Everything went smoothly from start to finish. Appointment scheduling, estimate, installation, all very professionally done, high quality water heater, thorough job. We were very pleased with the service and the water heater. They even corrected shoddy work by the previous owner and showed us how to use this water heater correctly. The price was fa bit steep, but it was fair and I think that the quality of the product was worth the price. They are our one-stop plumbing shop from now on

I called early that day to ask for an appointment. The dispatcher was very polite. She told me when to expect a call and checked my numbers. I received a call about noon telling me to expect a plumber in 20-30 minutes. Seth has been here before and our dogs love him. He was very calm and friendly with them. He looked at the disposal and gave me a written list of my options. Once I decided to have him try to fix it, he worked quickly. When he was done, he pointed out several problems around the dishwasher that were not directly related to it. I asked some questions which he answered. He then wrote an estimate for fixing each of the problems, including corroding pipes and a dying sink basket. He also explained how to keep the pipes from crumbling until I get them fixed. I was pleased with the service. My husband was aware of the pipes. Seth's estimate and advice gives us time to decide what to do next.

Home was built in 1941 and "remodeled" in 2003 by an incompetent builder that cut every corner imaginable (we knew when purchasing that corrections would be required). The single basement sump pump rarely came on and was inaccessible (boxed in and sealed with lots of caulk). Over the holidays (and heavy rains) with still no sump pump action (and an occasional basement odor), we decided to take a close look. What we found (again, no surprise) was a 1. a hole too narrow for the cheapo sump pump to function properly, 2. no pump basin, 3. a rotting composite wood frame, and 4. an open sewer pipe (i.e. the occasional odor). Kramer & Sons Plumbing was 1 of 4 Angie's List outfits we had provide estimates - their recommendations were the most clear and concise, providing a comfort level the others did not. Perhaps a tad higher in cost compared to a couple of the others, but, we believe that you get what you pay for. And we could not be more pleased with their work. They were punctual, courteous, explained every step to include meeting code requirments, and were always totally professional. They even ran a camera through the sewer pipe to ensure there were no residual issues that could result in furthur problems. We would not hesitate to use them again for any plumbing issue, one rarely sees this quality of service these days.
Description of Work: Replaced sump pump, added pump basin, repaired sewer pipe/replaced check valve. Required jack-hammering tile/concrete floor, digging a roughly 4 x 3 foot hole, removing contaminated soil, backfilling with gravel, re-concrete and replace tile flooring.

Seth Kramer was quite professional, on time and extremely knowledgeable on the product we wanted to install. He also, at no extra cost, tested our the gas logs in our fireplace and recommended that some safety work on the gas valve be repaired or replaced. In the end we went with another company for the water heater primarily due to price. Seth's quote was quite a bit higher than our other estimates. However, we will definitely go back to Kramer and Sons when we replace the gas logs in the fireplace and for other plumbing needs.

The water service line from the city water to the house failed and gushed onto my lawn and driveway. I called Kramer & Sons Plumbing based on the reviews I saw on Angie's list. Within three hours two workers came out, explained what probably happened and provided a couple of options; fix the break in the plastic water line or replace the entire line with copper. Fearing that the line would fail somewhere else if I only patched the leak, I chose to replace the entire line. That job would have cost $5200. The crew came out the next morning (after miss utility marked the utilities) and discovered to their surprise that the leak was caused by a connecting fitting that failed. Apparently, someone may have cut the line years ago and patched it using a cheap plastic fitting and clamps. Since the water line still looked okay, it was suggested that they repair the line instead of replacing the entire line, saving me $4000 from the contract I had just signed. Overall, I was very pleased with the professionalism and integrity of the all the employees of the company I dealt with. I will use them for all my future plumbing needs.
Description of Work: Excavated and found the leak in the water service line to the house. Repaired a fitting that had failed due to poor workmanship and parts from a previous job by someone else.

The work was excellent from start to finish. I was taken aback by the hourly rate of plumbers but found that the company's rate is similar to others in this area. The plumber was polite and very professional. The work was timely complete and within the estimate. He diagnosed an additional problem with a faulty gate valve leading from the hot water heater to the residence, we agreed on a price, and he completed that work as well. I am pleased with the result.

I was delighted by their service. I called at 8 am and they were there with a replacement water heater later in the morning of the same day. They installed an A O Smith 50 gal. ProMax water heater (lists for around $600). The two technicians were friendly, competent, and knowledgeable. They did their work in less than two hours, cleaned up and took away the old water heater. The quality of their work (I have done plumbing myself) was top-notch professional. I find myself smiling when I think about their work... really.

A plumber from Michael & Sons had told us that the solution would be much lmore extensive and expensive, so we were pleasantly surprised.

Excellent. This is my second experience with Kramer and Sons and I have been very pleased both times. Julio Romero was our service technician and he was very professional, amiable, and thorough. He took the time to explain our plumbing problems and lay out the various options without putting pressure on us to pay for anything unnecessary. The service wasn't cheap, but plumbing never is and if you're going to spend the money, you might as well go with someone you know is going to do a good job. Kramer and Sons always does a excellent job and sends technicians who are cheerful, professional, and very conscientious about not making a mess (their technicians, for instance, always wear shoe covers and thoroughly clean the work area after the job is completed). I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Kramer and Sons did a minor rebuild of a toilet that had a bad valve and, inside the toilet, needed a new flapper and fill valve. They also replaced shower piping that was rusting and beginning to slowly leak with new PVC piping.

The two plumblers were committed to fix the water leak problem in the basement. After they surveyed the damage, they immediately gave me a full picture of the problem and how to resolve it. Both were knowledgeable and respectful.

They happened to have what they needed right there on the truck with them so they were able to make the replacement during that visit. They came right out after we called them. They did a very neat job and cleaned up well after themselves. I would say the price was a little on the high side, I went into a hardware store after the purchase and found the Kramer's price to be double the amount of the stores. I would recommend them if you were in a tight situation, but you're going to pay for that. I would use them again in an emergency situation in the future.

Everything went well. Workers were courteous and as careful as one could be with this kind of work. Plastic sheeting was used for excavated soil so as not to make a bigger mess of the yard and also was large enough to provide cover so that rain would not turn it all into mud. They were careful to fence off the open trench overnight and had cones for their equipment in the street. When they ran into trouble with rock in the areas that had to be hand dug and with replaacing the connection to the street they kept at it, working late until they finished so we would have water overnight. A highlight was when they let our 3 year old grandson sit on and "operate" the "digger". Restoration was well done and complete including power tamping of the soil so that it will not sink and they also raked away stones on the surface for clean reseeding. Bottom line, these are good guys and professionals at what they do.
Description of Work: Replace outside water line from meter at the roadside to the house. Original line was "big blue" plastic which is known to eventually fail - we got 26 years out of it. Work involved removing large shrubs next to house, digging approx. 45 ft. trench, cutting concrete sidewalk, installing new copper pipe and then restoring all. Also required contact to Miss Utility and getting county permit and inspection.

Description of Work: Had a water leak -- I think the main valve from street into house was damaged or failing; water was running down the inside of the exterior wall of my townhome into crawl space below -- they came, they fixed it, they were polite, helpful and neat. I noticed water soaked drywall in my garage and traced it to the mechanical room, which I had not had occasion to enter for about 45 days. There was a substantial amount of water standing although it was apparent that it had gone down from its previous level. My first thought was water heater, but I did not have symptoms of water heater failure. I checked Angie's List in the morning and found Kramer & Sons. They covered my area (Centreville) and had a substantial number of excellent reviews. Seth took my call and coordinated with me so that I could make a morning meeting and get back in time to let Brandon and his partner in. They quickly diagnosed the problem as a clogged drain under the air conditioning unit. Unfortunately, that meant they had to cut an access panel to the drain, since that had not been done upon original installation six years ago. Once access was accomplished, it was a simple matter to snake the drain and flush it out. The guys were very professional and friendly. Brandon gave me an estimate before doing the work and kept to it, even though it was awkward to gain access to the drain. What I was gearing up for as a long, expensive afternoon or even weekend, turned out to be an easy, short, modestly expensive couple of hours. I particularly appreciated how Seth not only got somebody out right away (he could have had them here earlier if I had not had to go downtown for a previously scheduled meeting), but also how he worked with me to accommodate the obligation I had to take care of before I could meet the workmen.
Description of Work: Brandon and his partner quickly diagnosed the cause of the standing water in my mechanical room as a clogged drain causing the air conditioner condensate to back up. They cut an access to the drain, snaked it out, flushed it and cleaned up in less than an hour.

Our fist experience was a plugged toilet, Kramer came and gave an estimate, did the work just as he said. Then, we asked for a faucet repair. Again, the accurate estimate, prompt and efficient service, and successful repair. The third time, we asked for a repair of tub faucets and leaks. The service was the same: prompt, professional, and successful. The last time, Kramer came out to unplug a kitchen drain and the standard of service was again excellent. Without exception, the service was thoroughly explained, the cost explained, and they were absolutely on time and responsive to questions. They will be the only firm we call from now on.

We had a leaking sewage pipe, which unfortunately was located under the basement slab. They put a camera through the pipe and found two large bellies (sagging pipe). The ground under the slab had settled putting stress on the waste pipes. We got 3 estimates. Kramer's was the most complete and in the middle, cost-wise. It included a precise description of the job and an addendum covering the worst case situation of replacing ALL the waste pipe under the house. The 3-man crew always arrived promptly and worked 2 1/2 days to finish the job. They used a jackhammer to cut through the concrete slab (we pulled up the carpet). They were careful to cut out only what was necessary. In the end, all the pipe was replaced, regraded, graveled, and resealed with concrete. They did a great job of showing me the work as they progressed and explaining what they were doing. They laid tarps to hold the mountains of dirt, gravel, and concrete pieces that were excavated. They wheeled in loads of gravel to fill in the gaps. When they were done, the dirt was gone and the floor was swept clean. They even mopped the tiled section in the laundry room. Very impressive.

He gave me several options -- 1. he could start opening walls to find the leak. 2. He could cut under the sink to look at the pipes for a leak 3. replace a part on the toliet which solves the problem 50% of the time. or 4. give me suggestions on how to help them locate the leak (and save me money). All in all -- I took option 4 and have not had the leak again.

I called Seth during his lunch & he returned my call promptly and dispatched Brent to check things out, giving me a rough estimate within 3 hours of my initial call, and faxed a complete quote at 8am the next morning. I approved the work at 8:30am and Brent and his crew had water service restored by 6pm, which included digging a trench through the sidewalk and yard to the front of the house (taking care to work around one of the large roots for the big tree in the yard rather than cutting through it), installing the new 1" copper piping, inserted though the basement wall directly before the main valve into the existing water meter. Before they left, the barricaded the sides of the trench to help keep kids out of it. The next day, they poured a new sidewalk panel, filled in the trench and seeded/strawed. They also filled the hole under the other portion of the sidewalk with gravel, added topsoil, and seeded/strawed that corner of the lawn as well. Their willingness to bring gravel and pack it under the sidewalk was one of the main reasons we used them over a competitor, and they did such a good job of packing in the gravel that the corner of the sidewalk which had sunk 1/2" when the ground fell away was returned to it's previous height! Their competitor didn't even consider this part of the job, but Brent and his crew felt this was part of doing a complete/finished job, as it was all related to the leak. Brent also sealed off the old water line which came into the floor of the water meter cabinet, so now I'll be able to create 4 square feet of new floor space by shortening the cabinet to no longer reach the floor. Upon my request, they had even agreed to pour an additional concrete pad to fix a drainage problem in the sidewalk (for a reasonable additional charge), but the work crew thought about the issue and suggested a cheaper do-it-yourself option I could do that they felt would better fit my landscaping. I agreed, and will save a few hundred bucks because of it! All work was completed and the crew departed in under 48 hours from when I first called Kramer and Sons for an estimate! The price was over $700 cheaper than their competitor, including work that the competitor wasn't willing to do! I couldn't be happier!
Description of Work: Water service connection pipe (providing water under my lawn to my townhouse) broke and the ground under part of the sidewalk collapsed (sidewalk intact suspended over a cave up to 3' deep at one point). The crew from Kramer and Sons dug a trench through the sidewalk/lawn, laid a new 1" copper pipe to provide water to my townhouse from the valve at the street to the water meter in my laundry room (replacing the 20+ year old "blue brute" plastic piping, filled the trench, packed gravel into the cave under the sidewalk, added topsoil to level the sinkhole in the lawn, seeded/strawed, watered the lawn, and cleaned up thoroughly. They were also courteous and personable, more than willing to answer any questions I had, and to ask me questions to make sure that they were doing the job in a way that would satisfy me.
