Both were extremely large and time consuming jobs. I felt that the price was very competitive and they were very professional about the services performed. Joey was available to answer any of my (many) questions, and he was very honest and upfront about the price and what would be done. Two things that I was especially impressed with were that when we initially had our carpet stair runner replaced we didn't realize that a few months down the road we would then decide to change the color of the floor, which meant that we needed to remove the stair runner and stain the stairs. Instead of charging me again for the installation, he removed that from the price of the job. Additionally, there were a few areas on the hardwoods that I requested that they come back to adjust, and they promptly did so in order to ensure that everything was perfect. I knew that having things 100% to my liking was their ultimate goal, and that type of relationship with a contractor is exactly what you need, especially when you are spending this kind of money. Speaking of the price, I thought it was well worth it - it was a HUGE space and the banister itself must have taken forever to do because it is very large and had to all be sanded by hand. Thank you Dominion Carpet for the wonderful job you did. We absolutely love our "new" floors.
Description of Work: We hired Dominion Carpet to replace our carpets in our upstairs area in all of our bedrooms (in December) and also had them sand and refinish the entire first floor as well as our very large banister and stairs (hired them again in June). They also replaced the carpet runner up the stairs.

This was the worst experience in my life outside of fighting in the middle east for years, and this was a very close second. First, the company came recommended by other angie's list users and seemed reputabile enough. I recieved an estimate from one of the employees and their rate was competitive and they knew what they were talking about as far as hardwood re-finishing so I thought that I'd give them a chance. We scheduled many months in advance for a week we would be out of town and they assured us the work would be completed well within the alloted time and before we returned. Our representative met with us the week before we left, we gave him the key, and paid half ($2,700 USD) of the agreed amount and we were off. We were in Texas for a wedding and family reunion so I began to call the company rep about three days into the trip and recieved no response from him or the front office. I called many times over the week were were away to check on project status and no response was recieved. I finaly reached the rep the day before we flew back and he informed me that they hadn't even started our project yet. So here we are, returning from our trip and we get home to find that the company had showed up to our house that day and the only thing they had done was move the furniture, outside, in the rain. So over the next two weeks we stayed in hotels and with various friends living out of suitcases while little to no work was being done to our floors. When all was said and done, they only worked at the house on 3 seperate occasions and did not complete the work as agreed upon. Work Actually completed: 1. A rough sanding which left floors gauged and created new gaps 2. No gap (newly created or existing) were filled 3. One coat of ployurethane 4. Original 1920's moldings never removed and destroyed throughout the home 5. Two door frames destroyed from the movement of the furniture 6. Furniture frames (from moving) and fabric/ leather (from rain) destroyed 7. Front door damaged from moving of furniture The workers even tried to cover up some or the damages by taking some paint, which didn't even match, and throwing it over the splintered wood and gauges. This was the worst and has made me lose trust in angie's list alltogether.
Description of Work: Provider agreed to refinish all hardwood floors in the house to include: remove molding, move furniture, fill cracks, stain, sand, and apply two coats of sealant.

On the day of the appointment the Dominion Carpet crew arrived exactly at the scheduled time. They asked a few questions about the end color we wanted the wood, and answered a few questions about the timetable, and I took off for work. When I went back to check up on the floor a few days later, it looked great - sanding and staining was even throughout, and I am confident this floor will be a credit to the house as we go to sell. On top of all this, Dominion was the lowest of three estimates. I would absolutely use Dominion again for hardwood floor work.

Dominion Carpet did an excellent job in our home. They refinished hardwood floors on two levels and refinished two staircases. The price was fair and the quality of the work outstanding. They started and completed the job on time. There were no problems, no issues or unexpected surprises. We recommend them without hesitation. The first day of the job, Marvin and his assistant arrived at our home as scheduled. From start to finish, they were very professional, always punctual, trustworthy, courteous and hard-working. They answered all of our questions completely, addressed all concerns we had about the work and were completely honest in every way. When the work was completed, Marvin and his assistant removed all trash and debris resulting from the work and cleaned up the job site at the end of each day. They carefully removed the old shoe molding taking care not to damage the baseboards and floors in the process. They sanded the floors right up to the baseboards, and refinished two staircases. Marvin and his assistant were careful to contain the inevitable dust much better than we expected. They applied three coats of water-borne semi-gloss polyurethane, abrading, vacuuming and tack-clothing between coats. They then installed new shoe molding throughout with attention to details and finishing touches. They are clearly motivated to do very good work and they take justified pride in delivering high quality refinished floors. We are very satisfied with their professionalism and workmanship. Before refinishing, the floors and steps were a mess: unsightly, worn from foot traffic and discolored by ground-in dirt and water stains. Now the floors and stairs are clean, smooth and a strong source of visual and tactile pleasure ? something we didn't have before. Overall, they exceeded our expectations and were a pleasure to deal with. We are comfortable recommending them to our friends and neighbors. Thank you Joey, Marvin and everyone at Dominion Carpet for all you've done.

We chose Dominion per various website reviews, and we had a fairly good experience until after the purchase. We worked with Moe and purchased the Shaw carpet for our townhome. However, when we contacted Moe (the dealer) and Sofia (the office manager) for the information we needed to register our warranty on the Shaw floors website, they gave us the run around. We requested very basic information that was not included on our invoice (i.e. units, units purchased, price per unit), and it took almost 2 months to get a response. After calling the office a few times regarding the missing information, my girlfriend called Moe again for assistance. Instead of receiving help, she received a very ugly phone call from Moe. He called her back yelling at her stating she didn?t need to call/text requesting information that was already provided. By far this is the worst experience we have ever had with a business, and we are sad that we didn?t choose anyone else for our needs. She had to call the office and let them know that Moe could never contact her again; and she was very scared that Moe would show up at our home because he had all of our information. Fortunately, another office manager called a few days later with an apology and the information requested for registration. Bottom line, if you are looking for good customer service end-to-end and professionalism, PLEASE go somewhere else.

The deal was for considerably more square footage than what my project required. They offered to give me some credit since I was not going to be needing all 350 square feet included in the deal. I declined the offer, simply asking that they do a good job. However, they did a terrible job. You can see circular marks where the sander was used. They left bubbles and fingerprints in the varnish. As well as leaving varnish stains on my walls. Under the refrigerator they left a large gob of varnish as well. See included pictures.

I had just purchased an apartment in SW that had parquet floors installed back in 1962. At some point the previous owners had replaced some of the parquet squares which were very noticeable. Joey came for my estimate was very informative and responsive to my needs. When the work crew came they were on time and very informative. I had originally wanted to go with a darker stain but was advised that due to the floors being parquet and previous wear and tear that refinishing with a clear coat would be the best way to make the floors look brand new and hide any scratches and blemishes that currently existed. The work only took two visits over a three day period and the floors look brand new. Any previous stains or faded wood disappeared and the newer parquet squares blended in nicely. They went above and beyond refinishing the insides of the closets and installing base board trim everywhere I wanted, including inside the closets. In addition, they secured a loose parquet panel and added wood puddy to gaps that I asked to fill - all done with no additional charges. I would highly recommend Dominion Carpet for their price, professionalism, expertise, timeliness, and quality job.

The floors look beautiful. Thank you.
Description of Work: Refinishing hard wood floors.
I?d like to summarize first, that I didn?t do my job and speak with other contractors; I made assumptions based on what little I read on Angie?s List and their rating, along with how friendly Joey was. During our project, the communication with Dominion Carpet was difficult at times, they constantly missed scheduled appointments, the expectations that were set were never upheld, and the quality of the work turned out to be; less than professional. If you want the full story, keep reading? I started out on Angie?s List looking to get our hardwood floors refinished, where I ran across Dominion Carpet with a lot of great reviews and an A rating? ?awesome!?. I immediately reached out and a setup a meeting with their field guy; Joey, and was told that he?d be here on a Monday around 8am. I stayed home a little late for work and was contacted about 8:30 by someone at Dominion Carpet that they couldn?t make it and they?d reschedule for Tuesday. ?Hey?, I thought? ?They?re in demand, that should be a good sign?. On Tuesday, Joey did arrive and was polite and overly accommodating to anything we discussed; he realized we actually live here and was willing to make some accommodations to their schedule thus allowing us to relocate larger items (as needed) for the clearing of the floors. ?Where could I go wrong? Just look at their reviews and rating! Let?s do it!? We were scheduled to have our main level sanded, quarter rounds replaced and at least two coats of ? ?whatever makes it look like it did originally?. And that would be ?high gloss?. We wanted to make sure that we were ready for his team to arrive in two weeks, so we had the hardwood professionally deep cleaned by Stanley Steamer. Once everything was dry, my wife and I spent 3 days moving everything out from the main level to either the basement or the upstairs bedrooms, taping up the cabinets, vents, and draping / taping plastic to appliances, shelving, doorways and stairways ? just to prevent as much of the fine sanding dust as possible from getting in ?everywhere?. We also moved all the larger furniture and appliances into the dinning room before taping up those entranceways. The Friday before they?re start day, I text Joey to confirm that we were on schedule for Monday? and I was assured it was. Monday came and the phone rang, evidently their truck broke down and they wouldn?t be able to start until Tuesday. Now I started to feel like this was a mistake, I rushed it. Joey calls me and convinces me that his team will be here and everything will be rainbows and unicorns. Fine. Tuesday arrives and no one is here at 8:30 (start time), I called, text? no answer. Finally, someone calls and says the truck had to come from Chantilly and would be here at 10:30. Then at 11:40, they finally show up. I explained the situation with all the areas being taped off and they understood (at least I think they did), but they started ripping up the quarter round and brining in some equipment for sanding the floors. When the sanding was about to begin, I was approached since they needed to hook up the machine to our dryer power outlet; which was sealed up in the basement. I broke the seal and dragged their long cable to the basement where they used a screwdriver to wedge some exposed wires into the socket. The machine came to life and away they went, everything was sanded down? and the first coat of poly applied. I must say, the floors looked wonderful, except for a small spot they missed around the sliding glass doors. The next day (Wednesday) the team showed up on time and started laying down the second coat of clear poly and left. The fumes were unbelievable so we would continue staying in a hotel with our two dogs. We arrived Thursday to look over the floors and see if we could move the furniture out of the dinning area to finally get that room completed. The floors were not high gloss, more of a matte finish and the floors were rough to the touch ? like it wasn?t sanded yet. There were buffer swirls all over the floor, and the finish had grass, debris from the buffer screen, and even a fly clearly poly?ed right into the floor finish. We called and informed Joey about the situation and was assured on Friday his team would arrive and fix everything ? including apply a coat of high gloss. On Friday, the team arrived ? I pointed out the spot that was missed by the sliding glass door, all the swirls, fly and other debris that was imbedded into the finish. While one rebuffed the floor with a screen, the other guy had to leave and buy the high gloss finish. They vacuumed the floors after the screening, applied the finish ? we all left until Saturday. On Saturday, we arrived and the floors were beautiful, except for a few spots where they completely missed spreading the gloss and some scuffing on the walls from where the buffer struck it; we?d let them know, but started moving the furniture out so they could start on the dinning room and we could consider moving home. I text Joey to find out the next start date to finish the dinning room, but I never heard back? then on Tuesday the guys show up, and of course we?re not ready. After a few phone calls and texting back and forth, it was agreed that they?d return a week from Tuesday to finish the dinning room (it was their next availability). The following Tuesday (start day), I received a call that some guy didn?t show up for work so they needed to reschedule for Wednesday. On Wednesday they showed up and buffed, sanded and applied one coat of poly, they also brushed over some spots that they missed earlier, but since no one actually cleaned the area first, we now have spots with dog hair and/ or other debris imbedded there. Still not happy with the quality of the work, my wife had been trying to get someone over to inspect their work and let us know if this is living up to their standards. Juan showed up Thursday and accepted that in fact, this was the expected outcome. Swirls happen, floors can still be a little rough, and hey? missing areas with poly is common with large rooms. They applied the second coat of poly to the dinning room and were gone. Now, about eight weeks have passed and the floors ? well, we?re living with them; obviously. They do look a little better than they looked before and we?ve come to overlook the swirls, and debris imbedded in the finish. We?ve also come to ignore the touch up spots that weren?t cleaned first and now just have dog hair stuck there.

We try to do a great job all the time but when clients leave their pets run around the house and destroy the work that has been done it makes it very difficult to achieve the results that you want. The job got finished correctly after having to redo it several times due to the fact that pets were left loose, then we get a D? Thank you

Dominion Carpet did a superb job. We had to replace the carpet in our rec room which is 11 ft x 23 ft. They showed up exactly when promised with the carpet we had picked out. Within an hour and a half, the job was done. The work was done professionally, on time and with high quality. Their price was less than the other estimates we got and included no extras that we got with other estimates, such as a fee to move furniture, take up and haul away the old carpet and pad, and come do an estimate. This is a go getter company that deserves a good look.

I highly recommend Dominion Carpet. They were 25% less expensive than our other quotes, prompt, punctual, available as quick as I desired (32 crews), and did flawless work. Our two man crew sanded 950 sq.ft of 1933 and new oak the first day, working continuously, and then put a coat of urethane down in each of the next three days. There are no ripples, runs, or gouges. Both the old and new look great. Thanks Dom.Carpet.
Description of Work: Sanded and polyurethaned oak floors.
We were in a unique situation and they worked with our very tight schedule. We were purchasing a house and needed to get the floors done before moving in and prior to the official close date, which was a 3 day window. The floors are beautiful!! We had a few issues with the crew neglecting to tarp before sanding (requiring lots of extra cleaning) and some sloppiness on the stairs but we were fairly and quickly compensated! All in all they did a beautiful job and we're able to do the job quickly. Highly recommended!

Joey was very professional and patient throughout my month long decision making process in which I got various quotes and ideas to match and transition to my current hardwood floors in my open floor plan. In the end, he got the job with the best price and by agreeing to interweave/interfit the new strips with the old to create a seamless transition. Two installers arrived who were very nice and competent but we had a bit of a language communication problem about the transition. I called Joey and he checked in by phone several times during the day and made sure all my concerns were addressed. The two installers were very responsive and competent. The finished floors are interwoven as agreed and look fantastic!! I am so thrilled. I would hire them again; I highly recommend.

MAGNIFICO! The floors look awesome and I intend to add photos. I don't believe you will find a better deal for the money and would go with Dominion Carpet again. Special thanks to Orlando, Manuel, Antonio, Alex, Jose, and Joey and I few others whose names escape me. DO's: Listen to Joey regarding advise to wait to paint the rooms until after the floors are done. I hired one of the workers to do some paint in between the floor jobs and it may have been better if I would have waited. Regarding billing: To be clear I am happy with the end product and believe the pricing was fair despite some possible overly zealous statements made during the sale (before work was completed). I was advised I would receive felt for the furniture which later became my getting reimbursed for felt I purchased. (I will amend this if I do get reimbursed but that has not happened to date). Also, the invoice showed a $400 charge for a third coat of high gloss finish when I received two high gloss coats but the floors look awesome and again, I don't think you will find a better deal for the money. I did email the biller about this but have not yet received a response. Bottom line it was still an awesome deal. The floors look AWESOME and YES, I would go with Dominion again. I hope I'm able to insert the photo's on Angie's list so you can see and judge for yourself.
Description of Work: Refinished middle and upper floors of house. Did an awesome job working around my schedule too so the floors were done separated by a 2 week period during which I had family visiting from out of town.
********STAY AWAY FROM "MO" AND DOMINION CARPER********* I typically don't write bad reviews, but the experience with this company was so terrible, it's important for others to know and be very careful. Lies after lies from "MO" the owner of Dominion Carpet. I would rate this below an "F" if that was possible. JOB: To sand and refinish floors, steps and all hand railing in the house. 1. "MO" the owner doesn't have his last name of his business card. He won't email you an estimate unless you really push for it. He wants to come to you with the contract and try to close you on the spot. "Red Flag" 2. I asked many times if the workers were employees or contractors. He said employees. Once the job started, it turned out they are contractors. They are employees of AD FLOORS, LLC in Maryland. LIE 3. MO said they use a state of the art machine which would leave about 5% - 10% dust. They use an old machine where 40% of the dust went all over our furniture, clothes and walls. LIE 4. We had asked to use the "BONA QUICK DRY" product since that dries in 2 hours. The cost of this product is about $7.56 a quart. We were trying to save money on the hotel expense since the VOC smell isn't good for anyone especially children. We have 3 small children. MO said, if we want to use the BONA QUICK DRY product, it would cost an extra $1,500 given the much higher cost of this product. ANOTHER LIE 5. MO claimed to finish the job in 4 days. It took 5 days and it still isn't finished. The stainfrom the wood railing is on the walls and floors. Some steps only received 1 quote of stain vs. the 3 we had contracted. The job is very sloppy. We're hiring another company to finish the job. Once the new company finishes the job, we'll file a court case in Fairfax county to recover the funds from DOMINION CARPET/ MO. After further review, Dominion Carpet is rated a "F" by the Better Business Bureau. ********STAY AWAY FROM "MO" AND DOMINION CARPER*********

The project started on the agreed to date and the bulk of the work was completed in approximately a week which is not bad for a job this size. We are very appreciative of Joey's advice and of the crews' professionalism and hard work. They really worked very hard! 40-something years later, our floors look beautiful again. Don't hesitate - Dominion Carpet will take care of your floors at a reasonable cost.
