It has been our pleasure to have the MW Construction team bring our vision of what we wanted our home to be to life.Their Construction crews are unbelievable. They exhibited nothing put professionalism while on the property. The design team is phenomenal. I’m thinking of buying another property, and will be giving them any future business when I do .
Description of Work: The first project included an exterior facelift of our single family home. The second project included a full basement build out with underpinning. Project three was a phased renovation of 3 full and one half bath. The fourth and hopefully final project included a kitchen expansion that opened into the living room and dinning room, creating an open, welcoming space.

We hired MW Construction to renovate our home to create a larger kitchen within the original footprint of our house. They did a fantastic understanding what works and what doesn't work design-wise, and provided several suggestions that made our original ideas even better. The build team was led by Matt Galassi, who made sure the project was prompt, clean, and on budget. Matt was easy to work with and regularly checks in on us. We’ll be back in touch with the MW group soon to discuss future projects.

The execution and quality of the work was excellent and we could not be more pleased with our new living space! The entire WM Team are a collection of professionals who listened to our dream and helped us formulate a vision to execute on ---- giving us options and choices throughout the process. Greg and Drew Marks were extremely helpful from day one through the completion date, their management of our 2 month project was very smooth. We must give a big "shout-out" to Armando, who lead the on-sight construction team --- not only is he a consummate professional craftsman, he was a true joy to work with -- he was never satisfied until each part of our project was perfect!
Description of Work: Complete remodeling of our downstairs living area -- to included kitchen, family room, living room and dining room. Work involved the removal of walls and the installation of two large arched doorways, new hardwood floors, the design of a built-in glass cabinet, installation of all new kitchen appliances, cabinets and island. Installed new front door, kitchen French doors and new window over the farmer's sink, remodeling of powder room with new pedestal sink. To complete the job, WM painted all walls, ceilings and windows.

While planning our remodel we met with numerous design-build firms. During the preconstruction phase, the Marks-Woods design team asked a lot of questions about how we live and our family lifestyle. They gathered information about what we “did and didn't” like about our current house, and came up with creative solutions. They also described how they work and their process in a level of detail that I hadn't found when interviewing other firms. Construction of our rear addition that housed our new second floor master suite and first floor open concept kitchen/living room went flawlessly. Matt Galassi was our day to day contact for the project. He met with us weekly, even on Saturdays, to provide updates on the project and to answer any questions. I highly encourage others to contact this firm for their design/build needs.

In sum, I'm convinced it went as well as a home renovation could go. The quality of the job was excellent, done at a reasonable price, and relatively on time. Little issues along the way were dealt with and the follow up was strong on minor touch ups that were needed. Greg and Drew are solid people and try to do the right thing. They are professionals and good to deal with. I'd strongly recommend them and would use them again. Sorry for the late review but haven't been on Angie's List for quite awhile.

It all went perfect! We signed the contract at the beginning of November, 2016 and it was completed by the end of March, 2017. The actual construction took only 2 months due to a very synchronized and well planned construction schedule. Overall the project was beyond our expectations. The MW tradesman were all highly professional and had top notch skills. MW is great at attention to detail both during the construction and in the finishes.
Description of Work: Refinished basement: completely unfinished basement turned into a beautiful finished TV/family room. They installed a full bath with tile around tub, A/C-Heat Mini split system, new Navien Tankless Heat and Hot water system installed, new laundry room with new utility sink, new storage closets, and a wet bar area with a granite countertop, under counter refrigerator and bar sink. The floor is tile around laundry, back door, and bathroom. The living room area and stairs are carpet. All the walls and ceiling are dry wall.

We had an excellent experience with MW Construction. We received bids from 3 other firms and found their pricing to be competitive. We found MW to be very responsive from the beginning of the design process all the way through project completion. We worked primarily with Greg Marks during the sales/design process then worked with Drew Marks day-to-day during construction. Our home is in a historic district in Alexandria and they were great partners moving the project through city approvals. Once we broke ground there were workers at the house an average of 5 days a week with only the occasional down week waiting on subs or weather. We gave the workers and subs complete access to the house with a punch code door lock and that worked well. We also lived in our home throughout the construction. I was very impressed with Armando, one of the leads, who knew the "right" way to build/fix anything. The project took approximately 6 months of design/approvals (we had to get it approved by a city architectural review board) and then 6 months of construction. We stayed on budget. The thing that impressed me the most about MW was they were always choosing the right way, not the easy way. I felt like they were committed to doing a quality job every step of the way. I'd refer them with 100% confidence and would do business again with them in the future.

The construction project went so well, I felt that I had to write an online review so others would know about it. Quote: Someone physically came to my home, while I was there, and went over exactly what I wanted. I expected (and received) an itemized estimate for work to be performed. MW doesn't cost out every nail in the project but other companies hide overestimates by not telling you. Very happy here. I was able to see where big ticket items would hit my wallet and rethink items that were out of my budget. Project Start: I was given a general start date at the time of signing the contract. They didn't start on my start date. However, they kept the lines of communication open so I knew why we were sliding right and when I could expect my project to start. The hold up was primarily the permit approval process. Enough said... Foundation Team: Impressive! Demolished an old driveway completed all foundation work and poured the garage in about 2 weeks. Framing Team: Pros! Constructed the shell of the addition, completed the roof, and had the shingles on, again in about 2 weeks. Siding Team: Strength in numbers! I'm not really sure if it took 2 days or 3 to rip off all the old aluminum siding and hang the vinyl. Fascinating to watch. Plumbing work: Ran the pipes, no drips. Considering it's from the 1970's the house has copper pipes. I was a little surprised to see PVC on the new addition work but it's not like I specifically requested copper in my quote. Overall construction: Very well done. Job Site Crew: I specially need to call out Matt Galassi at MW. He's exactly the guy you want as your project manager. Always, always, calls, texts, or emails you back. Never sweats the small stuff when things that are out of his control pop up. Has an excellent report with the team leads doing the work and the county inspectors approving the work. Was VERY respectful of my family while 1. My pregnant wife wanted constant schedule updates. 2. My 3 y/o son asked him a million questions every day. 3. My newborn baby "needed" quiet (according to my wife). 4. I wanted to "help". Other than Matt, I would minimally interact with the team leads. All interactions were positive. Warranty work: I asked them to repoint an area on the foundation. Done. Special requests: There were two work items that I wished to postpone for an extended period of time. One was the actual break through into the addition from the existing home so as not to expose the newborn to anything. I honestly thought it would never happen b/c I had paid in full, and there was little/no incentive for them to come back and do the final breakthrough. However, Matt made sure it happened and put us right into their schedule when we were ready. This is the kind of thing that makes a guy like me (hate facebook, spam, or anything that exposes you to identity theft) get online and write a review. Bottom line: You will absolutely get an excellent construction company that is ran by exceptional people if you go with MW Construction!

Very good work, it has been a little over a year since completion and we have not had any problems with the addition. They went about a month past the targeted completion date but that was an issue with the county and the permit office. We dealt with both Matt and Greg and both were very knowledgeable and professional. We would use them again.

Excellent! We have used MW twice for additions to our home and are very pleased with how the projects turned out. Matt was our project manager on our screened-in porch project and he was always responsive and polite with our requests. Overall, the craftsmanship and design exceeded our expectations and we'd pick MW again for any future projects.

MW Construction was prompt, clean and delivered an excellent amount of customer service and quality construction. The work they did greatly improved my house by helping to design and build out a beautiful kitchen that I constantly receive great reviews of. The project manager who helped run the build-out was easy to communicate with, very friendly, and an excellent project manager who helped resolve minor changes throughout the project and maintained the utmost professionalism and responsibility to the build out of my kitchen. I'd definitely recommend them to anyone who is interested in upgrading their house!"

Construction is a very stressful experience. We have had multiple additions and major renovation done on over our 30 years in our house. Every project was stressful. You just have to expect it. However our front porch replacement however was not stressful at all because the work occurred outside. Our bathroom was a different story. It needed complete replacement as it had a water leak that destroyed the floor supports. There were a few issues in thebathroom replacement but not more, in hindsight, than one should expect. Whenever we had an issue the project manager, Kevin, or sometimes Mark would take care of it. We are happy with the finished work. A thing that you should consider in hiring a contractor is their reputation in resolving problems that do not appear until well after the job is complete. Our bathroom was replaced nearly 2 years ago. Recently a water damage spot appeared on a lower level wall near the base of the wall. The water damage spot was not below the bathroom nor was it below anything else from which one could expect water. We sent an email to Greg and he quickly sent Drew to investigate. He also did not know what caused the leak but did not just say it was not the bathroom and walk away. Rather he offered to do some fairly extensive work to find the cause. We decided to wait and see whether the damage became worse (it didn't) but the offer from MW Construction to further investigate the damage still remains. I am very satisfied with their willingness to help and recommend that you seriously consider using them for your project.

After careful consideration, the decision to go with MW Construction was indeed a wise one! Greg Marks was extremely patient in efforts to define a mutually acceptable budget for both the company and myself. The MW Construction Family did a great job on this massive project. In a couple instances, I was looking to take shortcuts in an effort to save resources; both Greg and Drew, the Project Manager, were candid and offered excellent suggestions that definitely lent itself to a quality finished project. Since most of the tradesmen are directly employed by MW, there is a level of accountability and quality in craftsmanship that made for this being a superior finished product and of which I'm very proud. While there were a few instances with one of MW's employees not being attentive to keeping the exterior of my property debris/litter free, before the close of the project, this issue was remedied. MW’s Lead Trade Supervisor offered sound counsel, repeatedly went the extra mile on any number of occasions on various parts of the project; he was consistently pleasant; along with the concrete/sump pump subcontractors, mindful of completing the job with quality workmanship as Priority One and demonstrated respect for my property during the process by keeping the exterior clean. Drew was an absolute delight to work with; his hands-on approach and regular contact and involvement during the entire process made all the difference. In several cases where there were issues, MW compensated with like services to remedy; and in fact went the extra mile to cure some deficiencies. There was very little contact with the designer, however both Drew and Anna deserve a kudos for immediately stepping in to cure a faulty design due to the kitchen’s small footprint and the existing design not meeting the space requirement. The one “knock” would be MW's electrical subcontractor; even in light of this being a true" this old house" project -- in hindsight, I would have chosen my own electrician in light of the myriad of issues encountered with the electrical subcontractor. The lines of communication were pretty much open and responsive; however there were some instances where live conversations would have been preferable over electronic communication; although the need for texts and emails in order to maximize time management is definitely understandable. As with any large construction project, there are going to be issues that arise. Still, hands down, MW Construction did an excellent job; this project was a great value, superior service was provided and MW would be my first choice again and I'd be pleased to recommend their services.

Site review and estimate: Greg was on time and they provided an estimate sooner than promised. Site preparation: Knowing that we would need at least part of the yard for our dogs, Matt had a portion of the yard separated from the construction. He also had a temporary fence placed between the neighbors property and ours. Demo and excavation: Workers were punctual, professional and neat. Foundation and framing: Workers were punctual, professional and neat. Roofing: We had the entire roof was replaced. The roofers did show up a day earlier than expected. Though a bit of a scare for my wife who was in the shower when they got on the roof, the guys completed the roof in 1 day. They cleaned the yard and picked up as many nails as possible. I followed behind them and found some more nails but I feel they did a good job. Plumbing rough in: Workers were punctual, professional but left debris on the floor. They also placed the supply and discharge for the washer too high on the wall. This was later fix to our satisfaction. Electrical rough in: Workers were punctual, professional and neat. They did however, placed the outlets too high on the wall. This was later fix to our satisfaction. Mudroom drywall and painting: Drywall was hung well and Santos the painter was excellent. Screened in porch framing: Armando and his crew were professional, friendly and did a great job. Very detailed. Deck and screened in porch flooring: Excellent job. Can't say enough good things. Screened in porch painting: The first coat was excellent but when they came back to do some putting, caulking and painting, it was not Santos and this painter got paint on the flooring on the deck and the screened in porch. This was very upsetting as we had paid for the completion of the flooring and this painter came behind days later and made a mess. This cleaned up was completed much later in the job and remains one of the sore spots for us as we thought about the job for this review. Screened in porch electrical completion: These were not same electrons who did the rough in and I must say they were horrible and not professional at all. They damaged the b-board near every outlet and drilled through one panel which MW agreed to replace. We decide to not have it replaced as long as they could fix it to our satisfaction. We declined to replace it simply because we didn't think the panel could be replaced without causing further damaged and frustration. These electricians also did not cover the junction boxes under the house or in the screened in porch. They had no disregard for our safety. Again, this error was corrected much later in the job and remains one of the sore spots for us as we thought about the job for this review. House plumbing completion: Good. Tile in Mudroom: Excellent job. Cabinet and counter top in Mudroom: Excellent quality and installation was great. Finishing work and punch list: We did have a large punch list (about 80 items). Some were major but most were basic clean up that any job would have. General site cleanliness: I thought in general the site stayed neat but there were times it was a real mess. I would use MW again but I would be more specific about what my expectations are for the job. Matt, the project manager was great. He was professional and checked in each day the workers were on the job. In all, MW met our expectations and did it all within budget and the time frame we agreed on in the contract. After a little more than a year since our addition was completed, everything is still solid and looks great. We use the porch year round and the deck is great when the weather is reasonable. My initial review was a “B”, which was based on my opinion of how some steps of construction were completed. Though how you get there and how you finish is important, what really will matter in the long run is how long it will last. I truly believe that MW’s quality is second to none and that you can trust the quality of workmanship and materials you will receive if you go with this company.

Highly recommend the MW Construction Team. We completed an addition/master suite and couldn't have been happier with the results. Drew/Greg & the team were true professionals and kept us up to date with every detail of the project. As first-time remodelers, the team was great with explaining options/details and recommending design specifics as well. Great work by a great team.

When we settled on MW as the contractor for the project we were expecting our first child in early May so, we were clear with them that nature had presented us with a deadline for when the project needed to be completed. Their crew and Matt, the project manager, worked extremely hard to keep to the schedule and were diligent in keeping the job site as clean as possible while we lived there through the month’s long renovation. They were kind enough to hire a cleaning crew for our upstairs living area after demolition as well as following the completion of the project. Each week Matt briefed us on what we should expect and was quick to respond to any and all of our questions and concerns. The crew and subcontractors involved in the project were always friendly and respectful. Given the detailed work schedule meant that surprises were few and far between. As with any major home renovation it is always a good idea to have all of you decisions made upfront and minimize the number of dreaded change orders. So, I appreciated the flexibility that MW showed as the project progressed and as long as our requests were within reason they were willing to work with us without a change order. As far as cost, they weren’t the cheapest or most expensive bid that we received. But, having dealt with many contractors since we started fixing up or home 3 years ago we feel like we got more than our money’s worth on this extensive and complicated project. I would absolutely recommend using them for a project, large or small, and will gladly provide a reference if asked.
Description of Work: We hired MW Construction earlier this spring to do a major renovation and full kitchen installation on the first floor of our Capitol Hill rowhome. The project included removing walls, structural work, full electrical/lighting upgrade, plumbing, and flooring. They provided both design and build services.

MW construction did an amazing job on our home addition! We popped the top of a small bungalow and added a large bedroom, a bathtub area, a balcony and covered back porch. We (my husband, dog and I) lived in the house during the job. The MW team was courteous and respectful of all of us. The craftsmanship of the work they performed was the best we've seen! Top quality materials, top quality work, done in a meticulous manner. No shortcuts. We met weekly with the construction foreman to talk about the work they performed and the upcoming week's tasks. We never felt like we were in the dark. Big construction jobs are always hard, but we felt at ease with Greg and Drew and their team. We couldn't be happier with the final project! Exactly what we wanted!

MW was a pleasure to work with, Greg and his team are well organized, professional and perform high quality work in a timely manor. Our project centered around the construction of a new staircase in our bedroom to gain access to a previously unused lofted space. Greg designed the solution, went over it with us, had us work with his designer for choices in tile, materials, paint, etc. MW was true to the budget agreed upon, great with updates and answering questions throughout the project and always professional. Our project manager, Matt, walked us through the site weekly for updates, and his team was always on time in the mornings and great to have in the house. Greg and Matt managed the project from end to end, coordinating demo, dry wall, framing, painting, plumbing, electrical and finish (and custom) woodwork for our closet. We had some interesting/difficult finish woodwork ideas and Greg and Matt rose to the challenge at every curve-ball we threw at them. I would highly recommend MW and I will be using them again for our future projects.
Description of Work: We hired MW for a remodel of our master bedroom suite (bedroom, master bathroom, new staircase, master walk in closet).

We had two projects with MW Construction in 2016. The major remodeling project was our kitchen. We added an island, new floor, sink, installed appliances, lighting fixtures, cabinets and paint. Each day, the home was presentable to continue living despite the kitchen was unusable for the first part of the project. The second project was at a lower cost adding a Pella patio door, three light fixtures and more painting. We were pleased they were willing to complete the second project at a low dollar amount, i.e. <10K. This time we selected the style of door we wanted at Pella. For each project, they provided a realistic estimate based on our requirements up front. Their cost was highly competitive staying within their estimated budget each time with no hidden costs. They offered a discount and other professional advice on saving money for our projects. They have quality products and materials to choose from. We added some scope change in the middle of the kitchen project. They were able to accomplish the change without impacting schedule. The management, Greg and Drew Marks, and their whole team are very professional. We recommend you give them an opportunity to provide a competitive bid for your upcoming project.
Description of Work: Kitchen remodeled and new patio door.

MW was excellent throughout the process. Their crew was professional, pleasant and worked hard. We are very pleased with the quality of work they performed. We were very pleased with the communication and options they provided on design and other questions. Their PM worked closely with us throughout the process and kept us informed on progress, issues and decisions we needed to make. When there were questions that weren't covered in the contract, we were able to work with them to mutually agreeable solutions. MW Construction was great, we would definitely recommend them, and would use them again for a similar project.
Description of Work: MW did an addition and remodel at our house. The addition and remodeling were about 900 sq. ft.

Excellent. These folks do top-notch work. They don't cut corners, but really do the work right. The result is a finished project that looks great and keeps working well for years to come. They are also really easy to work with. Everyone is really nice and polite, and respects that this is your house. Greg Marks has great design ideas and Drew Marks is very responsive as a project manager, and great at problem-solving. They really go out of their way to be helpful. I realized on a Saturday morning that I'd forgotten to ask them to touch up paint on the kitchen ceiling, which had water damage from the old bathroom (which was why we started the remodeling project when we did). They knew I had an open house planned for that afternoon, so they sent someone over to paint it right away, on a Saturday morning! A couple of years ago, when we had our kitchen remodeled, they worked overtime to finish early because we had a baby shower scheduled. This is my fourth project with them and I would be happy to work with them again.
Description of Work: MW remodeled an existing bathroom, including completely gutting the old bathroom and installing new pipes, electric work, etc.

The initial meeting with Greg Marks went really well. Greg did a thorough check of everything that could impact the cost of removing the load bearing wall and also took notes on what we had planned for the bathroom. The proposal was received relatively timely and they were actually available to start the project sooner than we expected. The first project they completed was removal of the load bearing wall between the family and living rooms in our house. They did a great job and everything went relatively smoothly. They handled changes we made to certain design choices with no problem and did a great job with the column design we came up with to enclose the column that was added to support the load bearing beam. Only complaint we had during this project was the electrician (which was a subcontractor) was not highly skilled so several mistakes (i.e., wires and switches crossed) were made. Some I even just corrected myself to prevent the electrician from coming back. Overall we have been very happy with the project and have received a lot of compliments on how great our new space looks. The second project they completed was the renovation of the hall bathroom. The project started off smoothly as they quickly gutted the bathroom and then started to rebuild it. Then the mistakes started to mount. First the tub was installed incorrectly so water leaked from the drain causing water to leak through the ceiling below and onto the hardwood floor and into the room that was just renovated. Although everything was cleaned up and repaired correctly, it was frustrating that our renovated space already had a hole in the ceiling and had to be patched up. The second mistake was the tile floor was installed in the wrong direction from what we requested, but luckily we were home and caught the mistake before the tile had time to dry. The third mistake was when the vanity and matching wall cabinet were delivered - all the parts were not confirmed delivered so when installation was complete, they didn't notice parts were missing until we alerted them to the fact that parts were missing. Furthermore, they installed knobs on the vanity and wall cabinet and we requested pulls to be installed. One of the project managers stated the vanity and wall cabinet were pre-drilled to only fit knobs. So I had to show the project manager pictures of the vanity before the knobs were installed that the vanity and cabinet did not come pre-drilled. At this point, frustration level was pretty high as the mistakes were mounting on what I thought was a start forward bathroom renovation. MW did order parts for the vanity so the pulls we requested could be installed. Overall we are happy with the look and quality of the bathroom. We may consider using MW again for our master bathroom renovation but certainly will also consider other contractors as well.
Description of Work: We had a load bearing wall removed between the family room and living room. We also had a hall bathroom renovated.
