Two guys showed up about 4:45pm, inspected the damage and gave the quote of $350. I did not have a choice but to accept the outrageous price, if not they would charge me $49 for just to show up. They performed work for about 1 hour.
Description of Work: reinstall one piece of trim which was blown off by recent storm, the trim came off.

The technician was prompt. However, this is the first time I had a fall check-up performed on the furnace and an additional charge of $45.50 was charged to clean the flame area. The technician informed me of this upon arrival. I believe the advertised $69.00 for the fall check-up for the furnace is misleading. Also, the technician spent a lot of time trying to convince me of their service agreement of which I was not interested. All in all the service and technician performed its due diligence. Disappointed in the extra charges and sales pitch.

I reached out to Michael & Sons via their website and filled in my contact information so that they could get back to me with an estimate or time to stop by to provide an estimate. I never received a call from them, but did receive one email stating that my number was disconnected from Christina P. I replied to Christina P via email and noted that my number is in working order and that she could call me at that number or email me back to coordinate. I did not receive a response or call back. I wrote a follow-up email asking if the company would be able to assist me and still received no follow-up call or email. Poor customer service in the beginning does not give a good impression of what's to come. I will not be using Michael & Sons mostly due to their lack of responsiveness rather than my dissatisfaction with their quality of service.

They did a good job. I thought they were reasomably priced. They were very late for the arrival. I had to call and check on them when they would come and that was a disappointment. They did arrive on the same day, but outside of the time frame window.

I ended up paying additional costs beyond the coupon as it did not cover what I thought it would. After they left, the A/C unit ended up not working at all. They later reached out to me, but they never got back in contact with me to resolve the problem.

In digging the trench for the propane gas line, the employee severed two PVC pipes that deliver water from the house to two external water spigots. I was responsible to have the pipes repaired for an additional cost of $500. Very importantly, when I was unable to start the generator either automatically or manually some time later, I discovered that the propane gas regulator was installed too far from the generator. There was insufficient pressure of the gas in the line due to the great distance between the regulator and the generator. This information was discerned after I had discussed my dilemma with Generac engineers, and had paid for a second opinion of my problem with another local company whose name was given to me by Generac customer service. Collecting this additional information was prompted when Micheal and Sons refused to finally fix the problem after they had at least two attempts to do so. In short, their workmanship was exceptionally inadequate.
Description of Work: Michael and Sons was selected by me to install a Generac generator that I purchased from Home Depot in November 2006. They were required dig a shallow trench from the propane source to the site where the generator would be installed, a distance of approximately 60 feet. They were also tasked with installing a gas regulator which delivers the propane to the generator. In addition to preparing the ground for the generator, they were required to install an automatic transfer switch adjacent to the breaker/fuse box.

I would not recommend this company to anyone. I had two recent experiences with them, both unsatisfactory in result. First, I had furnace repairs, for which I paid by check the day of the service. I found later that it had also been billed to my credit card, which they had kept on file from a previous visit. They have agreed to process a refund and remove my credit card information from their files, however, there was NO reason my credit card information should have been retained in their files and NO excuse for it being used. Second, before I learned of the double-billing fiasco, I sought to have a toilet replaced, requesting a specific model that had been favorably reviewed. The company never called back to report if they could obtain that toilet -- although the technician did send a thank you card by postal mail. When I talked to them about it, they blamed it on the parts department failing to follow up on the request. Both instances clearly indicate that internal communications at Michael and Son are unreliable. I specifically warn prospective customers that credit-card information, once given, is kept on file and may be used without your authorization.

The plumbing part was great but the electrical part was ok. I am still having some issues with the lights.
Description of Work: They did electrical work and plumbing. There was a problem with the kitchen sink for plumbing; the young man replaced the faucet and also looked around at some other stuff. He also did some plumbing work in one of the bathrooms. They also did some extensive outdoor electrical work. It was pretty extensive outdoor electrical work. I had to call them back twice to make adjustments or to address some issues with the lights not coming on when they were supposed to or not coming on at all.

Every service call was easily scheduled without a long wait time. In each instance the technician called before he came with an arrival estimate. Each technician was polite and careful of my home. I was offered options regarding the work that could be done with no pressure if I said, "no" to a service. Work was completed in a timely fashion and clean up was always good. We also received a follow up phone call and a thank you note from each technician.
Description of Work: Michael & Sons installed our new water heater, unclogged our toilet, installed a new faucet in the bathroom, added a circuit for the microwave, installed a whole house surge protector, replaced an outlet and inspected our air conditioner.

i was rehabbing from a serious illness. My coordination anf thought process was not 100 percent. The techs were patient in answering my questions no matter how trivial or how many times I asked the same question. I truly appreciate the kindness of the HVAC and attic fan techs.
Description of Work: The tech who serviced my HVAC was just absolutely the most professional techn that i have seen for quite awhile. He was timely, courteous and explained what he was doing and what i needed to do now and in the future. I willive care service this winter. ask for the same tech when i have my preventative care service this winter. Even though I didn.t use Angies List I would also like to give kudos to the tech who installed ny attic fan - great job!!!!

Description of Work: The actual coupon was mis leading at least to myself. It stated and ac tune-up and what we recieved was a consultation to buy and overpriced air conditining unit. We were very disappointed with our experience with Michael & Son. We called them because we had lost hot water to our kitchen sink and my (limited) plumbing skills were not sufficient to fix the problem. While their plumber was on time and professional, he did not take long to arrive at his conclusion that our faucet would need to be replaced at a cost of about $650. I ended up asking for a second opinion from another company ( Shreve-McGonegal) and as it turns out, they were able to identify the problem and fix it at a fraction of the cost quoted by Michael and Son, and without needing to replace our faucet. Overall, I felt that Michael & Son's plumber was lazy and did not want to spend the time to identify the possible causes of our faucet's problems which is why I did not agree with his proposed high cost solution to our problem. While their dispatch fee was lower than S-M, I would not use Michael and Son in the future because I do not trust that they have my interests at heart.

We contacted them for estimates on repiping of the whole house, and replacing the fuse box panel by a circuit breaker panel. The plumbing estimate was no charge, but the representive who came seemed more interested in pushing their firm's service contract. If they try to sell that to me after the work is completed it is understandable, but it was a surprise at that moment. The representative told me the office will give me the estimate later. I never heard from them. About 5 weeks later a Michael & Son individual called to inquire, and I told him what happened. He said he would check with the plumbing office. After checking he called me to say they needed to send another person to come, at no charge, to get a new estimate, and I told him not to bother. The cost for the electric estimate was $29. I did get the electric estimate promptly through email. But it was quite a bit more than I expected and I decided to use another contractor.

I discovered my upper-level A/C was not working the morning after the damagaing dorecho storm--either a coincidence or brought about by the power fluctuations and surges I experienced during the storm. I called Michael & Sons shortly after their 8:00 am opening time. They promised they would have someone to look at my A/C "within 24 hours." Less than 4 hours later, the HVAC technician was on his way to my house. Less than 90 minutes after he arrived, my A/C was working again! The technician explained what the problem was, options for fixing (including the price), additional recommendations for service to prevent the problem in the future. As for the additional recommendations, there was no "hard sell" when I declined some of the recommendations. I would use this company in the future, and recommend them to others. I don't know if their prices are high, low, average...I just know it seemed reasonable for the work that was done and the cost of the parts needed to make the repair. And once again my A/C cools wonderfully!
Description of Work: Diagonosed the problem with my non-working A/C, performed the repair, cleaned the both units of the dual-zone system.

I did not use them because my real-estate agent referred me to Rowan Plumbers in Laurel, plus they would work with me financially. I Thanked Michael and Son's for their professionalism and honesty.
Description of Work: Called them at their Maryland office and they had a plumber out within a hour and a half. I had the plumber look at the leak and he agreed with Fred the plumber that it was the condensation line clogged up.

Our sales person was great - very professional - went over everything we needed - gave us two prices (1 if they supplied the generator and 1 if we purchased the generator & had them install it) - advised us of their backorder delays.When it came time (3 months later) to do the install, the generator that we received the bid for was not big enough, so we had to re-start the process. Within a month, we were getting our generator. They pulled the permits and did everything. Very clean, neat, tucked cables under porch overhangs, etc.After our first BIG storm, the generator did not come on (not their fault), and it was VERY difficult to get someone out to service the unit. Service guys were very professional, very apologetic and explained everything. If I had it to do over again, I would more than likely go with them. Update - - - Generator's board fried the first time we needed it - they came and set up a "manual" override - 3rd time used...not good... now we cannot even manually override it and need an entirely new unit. It's not all their fault (it's a Generac unit) but their responsiveness has much to be desired.

1.) I was not told of a Plumbing Dispatch fee = $29.00) They fixed the bib leak outside = $ 376.423) Replaced pipe = $293.164) Snaked drain - $298.40 It took me 3 times to get them to send me a receipt. They do not give you a receipt at the job, they tell you they will email the receipt to you and they don't. It took 2 follow-up calls by me to get a receipt for the job that I just paid $ 996.98. 2) Snake Drain - warranty for 30 days and it can be extended with a camera inspection for a year if you do it within the 30 days. This sounds good ....Right? I had them come back out to do the camera inspection. They told me that they couldn't guarantee the 30 day warranty anymore because they could only go 5ft into the pipe line. They said that it was in very poor condition. They said that there was a severe break in the line. This would be a three day job = $4750.00. 3) Then 45 days later the drain line clogged up even worse than it did before. I called Booze Plumbing to come out and check the pipe line with their camera. At first the camera would only go done the 5ft that Michael's said it would. So, Booze Plumbing snaked it out again. We put the camera down again - this time 25ft and their were no breaks in the pipe line.It looked like Michaels did not go down far enough when they snaked it out. Booze suggested to Jet Spray the line out to insure that everything was clear. Camera, Snaking and Jet Spray = $1300. This is a lot better than tearing up my concrete floor and the bathroom floor for $4750.00. Oh, they also said once they took up the floor that further repairs might be needed = More Cost - Who knows.I wouldn't trust these guys to snake any of my drains again. They did a half-a** job. 4) I have had Booze Plumbing snake out the drains before and it has always lasted at least 2 years not 45 days. The reason I called Michaels that day, because it was an emergency and Booze could not get there that day for me. 5) Booze came out and Jet Sprayed the pipes - 25ft and there were not any breaks or cracks in the pipe line. So, if I had done whatMichaels suggested it would have cost me $4750 and it was unnecessary to do it. I did call Michael's and talked with Vance, a Service Manager there. I wanted to give them the opportunity to explain before Iwrote this review. Vance said that they were wrong and they should have re-snaked it out again, He was going to contact theService guy that did the camera inspection and get back to me. I have not heard from him and it has been over a week now.Vance offered no recourse or refund. Oh, when I told Vance that Booze was going to Jet Spraying the line, he tried to scare me that if they did that..... the pipe line would crack and break. This was false, you can regulate the jet sprayer for the water pressure. Another lie Micahels told me.... They are full of scare tactics. Beware: I have since learned that Michaels Service guys are on commission. This is the reason for the Dispatch Charge. Also,this is the reason the Service guys go for the highest cost to fix the problem. My tenants at this rental property, told me thatbefore they lived in my house they owned a townhouse and Michael's charged them $800 for a toilet replacement. You can geta toilet at Home Depot for $100. Michaels is a rip off..... my advice is to call a smaller company like Booze Plumbing. They arefamily owned and you can actually talk with the owner. They are not on commission and will do the job at a reasonable priceand not try to overcharge you for the work.

I asked for an appointment and gauranteed the electrician would be out at 3:30pm. I was later told that is not true by another representative and I should expect a call anywhere between 2-6pm. The electrician was amazing, but the administrative staff seem to have trouble understanding that I cannot keep me and a realestate professional and my wife just waiting for 4+ hours. The electrician did an inspection and replaced a deficient wiring installed by the previous contractor. The cost was more than I was originally quoted of $40.00 So the price is way over, but I am glad the electrician fixed the GFCI and gave us the inspection information. I called them multiple times after 3:30 as I had not heard from them till 5pm and they said they would defiently be there before 6, and I had told them that they were holding up the final peice of my home inspection from being completed so I can buy the place (which I had originally told the first lady that stated they would be out there at 3:30pm). I really needed them earlier so I could get the information back to the lender. I feel that the electrician was excellent, but the administrative people in the office could use a lesson in manners and courtesy to new customers to keep them for the future. I listed I would use them again, but its debatable and I would only use them again if no one else is available. I am sure they will respond and state they gave me a time range, but I know for a fact that I was originally told that they would be out there at 3:30pm and they were not able to actually to hold to their original time. The inspection and fixing of the one outlet took a hour and half. If a individual makes an appointment you are expected to keep it, but if a company that appears not to care about their customers makes an appointment they can be like the cable companies and just give you such a wide range of time that you have to take off work to just sit around and hope they show and not know if they are coming or not.

Michael and sons is the contractor that Home Depot uses in Silver Spring. I needed a new toilet installed and made arrangements with Home Depot to have it installed. Kenny of Michael and sons arrived earlier than expected (after first calling and asking if earlier was ok--which it was).Within in hour Kenny had taken out the old (and not without some effort), and installed a new toilet. Very impressed with Kenny's professionalism, his personal interaction and as a result would be happy to have Michael and Son back for more work, (especially if all the employees are like Kenny). Thanks for the good work.
