Cyprus Air Heating, Cooling and Fireplaces

Great work and our HVAC is working just fine.

Well it's been kind of a hassle. They had a big sale going on for about a month so I guess a lot of people bought fireplaces at the same time so I had a hassle getting scheduled for them to come out here and they just brought the fireplaces out last week. Everything went well once the fireplaces got here. They said they had to order some parts, some parts was at the fireplace, one of them. I ordered two, one vented and one unvented. And they said they had to order some parts for the vented one. One the workmen got here they were great but it was just trying to get somebody here with the fireplaces to install them was the hassle.

Everyone at Cyprus Air was helpful. They did a excellent and complete job. I have recommended them to many friends.

Cyprus Air Rep arrived on time was pleasant and professional. He corrected a minor problem. Excellent Service. Glad we have a service contract with Cyprus Air.

Tomas honored every request like a seasoned pro; always concerned about how we wanted them to proceed, which air vents needed extra attention without wasting time. Thank you Tomas and Marlon for a job well done. We have used Cyprus Air since 2007 and we are still pleased with their quality of work, not cutting corners as well as their workmen. MJ and Chris were the technicians from Cyprus Air that came to do my HVAC Maintenance. They were very professional and knowledgeable. They took the time to explain the mechanics of the furnace. I was very pleased and will continue to use Cyprus Air.

Tried to sell new AC/heat unit at very high price. Did not catch flooding system or rusted furnace.

Javier was very hospitable and friendly. He was kind to address my concerns and to put me at ease concerning my issues I had addressed. He also shared an idea that I will consider in the near future.

The best I can say for Cyprus is that they're unreliable, untrustworthy and, really, kinda sleezy. When one night last week my husband and I turned on the gas fireplace unit that Cyprus originally installed only five years ago, the gas logs emitted such a frighteningly strong chemical odor that we turned it off immediately, opened all the windows, and called Cyprus for service. In the five years we've had these gas logs we've only lighted them maybe three times. Two Cyprus technicians, Harry and Gene, arrived on Monday and told us that the gas valve was faulty. This valve, they said, had been a long-standing defect of the manufacturer's. (If this is true and Cyprus knew this, why did they continue to install it??? Gas valves are low-tech devices; been around for a century or more. No excuse for faulty.) And, oh, by the way, said Harry and Gene, the burner should be replaced, too. All this on a unit lighted maybe three times in five years. ( I never had any confidence in the thing and was always hesitant to use it. It seemed never to heat up correctly. Once, because it wouldn't heat up enough, a gust of cold air coming down the chimney blew out the pilot light, which was an ordeal to re-light.) For all this, Harry and Gene would give us a "special" price just shy of $1,000, this on top of the $230 service fee, and oh, let's add in the monthly check-up fee of twenty-something bucks. So now we're into them for $1200-plus. Harry and Gene didn't have the necessary parts on their truck (of course not! ), but because their schedule was light that week, they said they'd be back the next day with the parts to do the installation. Naturally, they were a no-show. When I called Cyprus on Tuesday, the day we were expecting Harry and Gene, Cyprus claimed they knew nothing about any of this and did not have us on the schedule, although they could schedule us for Thursday. So, we scheduled for Thursday. Well, Thursday came and still no Cyprus technician, Harry, Gene or anybody else. Once again, when I called and finally, finally, finally got through (Cyprus has a terrible answering service--actual humans---who do not deliver messages), Cyrus claimed no knowledge of the situation and, once again, didn't have us on the schedule. Finally, I had enough. Cancel, I said. Oh, but that's not possible, said the Cyprus rep. Get me a manager, I said. This turned out to be a guy named Gordon. Gordon also refused to cancel, blah blah-ing his way through a reason why by claiming that indeed some guy named Marcel was at that very moment madly driving toward our house---"within the limits of the law, of course" said Gordon, a phrase I quote here for its irony ----new gas valve and burner in tow, Marcel sent specially from distant Maryland to our home in Virginia to make repairs to our unit and to our complete satisfaction. Oh, and to compensate you for your trouble, says Gordon, I'd like to offer you an upgrade on your monthly service and at a reasonable cost. . . . . It was at that moment that all the alarm bells went off in my head---ding, ding, ding, ding, ding!----and with Gordon still on the line trying to "sell me up," my husband got on the other line with our credit card company and stopped Cyprus's $1200-plus charge from going through. Despite what Cyprus says, cancellation is indeed possible! And so long as we're on what's possible, I seriously doubt that it was possible that there was anyone, whether he was named Marcel or Harry or Gene or whatever, speeding in our direction or any other direction, on a mission to insure customer service. That's because, for whatever else Cyprus may be about, it isn't customer service. Or safety. Fireplace logs are a gas appliance. And a gas appliance needs to be installed and maintained correctly. Safety is the main issue, and I have absolutely no faith that safety is number one at Cyprus. For now, our gas logs remain shut down. I know that through Angie's List we'll find a competent technician, one we can trust, one who knows his business, one who, unlike Cyprus, won't make us feel as if we're being screwed.

I initially chose Cyprus over their competitors because of the price tag for our large-scale furnace work. They were middle of the road and seemed fine at first. We got the quote for the furnace in the fall, but after finding out it would take a few months for the gas line to be run from the street by city officials, we opted to start the process in the spring and weather the winter with our old furnace. Unfortunately the furnace broke after Christmas, so I called Cyprus, who I hadn't yet signed a contract with yet, but told them I would be. Their serviceman arrived late and told me it would be $1475 to fix the old oil furnace, even after I told him we'd be replacing it in 3 months with a $10000 contract with Cyprus. He suggested I use space heaters. I looked into the issue more and realized I could fix it myself. I order the parts and swapped the blower motor in less than an hour for a total cost of $85. $1400 less than what they had quoted me. Then, after two months of calling and emailing to start the new furnace process, they wanted to send out a new rep. I took off work and was home for the three hour window they gave me. No one showed. So, after I called them AGAIN, the rep I had been talking to asked to reschedule again. I told him I had other offers on the table and he suggested that I go with them. When your own representatives say to go with the competition, something is seriously wrong and that problem is not at their level, it's higher up. So I fired them, went with the slightly more expensive competition and was extremely happy. Unless Cyprus makes some drastic changes, I would steer very clear of them.

We visited to showroom in Alexandria in November and spent at least two hours looking at the log sets they had on display. We debated between the vented (need to use the chimney) and non-vented logs and after a recommendation from the Salesman, Nick, we decided to go with the vented logs that resembled a real fire and he claimed the campfire still put out a fair amount of heat and was about 60% efficient, opposed to the 99% efficiency of the non-vented logs. We were told that the price included 20 feet of pipe as well as the installation of the logs. When we were placing the order for our gas logs, Nick informed us that because we lived in the City of Alexandria there would be an addiction fee of $650 for inspection fees, which seemed pretty steep so I did a little investigating. Come to find out after calling the City, the permit was only $120! I called Cyprus about the exurbanite fee they changed and demanded a refund for the difference. They told me that had to submit drawings and a plan to pull the permit and there were a lot of man hours involved in the design of the gas line. Again, FALSE! They pulled the permit a week before the project manager from Cyprus even came to do the pre-inspection and I again called the City and they said that drawings were not required for a gas log install. Now, onto the pre-inspection. The gentleman came out and told us that we were going to have to run the gas line outside, around the bump out for the fireplace and then back into the fireplace. Not knowing the logistical possibilities and guidelines for gas line install, and assume that he was an ?expert? we went with it. When it finally came time for the install, we scheduled a date, and day of the scheduled install the canceled. Scheduled another date for 8:00 AM and they arrived at 3:00 PM and decided that it was going to be a bigger job than they had anticipated and asked if they could come back another day. So that is two days off of work and no work had been completed. Finally, they came out for the install and the only glimmer of redemption was the installer that sent, Jon. Jon looked around, went to the basement, shimmied himself into the crawlspace and said, ?I can make this much neater and cleaner than what you were previously told. I am going to run the line out of the basement, into the crawlspace, and out next to the fireplace. You will only see about two feet of pipe outside, instead of 28.? So going back to the permit issue, if it was in fact true that they needed drawings to the permit, that all went out the window with this new plan. The logs were installed just before Christmas, but the line had not been pressure tested nor had a final inspection been completed. We were told we could use the logs over the holidays and to call and schedule a pressure test in the New Year. We turned the logs on using the remote and the flame flickered nicely, but no heat was radiating from the logs as promised. We let it burn for three hours, nothing? Since the inspections hadn?t occurred yet, I figured it would be best to turn the gas off using the Dante Key valve that was installed next to the fireplace. I couldn?t budge the valve, it was completely seized. We went down to the showroom and met with our salesman and explained the problems we were having, and showed him pictures our log set. He agreed it did not look correct and scheduled a tech to come out to the house the following Monday and instructed us to turn the gas off in the basement. . The tech attached the pressure gauge and said he would be back after the inspector came to fix the Dante Valve and install a new gas log set. The inspector came on Tuesday and good news, we passed. H was there a total about three minutes, looked at the gauge and left. So today a new tech came out and asked why the log set was not connected and asked the reason for the service call, seriously?!? Did I mention that Cyprus charged my Credit Card for the remained balance about three weeks ago prior to the job being completed or the inspections? My recommendation, save yourself a bunch of headaches and lot of money and PLEASE TAKE MY ADVICE, DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY !!! I have lost two days of work and They have the WORST customer service of any company I have ever dealt with, an absolute NIGHTMARE !!!

I purchased a gas log set last February during President's Day sales. Installation was fine though the control box was a bit forward in the fireplace, interfering with the existing screen which I intended to replace with glass doors since the flue must remain open all the time. No problems until this holiday season during which we used the fireplace a few times. Last week it was used one night, and the next day it would not light and the pilot seems to be out. Contacted Cyprus since it is less than a year old and had to explain the situation to 3 different people. The last rep finally said that maintenance must be performed every year and gave me the options - a $200+ service contract plus $22/month for a service call now and one later in the year, or $464 for one visit - essentially the same high price. When I stated that the cost was quite high the rep stated that it is a luxury item, which seems to be the only reason for the price. I said that I was going to shop around and was informed that any service provided by another company would void my warranty. I questioned how that would void a manufacturer's warranty. I was able to find contact information for the manufacturer and posed the question to them. The explained that they will honor the warranty through another dealer but some dealers won't cover sets not purchased through them. Can't really recommend this company.

All aspects from scheduling, price, getting the job, and the professionalism of tech and company were outstanding.
