Great service, overall. They were beyond friendly from the time I set up the appointment to the time they shook my hand and left. They showed up on-time (they arrived early but pulled up precisely on time), scoped the work and explained everything they would need to do. Upon finding that the doors were not all compatible, they explained our options in detail. They finished very promptly and quickly demonstrated the work they had performed. I couldn't ask for more in a lock-smith.

They were very good. They were very prompt, their cost was reasonable, and they followed up with an estimate for getting our lock replaced.

Called to request appointment for mailbox re-key and was told that total lock would have to be replaced. Was quoted $165.00, however, Angie's List customers receive a $10 discount. Price seemed a little steep, but I did not get any alternate quotes so I don't know the running rate for mailbox locks. Appointment made for next day. Received courtesy call from locksmith, Jim, about one hour before arrival to inform me that he was on the way. Arrived on time. Jim was pleasant and knowledgeable and explained exactly what he was doing. Mailbox lock replaced and new keys supplied. Jim offered the opportunity for me to test the lock to ensure that there were no problems. Work done was professional. I would use this company again.

Great service, called on monday, had a locksmith to change locks on Tuesday morning. Worker was polite, knoweldgeable and prompt.

The experience was very pleasant and the price was competitive. I had nine doors that needed to be re-keyed. I spoke to Robin who was courteous and professional. She explained their pricing model -- which went into my spreadsheet for comparison with other locksmiths -- and was patient with me as if I was her only concern. Her attitude (in combination with other glowing Angie'sList reports about them) convinced me to forego some (slightly) cheaper locksmiths and I made an appointment with ASL. Daren arrived a bit late -- his previous job had run long. But Robin had called to make sure that it wasn't a problem. He was very professional and helpful. He went about his business of knocking out the thingies that needed to be re-keyed and explained things while he worked. We have three kinds of locks (maybe more) and he had to deal with each slightly differently. After he came back from re-keying them in his truck, he installed them and also tried to make my doors work better, even WD40-ing my sliding doors where they needed it. All in all, a pleasant experience, not at all the dreary one that I had expected from hiring a locksmith :-). If we ever get around to changing the types of locks on my doors (replace some of our single- for double-cylinder locks), we will certainly call ASL.

Prior to scheduling the appt I called and expected to leave a voice message at the work number but was pleasantly surprised when I talked to an ASL rep for 30 min. She detailed to me the differences in the locks and advised me of how I could also purchase my own equipment to save money. I really appreciated the fact she had the bottom line figure in mind. She wanted me to get a quality job but was very upfront with everything. The technician, coincidentally, was the same one who came and changed my locks when I moved into my house. He was so knowledgeable and articulate, he explained what he was doing in order to educate me on how I can use the locks even if I decide to get different doors. Great service!

The experience was efficient, cheap, and professional from beginning to end. The locks were rekeyed and ready for pick-up within hours of being dropped off. Office staff was friendly and knowledgable when I asked for door security recomendations.

I called at 7:00 to have someone come that day to do the repair work because I was concerned about snow buliding up on my deck which I couldn't access because the lock on the door leading out to the deck was broken. I talked with a very astute operator who professionally set up the appointment and even offered to give us a call 30 minutes prior to the locksmiths arrival. As promised we received a call about 35 minutes before the appointment, which was earlier than planned because the locksmith completed a prior job ahead of schedule. The weather was bad and roads were snow covered but the locksmith arrived on time and with a very good attitude. He was able to quickly diagonse the problem and make the appropriate repairs after thoroughly explaining all of our options. He did a fantastic job and we are very pleased with the work.

Asked if I wanted the strike plate put on the door jam. A strike plate finishes the job, why would anyone not want the strike plate? Did NOT: have key punch to match bolt that goes into the door jam so an oblongish bolt was pushed into a round hole/strike plate.

We were very happy with the work performed. The worker was friendly, professional and hard working. He didn't have one part that was needed to complete the job, so he called another employee working nearby and had the part dropped off so that he could finish the job. He rekeyed the locks on all five doors (both a deadbolt and a main lock on each door) and we were very happy with the results.

Great service from start to finish! Spoke with this business a couple of times prior to the appointment and they were friendly and took time to not only understand the work I wanted done, but to provide informed recommendations. They were also clear about the price up front. On the day of the appointment, the technician (Jim) called ahead and was there right on time. He did a great job replacing and re-keying our locks, and even helped us fix a sticky door! Overall he was very friendly and extremely professional. I would definitely recommend these locksmiths.

deadbolt stopped retracting around 10 AM. Called several locksmiths and this was the only one willing and able to send someone out for same day service. We were told to expect our service to take place between 1-4 PM and serviceman arrived at 1:30. He was very pleasant and personable. He was friendly to our pets as well as being competent and professional. He finished the entire job, including some adjustments to our door, within 45 minutes. The estimate we had been given was $150 plus parts. Total cost ended up being $210.99 -- $58 of which was parts. I would absolutely hire them again and recommend them to anyone.

Contacted the company on 1/4/2010 and first spoke to a lady who was very thorough in describing what the locksmith would do and broke down the price. She was patient about reviewing with me, at my request, several different times, exactly how many different rekeys would be done and the cost for each procedure considering three doors with a total of 3 locks each would be rekeyed. We both were figuring out and realizing the cost would be higher due to duplication of the rekeying on all three doors. As we continued to talk, she said, "I am going to let you talk to my manager who has more knowledge and can answer any further questions." How great it was that she had done that. I had already previously talked to several other companies and explained to them that I did not have a "key card" (all they would then need to do is copy the number of keys that I needed instead of rekeying threee doors/9 locks total.) As I talked to the friendly manager and reviewed with him what the lady had said, he was satisfied with the information that I had been given. He had me to describe the key that I had shape-wise and what was on the back (partially what the other companies had done). When I read the number on the back, he said to me that that was probably the telephone number. I talked to him further about prices and he was intending to upgrade/lower the prices. He told me to first call the number on the back of the key. I thanked him for essentially being kind enough to save me a lot of money and a lot of unnecessary work and time. I told him if this number was not working I would call him back. As good fortune would have it, after eleven years, I finally have located the original locksmith company that had installed my locks to get more copies of these security keys. I had to call back the manager to thank him for assisting me unselfishly. Actually, both staff members were patient and did not rush me off the phone, which allowed the ultimate positive discovery.

They were very good about finding the kind of locks we wanted and if those locks were efficient. They were cost conscious about re-keying into the same locks. The price covered all of our keys, making the latch and giving us the certified keys. The representative was on time. He did everything very easily. He was really good at getting things done before he could get to another house.

They were very friendly on the phone. They were able to give me an estimate over the phone. They arrived on time and were very thorough.

Area Safe and lock was extremely professional and quick. One of the owners came out fire\st to re-key my front door and he was done in less than 30 minutes. I then asked him to take a look at a sliding glass door on the rear of the house to see if an ouside lock could be installed on it. He took it apart, took photos and started to look in a lock bok that he had with him. He wasn't able to find the exact lock, so he wanted to go back in the office to do research in this door (no indication on the door or frame of the manufacturer). A couple days later I got a call from the receptionist who said they found a lock and a door handle that would go with the lock, but it the parts and labor would be over 250.00 and they weren't sure I wanted to go that route. Since a lock was cheaper than buyng a new door, I stated I sure would move forward. They came out a couple of days later and installed it perfectly (even though they had to cut some screws down to size to fit). We are very please with the new lock and with the company and would highly recommend them. They seem to really take care of their customers!

The front door is a steel door and it is hard to fit locks to it. They did a great job. We had them make a custom key that would fit all the doors in the house as well. We had a small issue and they came out within 20 minutes and made an adjustment. This was because it was cold when they installed it and warmer the next day.

The door had an older mortise lock in an unusual size, which made finding something to fit a bit of a challenge. I had spent several months going back and forth with another locksmith who promised to look into it, but they never made progress. Ace responded right away and first tried to find the right lock based on photos and my measurements, then decided they needed to send someone out to take a look in person to make sure they got it right. That was an important step as the actual parameters were even narrower than we first thought. They were successful in finding a lock that would fit in the style and finish we wanted. The office was very good about checking in with me to keep me apprised of their progress. The gentleman who installed the lock took a great deal of care - he worked on it for several hours making fine adjustments to preserve the existing door. He did a great job filling in some poorly dug out areas of wood in the door jam from the installation of the prior lock. The company was very professional and knowlegeable. There were occasional delays of a day or two here and there in exchanging phone calls/emails during the course of the many back and forth parts of this project, but nothing that was a concern. They were apologetic for these, and overall very responsive. I needed to leave just as the installer was finishing up, and he was fine with me not paying that afternoon but following up by phone later. They were prompt about returning for a minor adjustment to the door even after the final payment was made. This is clearly a business that values its clients and is service-oriented. Every interaction I had, from John in helping to decide which lock, to Amber in the office, to the two gentlemen who came out to measure and install the lock, was professional and timely. They called to let me know they were on the way, arrived on time, etc. I would use them again, and highly recommend them.

The company that originally installed the door had gone out of business, so I contacted Area Safe and Lock Service. A technician arrived within a couple of hours, who was pleasant, knowledgeable, and truly interested in finding a solution to the problem. He did so with a smile and some good advice for preventing the situation in the future. I would definitely call them again.

Jim the lock technician was punctual, very courteous and quite knowledgeable about his work. Did not try to oversell me and repaired a lock instead of replacing it and cleaned and lubed all the other locks. He really knows his stuff and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again

Excellent performance. Truly first rate. Company representatives were courteous on the phone and completely professional, while providing an accurate summary of expected costs. Locksmith showed up right on time, and I didn't have to wait 10 days to get an appointment. I am very satisfied with the work. Atypical for Northern Virginia, where one has to wait a good deal of time, pay too much, and then receive sub-standard work. I completely recommend AREA SAFE AND LOCK.

Their price was good. I would rate them highly and would use them in the future.

Daren arrived promptly at 9 am. We were very impressed with how he kept his voice low during conversations at our exterior doors about what he was doing to help us secure our home. We were also able to see the difference in the locks that had been placed on our doors by the manufacturer and the new locks that he bought with him to install in our doors. He showed us the plastic parts vs. metal parts that we could see in locks provided by ASL. We thought ASL was rather pricey, but we had a good conversation with Amber about why doing it ourselves with locks from a place like Home Depot or Lowes might not be the best option for us. Daren left the old locks with us along with the keys. We also received extra keys for our installed locks.

Daren was great! He arrived when he said he would and was able to work around the movers (we scheduled locks to be replaced the same day we moved!). Not only did he rekey 4 locks (front, back(2) and garage), he also repaired the mistakes made by the previous owner on each of the doors, to include replacing our garage doorknob and making the entire door more secure! I was impressed how he didn't just want to complete the job, he wanted to make sure it was done correctly and to our satisfaction, actually walking me to each lock to make sure I was please with how it was operating. One was a bit difficult to operate (but not a big deal) and he immediately fixed it so that it worked appropriately. Overall we were VERY pleased with the experience and would not hesitate to recommend Area Safe and Lock to friends.
