Their prices could be better. We've always used Kramer.

Kramer & Sons was not able to provide replacement cartridges that fit. My townhouse was built around 1995. The remedy offered was for them to perform a more expensive replacement procedure that would involve a lot more work. I decided not to take that approach at this time. I will probably consult another plumber to see if the cartridges can be replaced with ones that fit.

Went well. All work was performed professionally and completely.

I had a clogged sink and they were quite responsive. The tech was professional and very friendly. He showed me the price book to confirm that to snake one sink it would be $350 + $50 to show up and then taxes. I paid over $400 to have my sink snaked. The price was steep and because of that, I wouldn't use them again. I gave them a C to average out my dissatisfaction with the price, but overall I have no arguement about the quality of the service.

We are very happy with the service we received and the price we paid. We will call them again.

went fine, thought it would be a small job to repeat a small leaky faucet on a pedestal sink. $350 later, should have just bought a new once from Home Depot and self installed. Rip off. And no military discount.

These are the same guys who did work for me on the septic lines. They were excellent when they did work on septic lines last summer, and were great this time again. It was almost having a trusted 'family member' do the work.

Great. They made necessary repairs, did not appear to oversell, and explained everything. I requested an annual service contract (they were not pushing it). Very courteous and knowledgable.

I had scheduled an appointment between 12-4 p.m. on Tuesday, 1/10/17. Rene, the technician, had a cancellation so the office called to say he could come earlier. He arrived within 40 minutes of the call, listened carefully to the problem, gave me an estimate for the work, and went about his task quickly and efficiently after I agreed to the cost. When he finished, he explained that he needed 35 feet of the snake this time to clear the pipe but it didn't bring up any major material clogging it (last time in 2014, 28 feet was needed to clear it). He suggested that this time it might just have been an accumulation of sludge creating the back-up. He flushed the drain for 15 minutes to ensure that it was clear and cleaned up the garage floor thoroughly before leaving. He suggested that we continue pouring a mix of 1 cup bleach in a gallon of warm water down the drain and the HVAC pipes each month to keep the drain as clear as possible. Rene was very professional, knowledgeable, and courteous. Kramer and Sons have done work in two homes that we've owned since coming to Alexandria in 2002 and we have always been satisfied with their work. Once, we used another plumbing service recommended by a hardware store to install a gas line for an outdoor grill purchased from the hardware store. We later called Kramer to re-do the extremely poor job done by the other company. It is easy to make an appointment with Kramer, the technicians are terrific and truly know their business. They also arrive on time and, if there is a delay, the front office calls you and lets you know. Kramer and Sons is a terrific service provider whom we recommend without hesitation.

it started with a service call fee which they said would not be applied to the work cost and had to be paid separately. not great start but ok. the technician arrived when they said and was very friendly and professional. it told me it was a relatively simple issue that was likely to take no more than 45 min to clear. for that smile less than one hour of labor (no parts required) it was going to cost me $554.72. on top of the service call fee of $59 it was going to be over $600 for less than an hour of labor. i was shocked and called the office. the person i spoke to said that that was the pre-calculated fee and they would not adjusted it based on how easy or difficult the work actually was. i felt that was a ludicrously high rate for an hour of labor and so i said i didn't want the service. to their credit the company voluntarily waived the service call fee for me which i very much appreciated. so i guess i'm left thinking they are a great customer service company with horribly high prices.

The crew from Kramer and Sons were awesome!! They were able to replace the underground water line in a very time efficient manner. They came and inspected the leak the same day I called in asking for the estimate, which happened to be the day before Thanksgiving. They were prompt, courteous, knowledgeable, and did and excellent job on the work that needed to be completed. They obtained all necessary permits and scheduled the county inspector to come out and inspect the completed work on the same day. I received quotes from several other local plumbing companies on Angie's list and decided to go with Kramer and Sons based on the upfront, honest estimate given. The same guys that came out and inspected the leak/took measurements, were also the same crew that performed the work. I was very happy with this aspect since there wasn't a typical "salesman" type estimator who tend to over-charge for the same services. After they took the necessary measurements, they emailed me the written quote the next business day. I put down my 1/3 deposit and they scheduled me to have the work done 2 days later. Based on my past experience with other plumbers, I am glad to have found Kramer and Sons through Angie's list. If I need any other plumbing services in the future, they will be my first call. They did an excellent job. They came over and researched my problem before they ripped up my whole living room floor. They used some kind of new technology. They were wonderful. I really liked them a lot. I would definitely use them again.

Everything was great. I was able to get the first call the day after I called to make the appointment, and the technician was at my house at 8:00 AM. He quickly assessed the water heater and quoted me a fair price for replacement. I agreed, and he got to work right away. He completed the work quickly and left the area cleaner than when he arrived.

The representative on the phone quoted a fair price but was very honest that their schedule was full and he recommended calling someone else. We appreciate honesty and would call them again if we needed service.

Great! The company was very responsive, dispatching a technician within an hour of requesting the service. The technician was prompt, friendly, efficient, and knowledgable. He inspected the pipes beneath the sink, making sure that everything else was in good working order, in addition to installing the disposal.

It went well. The two technicians showed up at the scheduled time, were very polite and throughout the inspection they explained what they were doing and kept me apprised on anything they encountered. Did have to get two capacitors replaced, but seemed reasonable.

It did not go well. The plumber originally said it should take only an hour. But we couldn't completely turn off the water to the house making his soldering very difficult. After multiple tests and six hours of hard work, he finally got the valve on and checked. No leaks so far. It's covered for a year. He was very professional and friendly and did not take a break the entire time. I recommend him and Kramer Plumbing.

I did not have Kramer and Sons do the work because their estimate was incredibly high-- over three times what the cost was for the company we used. (Kramer and Sons estimated $600 and the other company, Haynes plumbing, did the repair for $185). So I can't comment on the quality of Kramer's work. The low rating is exclusively for the price. I will say they were very professional-- appointment was easy to schedule, plumber came right on time. Plumber was an extremely nice guy, spent a lot of time examining our hose bibs. He was also very patient as I attended to several (unrelated) household issues (phone calls, family member) while he was here. So I would give him very high marks for courtesy and professionalism. He looked at our hose bibs and told me he would try to repair them, and if they couldn't be repaired he would need to replace them. Fortunately I asked for an estimate prior to him starting the work. He said it would be about $600 to repair the two hose bibs, and there was a 30 day warranty on the repairs. If he couldn't repair them, it would be $1012 to replace them ($433 for the first, $411 for the second, and $167 to cut the drywall inside the house so he could access one of them from the inside-- the other was already accessible from the inside as it was in the unfinished area of the basement). If he replaced them, the warranty was much longer (I can't remember exactly-- maybe a couple of years). The estimate seemed like a lot to me. I had another highly rated Angle's list company (Haynes plumbing) come out and they fixed both hose bibs for $185 with a 90-day warrantee on the work. So I'm glad I didn't overpay by using Kramer. Of course, the proof will be in how well the hose bibs hold up. I will revise my review if there is a problem.

On the day before I was leaving on a trip, I discovered flooding and mold damage in a small utility closet that contains a hot water heater and stacked washer-dryer unit. Just several months before, we had what turned out to be a leaking pipe in the wall behind a kitchen sink, which our usual plumber couldn't find; we ended up with a plumber recommended by a knowledgeable source, who did extensive repair in a satisfactory manner, but caused us quite a bit of angst when the company hesitated to provide a detailed estimate and invoice for our insurance company. So, even though time was short, I decided to try someone new. Consulting Angie's List and Washington Consumer Checkbook, I found a highly recommended plumbing company near my condominium, but it didn't work at condominiums. This company referred me to Kramer & Sons, whom I also read about in Checkbook and Angie's List. I explained to Kramer & Sons that I was supposed to be going on a trip and needed to know right away what the problem was so I could determine whether I would need to postpone it. Although I hadn't been a customer before, they sent a plumber within a few hours. Working in the utility closet is very difficult because it is such a tight space; other plumbers have refused to move the washer/dryer without additional assistance. Kramer & Sons' plumber didn't hesitate to move the unit, and then actually dove head-first to squeeze in behind it. I assumed that the flooding was related to the hot water heater, washer, or pipes behind the walls because of mold damage to the drywall, but the plumber suspected a blocked floor drain. I didn't know there was a drain in the floor and couldn't see it now due to the water and debris. When he used a snake to clear the drain, he encountered 7 feet of sludge and debris blocking it; but continued on for a total of 25 feet for good measure. The water drained away quickly. When I asked about the damage to the walls, which went 2-3 feet above floor-level, he explained that drywall could absorb water to this extent, and he recommended that I contact a mold remediation company. The plumber was one of the most professional persons I've worked with in any business; he worked quickly, not wasting any time, but still managed to be very personable. I felt highly confident in him, and very grateful for Kramer & Sons' responsiveness.

I was disappointed. They did not have the correct parts and they had to come back a second time. It took them longer than they had anticipated to finish the service. I had to negotiate with them on the price, because the temperature control on my shower was wrong and they had to replace that. They said that they couldn't put it back to what it was. I had to go to Kohl's, I told them that I couldn't pay anymore than what you are asking me to pay. They lowered the service by 30 percent. From the price perspective, it was fine. It is working, but I wasn't satisfied with their further recommendations. The worker was fine. He was able to explain the situation and he did what he was supposed to do.
