The service was good. i was pleased with their service. They were always on time and professional. If they're going to be late, they will tell me ahead of time.

Memorable experience... just not a good one. I called on a Sunday to get someone out on Monday. They were responsive and punctual. That’s where it all falls apart. The tech showed up and explained that they would charge ~$2300 to replace a standard 50 gal water heater. That’s 2/3 the cost of an “on demand” system. I declined and was asked for my CC. When I asked why, I was told that they have to charge a “trip fee”. Keep in mind: they performed no work and only showed up to supply a quote for a replacement heater. I obliged as it was not the tech who sets their policies. I called in to have the charges removed. I spoke to a supervisor who said they would call me back after reviewing my initial call. He did not call back and I had to call in again. When I disputed the charge and explained the unreasonable quote, I was met with a sales pitch on how their water heaters are superior. The supervisor trash talked other brands (such as AO Smith - Lowe’s) and explained that he was an expert. They sell State water heaters btw. Well, guess who owns State. AO Smith. He then told me he would have the service supervisor call me which he did. However, he offered the same line and wouldn’t issue a refund. I am perfectly fine with paying for services rendered. However, in this case, NO work was done and they kept my money on the premise that “all other companies do the same thing”. As I found out, they don’t. I will never do business with Michael and Son again!!! For my plumbing needs (in Tidewater), I’ll “ Tell ‘em Kellam”! Kellam Mechanical provided top notch/professional service and didn’t want an astronomical price for a water heater replacement. Oh, and no BS fees or surcharges like the thieves at Michael and Son. I’m sure they’ll reply with, “we informed you of the charge when you called”. And they may have. But when your standing in a growing puddle of water in your home, your biggest concern should be getting someone out. Not being taken advantage of by a business with, in my opinion, unethical practices.

The service itself is fine. The were professional enough. However, the cost of this service is exorbitant. I can't imagine paying $550 to replace a faucet and under-the-sink pipe. I will NEVER use them again.

I had a service appointment on Feb. 28, 2019, for two problems: limited hot water in one shower and cloudy water coming from the kitchen faucet most of the time (also impacting the dishwasher--ie, I can't use the faucet or dishwasher for safe and sanitary cooking or cleaning). The technician fixed the shower, but said he could not identify the problem with the water (which was not cloudy at the time of the appointment) without first taking a water sample and having it run. He opined that it was a water quality issue and needed to be filtered--confirming that it is not safe to use the kitchen faucet or dishwasher (same pipe) until it was fixed. It is April 15 and I have been unable to get an answer from anyone or have anyone come back out to fix the problem. I have emailed and called, and nothing. No explanation of the test results, no follow-up. Highly disappointed. Now I will have to start over with a new company, two months later, so that I can soon start using the water in my kitchen for cooking and cleaning. For someone who cooks often, this has been a nightmare, and it is ruining everything that goes through the dishwasher with the film and residue left behind. I do not recommend this company. Regarding the shower, he was called for an evaluation and estimate, and began fixing the issue without authorization. The cost seemed very high for the repair work, and my landlord wanted to get a few estimates before proceedings with repairs. The technician didn't provide that option. I was ultimately happy to have the shower fixed, but overall not good service.

Our gas furnace suddenly stopped running. We had a good idea from the behavior that it was a seized blower inducer motor. The technician from Michael and Sons showed up and spent nearly an hour putting sensor electrodes on other circuit boards and the thermostat before finally looking at the motor, and eventually agreeing with us. That cost $170. Then the company wanted $700 to replace the motor, which can be bought on Amazon for $75.00. In addition they wanted another $700 to replace the fan circuit board, which had not been a problem. Total: $1700. We did not use them for the repair, which is vastly overpriced and they wanted to do unnecessary work. Further, their technician was not very experienced. He said he had only worked in HVAC for 4 years. He may be decent at clipping electrodes to wires to detect voltage, but not at diagnosing older equipment.

Cody and Kyle Mikkola came to install a new sump pump in our home recently. They were very communicative about being a little late because they had to stop for parts. When they arrived, they were extremely professional and courteous and did a very thorough job. Their service was top-notch. They discussed the project with us thoroughly beforehand and were diligent about cleanup and removal. We are extremely happy with the work that they did and would not hesitate to call them again should we require future projects. Thank you Cody and Kyle!

My husband and I recently moved into our new row home and had a circuit issue in the master bedroom. We resent the breaker box and (accidentally, not knowing what we did) hit a button that turned off that circuit when flipping the switch to reset it. I called Michael and Sons Electric and the woman on the phone told me it would be 65 dollars to come out but the money would be applied to the cost estimate of the issue. I called to make the appointment but was not able to be at home so my husband was there to meet the electrician. Not only did the electrician not tell us the cost upfront, he saw that the switch only needed to be flipped back which addressed the issue. There was no tests run, nothing. He charged my husband 230 dollars for less than 15 min of being there. When I called Michael and Sons back, I got the run around 3 separate times when trying to understand why it was 230 dollars and every time I was told 3 separate things.

Horrible experience!!! Not only did they misdiagnose my problem. They scammed me into buying some home protection for my AC unit and still my AC problem was not fixed. THIS IS THE WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER COME ACROSS. NOT ONLY DID THEY NOT FIX MY AC SYSTEM, THEY MISDIAGNOSED MY ISSUE AND STILL WANTED TO CHARGE ME FOR IT. THEIR OFFICE WORKER JOMAR UNTALAN SPOKE TO ME OVER THE PHONE IN THE MOST DISRESPECTFUL WAY EVER. I HAVE NEVER BEEN VERBALLY ABUSED BY A “CUSTOMER REPRESENTATIVE IN MY LIFE” HE SCREAMED AT ME AND THREATENED TO SEND ME TO COLLECTIONS OVER SOMETHING THAT WAS THEIR FAULT. THIS MAN NEEDS TO BE REPRIMANDED. I AM A GM FOR A LOCAL COMPANY AND IF ANY OF MY EMPLOYEES SPOKE TO OUR CLIENTS THE WAY THIS MAN (JOMAR UNTALAN) SPOKE TO ME OVER THE PHONE THEY WOULD BE FIRED. DO NOT HIRE THESE GUYS. They had previously done some work on our house circuit panel under the previous homeowner, replacing a circuit breakers and doing some rewiring. After the circuit breaker failed and the panel filled with water, I called them because their work is (supposedly) under warranty. Of the two workers who arrived, only one spoke English. He couldn't tell me anything about the problem other than "Water and electricity is like, really bad. You should replace everything". He replaced the one failed circuit breaker and then told me that the warranty didn't apply because I couldn't prove that the failed circuit breaker was the same one that they had replaced before. Because the panel is mislabeled, to boot). Then they charged me about $500 (for changing a $20 part!). What a scam! Don't bother with this company, the only things these "electricians" know how to do is plug things in and charge ridiculous prices.

The electrician that showed up was nothing but rude, unprofessional and with an attitude. They were late to the appt. I had to drive over 2 hours to get there as we were trying to sell our house and needed something fixed. I contacted their HQs on 3 different times and requested that a manager/supervisor would call me so I could let them know about our situation and every single time I was told that somebody would call me within 24 hours. That never happened and last time I called the person that I was speaking with seemed to not care at all. He wanted to charge over $200 just to place some electrical tape over a wire that had sparked, and when confronted about the amount he stated " DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH IT COST ME JUST TO DRIVE MY TRUCK HERE". We had to pay for the service call which was about $100 or so I WILL NEVER USE THE AND RECCOMEND THAT YOU DONT USE THEM.

The Michael & Son technician came over right away shortly after I called. He quickly took a look, took off the handle & solved the problem, said the handle was getting worn & not grabbing the valve stem --done.

The technician inspected the furnace and said the whistling is normal and just live with it despite online forums saying it can be addressed and complaints from my guests since the noise keeps them from sleeping. The technician spent more time instead trying to get me to pay for a maintenance plan. What a waste of money.

Their work is good, their service is the worst!! I had appointments for my annual inspection between 12-4. AFTER 4 they called to reschedule. OK, stuff happens. We rescheduled for today between 12-4. I called and was told I was next up at noon. It is almost 5PM and I am still waiting!! I should charge them my hourly rate for the time I have wasted. It is really too bad, because their technicians are generally good, but their service makes them undesireable

The electrician was prompt, always had shoe covers on, was polite, asked my opinion and listened to placement of devices, finished by end of day.

It went ok but they are very expensive and the tech quoted me $199.00 to unhook my dishwasher, which is absurd. I had it done by someone else and it took them all of 2 minutes and it cost me under $50.00. I will not use this company again.

I would like to start with my apologies for the length of this review but I needed to get all of the information down. We have recently purchased a new home. The house did not have a washer and dryer so we needed to make this purchase. When the washer was delivered a leak in the shut-off valves was discovered when the valves were opened. I decided it best to have a plumber take a look and complete the repair on the valves. My wife was home for this repair. I was unable to make the meeting, so she met the plumber. The plumber came in and started with a quote of over $800.00 to replace two leaking shut-off valves. My wife thought that I should talk to the plumber and called me at work. After discussing with the plumber, he stated that the proposed repair was to cut a one foot square in my wall, cut the existing pipes, solder new sections of pipes onto the freshly cut existing ones that had shut-off valves already installed onto the end of them. I explained to him, over the phone, that the process of replacing the shut off valve was to unscrew the old valve from the pipe and screw a new valve onto the old pipe. No soldering was required in this approach and no hole would need to be cut. My solution would only take between 15-30 minutes to complete as to the three hour process he was proposing and should cost less than $300.00 for a plumber to complete. He explained that it was not possible to simply replace the shutoff valves as they were too old (my house was built in the 80s). I had him hand the phone back to my wife and told her that the call was hers as I was done dealing with this guy and ready to tell him to get out of our house. She stated that she would rather have it fixed now and the repair was started. About 30 minutes later, I received another call from my wife stating that the plumber was able to repair just the shut-off valve without cutting the wall. He did this by replacing only the shut-off valves. I asked her if she could see any dripping from the valves when they were opened and she replied that she was unable to verify as the hoses were not attached and that “installing” the washing machine was going to cost $300.00. I told her to hand the phone off to the plumber. I asked him how he was going to verify that his work was completed without screwing the hoses back onto the shutoff valves. He replied that the valves are not leaking and that the water to the house was turned back on. My reply was that the old valves did not leak when they were closed either. We only discovered the leak after the hoses were attached and the valves were opened. I told him that I did not want the washer “installed” but I did want him to check his work by attaching the hoses and opening the valves. I was talking to my wife while this was completed to verify that there were no more issues. She verified that the shut-off valves were not leaking so the payment was processed. When I got home, I took a look to see the finished product and noticed that the plumber screwed the hot lead to the cold supply and vice versa. I also noted that he neglected to replace the housing around the supply lines. It has been four business days since this repair and I have yet to receive a receipt for the work completed and documentation of what I paid. If you made it to the end of this review, you understand that there is no way I will ever call Michael and Son for any work in the future. I hope that my review has given you insight into Michael and Son and you decide the same.

He came to quote me on installing a new gas line for my stove. The price was higher than I was expecting so I declined any services. He did not charge me for the quote, but was supposed to be 60 dollars. Tech was named Steve and was very nice. I will call for future services.

The price was way out of line. Wanted 425 to install and parts. Average price I checked on-line was 195.00 - 225 I'm not paying for their commercials!! M Franco

It went well for a week, but then the lighting stopped working again, even after the bulb/sensor were replaced. I may have to contact them again to re-check the wiring.

On the day of service I was called an hour before appointment time and of course, I was outside. I check the phone, just in case they have called and I had just missed them. I immediately returned the call and was told I needed to reschedule because I don’t answer the call when it was made by them. I was also told that they would not have time to complete my project and their next call was an emergency. I probably would not have been so annoyed if it had occurred at noon. My entire day was wasted for a service that was to occur between noon and 4 pm. I feel there was no regard for me, my time nor my home. Needless to say, I hired another company.

It went really well. I would call them back any day.

Electrician basically told us he didn’t want to do the work and to go elsewhere. The upselling was a little ridiculous for how small the jobs were. The jobs we wanted to get done he wasn’t interested in doing. Nice enough guy, but clearly not wanting to complete the work- made us hesitant to go ahead with the quote. Plumber was responsive and competent, but pricing again was laughable for small jobs we could do on our own- they quote “lifetime warranty” and tried upselling again. We chose to have them only complete our urgent work at this time and will go with another company for the rest of the work. We are a busy household and were alluded by the convenience of going with one company, but the extreme cost and pushing sale tactics were too much to feel comfortable using them.

Although all of the technicians have been very pleasant to deal with, they have so far been unable to repair the malfunctioning BRAND NEW unit — even after coming to our house SIX times. Each time, we have to take off of work to wait for the “window” of between 4 and 12 hours long. The real problem, though, is the management and customer service — or lack thereof. Our issue has been “elevated” to a manager more times than we can count — each time with the promise that a manager would call us. No manager has ever called us, at least not until we posted a totally honest negative review. We finally got in touch with the owner of the company who promised to call. Guess what — he didn’t. We have asked that the brand new unit, which is under warranty, be replaced with a new unit. The company owner told us he won’t replace it because it is too much trouble for the company to deal with the warranty. It’s hard to imagine worse customer service.

Too expensive. Also, do not sign up for their Home Care Agreement. I cancelled my Home Care Agreement in July of 2017 and I am still getting charged for it every month since. I have contacted them a million times to get it resolved and it still has not been resolved. Do not use them. Also had a leak under my shower and it took 4 plumbers to figure it out. Three walls damaged, a ceiling damaged and 4 pipes fixed and it still didn't fix the leak. And I was the one to figure out the final solution. All we needed was caulk around the shower base. Waste of money and time!

I attempted to obtain an estimate initially through Angie's list. After a few messages I was told to call them. Since I wasn't able to call at the time I provided additional information and received a response "Please call xxx-xxx-xxxx". So I call and I get an automated message saying my household may be eligible for services. It was ridiculous. I pushed one button to answer a question and my household qualifies! Whoop dee do! I hung up and wrote this review. I don't have time for a service provider who wants to redirect me to an automated service to sell me stuff I have no interest in.
