The technician was great, unfortunately he did not work on oil furnaces, the tech that did was on vacation, so i took a day off of work for this and had to take another day off for the next appointment. I asked how many technicians do they have that work on oil furnaces i was told 1 so i switched service companies. That was great because the people who made the appointment new that the tech was not qualified to service my furnace but sent him out anyway and when i wanted to buy the service contract they called my house and asked for the tech because he needed to go to his next service call. I would not have ever joined Angie's list but because of this experience that happened that happened over 3 years ago it still makes me mad. I looked through the yellow pages for a company that i could use over and over and came upon the "Micheal and son story" well it is a story that stinks. I called to reschedule my appointment and told them why and i was literally laughed at and when i emailed the owner he didn't call and i was told he was out of the country buying a new sign for the company. This is my story about a father and son "sticky and sweet" like the one in the yellow pages- "Well son we got taken advantage again by another local company get used to it '" I only joined Angie"s list just so i could post this. Micheal and son's is a typical out for themselves company.

The HVAC tech, Jay arrived on time and inspected the two units and made necessary adjustments. He was quick, professional and we will use them again.

We called Michael & Son?s to get a quote to replace our two outside faucets. We were initially scheduled for a Thursday but, thanks to a last minute cancellation, our appointment was moved to Tuesday. James, the plumber, arrived on time and had a quote ready in less than 15 minutes. The price was very reasonable and it was decided on the spot to move forward with the work. (Thinking that we would need to schedule the work, we were surprised and pleased when he said that he could start immediately.) The house was built in 1968 and presented a few challenges such as paneling covering the area behind the faucet. But James was able to negotiate this by cutting only a small portion without having to remove dry wall etc. Now, instead of ancient faucets that were hard to turn and one that was broken and leaking, we have state-of-the-art faucets that are easy to turn on and off (thanks to James? recommendation of the two types of faucets he thought would work best and allowing us to choose). Most importantly, during the installation, James noticed two small indoor leaks that -- if not detected then -- could have resulted in thousands of dollars of damage. He reviewed our options and provided a quote and made the necessary repairs. After all the work was done, he walked me through what had been done and demonstrated how to use the various cut-off valves. James was extremely professional and he is an excellent representative for your company. We will definitely use Michael & Son?s for future projects and will specifically ask for James if we have another plumbing project.

Although they repaired the unit, when it died two days later, they refunded the cost of the repair and replaced our unit within three days

Ricardo came over and was very thorough in looking over every part of the house we pointed out to him. He was patient and answered all our questions. We were given estimates on every step of the process. I felt very comfortable with the estimate and his expertise.

The representative from Michaels and Sons, called before arrival and arrived within the window. He was polite, curteous and quick! He was unable to install the original new hot water heater as he noticed it had a ding and didn't want to give us damaged hardware. He ended up having to drive well over an hour (one way) to get a new unblemished water heater. He did a great job and we really appreciate the hard work and dedication!

The team did a good job cleaning decades worth of dust from our duct work. The guys were careful removing grills and grates and cleaned up completely when they left. Thanks guys!

We woke up on a Saturday morning, facing a 90 degree day, with no functioning air conditioning. After contacting six other companies, Michael & Son was the only one to, not only pick up the phone, but schedule a technician to come to my home and fix the problem. Edwin performed the service and was absolutely great. He performed a diagnosis, made two different recommendations from which I could choose, and fixed the problem. I have an older unit and the same problem occurred a couple of years ago but it was Edwin who suggested some additional fixes to help extend the life of my old unit. Kudos to this company for using real people to answer their phones, determine it was "emergency" but not use that as an excuse to over charge, and providing a timely, professional technician who, in my opinion, went above and beyond to help extend the life of my unit.

Lead Technician was very knowledgable with the type of Boiler I had and provided repair options vs replacement options. Technician was very patient and wanted to ensure that I was comfortable to understand my options and that I was satisfied that he answered all my questions. I greatly appreciated he advise me to contact him if I had any further questions later on.

They did a pretty good job but the only problem with them is that they charge 3 times higher than anyone else. They advertise heavily in the area. It’s a family-owned business. They came on time and did the service in under an hour. There was a time I asked them to do a review of the plumbing fixtures in the place, see if there’s anything unusual because they’re running pretty slow. So that was a call beyond the call of duty. The reason they’re expensive is probably because they also put a camera there and make sure that it is really in fact clogged. Unfortunately, he was not able to offer a warranty which they normally do for things for 90 days because he says he couldn’t see anything. But he did the job cleanly and they cleaned up after the work. They did a pretty good job. I have nothing to complain about them. A month later, there was another clog and this was in the area that they couldn’t fish out because it’s slightly above the area they did do. I don’t know if this is related or not but maybe in hindsight I should have asked them to check the whole system and not just where the clog is. Their prices are almost double than if you were in Virginia and I’m in Maryland. The reason is Maryland passed a law that says even sewer work has to be done by a licensed plumber.

They did an electrical outlet for my stove. They also put in a new breaker box. It went very well. I would recommend them to others.

A/C broke on one of the hottest days. Michael and Sons worked to find me an opening and the repairman was great. He was very honest with me- told me it could be one of two things- one would be pricey the other not so bad. Thank God is was the not so bad. He was great. Told me what to look out for in the future.

This service went very well. Both the plumber and the electrician were very prompt, communicated well and new what they were doing. Their customer service department are also very nice, prompt and very experienced. They were able to get our plumbing issues fixed as well as install our new outlet quickly so that we could hook up our new appliances. The only pause I have is with the pricing. To me, it seemed a little high however I have nothing to compare it to. I would still not hesitate to use this company again and actually have plans to have them install and wire 2 new fans in a week or two. Their prices might be a little high in my opinion but they are certainly not unfair.

This was a Sunday evening call. Phone was answered promptly and stated someone would call within the hour. Tech was there within the hour. Took a look, provided me with his estimate and began work. The only hitch -- I would encourage everyone to definitely review the estimate before signing. I had to have a toilet replaced. Michael & Sons price for a toilet was $800. I asked the tech if I purchased a toilet elsewhere, would he install it. He agreed of course, emphasizing all the while that Michael & Son would only guarantee the installation and not the toilet. I made it in the door before Lowes closed and purchased a toilet at a much lower cost and it was installed. A few days later, I thought I saw moisture on some still-exposed pipes and the tech came back out for a second look (at no cost) and explained very carefully why the pipes appeared to be wet. I would definitely use Michael & Sons' plumbing division again and would recommend them.

Terrible. I had used Michael and son for many projects over the years, but their service has declined. They rescheduled my appt 3 times but didn't notify me until the end of the day (when I had already taken off from work) that they wouldn't be able to make it. After the second time this happened for the same job, I called the manager but he was apathetic. They offered me a small discount for having to cancel the first time, but couldn't do anything more. I ended up calling another plumbing company and so happy that I did because they charged me $1000 less! I am now grateful for this experience because I had no idea how much they gouge their prices.

We have a contract with Michael & Son, so we are charged less for service. One of our toilets needed to be replaced, so we asked them to do it. They were punctual as usual, and they did a good, professional job of installation and removal I reviewed the bill when we needed to replace another toilet. Overcharging is NOT what I call proffesional. Michael and Son charged us $802 for a toilet that we have just bought from Lowe's (also a Cimmaron elongated) for under $250. The installation by M&S was just $60, which is more than the $99 by Lowes, but that $60 is no where near as expensive as a year's service contract with M&S. I can't imagine that M&S has to pay as much as we need to pay for hardware, so the $500 difference is inexcusable!

Ron R. came out and started the trouble shooting but first I asked him to check the breaker just incase it was faulty. He did and it was not that. He had to investigate every outlet on the circuit to determine where it was. It was not even in the basement as thought. The series of outlets led to our upstairs family room. The outlet was a floor one and it had a metal outlet box. A screw came in contact with the box and shorted out the whole series. Ron said the outlet should have been taped with electrical tape He placed the screw in the outlet since the outlet was still good. He was very thorough and charged up a set fee for the work. He was here for about 1 hour or so. It seemed expensive, but the job was done right and we are back in business.

Had Michael and Sons out to look at the water heater -- had hot water but only for 10 minutes at a time. Provider showed up -- told him the problem. He didn't even bother to look at the unit -- said fixing it would cost a lot and didn't guarantee that it would work. Sold me a new Water Heater for a huge markup -- over $2000 for it plus installation. Made a lot of talk about how it had to be tied into the well filtration system -- well of course it does. I don't know why I didn't just kick him out at that point, but he was there, I was home and I didn't feel like going through the whole process again with another provider. I definitely felt had.

Nobody else charges money for an estimate but they charge money for an estimate. First they came and did some work on the house. The people that came out are rather on the cold side, they weren't really nice. They sent me a card in the mail afterwards saying that they would like to come out.

I would never use them again. Everything was miss-represented and I got into a big argument with them and they had to get managers and they must have 18 administrators there, because I kept getting calls from different so-called managers. They obviously are a huge company, but they way overcharged for stuff. They miss-led me on what they were saying the prices were, etcetera. So I said I will never work with them again. They wanted to charge me $1400 and my expectation was that I was going to be charged for about $600.

They were very efficient. They had 4 men who were very good workers. All four worked straight from 10am to 9pm. They explained everything very well. I was very impressed. I would highly recommend them.

The plumber is a nice guy. Showed up 45 minutes late but it's Sunday and 9pm so I am not going to count this against him. The prices oh the prices. I am definitely paying for the convenience of him having a fully stocked truck with everything I need to fix my water heater and water valve problems. I do wish the prices were a lot more reasonable but all in all for what I'm paying and the time and day it could of been a lot worse than what it is. Price aside the plumber is super courteous and hasn't even mentioned the time if day nor complained once about the small space or job at hand.

Shortly after the renovation of my master bathroom by another company, the new toilet began to flush incompletely, requiring more than one flush, and not filling back up appropriately. At times it would back up. At times the quality of the flush seemed related to whether or not the shower in the master bathroom was on. Eventually I called Kroehler, the maker of the toilet, thinking the toilet was to blame for the poor performance. Their customer service dept. told me to have the toilet line snaked and to check the exhaust pipe on the roof for anything interfering with its function. On 8/24/09, another plumber snaked the new toilet. That night, the problem returned. It got progressively worse, involving the shower drain in the master bath. On 10/8/09, Michael and Son plumbers snaked out the master bath toilet, we thought, all the way down the ?main branch,? 65 feet. Several days later, the problem was back, including now the toilet in the other bathroom in the upstairs of my house, and the bathtub in that bathroom. Michael and Son had recommended a camera investigation of the pipes, and they did this at some point between 10/8 and 10/20, at no cost to me. What they found led them to believe that the only solution was to remove all the drain piping for the 2 bathrooms and replace it, though they were still not sure of the exact nature of the problem. By this time, both my upstairs bathrooms were completely unusable; our only recourse was the powder room on the first floor. On 10/20, Michael and Son removed all the drain piping for the two bathrooms and replaced them. In the removed pipes, they found substantial amounts of concrete and grout, apparently sufficient to cause the blockages that we had been experiencing. This solved the problem completely.

The estimate visit went fine, but the price was way out of my league. They quoted a full main line replacement, but all I needed was an emergency repair since I knew the location of the underground leak.

That worked out very well. We're very pleased with that. They did a quick, very professional job.
