We left for vacation the Tuesday before Thanksgiving only to find out from our neighbors that gas was leaking from our recently deceased furnace. Our contact Tsengel sent Kevin P.to give a quote. We received two quotes from contractors we used in the past and the Cyprus quote was $1,000 less than the other quote. They scheduled and installed the new furnace on December 4 by Jonathan R. and Steven C. All four staff were great and we are happy with the results.
Description of Work: Cyprus replaced our non-working furnace with a newer model.

Very professional and punctual. However, I was told this was the vent cleaning that included a wire brushing of the venting system rather than just a vacuum. This service was good, but was just the vacuum, not what I thought I had ordered. It may have been a misunderstanding and either way the service provided was good, and workmen were very professional and helpful.

I thought that they provided a perfectly fine service and were responsive, gave me the data that I needed, and talked through the issues of the cost of repair versus replacement so they were helpful.
Description of Work: I used the Big Deal for Cyprus Air Heating, Cooling and Fireplaces. My air conditioning was not working and they said that I needed a new air conditioner. I presume they are correct so based on that, I replaced my air conditioning. I did not get the freon and other things because they said it wouldn't have made a difference because the air conditioning needed to be replaced. They came out but they didn't do the full tune up because the air conditioner wasn't working.

All went well until the permitting inspection. Twice they supposedly scheduled the inspection, but had not. So I lost two days of work. During the first day, I called several times to confirm the date, but the lady who could help me never returned the call. The inspector never showed. Two days later, I called Cyprus again and asked why the inspector had never shown, and they admitted it had not been scheduled. They asked for a new date, and said they were scheduling the new date "as we speak." The second day arrived, and I called the city inspection office in the morning. Surprise! No inspection had been scheduled. It turns out the permit had expired, and Cyprus had installed the logs without extending the permit. Took me two minutes over the phone with the city to extend the permit and schedule an inspection. But that will be my third day off of work for what should have been a routine issue for Cyprus. When the inspector arrived, he noted they had the wrong permit. Trying to get it sorted out over the phone was impossible - my husband had to go down there and sort it out. A few months later, a sensor failed in the system. It was under warranty, but the labor charge of $180 to walk in the door is excessive.
Description of Work: Install gas fireplace log set. Later came to repair under warranty in Feb 2015.

My air conditioning was broken. So, having it tuned up wasn't really useful. The initial quote to just fix it was a billion dollars. Then they actually gave me a quote to replace the entire air conditioning system for $10,000. So, it was horrible. I actually just talked with some friends who had had good experiences with another company and got a quote for $1000 to fix it, versus a $2000 quote to fix it, I had gotten from the other company. So, it wasn't a great experience. I had told them explicitly that my unit is on the roof. They didn't bring a ladder. This is downtown Washington DC and you all live in town houses. So, it's not that crazy to know that you need a ladder. They were responsive.

I didn't feel that they did a thorough job. First they said that they would have to remove all the vent covers to do the cleaning, then they didn't remove a single cover. I also asked if I could see what came out of the vents and there was hardly anything. We had never cleaned the vents, we have three dogs. I expected a lot more to come out of the vents

They did a good job. They recommended to come back and clean my compressor. They gave me a quote for about $380 to do the extra work which I decided not to do. What they did was the inspection and they did a good job. There were some scheduling issues. They offered good price. It was just the scheduling that was why they were a B but other than that, they were fine.

The initial visit was for routine service. My appointment time was in the window of 10am-2pm. A/C had been running warm air. Technician called at 12::30pm to say he'd be here in 30mins, he arrived at 4:30pm. Upon arrival technician looked at machine and said that it was old and that I ought to think about replacement which was completely valid the unit was 20 years old. So he ended up not performing the routine service that I purchased from Angies list and instead provided me a quote for replacement. The quote he provided was $5800 for a 3.0 Ton Carrier system. This was a great price! I had been quoted $12,000 from Sears on a Carrier 3.5 Ton system earlier in the summer and this was half of that so I was thrilled. I was slightly apprehensive because I thought the size was too small for my house but they assured me this was the appropriate size. On top of the great price they could install the system in two days. I signed a contract and they took a $3000 deposit. This is when my experience went downhill. After reviewing the photos of my old system the office manager called me to say that they needed to move the location of my A/C because it was not up to code and that would be an additional $2200. I was able to negotiate the cost down to $1000 but this still didn't sit well because I had already signed a contract and they provided a quote based on what they had seen. The installation crew called at 9am to say that they would be here in 15-30mins, after an hour passed I called back to see if there was a problem, was told they were stuck in traffic but they should be here in 15mins. They finally arrived about an hour later. Install was smooth for the most part however they constantly had to leave for additional supplies. A week later I had a new Water heater installed and was informed that it needed to be inspected by WSSC and that the new furnace should have been inspected too. Cyprus did not inform me that furnace needed to go thru inspection and as it turns out they did not install furnace to code, was told the pipes are combustible and they were too close to wood doors and posed a fire hazard. When called they came out and fixed issue within a couple of days but the situation could have been avoided especially since they told me the additional cost was to make sure it was up to code.
Description of Work: Provider initially came out for an A/C inspection/routine service. Service provider replaced A/C and Furnace.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. If I could give this company a negative grade, I would. After being overcharged, lied to, and given empty promises for over a month that I'd be reimbursed over $1,000, I want to warn other people to avoid this company at all costs. Sadly, I will likely have to take these jokers to small claims court. If you don't want the same fate, learn from my experience. In early June, I used an Angie's List deal for Cyprus Air that allowed for general maintenance plus one pound of refrigerant. My A/C system was in good working order; I just wanted to make sure it was good to go through the summer. The first tech, Levi, said that I would need about $1,400 worth of repairs (equipment, additional refrigerant, products, and labor). The majority of the cost was the additional refrigerant, plus labor. Based on the good review on Angie's List (I should have seen Yelp's review!), I agreed to Levi's suggestions even though I was surprised by the massively high bill. I went away for vacation and, when I came back, turned on my A/C. The outside unit (compressor) started shaking violently and making a loud noise that could have raised the dead. I could feel the shaking of the compressor inside my house in the floors! I immediately called Cyprus who said they'd come out the next day, despite my request to come that afternoon. A second tech (Ken) came and diagnosed the problem: the first tech had overfilled the compressor with dangerously too much refrigerant, which may have caused permanent damage to the compressor (requiring the replacement of at least the compressor if not the whole A/C system!). He commented that Levi must have just graduated from tech school, as the amount he put in was obviously too high. This obviously made me question whether any of the other products and equipment he installed were even necessary!! Ken promptly removed the R22. However, then he said my coil was dirty and should be cleaned as well, adding that the charge would be $350! I declined, saying I could do it myself (with a jug of NuBrite for $20). He said, "Well, how about $100?" I again said no, explaining that for half a jug of NuBrite I could do it myself. I went in the house and came back. Guess who was cleaning my coil? I insisted I would NOT pay for it and he agreed. Apparently Cyprus Air encourages their techs to barter on pricing. Nevertheless, Ken agreed and the system appeared to be functioning normally. Thus began what is now an two month old adventure with Shanita Ramos and Vasty Martinez of Cyprus' maintenance department. Obviously I was not going to pay for the refrigerant nor frankly any of the other equipment or services that were provided, as the first tech clearly lied in order to make himself and the company more money. After explaining the situation to Shanita, she agreed to act as my advocate to resolve the situation. But it quickly became clear that that wouldn't be the case... She kept making promises to look into my account and that she or someone would get back to me via phone or email. There was usually a promise of "within 24 hours" or "by Tuesday at 5pm." It never happened. Not once. It took days after her promise to get any kind of response. Finally, I demanded involvement of the operations manager, Ms. Martinez. At first, I had high hopes... Vasty apologized and, after I explained precisely what happened, she agreed that they made a mistake and that I would be reimbursed. We negotiated on the amount, agreeing that Cyprus owed me over $1,000; all of it was documented via email (and available if you desire to see it...happy to forward it along). It's been over a month and I have received NOTHING. I've called numerous times and been given an excuse each time, including the infamous, "The check's in the mail!" Obviously it is not. I anticipate taking them to small claims court. It's bizarre... I have everything in writing, including their agreement to reimburse me for over $1,000. On a final note, cancel your credit card if you experience this. I did, and glad for having the foresight to do it... Cyprus tried to bill me a monthly "Membership Fee" despite all of this ridiculousness. Their finance department even called to get a new credit card number! I wish they would just send me the money that they owe me... It just won't end.

They gentleman advised before even inspecting my unit that I would need an entirely new unit. He ordered a new coil and told me it was $1,880 for that. I was supposed to pay $745 on the first day, but was actually $795. They were supposed to take $50 off for the inconvenience. They ended up installing the wrong coil. I called them on June 2nd, because the unit wasn't working. They advised me that the system was frozen and they couldn't do anything until it thawed. On June 5th, another technician came out and said they valve core was leaking. He said that I shouldn't have had a new coil installed at all. He said the only issue the entire time was that the valve core was leaking. That was the only issue with my unit from the very beginning. I was supposed to be charged another $89 that day, but I refused to pay it. They ended up waiving that fee. On June 9th, another technician came out and advised me that the coil was the incorrect one. They put the wrong unit in and the air wasn't moving properly. This technician said he wasn't going to perform the work with the incorrect coil. It should have been an A coil and they put a N coil in. He ordered a new coil and said they would be back out in 2 days to install it. On June 11th, they took out the N coil and put the A coil in. That didn't correct the problem. My unit is still leaking and ruining my carpet. You can see where the mold is setting in on my carpet. It is turning different colors from the leak. Now I have to go purchase new carpet and my unit isn't even fixed yet. June 11th was the last time they were at my house. The company called me on August 9th, at 11:25 pm and advised me they would have someone at my house first thing in the morning. They called again at 9:46 am on August 10th to advise me that they were trying to figure out a time to schedule me. They told me to call them back in 30 minutes, but I refused. I've tried calling them multiple times in the past and they never answer. I'm tired on calling them. As of 2:00 on August 10, no one has called me or shown up to complete the job.

He went to the wrong address at first. He showed the tenant how to set the thermostat and he said that the filter needed to be changed. He didn't change it though. He was very nice.

The Air Conditioner only worked for 2 hours after they fixed it. They charged me quite a bit of money over the amount the Big Deal. Now I have to get another provider to do the work.

The service was free. They installed the fireplace in March 2014 and did the maintenance in October. Nothing really stood out about them.

They were late to every appointment. When given a 4 hour window they consistently showed up at the end of the 4 hours or later. The work was done by employees that did not speak English, communication was impossible. When a request was made for at least one English speaker, it was not honored. They were messy, damaged furniture. Communication with the office was extremely poor, calls were not returned or took days to get returned. There were several delays that were caused by Cypress Air loosing paperwork. For instance, request for meter split to the gas company sat in their office somewhere for more than ten days, before I received a call asking had I turned it in to them? That resulted in the start of the process being delayed. Their technicians were so bad that they left tools, ladders, tarps after they were done. The entire process ended up taking more than two months. It was a nightmare. I would never, ever work with this company!
