The company is very thorough I had an outside hose leak.It was repaired. It went well. Further inspection led to other problems which were repaired. A list of recommendations was left for future consideration.

I will be happy to have Michael and Sons return to my home to provide work in the future. They provide me excellent service in a timely manner, left my home in an order fashion, and the repair person communicated very well in a timely manner.

I called to have someone come give an estimate for some handyman work and was told they had an opening for Friday the 25th and it would be 49.00 to give an estimate. I told him we already had an apt on that day could we do the following Friday since that is when they are in our area. He then tells me it would be a 99.00 service charge for an estimate if I want a different day than the 25th. I really hate when you are charged for an estimate an while I understand that amount is taken off my bill if I use the company I find being charged more for a different day unreasonable. Part of what I hate about a lot of businesses in this area Northern VA they have NO customer service!!! This company will probably be off my list for any other projects we have for the future as well.

He quoted a price, which I felt was very high considering the amount of work and the fact that we were supplying all the pieces. He completed the work in couple hours. He cleaned up very well after himself. In cutting the hole for the sink, he made a very small nick in the countertop, so he discounted the job by 10%, which was acceptable to me. The quality of work was excellent and the sink, faucet and garbage disposal all work very well.

If you need a drain unclogged on a holiday or weekend, call Michael and Son and ask if Eric Moss is working. He did an amazing job and even reassured my kids that this was not going to stop them from having a great Easter. I like that the dispatcher clearly explained the pricing to me and made it clear that I could decline the service if I wanted. We called 6 different plumbers and got a wide variety of prices (some don't give prices at all). Since it was a holiday on a weekend we knew it was not going to be an inexpensive call and were prepared for that. With a larger company like this one thought they schedule someone to work knowing that someone will need them. Other companies (smaller) just have someone "on call". Eric did the job better than right the first time, arrived promptly and cleaned up thoroughly. We would certainly use Michael and Son again.

The picture hanging was good. The marble was polished but not sealed. The caulking job was terrible. They did provide a one year warranty so I called to get it redone. The man came to relook at it and said they used the wrong materials and would redo the work. They sent me several notices for me to provide my credit card info, which I called about since it was warranty work. They told me to ignore the notices and reconfirmed my appt. Then, the night before the appt, they called again to confirm the appt. They never showed up for the appt. When I called them, they told me I didn't have an appt that day. Then they told me they were short staffed and their computer system was down.

My email l requesting services was answered promptly. I responded promptly but it took a second email before I received a call to set up an appointment for an estimate. I was asked how I heard about Michael and Son's - my response, "Angie's List." I was then told someone works in my area on Friday's only. After setting up the appointment I was asked there would be a $49 estimate fee because I had never done business with them before. Since I have two others giving me an estimate at no charge to me, I declined these services. I suggest this fee be discussed or communicated up front in the company info or at the beginning of the contact process so no one wastes their time. I don't think I would have minded the fee as much if the money would have gone towards paying for the work when it was done, but considering my first estimate was in the neighborhood of $10K this company either has more work than they can handle or they just don't want to come out to NOVA from DC.

We have used Michael and Sons for a variety of things in our house. They are professional, knowledgeable and well priced. They also don't try to sell you stuff you don't need. We have NEVER had a bad experience with any of their technicians. I highly recommend them.

Service was good once technician arrived. We spent more time on the phone trying to arrange the appointment than was spent making the repair. We kept getting transferred among schedulers who asked the same questions every time before passing ou to someone else. They were late to the estimate appointment. They asked for an alternate umber and then insisted on calling the alternate number before calling the primary nuber to schedule their arrival time!

We'd had some concerns about the electrical systems in our new house; we were worried about some faulty connections and peculiar wiring that we discovered after we'd moved in. Brent Mullins was our technician, and he answered our questions and performed repairs on the spot. We had experienced problems in our previous house because of power surges, so Brent recommended a central surge protector system for our new place. He was able to install the system quickly and with no inconvenience to us. Brent is quite knowledgeable and conversant on a wide variety of electrical topics, and we feel both relieved and confident that our house is better protected from electrical problems. Based on his responsiveness and professionalism, we agreed to choose Michael and Sons for our initial one-year electrical and plumbing service contract.

Called set up an appointment for my plumbing work. Told they would be there between 12 and 4 Never showed up. Got a call about 4:45 from the Tech who said he just got the text from the office to come to my house. I told him to forget it since we needed to leave at this point in the day. He said someone would get back to me, no one ever did...I I never will again! Thanks for wasting my day and you welcome for losing what is turning out to be a $3500 job. Just saw that I left this post, thought I should update...Got a call after this post from a Michael and Son customer service rep who did convince me to let them have a second chance,...OK I let them come out and give me an estimate only if they would give me a discount for the issues I had previous. So they came out and after about one week I did get the estimate...It was over $16,000 but they would discount $1,000 for the problems earlier, WHAT A JOKE and very insulting, The work got done by another excellent and well resected service provider, for about $4500.

I like them because after a month or so I called them because there was something leaking and they repaired it without charging me. The sump pump spout was too close to wall, and water seeped in. They’re very good and I liked that hey gave a free estimate.

My hvac system is circa 2000 and is probably on its way out but as long as it is repairable I will fix until I have to replace. I will be scheduling future service for airduct and dryer vent cleaning with Michael and Sons. Jack was professional and courteous and also gave me tips on keeping my hvac working well that I could do. I was very impressed.

It went very well. The technicians were very professional. They cleaned up after themselves. I was very pleased with their work.

Communications with Michael & Son were extremely problematic from start to finish, and soured the entire job. I only proceeded with the work because I was anxious given a couple of episodes of CO leakage in my basement associated with my old water heater. When James came out for the estimate, he told me that everything would be done in one day and could be completed the following week, both of which were my priority. He did not explain that I needed to hire a separate contractor to do chimney work. He only told me to call another person about this work and he gave me a phone number -- I had no indication that the technician did not work for Michael & Son. While I later realized that the chimney work was not on my cost estimate, it didn't dawn on me that I would be paying another contractor separately for this work, so the job cost another $1k beyond the Michale & Son estimate. No good. James also mentioned that I needed a state inspection after the work was completed. That was fine, and since he said that "everything can be done in one day," I understood that to mean that the inspector would also come on the day of the work. This of course did not happen, and was no issue, but again demonstrated the disaster of communication all around. On the day of the work, the team arrived leisurely late morning. They were very professional and got everything done very efficiently and neatly. I was pleased. They told me that they would contact the chimney guy, who would complete his work in the afternoon. I waited and waited. No call, no contractor. At 4:45pm on Friday I called Michael & Son to find out when to expect this technician. They had to call me back, and when they did, they said that nobody was available that afternoon. I would have to wait until Monday. This was totally contrary to what I was sold. At every turn, from when I got the quote to when the Michael & Sons team finished their installation, I was assured that the chimney technician would be coming out the same day. Michael & Sons did not take this commitment seriously, and took no real responsibility to follow through. Worse, it was only then that I realized that the technician I was waiting for did not even work for them, and was not a subcontractor -- that I was responsible to pay him separately. I felt deceived at the time, but don't believe that all of this was intentional -- still, at a minimum I was misled because they were not transparent and forthright in explaining things. They took no ownership of the chimney issue, and when I called James directly, he did not even call me back. He just passed it off to the chimney technician to schedule his visit. There was never any follow-up on all the miscommunications and the broken commitment. I am very dissatisfied because I know that I paid a premium that I would normally not pay for speedy and quality service that I did not receive. Fortunately, the water heater is in place working fine, as is the chimney.

The salesman was good at selling the products but when I asked about a different product, he bad-mouthed the other products. He also had a habit of coming in and trying to selling me additional things, like the hot water heater and air conditioner unit. He said a lot of negative things and he kept trying to tack on additional sales. He didn't have a lot of science behind what he was saying. His estimate for the boiler was higher, too.

I bought the unit at Home Depot and they came out and installed it. I liked their responsiveness. I liked that they can do anything. You have to know, when you have them come to do something it's going to be expensive. The work is great.

Our experience exceeded expectations, as Carlo and Jorge were willing and able to answer all of our questions in a manner we could understand. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive to our home's needs. I would certainly use their services again.

As part of their twice per year service agreement with me someone should have check the smoke alerts (maybe, it was my fault to ask them if they had check or watch them to make sure it was checked). A buzzing sound went on all night and the next day I called. First, I am told that someone came and I did not picked up the phone, then the person was right at the door, then it took 30 minutes for the person to get there as I had to call and find how where is this person who was standing at the front door. He came in and said the smoke detectors need to be replaced. I asked how much and was quote over $400.00 so I went onto Home Depot website and noticed they was $49.95 each he told me it did not make any difference if I went out and get them because his fee was $160.00 to remove and put a new smoke alarm back in place. I am thinking that it was because of wiring issues but it took him less than 10 minutes to replaced both smoke detectors.

It was fine. I didn't have a problem.

The one thing I did not appreciate was they tried to sell me many additional services and appliances that we did not need. While checking my furnace and electricity in our overall contract check, they tried to sell us more products, as well.

We have used M&S for many household projects. Always on time, courteous and perform quality work. The recent visit was a plumbing/electrical assessment provided as part of the service contract. We request Harry Limaylla, he does superb electrical work.

Although I had accidentally clicked the wrong button and confused everyone, Michael & Son was very flexible and accomodating. They thought they were coming to to clean gutters, while I thought they were coming to clean windows. They quickly changed gears and did a great job of cleaning - including wiping out window frames which I requested. I will definitely ask them to do my windows again!

Nicely done, courteous service, and the new circuit has worked flawlessly for the past year. Michael and Son is probably not the cheapest firm, but their service is fantastic.
