I think they do a fairly good job. Unfortunately, the repair didn’t work, but they did not guarantee the work would complete the repair. We had them complete the repair based on them hoping the repair would work. I do think they are pricy for the remodel. They were courteous and they did their job.

Their prices were in the ballpark of other installers. We didn’t like where they wanted to install the generator. They also suggested we have additional work done with a gas line. After having the gas company look into it, they suggested a different process. We decided not to use them for the work. When we have hired them for electrical work, everything has went well.

In the past they have replaced a heat pump for us and everything was professional. This was probably a fluke but an expensive one for me. It took them four days to return the second time because they were booked up while we sometimes had water.
Description of Work: Took them two trips to find the electrical problem at $500.00/trip. Charged a second $29.00 trip charge for the second trip as they misdiagnosed the problem the first time. Then they charged an additional $180.00 to work in the crawl space because it was a "difficult area".

Our family had a horrible experience with this company. We experienced: -A sliding schedule - they moved the installment date at least twice. On the second time, there was no call. We called them because no one showed up and were told that they were not going to be able to install that day and rescheduled for the next week. -Continuously rescheduled appointments (on their part) - at least 3 times -Unreturned phone calls and general unresponsiveness - I called on several occasions and left messages. I would wait about three days and then call again to get a response. -Missed appointments with no notice -Lack of communication with our family -Lack of communication between their own departments. I would ask questions, get transferred, and have the new person have no idea what was going on or the history of our account. I would get conflicting information from different representatives and have to call back to pursue my question, referencing prior conversations and messages which were not passed along or added to our file for informational purposes. -Inability to procure the permits needed in a timely manner, inability to communicate the process. I had to call after the installation of the generator to ask about what would happen next with the inspection and refill of the trench that was dug to accommodate the buried lines. It took three calls and weeks to get the answer, which included them getting a permit, which I assumed they had in their possession at the time of the installation. -It took them a month to refill the trench in the backyard and when they did, it was unsatisfactory and had to refilled again professionally. Because the generator is new, to be fair I do not know the quality, nor did I rate the price. The cost for the generator was around $12,000. I do know that, overall, it was a terrible experience and I would not recommend this company to a friend or neighbor. For that price, I expected more from this company. They were unresponsive, unprofessional, and generally difficult to deal with. The process took a lot longer and was much more of a hassle than I'm sure it would have been with another company.

Do get other bids, you will earn more than you thought you needed to know. This project was successful in their hands from the beginning to the end.
Description of Work: Julian came out to analyze our needs for a new ac- we had 2 other bids with analysis. Julian's evaluation of our needs, compatibility of various options, was far and away superior to the other bids. He realized- as the others did not- that a new ac should be otherwise linked to our existing system and the right model etc were all suggested. We were very glad to work with him on planning timing and the work to be done. The guys- phil and evan- came out as planned to do the work and did an exceptional job. Punctual, tidy, efficient and pleasant. The experience was positive in every way and we had a more professional dialogue than with the others who were more salesmen than technically qualified.

We are selling our home and had something electrical come up on the home inspection. I called Michael and Sons and they were able to come out the next day to take a look, give an estimate, and make repairs. First I received an e-mail with a picture of the person who would be showing up at my door. Being a woman at home alone this was a nice feature for me. Second the tech was friendly and polite. He took a look at the home inspection report, examined the subpanel and quickly gave an estimate to complete the work. Third, he was completed the work quickly and was on his way. He e-mailed me the invoice so everything was completely paperless, which I also appreciated. Overall everything went very well. I was really happy with Michael and Sons and would definitely use them again.

Didn't go well because they were not available to proform it
Description of Work: I have been a customer of this company for two years they have been to my house three times. The last time in December of 2012 technicians snaked the toilet in our guest bathroom. Last Saturday I called to make another appointment because the toilet in the guest bathroom had stopped up again. The representative on the phone made a deal of telling me how they were going to way to of $29 since it was a problem that they had dealt with previously. On Monday, April 1 I got another call from the dispatcher, this time telling me that they would have to charge me the dispach fee because the warranty on the December 2012 snaking had expired. I just love when a company charges you for the pleasure of doing business with them. S yesterday I hurried home to make sure that I was at the house waiting for the technician by 2 PM I waited until 6 PM. Which was when the service window expired. I got another call from the dispatch center at 6:01 PM yesterday and told them that I was getting another plumbing company to resolve my issue I am particularly disappointed because I had been a loyal customer and was completely taken for granted on this occasion. I see the commercials every day specifically where the owner talks about how he and his staff did everything they can to make it right. No attempt was made to make it right in my case. Their slogan if you can't we can. But something tells me that if they can't show up on time they can't and won't be allowed to ever work again in my house. I will never call Michael and son again. My time is at least as valuable as their technician

The coils had not been cleaned and it shortened the life of the unit. They come when they say they will and do the work. They're very professional and all wear uniforms and use shoe covers.

The Moen faucet they put in only had a one year manufacturer's warranty, but after two years it had problems. Michael & Son's covered it under their personal warranty. They repaired it for me for free. They're very honest and fair.

Overall I am satisfied with the job. I got a deal on one of Angie's list big deals for $136 recaulking an entire bathroom. However, when I called to arrange the appointment they had not heard of the deal. After checking all was well and scheduling was a breeze. But, When the guy came out to do the work he is not been made aware of the deal and I ended up having to email it to him. They also mentioned a service fee which was not Mentioned in the fine print of deal. However after showing them the deal they remove the fee and caulked the shower just fine. All in all - happy. But, a hassle as to be expected getting such a good price. One other gripe - the deal stated recaulking the entire bathroom (mentioning toilet, sink, etc) but when i got home to see the work they had not touched anything but the base of shower stall. My wife didn't know to ask. Such is life. Overall, happy with the price paid for services rendered.

I was shopping around different companies for quotes to fix or replace my Rheem heat pump and contacted Michael & Sons because they were rated as one of the top HVAC contractors on the Rheem website. The system is a Prestige Series heat pump still under parts warranty and the compressor failed. I told them I wanted two quotes: one to fix the system and one to replace the system. They happily set me up for a sales appointment for the following day. I asked about fixing the compressor under warranty and was told that the part is very expensive and it is better to replace the system. I again reminded them that the part was covered under warranty and I am interested in repairing the existing system. This raised a red flag because they were all too willing to sell me a new system rather than replace a part under warranty. I again said that I wanted a quote for repairs as well and the salesperson said that they would provide options with replacing the entire system. Once again I said I specifically wanted a quote for a repair so he set up an appointment for the same day for a technician. Later the salesperson called back stating that they could not perform a heat pump diagnostic when it is below 50 degrees because they have to test the air conditioner output. However, the sales person can still provide me options and they set an appointment for a diagnostic at a later time. I asked why they could not run a diagnostic and the salesperson said that it has to be a certain temperature to test the air conditioner. I was confused; since the compressor is not working I don?t understand how they can test the air conditioner output. I asked him if they can?t diagnose a system when it is less than 50 degrees, does that mean they don't run diagnostics during the winter for fixing heat pumps? Again, the salesperson said that it depends. This raised even more red flags and I immediately canceled the sales appointment. Since this company was my second quote, I had already had another company run a diagnostic test and the temperature was below 50. I am not a technician and don't know how true the reason for not being able to run a diagnostic test but the answer just did not make any since. I believe that had I replaced my system with Michael & Sons, I would have had good things to say about the service and install. However, I feel that they would rather push an expensive sale than repair a system that should only be repaired. This indicates a level of dishonesty and they immediately lost my trust and business. There are a lot of highly rated HVAC companies in the area and I am sure I will find one that holds the customers interest above a quick commission.

We called Michael & Sons when we wanted to upgrade some electrical ?situations? in our 1960s-era house. Michael & Sons sent an electrician named Joey D. over. In addition to being capable and efficient---he was cheerful and friendly too. He put booties over his shoes when he entered our house, and he even brought his own mat to wipe his shoes on! Joey was able to upgrade every ?situation? we had. Joey gave us an accurate estimate for each task, and then got straight to work---he was finished in short order. He explained everything while he worked, so we were not surprised by anything crazy found under the drywall. He was able to run wires quickly and he was tidy. And best of all, everything works. We?re very happy with the work he did!

BEWARE!!! I felt that it was my responsibility to the AL community to share this story. Decide for yourself whether you have time and nerves to deal with such cases. We move on. Thanks God for AL where we can find better companies! We were using Michael and Son for 15 years. They started as an electrical company and were excellent indeed. Then they started expanding. Pleased with their electrical dpt. we tried handymen - awful!, followed by their plumbing - awful! We kept on staying loyal to their electrical dpt. Except for somewhat higher prices they were good, although not exceptional. Some technicians were really highly professional, some - not so. Our last experience will be our last with this company. And this is why: I first requested to 1. put up back a chandelier which was taken down for repairs, 2.to trouble shot a recessed fixture, and 3. to disconnect an old trash compactor to cap the wires in case they were still with current. The prices Oscar, their technician came up with were: $183; $194, and $86 respectively. I decided that the recessed light was not important enough to spend almost $200 on troubleshooting it, so I told the technician to go ahead with the first job, and to disconnect the compactor when he is done hanging the chandelier. After finally having put the chandelier up, Oscar called me to the kitchen and informed me that it would now cost me $194 rather than $86 to take care of the compactor. I asked him to show the price in his pricing book, but he insisted that since there were only two jobs, the price was supposed to be higher. I tried to explain to him that I am familiar with the company's prices, but he refused to go back to the original proposal. I simply paid for the only job he performed (see above), and sent him away. Two phone calls and an e-mail later, I learned that this Oscar indeed tried to bill me more than he was supposed to. Every additional job is $86. The response of the customer service was that "Oscar is still learning the tablet system and appeared to hit the wrong pricing while trying to price your concerns." (?!) I learned later that the founder of the business passed on his business to his son not so long ago...
Description of Work: A chandelier was put up in its place. Simply put up and connected to the existing wires. Cost: $183.33 plus $29 for the service call. Total: $212.33

Contacted company to have a 630 sq ft one bedroom condo's walls and ceilings repainted and carpet taken out to leave parquet flooring after a move out. Technician visited one time and promised an estimate shortly. This was on a Friday. On Monday, I called and was promised an estimate Tuesday. On Tuesday, I called and was promised an estimate Wednesday. It was finally delivered via email on Thursday, and to my dismay the price was utterly ridiculous. Their estimate is for $9250; the next contractor I spoke to, who gave me an estimate on the spot, estimated $2000. Overall a terrible experience and my time was wasted.

I was given a service window of 10 AM to 2 PM. Service Tech Sean Eversburg called at 10, said he would be there in 15 minutes. He showed up on time, was professional, neat and thorough in his inspection of the furnace and the breaker box. I was not pressured to buy additional parts or services as I have with my previous AC/Heating company. I would definately call this company in the future.
Description of Work: The circuit breaker for the furnace would not reset. Service Tech checked the furnace and the circuit breaker, determined the breaker needed replacement and performed the service in a timely manner.

The technician was very friendly and covered his shoes. He did the work quickly and replaced the tubing. He worked on the project for about ten minutes and was in my home for a total of 45 minutes. He put in new copper tubing on the back of the refrigerator and wrote up a bill. I was shocked to see that the bill was so high. I called the supervisor to inquire about this problem. He explained that the technician was highly skilled and that plumbing and copper is expensive. When I inquired with Home Depot about how much that amount of copper tubing would cost they said around $30. The supervisor at Michael and Son told me that I would hear from someone higher up within 24 hours but I have yet to.
Description of Work: I had a technician advise me that they needed to replace the water line between the ice maker and refrigerator. I called Michael and Son to do the work because I had seen their advertisements.

Experience was good, although the dispatch thought I needed a plumber instead of electrician for the switch in the kitchen, but the tech was able to find a electrician for me, and once the electrician came the same day he was done in 10 minutes and even sent my family a thank you card. Very good service, even covered their boots walking on my floors.

It was an excellent experience working with Michael and Son. Toan Vo inspected our system earlier this week and gave us a thorough estimate, and he scheduled the work for just a few days later. We were very impressed by the timeliness and quality of their work. It is a shame we had to pay a contractor to finished the shoddy work originally done by our builder, but this was money well spent. Now, we are confident that we will enjoy the benefit of our new high efficency heating and cooling system. We will use Michael and Son again and recommend them to others.
Description of Work: The heating & AC duct work in our 1999 townhome was improperly installed by the builder during original construction; during recent duct cleaning by another company, we discovered that our home builder used shoddy workmanship when connecting the ducts and sealing the seams. As a result of the poor work by the builder on the duct work, when we recently installed a new air handler and heat pump system, we did not achieve the expected energy savings and efficiency. We hired Michaels to seal approximately 8 duct seams and ensure the system was appropriately connected and sealed and as efficient as possible. Toan Vo and Ryan Hguyen of Micheal and Sons spent about 2 hours realigning the ducts and sealing the seams with new tape. They also went above and beyond by removing a great deal of trash and debri our builder had left behind; obviously the builder cut corners and didn't even remove sheet rock remanants, unused pieces of insulation, and building material garbage.
