I was interested in pricing HVAC maintenance contracts for my home (using a heat pump AC and furnace heat). I contacted Cosmos for more information. A representative contacted me very promptly, gave me some general information, and scheduled a time for a technician to come and review my system and provide more contract details. I purchased a semi-annual maintenance contract which I deemed to be fairly priced and worth the cost. The technicians were prompt, courteous, and very professional.
Description of Work: Provider came to house to review current HVAC system; provided recommendations and prices for a maintenance contract.

He popped in, saw the water drops coming from the HVAC vent, went into the attic with his helper, emerged soon after to report the air handler was not the culprit; it could only be a tiny leak coming from the bathroom above the kitchen. Predisposed to believe it was the ancient air handler that was failing and allowing water to somehow drip into the duct work, I was surprised but relieved. What surprised me most was his invoice. With no explanation, he delivered me an invoice for $100. I presume it was his minimum charge. Neither he or his office the day before told me there would be a charge just for assessing the problem. Had I been aware of it, I would have approached another vendor. Nice guy who uses a not nice business practice.
Description of Work: We reside in a two story home with a walk up attic. When we detected a water leak coming from e HVAC vent in our kitchen, we contacted this vendor. Having used him two years ago, and found him candid and technically savvy when explaining our venerable attic air handler was operable but very eligible for replacement, we did not hesitate to seek his assistance a second time.

As on other occasions that I've used Cosmos, the service was excellent. Gus and his assistant got my (old) oil burning, hot-water-boiler furnace up and running again. They got to my home when promised, diagnosed the problem and fixed it quickly. It turned out to be the element that creates the spark that fires the oil, and cleaning the nozzle from which the oil sprays. They also checked the general settings and adjusted the furnace so that it operated more efficiently. In addition to excellent work, Gus is just such a pleasure with whom to deal. He's the kind of man you want to go have a beer with. I highly recommend Cosmos and, as I've done in the past, will continue to call them for servicing my furnace and my A/C unit.

I received quotes from three highly rated providers on Angie's List. One was Cosmos. I liked Cosmos b/c it is a small, family business and very close to my home. Each of the three quotes included a budget A/C system and the next step up in cost and efficiency. I decided to go w/the "up to SEER 16" system. Cosmos' quote was a few hundred dollars more but they agreed to match the price quoted for the exact same Carrier 24ACC6 system by a competitor. Cosmos' Gus and George (father and son) and a worker arrived on time. They swapped out the old system and installed the new one smoothly. They were careful of our home and cleaned up all of their mess. The new system is far superior to our old one. I would recommend COSMOS to others because Gus puts customer satisfaction before profit and is willing to bend over backwards to meet the very high expectations his Angie's List reputation engenders. Notes: 1. Walking by I noticed that the installed v-shaped coil had a number of bent heat transfer fins. It looked like a wrench had been dropped in it. The worker was near and I asked. He said, not to worry, that they would straighten them out; but then he attached the coil to air ducts without fixing them. I complained to Gus about this and another, possibly cosmetic, problem. Gus immediately said he would fix things to our satisfaction. He instructed his son, George, to remove an already installed piece to gain access to the coil so that the bent portions could be combed straight and he ordered a special flexible connector to address our other concern. 2. After all the work and clean up was done, I noticed that two largish holes in the sheet metal vent leading to the air handler had not been patched. I believe these holes were part of a humidity monitoring system that was removed with the old system. It was a simple matter for George get the supplies back out of his truck to patch the holes. 3. While Gus worked inside installing the coil, George was outside installing the compressor. When I went outside to look at it, I noticed that it overhung the pad on all sides. George ramarked that this 32x32 pad was the size recommended by Carrier. The AC was stable and it was aesthetically pleasing not to see the pad; however, I was accustomed to a larger pad to to help provide a buffer for the lawn mower. When I expressed this concern, Gus quickly dispatched George to fetch a 36x36 pad.

This was the second time we used Cosmos and they are great. Gus is not only knowledgeable and helpful, but also kind and fair. He replaced our home humidifier, explained why it's so important in this area, and gave us some tips for its use. He also let us know about some products we might think about in the future, knowing that we have 3 young children. Although not part of fixing our humidifier, he also took the time to check out our gas fireplace and show me how to use it (it's old and wasn't working properly and we just moved into our house). I definitely recommend.

Biggest waste of $100! I contacted several vendors for estimates on either fixing my HVAC or getting an estimate on a new one. Cosmos was unable to fix my HVAC, not even temporarily, but another vendor as able to do it. I was told that I just needed a new system, which I already suspected, but was reluctant to do so based on cost. I really just needed my HVAC to run for a little bit longer. I was simply given a quote for a new HVAC, no measurements were taken, the service guy didn't offer any options for me, in terms of longevity of my existing system, or in terms of brands of a new HVAC. Cosmos was one of the first people to give me an estimate so I really didn't know any better at the time. Other heating and cooling companies came in and gave me a fantastic estimates, talked about types of units and brands, took some pictures, and temporarily fixed my unit while I make a decision on replacing the HVAC. After I had this comparison, I realized that Cosmos didn't even come close. I did not end up replacing an HVAC with Cosmos so I'm not sure if his ESTIMATE is even accurate. I did follow up later to ask if his price includes labor and taxes, which he said it did, but his quote was so much lower than everyone else's so I'm actually in disbelief. Overall, it mattered more to me to get my unit fixed immediately so that I could get heat.

Dear [member name removed] I have been in business for over 30 years and from time to time i have some customers complaining that our prices are bit too high for their budget, but i NEVER had a customer complaining that my prices we too low. You sent a message through Angies List message center on 12/22/2014 asking for service. We responded to you right away. We gave you our rates that it is $95.00 on regular business hours or $149.50 for weekends or night time. After some communications back and forth, you decided to have the service for January 06, 2015 because your comment was that you have to work to pay the $95.00. UNFORTUNATELY that day we had freezing rain and snow on top of that making the roads and driving dangerous. BUT DESPITE THE WEATHER, we kept your appointment and arrived there on time. I checked your 30+ year old system and i found out the unit is so old it would be hard to repair it and keep the system going. I COULD NOT FIX THE HEAT PUMP OUTSIDE BUT I MANAGED TO TEMPORARILY FIX THE EMERGENCY HEAT. Knowing that your blower motor was overheating I suspected it was not going to last long but I was hoping you would get something out of it. You called back on January 14th 2015 asking me if my prices include labor, taxes and material for the new system. I responded back to you explaining if you want to replace the blower motor or replace the whole system that way I can send you the correct estimate. You responded the next day on january 15 2015 telling me that you only want to replace the blower motor which i assured you that the price included parts , labor, taxes for $400.00 or the new system for $4,950.00. We tried to reach you to schedule the work and you never responded until I saw this review. I can only tell you: A) You paid only $95.00 for my service call B) when i was in your home i did take a picture of the indoor and outdoor units C) I didnt have to take measurements because i knew that you needed a smallest Carrier heat pump outside MODEL NUMBER 25HCD318 and an indoor unit in the ceiling Model Number FPMA D) You called back and you did ask for more discounts and If we had any more room to go lower on our price, and i assured you i gave you the best possible price and i couldn't go lower. IN ANY CASE THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE $95.00 AND THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME KNOW THAT MY PRICES ARE LOW.

I found them on Angie’s List. We paid for the air conditioner and then we found that there was a leak in the line. So we had to get him back again to change the line, for which he charge us more. Then our furnace wasn’t working and he told us that there was a problem and he charged us to fix it. We called him back and he told us that we needed a new furnace. So, we had to buy a new furnace. There was some leaking from the furnace because of condensation. We called and he hasn’t returned the call or called back. It is fine if the owner is here but he is trying to get his son into the business, and his sun is really bad. So it depends on who comes. If he comes, it is okay, but if the son comes, then it is a disaster.

Heat up stairs not working. Scheduled service and they came as scheduled. Very professional. Pinpointed the problem within 10 minutes and fixed. Heat working. I used them about a year ago when I had to replace my AC compressor unit. They provided the best price and did great service. In fact, they came out on Saturday and installed the new AC compressor and there was no upcharge for the weekend service. They are my Heating and AC go to guys! Highly recommend

They come out on a holiday weekend to fix the unit. A week later I had to call them again to fix the unit. They fixed the unit at first but I don't think found the true cause for the problem at first, the owners son came out and fixed it again. I felt I was overcharged in this situation because of needing two trips but they got the job done and came out when other people couldn't.

Dear Mrs ********* we came to your house on 7-12-2014 ON A HOLIDAY WEEKEND ON EMERGENCY BASIS and i had to get on the roof on an 20 floors high rise building and once i arrived on the roof i wetness more than 200 air conditioners . most of them not labeled and after a lengthy and stressful search i finally found your unit i labeled it so next time its found easier and i replaced a part . It worked fine for several days and my son had to come back and replaced a disconnect switch on the roof with all the fuses ( either from a power search ,loose connections or just getting old ) and because we felt bad you got charged only $433.80 . total .don't forget that we had to park across the street walk to your 18th floor go on the roof walk several hundreds of feet to get to the unit and make several trips back and forth to the van to get the job done IN ANY CASE WE DO APOLOGIZING FOR FEELING THIS WAY ABOUT THE PRICE but i promise you next time will be easier and more reasonable because now we know the system and we do know where everything is .AS MANY A/L MEMBERS SAY WE ARE A NICE COMPANY WE WORK FOR YOU , THE CUSTOMER AND WE ALWAYS TRY OUR BEST FOR YOU ,,IN ANY CASE THANK YOU FOR ALL THE A's YOU GAVE US ,GOD BLESS

We're quite satisfied with the heating system and they did everything they promised. However, the filter was a special one, so we have to go back to the company to get replacements which costs a little bit more.

They identified a problem with the H.S.I. being burned out. They replaced the flame sensor, reset the control board and inspected other parts. They arrived on time and very efficient.

It went very well. I am pregnant and due any day, and was particularly concerned about the issue that came up in the home inspection and getting it looked at asap. He came the same day I called (today), assessed the issue and made potential recommendations; he also assured me that the issue was not dangerous or urgent. I will definitely call when I have more HVAC needs.

Very friendly & responsive on phone. Called at 5pm on a Saturday, they said they'd be here in 90min. After hour diagnosis fee is $200 ($100 is usual). They will provide a ladder for rooftop units (max height is 26'). Cancelled appointment due to conflict on my end, no services provided.

My air conditioner had been working but one morning it did not turn on. Based on Angie's List reviews, I called Cosmos at 7:30 in the morning and also sent an email via their web site. My call was returned within an hour and a service call was scheduled for between noon and 1:00 p.m. the same day. The price was explained to me up front. Later that morning they called to say that they could come earlier. I told them I might be on a business call when they arrived, and we agreed that they would do what they could outside the house until I was off my call. When I got off the call, I turned on the air conditioner. Within minutes they diagnosed the problem: the wrong type of fuse had been installed in my air conditioner fuse box when I had had it replaced recently by an electrician. While they had been at my house for well over an hour, they only charged me for coming to the house, i.e., their minimum charge, and for the fuses. I had feared that I was going to have pay for a major repair, so I was very happy that I had found such honest professionals. Two people came to the house, one of whom was the owner's son, who was the lead person on the job.

Cosmos is family owned. George, the owner's son came out and inspected our unit. He was at our home when we expected him - he helped me finish clearing out the closet so he could get to the unit and proceeded to inspect and service our system to get ready for the hot summer we're in now. I've used Gus and George for several years now and really trust them to recommend what's needed to keep us comfortable without suggesting more than is required to pad their profits. As a matter of fact, Gus let me know that Virginia Power is offering rebates for getting your heat pump system serviced. Since we had already done our spring service, we will be able to apply the rebate to our fall maintenance. So he's all about saving us money - how often does a service provider make that his focus?

I had an unusual situation. I needed to find someone quickly to repair my neighbor's AC that broke down because they have 2 cats with health issues. Since I was checking in and feeding them each evening I was very concerned for their well being and also the house was getting very warm inside. I quickly checked on Angie's List and was impressed by the ratings for Cosmos. When I called Cosmos I spoke to a very nice woman who after I explained my situation told me they would get back to me. Boy did I get lucky when I came across this company. I was so grateful they could come to repair the AC so quickly. George and James arrived a few hours from the time I called the company and after I explained what had happened to the AC they knew immediately where to look to resolve the problem. They work very quietly and are very professional. I was very happy when the air started circulating in the house again and so were the cats. I truly felt very fortunate that I found Cosmos. For the services they performed they were very reasonable. I was also grateful they did not try to sell me anything I did not need. I would recommend them to anyone looking for reliable, professional and quality service for AC. .

" when I called, the company owner answered the call. Was accommodating as to arranging time for service call. Arrived on time. Was able to demonstrate what the problem was with with the AC unit. (Previously Michael and Sons had made service call and 2 different technicians made 2 different diagnosis ---lost my confidence in Michael and sons). "Gus" (the owner), was very professional and knew what he was talking about. Very neat, covered flooring. I would definitely use him again.

These guys are excellent - they came out and serviced my badly failing AC unit on very short notice. Freon is expensive these days, but that's not on them...I would highly recommend them for any HVAC needs - I will use Cosmos again if anything comes up.
