Description of Work: Our main culinary water line sprung a leak in our front yard between the street and the house. Water was bubbling up from under the ground onto the sidewalk. We contacted J & C Testing and a couple of other firms. J & C Testing had the most competitive bid, and would do the work with the least amount of disruption to our yard. They came out within 2 days, and dug two holes, one near the street and one near the house. They then used a "missle" to bore a new line from the street to the house, and just left the old line in the ground unconnected. Took them only a few hours, and everything worked great.

+ -1 moreI called this company at the suggestion of another plumber because he said that J and C Testing had the equipment to locate where my water main leak was. They were 45 minutes late but did call after 1/2 hour to say they would be late. I should have been suspicious when I saw how poorly maintained the equipment was. They went about their work as explained above which set me back $75.00-what he had quoted over the phone. Ultimately I did not have them do the work to repair the water main as I was not impressed with the guy, his equipment or his bid. The water main break ended up being out in the yard not under my sidewalk where J and C Testing said it was. The company (not J and C Testing) that did the job did not disturb my sidewalk, cut and replaced my sod beautifully, excavated my yard without doing major damage to landscaping or property, didn't cuss, hosed off my intact sidewalk and driveway, and did the job for $300.00 less than J and C Testing bid.
Description of Work: I wanted someone to find the water main leak on my property. They came to the house with a shoddily maintained device mounted to a rod with a handle, earphones and a box with a meter that hung around the guys neck on a strap. This is the modern answer to a water witch I guess-but it didn't work well. The guy moved slowly around looking at the meter and listening in the earphones as he moved the rod around, occasionally cussing, in the vacinity of where we knew the water main was between the city's valve and where it went into my home. He said, "The only reading I get is next to your house under the concrete sidewalk leading to your porch." He sent me a bid by email in a couple of days to fix the problem that was $300.-$500.00 more than the other bids I got.
