Description of Work: Micheal & Son rep called me on originally scheduled date to reschedule due to snow. The plumber came to my home on Saturday, which was convenient for me. He was friendly and professional, and the cost to snake the kitchen drain was reasonable.

Description of Work: Sevice call on the whole house humidifier they had just serviced in December 2014. In December they installed a new water filter...was supposed to be labor as mitigation of failing to install toilets properly in October 2014. Bill for December service was $258....$159 for water filter and $89 for a new water panel. Called and asked and was told those were both labor charges. When technician called to get my credit card numbers for February service guess what...another $258 charge. Technician told me it was $89 for the service call and $159 FOR A NEW WATER FILTER. MICHAEL AND SONS ARE LIARS!!!

Description of Work: I have used Michael and Sons on several occasions. The last time was to fix several water pipes located outside/inside of my home. In my opinion Michael and Sons does excellent work.

Description of Work: They were called for a plumbing problem, but they were almost twice as expensive as their competitors. I paid for the service call, but used someone else.

Description of Work: Fixed faucet. Tried to sell service contract for furnace. Wasn't approved due to condition of furnace and then had some difficulty getting refund. Very expensive.

Description of Work: The process of installing our whole house generator took much longer than expected. The initial sales rep was very professional, the concrete slab was poured in a timely fashion and the extra gas meter was installed by the gas company. The original technician (installer) was not professional in action or appearance. With proper scheduling and coordination the entire installation should have taken 2 - 3 weeks to complete. Our process began 2/13/13 and was finally completed on 8/29/13. Between the electrical inspector initially failing the work to that date and getting Michael & Sons back in to fix the problems noted by the inspector I was ready to call consumer protection and the better business bureau. On 8/27/13 the department head called and extended our service contract for two extra years free of charge. On 8/29/13 the project passed all inspections. To date we have had no problems with the system.

Description of Work: Provided estimate | |Estimate was $1,000 to correct a problem with two toilets. They told me what was wrong and I purchased the parts for $10 and installed them with no tools in ten minutes. Also involved a dripping shower which I saw replaced in 30 minutes, the part cost $30.

Description of Work: Annual Heat pump check-up of the Heat Pump system they installed 1 year earlier. The technicians then and now were very professional and courteous and did the work as promised on the date scheduled. Michael & Sons are my Heat Pump guys from now on.

Description of Work: Installed a backup generator and transfer switch. We scheduled this work right after hurricane Sandy struck the northeast and it caused a major delay in product availability and subsequent installation. Unfortunately, the installation was a major source of aggravation. The technicians they sent to install were rude and unwilling to do things the way I expected them to be done (e.g., they wanted to tear up the ceiling in a finished basement to run the gas line instead of running it underground and outside the house). Then it failed Fairfax County inspection and it took two subsequent inspections to pass. At that point I sent an email to the owner and finally got some good response and service. So based on the final response and service I'm willing to give them an overall "B".

Description of Work: Snaked out main sewer line in the house. They were able to clear the line so water no longer backed into the house.

Description of Work: We had a slow but persistent interior water pipe leak in a very inaccessible place behind ceiling panels. They not only got to it with minimum disruption but checked the length of the pipe and found two more places that had weakened and were also starting to leak that were not yet visible below. Fixed it all in short order at reasonable price, discussed everything before working, and cleaned up fully. Not the lowest cost provider, but among the best. Very satisfied.

Description of Work: I was getting estimated cost on installation of whole house generator. The serviceman was knowledgeable but the company tries too hard to sell more than you want. The only way to get a discount was by purchasing a service agreement for my heat and AC which has nothing to do with a generator purchase but would cause me to use more of their services. I believe it is a good company that I might use at some other time but be wary of the sales pitch.

Description of Work: I have the annual contract, so it was scheduled maintenance. They are very good and professional. Always punctual and provide thorough explanations of what they are doing.

Description of Work: I asked Woodburners fireplace store for someone who could help me get a fireplace blower repaired and they said Michael and sons did all their instillation. On Jan 9 a repair man came and couldn't find the blower. $139 just to look. He was here for about an hour looking. Talked to manager regarding fan not found. |Had a more experienced technician come a week later. Found blower but electric was problem fireplace repairman not qualified for electrical repair. So waiting on electrician this Friday. |Initial repair man called to update time of arrival 3 times. Window for repair was 1-4. Repair man didn't make it until 6( or something close to this). More experienced repairman came within 8-12 time frame. Took 15 minutes to determine electrician was needed. No charge for 2nd fireplace repairman. More still to come. Overall Michael and sons responsive and wants to help problem solve. I also appreciate that they call before they come to give you estimated time of arrival and call to update if workman is late.

Description of Work: Had lots of electrical rewiring done on 20+ year old house. Fixed fuses and repaired outlets. Put in new accented lighting. |Also had plumbing done by another division of Micheal and Sons. Sump installed with lots of accessory work done. Excellent job.
