They never showed up. They started out by telling me, after they didn't show up all day that they would be there by 6 and still never showed up. Then they said they would be there to install a ceiling fan at 9pm, I said no. I thought they weren't being truthful, all they needed to do was be honest with me - we could have set it up for another day.

I liked how Michael & Sons worked fast. But I was not happy with how expensive the job was. It seemed a bit expensive for how long he worked. I would give him a "B" as an overall experience.

We're very unhappy with Michael & Son. We overpaid on the amount due and rather than reimbursing us, they incorrectly sent the reimbursement check to a third party. They could have resent a reimbursement check to us, but they wanted to have the third party send the reimbursement to us instead. Due to their error, we had to wait over a month for the money back that we were owed. To date, we have yet to receive it. They made a mistake and did not make good on it in a timely manner. We also found their prices to be expensive compared to other plumbers we've used. We'd recommend not using Michael & Son.

CHANGED MY GRADE FROM "F" TO "C" BECAUSE AS SOON AS THEY SAW THIS REPORT, THEY CALLED AND WERE VERY APOLOGETIC, AND EVEN OFFERED A DISCOUNT. I WOULD HAVE TAKEN THEM UP ON IT BUT I'VE ALREADY PAID FOR THE OTHER WORK. BUT THEY DO GET POINTS FOR ADMITTING THE ERROR AND BEING VERY NICE ON THE CALL. BASED ON THAT, I WOULD USE THEM AGAIN, WHICH I ALREADY SAID BEFORE. Michael & Son just disappeared after agreeing to do the work. They repeatedly said they would show, in response to my follow-up calls. But they never did. I gave up and hired someone else.The job was a water leak in my Homeowners Association alley. Folks in our development have had great experiences with Michael & Son, so I contacted them to take a look at the leak. They sent technicians out twice (after concluding after the first visit that the first guy's truck wasn't the correct set of equipment and skills to deal with the problem), and each time, they met with me at length to decide what to do. Both times, they were prompt, professional, knowledgeable, their equipment was in tip-top shape, and they inspired confidence. They gave me a quote for a diagnostic effort and a ballpark estimate for a repair, and they said they would drop off the diagnostic quote in written form. These meetings were in mid-December. I was very pleased with the interaction. The quote seemed reasonable to me for the difficult work involved, which was to find a difficult-to-pinpoint leak under pavers.Then they went silent. I call the techs and got no response. I called the home office and was assured that they did want to do the work, and would be calling soon, and would drop off the written quote. More silence. They didn't drop off the quote. By then it was late December. BOTH of the techs then sent me Christmas cards thanking me for my business! "We look forward to solving your water leak," says the one written by Matt. Very nice! But still, no calls returned. I called the home office again, and was told they were very sorry, and would get right on it. More silence. To cut to the end: we need to get this leak fixed, and it's now January 18, so I have retained someone else. Michael & Sons has never called or dropped off the quote. Very odd, because I called them repeatedly, they always said they would do it, and they seem very professional. I would actually use them again ... if they'd contact me, that is! It's kind of funny that they send me Christmas cards but forgot to send me a quote, isn't it?

These guys are nothing but professionals!They’re extremely courteous, always arrive on time, and are very clean when they come in to do the work. They’re very cautious with how they treat our home and the area that they’re working in; very respectful and kind. They explain everything very well and in a cut & dry fashion, including the prices, what's included, and what's not included. I’d highly recommend the home service package (which is about $50 a month). This package can definitely be handy if any additional services come up down the line. For example, one of my heating units broke, and three weeks prior I had purchased a service package. The package covered a $1200 repair!

It was one of the nicest experience. The technician gave an inspection. He explained things very clearly

They are not the cheapest company around but are competitive in terms of pricing. They give you an estimate quickly and will follow up with the work just as prompt. The people are personable are friendly. It did seem like the sales and workman did not always agree on the same thing but it was not something we could not deal with. They offered us a finance option to pay the work off in 6 months without any additional fee.

They are outstanding. The workers are clean, quick, honest and friendly. I recommend them to a lot of people and will use them again in the future.

I am not sure whether the Michael & Son service technician was completely incompetent or whether they were trying to scam me however my garbage disposal stopped working so I called them to see if it could be repaired. Their technician came to my home, inspecting my garbage disposal, and told me that the garbage disposal could not be repaired and had to be replaced. He then offered me to replace it for a price ranging from $300-$600 (depending on the garbage disposal I chose). I told him that I would need to think about it at which point he mentioned that if I decided to buy my disposal from them they would use the service fee (I believe it was $50) towards the purchase/installation of a new disposal (which seems like a selling tactic). I called my brother (who I co-own my house with) to ask him what he would like to do. He told me to press the red reset button on the side of the garbage disposal to see that would fix it. Low and behold the garbage disposal started working immediately.

The drain was never fully unclogged, and they had to make a second trip out. I had to take time off of work, and waste more of my personal time.

They were very good. They were very good about setting up appointments over the phone and the price seemed fair.

They are really professional and seemed perfectly competent. They are people who know what they're doing. They were about an hour late, but apparently they had some emergency somewhere. They apologized and did the job. I wasn't angry because I know that things like that happen. Whatever they repaired was fine. Their price was the same as that of everybody else. It's all expensive up here in Northern Virginia. I have never gotten anything that was less. I would recommend them to friends and family members.

Michael and Sons was good and efficient and did not take a whole lot of time.

I can't fault the repairman - he seemed to be competent. But the scheduling function in the company doesn't seem to communicate the nature of the repair to the serviceman they send out on the job. And this company's prices are really high!

I was very pleased with the technicians punctuality and professionalism. It was raining, and they brought their own mats and footies so they wouldn't wet or muddy my floors. I have used their services in the past and will continue to do so. My only complaint is due to the pricing. At the time I made the appointment I was told about the $30 flat fee for the technicians' attendance. What I was not told of is the company's $159 troubleshooting fee (this fee has nothing to do with the actual repair, and it only took two seconds for the technicians to figure out the problem). In addition, the company does not subtract any of these fees from the bill after they have performed the actual service (as other companies tend to do). Because I have used the company before, the technicians were gratuitous enough to cancel the $29, and a representative I spoke to on the phone informed me of a 10% off coupon on their website. To be fair, once I looked at the actual website, I saw that they have an estimate calculator I could have used to get a better idea of their pricing. I will continue to use them because they did their best to try to accommodate me, but I wished I had been made aware of the troubleshooting fee beforehand. Edwin was THE BEST!!

I called Michael and Sons on Monday for them to come out when I was off on a Friday. The customer service representative was so friendly and helpful that I almost fell out of my chair. It's no longer common to have a C.R. that cares and actually likes her job. I was able to schedule the appt. Friday and they came me a small window of time as to when they could come out (8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.) Again, unusual. Some companies can make you wait all day. I think he came out by 10:00. I was able to show him all the areas and he gave me an estimate that I felt was reasonable but informed me that he has to do this initial work to find out what the problem was. I was fine with that. So he went to work, determining that all the outlets had burned out. At the final outlet, he was able to figure out what was going on with the light fixtures. It was unfortunately an additional cost for equipment (new outlets) but again, I was okay with that. After a couple of hours, he was done and everything is working. We need more work done on the house and I definitely intend on using them again and will request the technician that came out. A week after the visit I was pleasantly surprised to get my mail and find a postcard from him thanking me for the business and even asking how my dog, Gigi, was. Very impressed!

Michael and Sons came out on time performed the work and then I asked about discounts from Angies List or a Senior's Discount and it was no where noted on the paperwork that it was given. Just verbal discount from the plumber. Once he started the work, the pipe appeared deeper than he had thought and he also said that it was broken in 2 places. He explained to me beforehand what he would be performing and that I would get PVC piping from the ground up past the laundry bowl. When I saw what he had done I asked....you said that you would replace the copper pipe with PVC up pass the laundry bowl. He said I did not know that I would have to dig deeper in the ground for the pipe. Well..... you knew the pipe was in the ground or should I say under the floor so that should not have nothing to do with what you had explained to me what would take place either. Overall, I suppose it was a good job nevertheless. When asking about replacing a facet..... in the laundry room that was extremely high I thought. Good work, but please shop around first. Still waiting for Flowright to call me back with the part he ordered!

We called late one day and they came promptly the next day. Their technician did the work and it was great; he was very helpful. The technician was very professional and tells you everything straight out; he knows his stuff. I will use him again in the future.

My wife and I recently bought a older home in Alexandria (Old Town) that needed a lot of repairs and remodeling. We used Michael & Son Electrical, plumbing, HVAC and handyman all in the same month. The plumbers performed a re-piping of a large potion of the home, the electric guys put in new panels and the HVAC guys installed two new units. I was very impressed by the professionalism of all the technicians and how polite they were. They were very clean and neat; they always made sure to clean up and always had shoe covers on when they came in my home. They finished the job on time and since I knew what the price was for everything BEFORE they started the work there were no budget concerns. The remodeling that the Michael & Son did in my kitchen and bathrooms looks amazing, like something off a TV show. Here are a few things I really liked... -HVAC, plumbing and electrical all worked together so they could finish the job quick -Technicians are clean, neat and polite - I knew the price before the work started -They gave me a lot of different options - Remodeling/handyman has a show room and designer -Price was reasonable and on par with the quality of the work I would not think twice about calling Michael & Son for any work I need done in the future

My elderly neighbor had a gas leak in his furnace. The service man for Michael and Sons came out. He proposed replacing the gas line to the furnace but did not have the parts. Charged my neighbor for two trips. He also needed to add an electrical grounding wire to the gas line. That required an electrician and another trip charge. The gas line looks like something I would do - not professional at all. They fixed the problem but gouged my neighbor and the work looks like h**l.

First, the technician checked the wiring to the dishwasher, which is why I called them in the first place. He concluded that the wiring was fine, but the problem might lie with an old breaker. He replaced that one then showed me that three others were on the verge of going bad. So he replaced them. I questioned him about the cost of replacing whole breaker box to allow for additions if we needed them. He worked up an estimate for me. That was the completion of this visit.

Overall it was a wonderful job, everything was executed to perfection.

They are extremely professional and always available. We get the same technician each time we use them. I would recommend them.

Called to get a new gasket installed in a shower drain. I have the part, but wanted a professional to install it. The scheduling person on the phone said it would be $29 to get someone out just to do the estimate. They scheduled me for a 2pm-6pm slot a couple days later. I came home from work early that day and waited. At 4pm I got a call that the worker was running late. At 6pm I called to cancel the service call after not hearing anything more. Setting up the appointment was easy, but a no-show is a bad first impression. Update (11/10/2011) - Was called back by customer service department and I rescheduled the appointment to 8am on a Thursday. That was definitely the better way to do it to avoid the appointment getting bumped later in the day. They put the drain gasket in after cutting another access hole in the ceiling (it has water damage so ceiling needs to be re-done anyway). They were nice and very thorough and professional.

Overall, it was a great experience. I recommend them highly.
