In accordance with the deal, "materials and 2 hours of labor" included, with no stipulations that would have impact this job. The job consisted of relocating the electrical and cable outlets from the standard 16 inches from the floor, to approximately 48 inches on same wall, in order to mount a TV. The job did not require special tools or materials. The job required the technician to cut out a whole in the drywall, run the electrical and cable lines to the desired height and location, install a new box or outlets to house the electrical and cable lines. Danny, the technician, arrived early and was very professional and cordial. Great! After showing the technician the job, Danny departed to go pick up materials from the store (first flag, advertised “TV Outlet Installation” and the technician arrive without the materials to complete a standard installation). The technician returned and promptly went to work on completing the job. After approx. 1 hour. The technician completed the job and nicely cleaned up work area. (My mistake and your lesson, always test this type of work). After completing the work, Danny, informed me, he was contacting his office for the final price. After a few minutes, he showed me a bill for $492. Somehow, the $89 deal was now costing me $492. No prior notice was given of the 452% increase from the original price, or I would have cancel the work. Of course, I requested an explanation, the technician explained the cost was for materials. Ok, please explain what materials cost $400. Technician explained, the wiring/cables, the box purchased to house the electrical and a splitter. I refused to pay. NOTE: I went to Lowes later the same day to price the materials used: Recessed TV Box Surge Outlet & Connector - $38.44 Splitter - $14.99 15 feet cable - $20.99 Electrical outlet - $21.99 Electrical Line - $43.97 Total Materials $140.38, not including taxes. Approximately 186% markup in material costs. After expressing my outrage at the cost and my position, I was not going to pay the $492. Danny contacted his office and came back with a cost of $183. OK, better; however, by this time, I retrieved the offer and showed the technician the complete offer, which stated “materials and 2 hours of labor” were included. The technician read the offer to his office. After going back and forth with his office, the technician informed me, he was told to go back in my house and remove everything, and the company was not honoring the offer. The technician was not allowed back into my home. After contacting Angie List’s customer service, I provided the technician and check for $89, which he refused to accept. When I told him he was not getting a credit card, since I no longer trusted the integrity of the company, the technician was told to take the check and leave the property. Later that afternoon, I hung my TV, and of course the cable did not work (always test, before the technicians depart). I spent a few hours and another $60, undoing what the technician had done and installing the correct materials. By far my worst experience with Angie’s List’s vendors.

We are sorry for your experience. As you can see based on your math we would lose money providing what this offer from Angie’s list states. So we removed it. Originally we wished to simply install a standard outlet for that off a nearby existing outlet. Installing a special kind of recessed tv outlet as well as purchasing and fishing low voltage wire and “doing up to two hours of labor” is simply not possible for the offered $89. We are sorry this was advertised to you and you had this experience.

Awful. Track Lights in Family Room don't work. Ceiling fan in Study needed a down rod and the electrician didn't use it and the blades hit the ceiling when running. Did not send the electrician that I booked. The person he sent was very respectful and said the owner lied to him and said he would be around. He said he was not real comfortable with electrical, that he could do it, but not his best work, that he was better at building things. The owner stopped by to bring the guy and walk the project which was a first warning sign. Had they sent the professional I booked I'm sure the project would have went fine. I texted the owner that I was concerned. Also in the text I said I was still going to tip the guy, that he has worked hard but wasn’t real good at electrical. The owner said in the text, no don't tip, just please pay the "Tall Ladder Fee". The owner is very unethical and unprofessional. Even more to the story, but this is enough. I will be filing a lawsuit against the company in the coming days.

If we can't communicate with you to help you resolve everything favorably, we will respond to your review. The tech who has over 15 years of experience from all things handyman to minor electrical said you didn't have the correct lamps or a special long down rod ready, which are required to be customer supplied, per the full day deal. A special tall ladder versus placing plywood on the desk was the safe and appropriate choice which we brought to the job site from the shop. The owner brought it and came to setup the job because it's not far from the shop. We suggested not tipping and that it was unnecessary because we pay the techs well, and focusing on providing the tall ladder for the high ceiling, so we could perform the work safely yet you give us a C on price. We are eager to know more about how we can improve our ethical and professional standards and why you are filing a lawsuit. We know this time of year and what you were trying to accomplish before the holidays can be stressful and that more work is needed to be done at your home. We want to help you with the concerns such as putting the correct lamps and installing a longer down rod and the additional work you talked to us about at a fair price and provide you with the appropriate technicians who are closest and best suited for your specific job and area. We suggest this as a more constructive and professional course of action.

The electrician showed up on time and eager to get started. He swiftly eliminated the breaker box as being at fault, and systematically tracked down two separate faults...one at an outlet and another at a switch in the attic. I'm an electronics technician by trade, so I know a little bit about electricity, but these problems had eluded me for weeks...the Murphy Family Services electrician found both problems in less than an hour. If I ever have electrical problems again in the future, I'm not wasting time troubleshooting on my own...I'm contacting Murphy!
