We contacted them for an estimate and proposal for landscape an hardscape work. They arrived when agreed and gave a good presentation. They were a bit pricey, but I liked their more involved and aggressive approach to dealing with our water and drainage issues in the back, and I felt their hardscape and landscape plan was more enduring and fit better with our long term goals. We just had to scale back the project scope. They started on time, the product looks great, drainage issues seem resolved as well as I expected or more. I've done my homework and have developed the grass, which is in a sunlight challenged area, but they did everything right to get it a good start and gave me some advice on how to maintain it as well. I do feel they cut corners a teenie bit on the quality of the plantings, and I had four expensive evergreens that died 1,2,3,4 over the course of the summer, that may or may not have been a care issue on my part, but later in the spring when I ask them to come by to look at what could be done, they did not show up for that appointment. There was also a final sand application to the pavers that I had to follow up on, but they did respond to that call when I called to remind them they missed it. Overall, however, I was impressed at how often they did answer when I called(i.e. didn't have to play phone msg tag). That one item was the only time when they did not follow thru properly. And, when they didn't show, I didn't press them, because, by then I was more educated on evergreens {they're hard to turn once they begin to decline} and was on the fence about who was more to blame. I guess I will let the reader decide for themselves if I was right to cave or should have pressed on that one. Overall, 90% excellent and proud and impressed with our new oasis, 10% not so satisfied and a bit conflicted.

Our townhome required a new patio so got a few quotes. Cutting Edge came in with a competitive quote and did a great job. They were detailed in measuring, explaining the project and made sure they were following the guidelines set up by our condo association before the appointment. They were able to work with us in re-using brick to minimize costs. The workers were able to finish in a day and the patio looks fantastic.

This company does an excellent job with most of the services they provide us. The spring and fall cleanup and mulching left our yard looking fantastic. Their lawn service workers are fast and thorough, and Brian is always around to supervise, answer questions, provide quality control. The leaf removal was VERY late this year. They were supposed to do this 3 times throughout the fall, but didn't schedule us until December, so they only removed leaves once, after several phone calls to the front office. We have now removed the gutter cleaning from our contract, because they just did not do a good job of that. Both in the spring and fall we had to have them return. In the spring their workers at the end of the cleaning failed to wind our 300 ft. hose onto the hose caddy, leaving a jumbled, tangled mess. In the fall the downspouts were not cleaned out, so at the first rain the gutters clogged up and spilled over. Both times, Brian brought his crew back and rectified the problems. For some reason, the staff who do the lawn fertilizing do not leave any kind of indication that they have come; no doorknob notice or yard sign. The only way you know the work has been done is by receiving an invoice in the mail! The front office staff is very slow to respond and don't seem to be very efficient or proactive. But if you email Kevin or Brian, you get a very fast answer, and they are responsive. So, on the whole the quality of their work is mixed--great yard, flowerbed, leaf cleanup and response from the top staff; not so good with other services (gutter cleaning, scheduling, and front office staff).

The front yard looks brand new and professionally managed. Clearly I could not do this myself. For sure I appreciate the work done by this company. I have already recommended them to co-workers.

I requested an estimate of dollars and time. They came out, and I outlined what neede3d to be done. I received a written estimate, and a maintenance agreement the next day. Their crew came out on the date and time agreed on. At the end of the day, 90% of the desired work was done. The returned the next day, and finished the job. The yard was cleaned up, the leaves and shrubs removed, and all debris removed. As agreed on.

I was really impressed with Kevin from the beginning. I had received one estimate before Kevin came out to give me one, and I liked the amount of time he spent really thinking about our problems and we felt that he offered much better and more permanent solutions to our problems. He was also significantly less expensive than the other company that performed an estimate for us, almost $1000 less! Initially, we had no intention of replacing our patio because it was an expense that we didn't feel like taking on, but we were so impressed with Kevin's estimate of all the other work we needed to get done, that we decided to just go ahead and get the patio. We are so glad we did. It is beautiful and our whole yard is 100% better than it was before. It went from being an eyesore and an embarrassment to something we are proud of. The workers were pleasant and I liked that there was a manager onsite everyday to oversee what was being done. The manager, who I think was named John, was really courteous and installed extra river rock in certain places that we felt were necessary even though it wasn't on the estimate and he didn't charge extra for it. I decided to give the company a 'B' for responsiveness just because there were times when it took a few days to hear back from Kevin prior to the work getting started. There were some decisions that we had to make in terms of what pavers to choose for our patio and whatnot and I might have had a few more questions than the average person. I don't know if this response time is typical, but we were very eager to get our back yard done prior to the onset of really cold weather, so it could be hard to wait for an answer from him. But with that being said, he always did return calls and emails, and he was very thorough. And, I thought that it's probably a sign that the company is doing well and getting a lot of business. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to anyone.

I was very happy with the quality of the work. The beds looked great after they finished and the work was thorough. They did everything they quoted. The only problem I had was with scheduling and communication. I needed to have the work done quickly because the house was on the market and I needed to enhance its curb appeal, hopefully prior to Labor Day weekend. They were very quick to do the estimate and said the timing was good because they are not as busy late summer as they were earlier in the summer. I paid the 50% deposit in mid-August using my credit card, faxing the information, thinking that would expedite scheduling. Days went by. Apparently someone wrote my phone number down wrong. Finally the job got scheduled two weeks later. Then they did not show up as scheduled or even contact me to explain. They called the following week with a profuse apology and a commitment to be there the week after, which they were. So the time from my initial contact to the completion of the job was probably at least a month, which was longer than I really wanted to wait.

We were VERY impressed with Cutting Edge Lawn and Landscaping. Joe did the initial walk-thru with us and designed the yard. The design was perfect for what we wanted (simple, clean, professional look). We needed the job done in a rush (short notice) and they were able to respond and get the job done in the timeframe we needed. Everyone we interacted with was very friendly and professional. My wife did most of the coordiantling and was there when the work was performed. Brian and his workers did the actual work and I couldn't beleive my eyes when I got home after the work was completed. It was amazing and looked so much better than I imagined and they even cleaned up areas of our yard that we didnt ask them to work on just to make it look that much better. Brian added a nice touch by adding subtle lines to the lay of the grass like a baseball diamond. We would recommend this group to anyone. -Greg

I found them to be a little expensive, but they did a very large amount of work and I was very happy with them overall.

I think for the price I paid it could have been better and they could of done more but overall they were good.

We initially met with Joe, who listened to our description of the work to be done and viewed our current landscaping. In response, he provided a plan for the renewal. He had great insight into a number of types of plants to fit our needs and after a dialog of his suggestions we arrived at a plan. Brian and his team of two showed up on schedule and worked very hard for two days. Their work was excellent. Brian was very knowledgeable about plants and their care. His insights and expertise in applying mulch will definitely help in preventing further problems with our landscaping. Brian also agreed to lay down sod in an area that was not considered in the original contract. The sodded area was in a somewhat difficult place, but the workers did an excellent job with the installation. Before the workers left, they cleaned up all of the debris, and were not satisfied until they heard we were satisfied with the finished job. Needless to say we are extremely pleased! Thank you, Cutting Edge!

Overall, the job went well. One of the beds they revised was overrun with an invasive herb; they pulled all of it up, planted, then mulched. I was disappointed that they didn't do something more permanent about the herb, since it came back right away. I didn't discuss this issue with them prior to the work, so I guess I expected them to know how to deal with the problem - and do it. My only "dont" is to not assume that they will do anything beyond what's on the contract, even if it makes sense.

It worked out fine. I was okay with the pricing.

The semi annual yard clean up is very routine. It always goes well. They book up fast so booking them early is advised.

It was such a delight to work with Kevin and John, co-owners of the Cutting Edge,. Their entire team was professional and youcould tell that they enjoyed what they were doing. Kevin came out and talked to us about our issues and made suggestions as to whatmight work. After he gave us the estimate, he came to our home and went over all of that estimate giving us a detailed explaintionas to what would be done, how long it would take and an estimated start date.The job started when promised. The crew was tidy about their work and cleaned up after themselves at the end of each day.We are extremely pleased with the work that was performed. They actually care about their clients.

We couldn't be happier with the services provided by Cutting Edge. The work they did to clean-up and landscape our front and back yards was wonderful. We've met several members of the staff and they were all friendly, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. We had a few snafus getting some of the work scheduled, but they responded by juggling their schedule to get an extra crew out here, so all the work was done on time and beautifully.

They performed exactly as promised and in a timely fashion. They are very pleasant and professional to deal with. We highly recommend them.

The owners and supervisors were very professional and knowledgable about plants and yard maintenance. The workers were extremely efficient, hard-working, and polite. There were always staff present who could speak English. They would ask what I wanted when they were unsure of a particular task. The yard, when they finished, was beautiful. We were out of town when the wind storm knocked down limbs from two trees, and they called us on our cell phone to report this and ask if we wanted them to remove the broken limbs. I am very pleased with their work and look forward to a continuing relationship. I thought their prices were moderately good--hence a "B "; they were more expensive than some estimates we got, but less than others.

Went great - thorough and professional.

We had acquired several estimates for the work we had performed, Cutting Edge was near the middle ground in terms of cost. We were impressed with the level of expertise demonstrated by their estimator, Kevin. When our needs had a sudden change Cutting Edge was able to perform additional services at the same time. Their workers were on time each day and worked diligently at the job. It was a large job and they were able to finish in two days. The only problem was in payment. We had provided a 50% deposit via credit card at the outset. A month later when having the work performed we discovered that the deposit had not been charged and that full payment was now due. This threw our plans into uncomfortable territory since there was now a great deal of money to be paid. We expressed our consternation to Kevin Schmauder.. He understood the obvious problem and expressed his apologies but it was still our problem. I hope he quits this practice, it was a problem for us; another client might have cancelled altogether.

They were terrific. They were prompt and courteous. They worked hard and did a good job. We were really pleased with them. We went with them because my husband is a volunteer with Church and is responsible for their property as a lawn care. Cutting edge does snow removal and lawn care for the Church. They were very responsive. I would use them in the future.

Communication was a bit slow at first. Partly my fault. But once we got back on track, things moved quickly. The crew was professional, friendly, fast, & did excellent work. Clean up was excellent. I'm very satisfied with the completed job. I would recommend this company.

I am on the board of small condominium building in Adams Morgan. We have a medium size yard in the front and a long strip of landscaping in the back. Both had become neglected and overgrown after the board declined to re-hire a small landscaping company that was based in DC. I contacted Cutting Edge based on Angie's List recommendations, along with 6 other companies. I told all the companies the same thing: we were looking for immediate maintenance and then service contract for 4 annual visits. I disclosed that we would also be renovating our entire front yard (steps, retaining walls, and landscaping) next year. Cutting Edge and one other company responded to my inquiry. They scheduled an onsite meeting with me for a date I specified. Kevin Schmauder met me on the specified day, even arriving early. We spent about 30 minutes touring the property and discussing the work to be done. Kevin took careful notes that he repeated back to me. He was very knowledgeable about the plants and I liked that he was recommending hand pruning. He also provided some suggestions for things we could do when we renovate the front yard to improve drainage and reduce mud splatters against the building Last, he said he could help us obtain an estimate for the future masonry work. The quote that I received was detailed and accurate to our conversation. A maintenance visit was priced at around $450 for half a day's work, excluding mulch. With mulch and the labor for spreading the mulch, the estimate was $850. We selected Cutting Edge based on their professionalism and the fact that they are a small business and provided a more personalized service. We felt their pricing was a little high compared to work we have had done in the past (we used to have a landscaper that we loved but she was tragically killed in a car accident in 2009), but their price was exactly the same as the other company, so in the end it was not much of a factor. They performed the work a few weeks later and they did a beautiful job. We are very pleased and will be using them going forward.

The company responded promptly to our request for an estimate. Once we signed our contract with them, the work was completed in a very timely manner and to our complete satisfaction. We also had them remove some shrubs and amend the soil in what will be our garden next spring. We love coming home to a freshly mowed and trimmed yard.
