The current hot water heater finally failed which resulted in a flooded basement. We contacted Michael and son, explained the situation and requested an estimate. The technician, Victor G. arrived on time, assessed the situation and advised that he could replace the water heater that day, which he did. He also went above and beyond and cleared a clogged floor drain, which was not included in the agreed contract. Victor also took the time to give a training lesson on how to adjust the temperature of the water heater. His workmanship, I noted, was excellent.

The maintenance went OK. Except the worker had to replace a part involved with the pilot light. Unfortunately he did not put it on correctly and had to return twice to finally get the problem fixed --- the light kept going out and we had to keep relighting it again. It worked fine after that but it was a bit inconvenient.

Terrible contractor. Estimator refused to include my specifications to paint the molding on the bid, because he claimed it was standard and was not necessary to list it. Later they failed to paint the molding, because they said it was not listed on the bid. They only painted the walls. It took an extra day for them to come back and paint the molding. They also added cost at the end of the job for upgraded paint that I had requested up front because they had not written it on the bid, even though I asked them to write it on the bid. Lesson learned: Hand write specs on your bid before you sign it, if t hey don't list everything that you asked for. Otherwise they won't do it, or they will charge more for it. I should have added the upgraded paint to the bid sheet and I should have written on the bid that the job was to include base molding and crown molding.

The technicians showed up on time and were very professional. They checked my unit and recommended that the AC unit be cleaned. Originally I had wanted to get a better idea of what options I had to get better air flow to areas of my home but they did not give me many suggestions or quotes on that work other than installing a ceiling fan. The work they did was good, the technicians were very professional, but the price was a little high.

Horrible horrible horrible! I contacted Michael & Son's handyman department for a quote to come and fix our leaky roof that had leaked into our garage ceiling and ruined a 5x8' section of drywall. They took a couple days before they could come out to do the estimate. Hamid never got on the roof to see what was causing the leak or anything, just from the ground and in our crawl space above the garage (where our master bedroom's closet has a crawl space). He quoted a price to fix the leak's flashing and a bunch of singles and then all the drywall and painting. I signed the contract and gave a deposit check for $2124.00 This quote was given on 5/9/14 I called my insurance company later that afternoon to see what could be covered. They said that quote was way out of range and that they would like me to get more quotes and they would be sending their adjuster out to verify what needed to be done, so I immediately called Michael & Son once I got off the phone with my insurance company. It was *just* after hours on a Friday afternoon, so I left a message to cancel. I called again the following morning and spoke to Brittney, who said she would let her supervisor know we had cancelled. The original estimator, Hamid, called me again on Monday to verify the cancellation and ask why. I told him they were too expensive and my insurance wanted more quotes. So he went ahead and processed the cancellation and said they would send the check back. However, my check was deposited and cashed on Tuesday 5/13. I called again to say the check had cashed and I wanted my refund. Brittney again said the folder was in accounting and I should hear back from them immediately or by the morning of Tuesday 5/20. Brittney finally called back the afternoon of 5/20 to say the check would be refunded. After 2 more calls to Brittney, I finally got to Elizabeth who spoke to Emmanuel in accounting who swore up and down the check had be mailed on 5/24. By Tuesday 5/29, I had still not received the check (I gave them time because of the Memorial Day holiday). I called again and spoke to Emmanuel directly and again he swore up and down it had been cut on 5/23 and mailed on 5/24. I threatened legal action if I didn't receive it by Monday 6/2 then ended the call. Emmanuel called back about 5 minutes later to verify my address. Curiously, the refund check arrived today, Monday 6/2/14. The check itself was dated 5/23, but that could have been retroactively dated, so I'm not even considering that as the real date. The envelope was dated May 30th on their postage machine and postmarked May 31st by the post office. I find it to be a BIG COINCIDENCE that the postmark date coincided with my threat of legal action. Their contract states the customer has 3 days from the contract date to cancel and that M&S has 3 days from cancellation to refund any deposits or money paid. This transaction to TWENTY days to resolve and I was told a bunch of lies in the process. That's VERY bad form in my book! I took a photo of the postmarks on the unopened envelope as proof, but am unable to post it here. We've had M&S do other work for us, but recently, we've noticed their services are WAY overpriced. We recently paid almost $900 for plumbing services where they only replaced a broken garbage disposal (with a standard replacement that costs $90 on Amazon) and installed a replacement faucet that we had bought elsewhere so it was a labor only charge. WAY too much for what was done.

Michael & Son are very responsive. I think they are good, nothing was cheap or free, but I think you get what you pay for and I am happy with it.

A salesman (Glenn) came out to our home on May 9 and gave us a few reasonable options for replacing our heating and cooling system. We chose what worked best for our home and budget and they sent installers (Colt and Chris) out the following Tuesday. They were professional and efficient. They wouldn't even let me open the door for them to bring in equipment! I barely knew they were in the house. Chris was very helpful with explaining the thermostat. It was overall a smooth experience and I'm very glad to have working a/c, I would definitely recommend their services to everyone.

I was facing the prospect of not being able to use the pool during Memorial Day weekend because of an electrical failure. I had called a few other companies and was told that appointments were not available until the following week. The person answering the phone was extremely nice and understanding and was able to send a technician on the same day of my call. The technicians were punctual, polite and knowledgeable. Overall a great experience!

From the moment I discovered Michael & Son, my experience with them has been amazing. My call was responded to by Sandra who couldn't have been nicer. She listened to my problems and made suggestions on how they could be resolved. She referred me to both the electrician and the plumber. She explained the service charges and dispatch fees and even waived them for the second second service. It was a pleasure talking to her. The electrician arrived Thursday, on time with a pleasant welcome. When I opened the door to let him in, I was greeted by a colorful welcome mat from Michael & Son! What a wonderful surprise! Nicholas was the technician and from the moment he arrived, I felt I was in good hands. He put protective coverings over his shoes which made me feel that he respected my home. He got to work immediately and upon discovering each problem, explained it to me and what he was going to do to fix it. The electrical panel that I purchased a few years ago was not giving me power in the lower level of the house and the doorbell didn't operate. After isolating the problem, Nicholas showed it to me and how he was going to fix. He added a surge protector to the house and made suggestions on troubleshooting before calling for service by tagging my equipment with little reminders. He sold me on the benefits of the Home Care agreement and told me it included a HVAC checkup that had not been done in years. All in all, I had a very professional, yet personable experience with Michael & Son. I told everyone I talked to yesterday about my experience and will definitely recommend and use the services again. Within an hour after he left, I received a call from Michael & Son, thanking me for my business and asking if I was satisfied with everything. Moments later, i received a call to schedule my HVAC 24-point checkup. What a professional organization!

Used Michael and Son Services (Northern VA) for the 1st time today and I will most certainly use them again if I need plumbing done. Scott was punctual in timing, quick and knowledgeable about the job, more than willing to explain the process, all around courteous and very professional.

Tried to fix current garbage disposal - said motor was shot - provided and put in Home Depot $80 special (InSinkErator Badger 5 1/2 HP Continuous Feed Garbage Disposal) - charged 7 times the cost of the disposal for installation. No idea if this is within a typical range - but seems like highway robbery. Don't use Michael and Sons unless you are certain what needs to be done and get price quotes from a few providers over the phone.

They handled the job well, were there on time and did what they had to do. They were expensive, but they fixed the problems and I haven't had a problem since. They clean up well, and I liked the way they put booties on their shoes when they walked in to take care of my floors That's just their norm. They also explained everything thoroughly in terms I could understand.

Well. He explained the issues. Took steps to address our immediate issue, installed a surge protector on our box, which needed to be done and also provided an estimate of additional work to improve the overall system. Finding the issue took time and was not easy, but he worked hard, was very nice and very professional.

He showed up on time and went straight to work. He provided us with a safer toilet see than what we were currently using for free.

The technician arrived at the time he said he would. We explained what we wanted done and he completed the work the same day. He was very efficient and explained what he was doing if we questioned him about anything. He put in the receptacles we requested in the kitchen and completed the deck area GFCI receptacles within a few hours. Great work. We would use Michael & Son again.

My first exposure to Michael and Son was when Brent Mullins came to address several electrical issues. He was prompt and professional. We took a quick look at each of the areas to be addressed and then he got to work. We ran into an issue with one of the light fixtures so he returned the next day to complete the job. He left the areas clean and tidy. After he was finished, he talked to me about their Home Care Agreement. Typically, I am not interested in these offers; however, he explained the reduced cost for the work he had already performed, which almost covered the cost of the agreement. In addition, they perform an inspection on all systems -- Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC - and, then most of repairs after that are covered at no cost. It sounded like a good deal and I decided to sign up. About a week later, I had a problem with my air conditioner (only 2 years old, and installed by another company). Michael and Son sent Tim Lee to check things out. He advised me to replace the air filter, and he performed a chemical cleaning on the outside unit. Things worked for a week or so and then I had the same problem. Another technician was sent out, and he added freon. Again, the unit worked fine for about a week ... then the same issue. Tim Lee came out this time and determined that the fan motor on the outside unit needed replacement ... about an $800 part. He ordered it and within a few days he was back to install it ... at no cost, since I had purchased the Home Care Agreement. Now that deal is looking really good!!! Tim is very personable and has taken the initiative to get a book about Lennox systems so he will be up-to-speed if another issue arises. We also had a plumbing inspection performed. So, any issues that arise in that area should be covered under the Home Care Agreement. I am extremely please with Michael and Son, with regard to scheduling, response to my needs, and the professionalism of the staff and technicians. I highly recommend Michael and Son to care for all of your home systems.

More money than expected to pay, but overall they did well.

My initial experience was not good because the plumber didn't show up in the four hour window I was given and I was not told that they would call a half-hour ahead of time. I wasted half a day sitting at home for someone who never showed up; despite my calling the dispatch to ensure he was still coming. I had to take another day off work. Not a good start. The plumbing work was done professionally, quickly, and (I believe) at a reasonable price by Shane. He answered all my plumbing questions and also gave me good advice on adding a lint catcher to the outflow pipe of the washer. Additionally, he very graciously helped affix an outflow pipe from our dishwasher in the sink to a better location for no additional charge. The plumbing work has been successful for my laundry room and I am happy with the work done. Things took longer than was estimated, but I suppose when you rip open a wall you never know how long things will actually take.

I had a good experience with Michael & Son Services Inc in the plumbing department, so decided to get an estimate on drywalling the laundry back to its original state. The estimate they provided me was THREE times higher than the winning bid, 300% inflation makes me wonder if they have no idea what they are doing, or if they were trying to take us for a ride. Unacceptable. Buyer beware and do some price shopping, but not with these guys. Guess they have to pay for all the ads on TV somehow!

They were sensationally competent, did what we asked and even checked some other things for us.

The plumber came the next day and worked very hard to remove the clog in the main sewer pipe of the home. He was very courteous and though the job ended up taking much longer than originally planned did not charge me extra. After that the excavation (I think) team came the next day to remove the damaged carpet and the lower portion of the wet walls. The company communicated directly with the insurance company to help me file the claim for the portions that the insurance covered. As a whole they were much better than the company that came the prior year and the snaked the pipe with a camera as part of the service to determine what the issue is. I was very happy with the service and though not cheap they did not charge me extra for the extra time they spent. I paid $680 for the sewer pipe snaking & camera and $500 insurance deductible for the restoration cleanup. The insurance paid another $1,500 for the restoration cleanup.

Removal of the old units was a big messy job and the very complex installation took an entire day. They showed up early and when they left there was not a spec of evidence that they had been here, except for a very beautiful installation with every wire and pipe neatly installed. The furnace is so quiet you can't hear it running.

I am very displeased with how Michael & Son Servicesdealt with me. I have dealt with Michael & Son Services several times and the way they did me in after the technician promised me that someone would come here and build the circuit breaker box and I wouldn't have to go through a lot of calling in and out, calling back and forth, so, I am very displeased with Michael & Son Services with the way they handled the situation. They say in their advertisements on TV that they have the Handy Man services in their company but when we asked for it and they said that they can't come into our neighbourhood. The technician said that it was no problem to come to us but when we called to set-up an appointment...... then there was a problem. I last spoke to them about a month ago.They didn't tell me how much the work would cost.They sent people out to me who could not speak English. One technician could not speak English at all and the other was speaking broken English to do the work of the circuit breaker. The one who could speak a little English had a phone call going for over an hour and he was speaking Spanish and he couldn't communicate with me. If I can help it then I would never use them.

A team of two arrived early during the time frame we were given. They provided the cost of each service on our wish list on the spot. We stuck with the most pressing needs for the moment, but know exactly what the others will cost when we decide to go ahead with them. At all times they were considerate of us and our home--putting down a doormat and wearing booties to avoid carrying dirt into the house and cleaning up after the work was completed. We were very satisfied with their service.

They have been very good. They have been very professional. I have now had them a few times through the other store when I purchased items. They have come to install it. I guess the price would be reasonable. I think the plumbing services were high. I thought they were very competent. They did the job well.
