Better Appliance

Please see update that follows. The owner contacted me and my issues have been resolved. 12/31/2016: Wish I could say I had a good experience, but nope, can't do it. They gave me a very fair price for a stackable washer/dryer unit, but the day of delivery was a disaster. I fortunately decided to call half way through the day to check in on the status of everything, and from that point on the day went downhill fast. Delivery had been scheduled for between 11-4. But apparently there was a mix-up and my unit wasn't scheduled to be delivered at all and no one was going to call me to even let me know. AND that's my biggest gripe right there. I realize mix-ups occasionally happen, BUT they should have let me know! I'm annoyed that NO ONE bothered to call me about it. Thanks for nothing! Finally when I discovered the problem they said they could find someone to deliver and install the unit between 5-7 pm. Well, that really wasn't acceptable as I had other plans, but since I didn't want them to ruin a whole 'nother day of mine I finally gave in and said they could deliver in the evening. I cancelled my other plans. So the delivery/installation guy finally arrived AFTER 7 pm. And then sees my rigid metal dryer duct and promptly tells me he doesn't have the tools to install it. WHAT? The sales guy said the installation guy does this stuff "all the time" and would be able to install it. And really that's what I would expect to. I would not expect an washer/dryer installation tech to install ONLY foil dryer ducts? I mean really! So I call the Better Appliance store because I find this unacceptable and hmmm, funny, they aren't answering the phone. But really, what am I to do? Send the tech away and go through this entire nightmare again another day? I realize I have no choice but to take the installation tech to Home Depot and buy the tool and supplies he needs so he's able to install the duct. He clearly had no intention of buying them. He didn't even seem clear as to what he needed. Gosh. I thought I already paid an installation fee, but there I was dishing out more money. Finally at 10 pm, the technician left. 10 pm!!!!!!! And I'm really not entirely convinced the duct is installed all that well, but at 10 pm at night, I wanted to be done with all of it for the day. Update 1/07/2017: The day after delivery the owner contacted me and apologized for the delivery and installation problems. He gave me a refund on a portion of the delivery/installation fee. I definitely appreciated his efforts to make things right. Well, the day after I spoke with him (New Year's Day) I went to use the new washer/dryer unit for the first time after the installer and I tested it, and it wouldn't work. The washer wouldn't fill the drum. Now I was truly upset especially since I bought a brand new unit (open-box) and it now apparently wasn't working. I left a message for the owner and asked him to send a technician out the next day to look at it. I didn't expect anyone to come out on a holiday. But much to the owner's credit he had a repair technician out to look at the unit that very same day! That was truly impressive and appreciated. I highly doubt that Home Depot or Lowe's would have given me that kind of service. The unit had a bad part, and the technician was able to replace it on the spot, and I was able to wash clothes that evening. So, I must commend the owner for his responsiveness to the immediate follow-up problem that occurred with the new unit. He didn't hesitate to get it resolved and he did it on a holiday no less. Although my delivery, install and new appliance experience with Better Appliance has not been particularly smooth, I have to say that the owner has addressed all my concerns and complaints, and I am satisfied with the outcome. Because of his efforts, I may consider future appliance purchases at Better Appliance. But I will most definitely call the day before to be certain that delivery and installation arrangements have been properly coordinated!

Called the evening of Sunday, Sept 14 after seeing a posting on craigslist for a used oven. I left a message assuming no one was doing business on Sunday and had call returned immediately. Once we began discussing models and styles available, Ali recommended another unit that was much closer to what I was really looking for. Price for the new unit plus deliver, install and haul away was fair. Unit that was delivered was clean. Delivered the very next day at 6:30PM so I didn't have to miss work. Installed and texted the unit and even helped sweep up glass from the old broken unit. They guaranteed 30 days of free labor and parts and a full six months of free labor warranty with no fees to perform service. So far, I do not think that will be necessary but will update if necessary. I would recommend to a friend.

Spoke to salesperson, who was friendly and provided me the information I needed. Also, recommended another store to visit.

After the kid broke our washer, we didn't want to buy a new one since we will be getting all the new appliances later this year. I checked Craigslist for used washers and also searched for refurbished appliance dealers. I called Better Appliance in Woodbridge and they had different brands from $130 to $150, which was a bit higher than Criagslist, but they were refurbished and have a 30-day guarantee. The clincher was they had delivery and haul-away for an extra $65 (it would have been $50 if it wasn't downstairs in the basement) and could deliver the next day. I decided to buy over the phone and they texted me a few photos of the different models. I made my decision, paid via credit card and they brought the machine when promised (later in the day than I hoped, but I was happy to get it in one day). It was clean and looked good - no dings or scratches. The delivery guy got it into the house and installed and we have used it for many loads so far with no problems.
