Description of Work: Our power went off and the box sizzled when the circuit breakers were reset. We called Michael and Sons and they said they could come out that night! We were told there would be a $89.00 emergency service charge which seemed fine so we arranged for them to come out. When the men arrived 3 hours later we were told that the $89.00 was in addition to a $200 trouble shooting fee! They would not look at the box until we agreed to the additional fee. If that had been explained from the beginning we probably would have been OK with it. At 10 at night without any power it seemed very unprofessional. We were desperate so we agreed. The electrician soon told us the entire box needed to be replaced and it would be about $4600 and take the men 5 hours or so but they could start immediately. As that was far more than we were expecting and it seemed inadvisable to be doing that much electrical work in the rain and dark, we decided to wait and get a second opinion. At that point we were advised that the $200 trouble shooting charge would be lost and we would be charged again if we decided to do the work the next morning. Really? Not a happy customer that night... We got a second opinion for far less than their quoted price , it was the main circuit and not the whole box which needed replacement,and will not be calling Michael and Sons again!

Description of Work: I thought I had a pipe burst due to freezing, so a plumber put in a new shut off valve on the pipe. It turns out the seal around the commode was broken; much less expensive, but the toilet was so old that it could not be replaced. So I ended up buying a new toilet as well. Personable plumber but I would rather have found out the news about the seal first.

Description of Work: Based on review of two other certified HVAC technicians, it was discovered that Michael & Son Services failed to properly install an Amana Heat Pump System in my mobile home in December 2009. I have proof in pictures and write-ups. Because the system was not installed according to recommendation of manufacturer, I had numerous system failures. Michael & Son Services refused to come out and check their own workmanship without wanting to charge me for such services. Better Business Bureau closed the case without Michael & Son addressing, in my opinion, my specific complaint. Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation indicated that my mobile home located in a mobile home court was not within their jurisdiction to review my complaint since I personally did not pay real estate taxes at that location. Real estate taxes are paid by the owner of the Park and passed thru to tenants as part of our lot fee. The manufacturer, Goodman, did respond to my lawyer's letter sent in my behalf. Goodman pointed out that they have no responsibility in reference to the installation of the unit. I don't know if the statute of limitations applies but it may. As a caregiver for an aged parent my time is limited in trying to take this issue to small claims court at this time. Other services--electrical and plumbing--I have received from Michael & Son Services were ok. Only in the sale and installation of the heat pump system have I had problems. I only wanted Michael & Son Services to come out and look at their own work and assure me that it was installed correctly. They refused to come out and review their work. But with the findings of two independent certified technicians, I now know that the heat pump system was not installed so as to meet manufacturer's recommendations. There was no expansion valve installed on the air handler and a pre-installation survey may not have been performed before putting the heat pump system in a mobile home. This was my unpleasant experience with Michael & Son Services as to the heat pump system they installed in December 2009 which stopped working in April 2014.

Description of Work: Called in January during snow storm, not an emergency just dripping sink and resetting of toilet. Rec'd email saying they would contact me but they did not. Called again in March, rec'd call back and appt right away. The work was good but the price was very high, I thought for 2 simple issues, but again the work was good.

Description of Work: Fixed a ruptured drain seal in the kitchen sink. The technician arrived on schedule, repaired the pipe, and cleaned up. Great job, no complaints.

Description of Work: Sean Kraushaar came into my home with a professional and friendly demeanor. He gave me a fair price estimate for the work i wanted. And yes, the price was a little more than I wanted to spend, but based on the quality of Sean's knowledge, the quality of the work, I would hire Michael and Sons in the future. You get what you pay for.
