The project went excellently and the difference in the lighting level is phenominal. it is truly like night and day.

This company is awesome. A person contacted me to inquire about the job and he was very professional. He gave me a quote and was able to get someone to come out to install the lighting fixture the next day. However, someone was close in the area where he was able to be at my house to install it within 20 minutes of me initially calling. The person that installed the light was very professional and quick. I will definitely be using this company again for my electrical needs.

Sam Johnson arrived on time and quickly identified the faulty equipment and resolved the issue. He made a recommendation for updated equipment that is not essential but will be more efficient. Sam was professional, considerate and knowledgeable. I would hire him again and recommend him to anyone who needs a qualified electrician. Thanks, Sam.

They did a super job. On time, did the work professionally, wore a mask, tidied up the workspace before leaving, and a nice guy. They'd given me a very reasonable quote for the work and lived up to it. Very pleased.

Murphy's Family Services should never be hired for electrical work. They are a company that cuts corners and takes advantage of its customers. Before writing this review, I made multiple attempts to contact Murphy's Family Services. When they finally answered and I asked if them if they had a minute to talk to me, they said “no” and hung up. This is the level of service Murphy has to offer. I hired Murphy's Family Services for a full day of service on August 7th, 2020. Based on the previous reviews, I expected a professional that could do things in a safe and timely manner. Unfortunately, I ended up with incredibly slow service, multiple electrical code violations, and a complete lack of professionalism. The day started with the electrician coming an hour late. Luckily, I currently work from home so I was able to greet them at the door and run through everything I needed to have done. He told me everything was good and got to work. After only working for three hours, the electrician walked over and informed me he didn't have the right supplies for the rest of the work so I would either need to cut the visit short (half a day) or pay for his time while he was out shopping for the supplies. This was a big red flag for me because we had gone through the list upon arrival so he knew at the start he did not have the supplies but stayed quiet. Also, one day of electrical work was a much better deal than doing two half a day ($929 versus $764). I was at a meeting for work during this conversation so I didn't have time to really talk this through with him. I just told him that he needed to finish the basement light (since that was a high priority and still not started) and that I would call to discuss if I wanted to do the rest of the work another day. The work completed in a four hour period: * Replace a two-wire (ungrounded) electrical outlet with a three-prong - I told the electrician I wanted a GFCI outlet put in but he told me this was unnecessary and installed a grounded, three-wire electrical outlet where there is no ground to connect to. This was the first National Electrical Code (NEC) violation. * Replace an improperly installed light fixture in the basement with a proper one - The previous homeowners had improperly installed a hanging fluorescent light so I asked my electrician to take that light down and put in an outlet so that the new light could be installed correctly. The new light was a LED shop light with a cord. The electrician ignored my instructions and cut the cord, hard-writing the light into an electrical junction box. This is the second NEC code violation. To get this fixed, I will have to buy a 3rd light fixture since the cord has been cut. * Replace a ceiling fan in my bedroom - This was done very poorly. For one, the electrician forgot to connect my light switch to the fan so now the light/fan can only be controlled via pull chain (my light switch does nothing). - I also noticed that the ceiling fan swings quite a bit and had another electrician took a look for me during an estimate, they told me that I didn't have a fan rated box installed and there was a risk of the fan falling on us when we were sleeping. This was the third NEC code violation. * Add an electrical outlet a foot away from an existing outlet - The outlet seems to work but I'm hesitant to use it because everything else was done incorrectly. Do not hire Murphy's Family Services for any electrical work!

Easy to get an appointment and readily took care of installing 10 new smoke detectors. Wore a mask and was friendly and professional. Would hire again. Time of arrival delayed due to vehicle issues (which I know you can't plan for) so service was not at the time I had planned but I made it work. Promptly notified me of the delay and worked with my schedule for later that same day. I would use again.

I highly recommend Murphy Family Electric, in particular Dan, for all of your electrical needs. I needed a ceiling fan installed at a location on my ceiling where there was no current electrical box. The owner gave me a virtual estimate that beat his competitors. Dan was on-time, showed up with a mask, and performed the service professionally. I especially liked how even though I put down some old sheets, he still covered my living room in plastic he brought, to ensure I had no mess to clean up after he was done. Dan was kind, professional and now I have a fan that works beautifully. He took the time to make sure I understood how to work the fan's remote before he left.

On 8/8/2020, I was charged $193.50 for diagnosing the problem that this outdoor garage light did not work which took 30 minutes only. Of course, I was already aware of this fact before the electrician came onsite! ! ! Very poor! Please do not use Murphy Family Electric in the Richmond Virginia area.

Work went very well. All work was done promptly. He did very well with a complex switch problem, and showed a masterly skill of the subject.

Excellent service. I believe it was Shawn who did the service. He arrived early and worked quickly which I appreciated since they charge by the hour. He was obviously cognizant and respectful of this. He was friendly and efficient. The work was well done. The price was also excellent compared to another quote I got. I will use Murphys for future needs.

Sean did my service and he was exceptional. Very communicative about arrival time, did installation/repair quickly and price was very fair. Also, was able to schedule online, which was awesome, and was able to see me within the week!

Better then I could have hoped. Great electrician, no attempt at an up sell. Explained well what was needed. Multi-state company but worked as if they were the local guy trying to make a good name for themselves.

For starters, my appointment was at 3 pm, I took off work to meet the technician. But he didn't show up. I started calling and leaving the company messages. Finally I got a call back at 4:30 that he was held up. I understood that he was tied up on another project. The quote on Yelp for this visit was$99. The technician was at my house for 20 mins, and he charged me 193.50 saying for travel time but that was never in the initial quote. But I still agreed to pay and he promised to send me a letter with his findings to provide to the homeowners. when I tried to get in touch with them it was very difficult the a guy named Sean started texting me. I asked about the letter and about the charges. initially he was ok with the letter until I asked him to explain the charges at which time he became irate and started sending me threatening texts. and decided not to send me his written assessment. I would never use this company again and would be wary of anyone else using them

I thought it was great until the County Inspector failed it for a whole bunch of code violations. I should have known better and hired a local company which had knowledge of regulations for boat house. I did expect that if I hired an electrician, It would pass code. I was wrong.

Used the all day deal to have a ceiling fan installed in the living room (including add power to the ceiling), several new outlets inside and outside as will as removal of old junction box and outlet from previous renovation. Mike did a great job getting everything on my To-Do list knocked off!!

Robert called when he was enroute and arrived early. Hired him as an electrician for the day. During the day he replaced 2 ceiling fans and replaced 5 outside lights on the porch, garage, and back porch. He replaced a fuse for the ceiling fan, and changed out the front doorbell switch after trouble shooting it. He replaced a smoke detector and he replaced two light fixtures in our bathrooms. After completing all electrical work early, he gladly changed out a faucet in the powder room, and put up new 3-piece bathroom fixtures in all three bathrooms. All in a day's work. Robert was very professional the entire period and only stopped work after his 7 hours were up. Would gladly recommend his proficient and professional service. Terry Reid (Col USMC retired)

I have used Murphy in the past. Their electrician for a day deal is terrific. Mike was on time, polite, professional, knew his stuff, worked hard and cleaned up afterwards. Scheduling him online was a breeze and I highly recommend this company.

Murphy Family Services is an excellent company. I booked 2 appointments to complete the work. Danny arrived on time and completed the work requested. His work was professional and efficient. He explained everything he did and cleaned up after. If you need electrical work, this is the company.

Appointment was made easily online. Danny called to arrive at an earlier time. He was punctual, professional, and did an amazing job removing and replacing a kitchen lighting fixture. We are so thankful for Danny and his great work. We will call again if future repairs are needed. Thank you!

I scheduled the special for a half day of service, and Danny showed up and did a great job! Not only was he very knowledgeable, he did great work and was happy to educate me about the work he was doing! I will hire Murphy Family Services again, and I will request Danny for all of my electric services!

I requested an estimate for replacing a circuit breaker, and they gave me a price and said someone would call me. I never received the call, and when I called them they kept pushing me to make an appointment online. None of their online system options matched the work or price they quoted me, and the individual I talked to on the phone was both rude, did not seem to understand what I was asking and kept referring me to the website. The website kept wanting me to agree to a price without anyone checking to see what the work would be required. None of the above experience gives me any confidence on the quality of their work.

Was a very smooth experience. Out of 3 electricians we called, they actually answered their phone AND showed up the same day. No problems, very courteous. Diagnosed the problem and fixed. Would hire again.

I scheduled an appointment to repair a ceiling fan with Murphy Family services. The appointment was confirmed 1- 1:30 PM. I received a call & text from an employee from Murphy family services that he would be at my house 3:30- 4:00 pm. To be clear, the e-mail confirmation I received stated this was "not an exact time" but rather a block of time. (Morning, midday, afternoon) However, I would consider that gap quite excessive - regardless, the employee never showed up between 3:30 - 4:00 pm. Instead, they showed up around 4:20 PM while I was in the bathroom. I called immediately after using the bathroom and the employee from Murphy Family Services said they would not turnaround even though it was about 5-10 minutes max from when they called my phone. I've attached the text confirming the 3:30 - 4 pm appointment,the e-mail confirmation I received stating 1-1:30 PM, and the foul language used against me as a customer.
