Description of Work: The service was good, but too expensive

Description of Work: Michael and Sons were responsive to my request for installing a generator; however, I had to cancel the request, because it was going to cost me an additional $5K to $10K by Washington Gas, to change my gas line. Michael and Sons were very understanding about my cancellation and immediately reimbursed me for the check I'd provided to secure the installation of a generator. They indicated that they understood, as I was not the first customer that cancelled my request due to the price Washington Gas was charging to install a new gas line. I would highly recommend this company.

Description of Work: I had a plumbing appointment for 5:00 on December 6 for which no one from Michael and Son showed up. When I called to find out when they would be there, I was told it might be as late a mid-night because they were running late. When I said this was unacceptable, I was put on hold to wait for better arrangements to be made. I was then disconnected. When I called back, the person I talked to thought my experience was funny and began to laugh out loud on the phone. At that point, I cancelled the appointment and told them that if any one from the company showed up at my house I would not answer the door. I then want to pick my wife up from work and out to dinner. While at dinner I got a call from the plumber stating that he was on his way to my house. I told him not to bother and to talk to his schedulers because they clearly did not have a clue about his schedule and availability. I subsequently made arrangements to have the work done by Cropp and Medcalf who did a very good job. I can recommend them without reservation

Description of Work: I recently wrote a review on Michael and Son which was not very good. They called me immediately the next day inquiring what the problem was. Their prices to me were very unreasonable. Their customer service manager whose mane was Vance called me multiple times and offered to come and give me a second quote. He was extremely nice and professional and even gave me a refund. 1-I give Vance A for professionalism and he clearly went out of his way to correct the problem 2-It seems that they do care about their customers since they contacted me many times. So credit should be given when it is due.

Description of Work: Our pasture water pump was leaking from the ground. I called Michael & Son because they advertise servicing pumps. Their response was fast but their estimate appeared very high--$1,150--plus they could not do the repair untill the following week. I told them I will get a second opinion/estimate for the repair and called BELL PUMP & WELL. They came the next afternoon, gave an estimate WHICH WAS NEARLY HALF that of Michael & Son--$610.00-- and repaired/replaced the pump within 2 hrs the same day! Consumers beware: you'll be paying for all those TV ads, shiny trucks, and fancy estimates when you call Michael & Son.

Description of Work: Good experience. Came same day I called. Kept me informed about arrival time. Put shoe covers on and cleaned up any mess. Said problem with our refrigerator/freezer was due to loose wiring, not bad circuit board. Friendly, knowledgable repairman. A bit pricey, but would use again.

Description of Work: Called for Emergency service.....water was pouring out of pressure valve. Was told normal service call would be from 10 to 12. This was at 7:30 am. I told her I needed someone ASAP or if no one could come I would call another company. She said she would get some one quickly. Initially I could not shut off the main water but after 2 hours was able to turn water off. Plumber finally arrived 4 hours later. My basement would have been destroyed had I not bailed gallons of water for 3 hours. The work done was done quickly and the tech was very professional but their prices are high. Will look for other options in the future.

Description of Work: They were supposed to come out to give us an estimate for a big job (new AC/heating unit for an entire house) and gave us a window from 12-4. Dispatcher called us at 3:40 saying tech would be here in 20 mins. It's now an hour later, at 4:30, and no one has arrived. Not only did we waste an entire afternoon, but we have no estimate to show for it. If they can't give me an estimate on time, why would I choose to give my money to these folks for any job?

Description of Work: Worker arrived on time, very professional. Replaced shower head with hose-type shower head, looked at 2 other jobs which needed to be done-a leaky pipe in a bathtub which needed fixing and a gas line which neded to be re-routed. The estimate for the gas line was $850 which my husband pronounced as "ridiculous".The company never got back to me either that day or any other day about the leaky pipe, and I feel we paid too much for the 15 minute shower head job. The company charges for estimates which not everyone does.I initially gave them an A rating, but am changing it to C due to over-pricing and lack of follow-up which is bad business and unprofessional

Description of Work: They snaked out two sinks and repaired a leak under the sink. They changed two fixtures for us as well.

Description of Work: My AC wouldn't work, I just bought a new condo. I called Michael and Sons, they said they had a special for servicing. They came at the correct time. Upon arrival he turned the Ac unit on looked at it- didn't touch anything and said there was no way to even look at what the problem was because of the space the hvac unit was in. I was told it would be $400.00 to move the water heater and another $1,000.00 to just look at what the problem was. I asked if he knew how old the unit was, he said there was no way to tell because of the tight space. He then proceeded to give me an estimate of $3,616 to fix what he said was most likly a motor issue and said he honestly would suggest I replace the unit altogether since it would be $1,400.00 just to see what the problem was and because he suspected the unit to be old. The estimate for a new hvac system was $6,212. Fortunatly, the temperature was cool for the next week or two so I got other estimates. The two people that came after Michael and Sons opened the unit in all of two seconds. It opens right in the front, not the back as I was previously told and the age is clearly visible-if you know what your looking for. I paid the second repairman $400.00 and the unit runs great. Although time got away from me, I so highly want to warn people of my story. I was panicking at the thought of paying $6,200+ after just having closed on my new home. I was looking into personal loans, home equity loans ect and the fact that they were going to charge me $1,400.00 just to look at the unit is horrifying. Please get a second estimate if you ever have dealings with this company.

Description of Work: Service man came out to my house to replace a water heater. He was approx. 3 hrs. late. He told me I needed a permit to have the heater installed and a drip pan, both of which were county mandated. When it came time to sell my house, it would not pass home inspection without this. County inspector came and and told me both items were unnecessary as the county I live in did not require a permit or drip pan. This company will rob you blind if you let them. I did get a refund but wish they were honest in the first place. Plus, I paid way too much for the water heater but as my old one was leaking, I did not take time to shop around. Plus, I'm a woman living by myself, guess they thought they could "pull one over on me".
