Description of Work: Michael & Sons is a massive company spanning most of the mid-Atlantic region. They do good work, but you pay for it. They were able to purchase a Superbowl Commercial! | |I paid less than HALF what I was quoted by Michael & Sons to replace an air handler coil and system charge on a 2.5 ton unit for my townhome from a smaller local company. I see no discrepancy in the quality of work, but the price differential means I'll never consult Michael & Sons for a repair again.

Description of Work: We subscribe to their maintenance plan, and although seemingly pricey on top, pays for itself with free response time and regular check-ups of our systems. I've never felt pressured to purchase additional services, although they do ensure they mention other options when they visit.

Description of Work: We have used them for awhile. They have always been pricey! We had the faucet in our kitchen replaced some time back (still under warranty). I was out of town and they pressured my wife to buy some super-duper ridiculously priced faucet. Cost us an arm and a leg but was supposedly warranted forever. Well, the super- duper faucet broke. Had a tech out to "fix" it. Now it's worse than before - absolutely no water pressure. We asked about the warranty. The tech said WE would have to contact the manufacturer to see if they would send us a new one (Michael & Son could not be bothered). And if they would honor the warranty and send us a new faucet Michael & Son would come and install it - for $250!! Unbelievable! These guys are rip-off artists - STAY AWAY from them!!!!!!

Description of Work: I had a leak in my basement apartment. The technician said it was coming from outside and that I'd need to water proof the area with a sump pump. He ripped up my hardwood floors, jackhammered the concrete, and installed a sump pump -- after installing a new outlet and redoing my electrical panel -- but after they went into the walls, they determined that the leak was from the refrigerator next door. The replaced the floor but cut an ugly circle in the wood around the sump pump so that it was a total eyesore. It was completely unnecessary and cost me so much money, time, and aggravation, when the problem could have been fixed just by cutting into my wall. I was very unhappy. Sometimes you can get a good technician who will fix problems efficiently, but it is still more expensive than other services.

Description of Work: We ordered a folding glass firescreen for our fireplace. Salesman was later removed, but after entering wrong size of opening. Form around our fireplace was installed. Screen came, but sent back by installer as it did not fit. 1.5 mos later still no screen. Person in service department cavalier about taking action. Screen was finally installed and we are crazy about it. There had been many interim tries to get things done right, but always sidetracked. Did not even get responses to emails. And there was no follow-up after installation. Installer was polite and professional. Was just after M&S had taken over the fireplace store in Falls Church. Still the overall experience left a bad taste. Would not consider using them for anything in our home.

Description of Work: Installed new heat pump and compressor. The initial response was spotty, with one service advisor recommending simply two new parts. That didn't work. Another appointment with someone else resulted in recommendation for new system. Since I had purchased an annual service contract after the first visit, the company did refund me the money since I was getting a 10 year guarantee. The only problem was some confusion on the total price, which eventually I understood, and the fact that from the second estimate to installation, 10 days of brutal heat ensued. I had thought they were going to start sooner than they were able. The technicians were personable and excellent.
