This was a long time ago. They are expensive, very expensive for what you get and I had a couple of latches break. Other than that, they came out in a timely manner and put the windows in. The windows are all right but the latches that are on the windows are not very good. It took them less than a day to put them in. I was pretty unimpressed because I finished my basement after that and I was going to use these guys again but I did some additional research and I found a much better window, in my opinion, for, I could have replaced every window in this house for less than I paid for just the windows upstairs. So, their prices are, in my opinion are outlandish. And they pressure sell you when they come to the door which is probably, you know you get these elderly people that feel pressured when they answer the door. Not the best way to handle things. I've gotten more phone calls asking for referrals than them calling to see how the windows were and if there are any problems. They are more interested that I put a sign in my front yard or calling and giving referrals than asking if there are any problems with the windows.

It worked out well. Service is great and the installation team was excellent. If there is anything better I could use, I would use it. They are on time and did the job as promised. They cleaned up as promised. I am very happy with the installation. We agreed on the time and place and they came as agreed. I pretty much let them go because they know what they are doing. They were extremely efficient and proficient in their work.

They were really fast. They came out and they didn't make a mess. You just can hardly tell they were even here except we had new windows. My interaction with them was good. They did everything they said they were going to do. It was good. The windows were great and saved us a lot on our heating and air conditioning bills. They were right on time.

It was good. I liked their service. Their windows are top-notch. I like them. From the very start, he arranged the credit as far as it goes and when approved, they installed on time and cleaned up. It was good weather and they only had one day and they were done. It was a good install.

The windows are nice. But, the guy went back and finished the caulking and drywall inside. I'll probably have to redo the caulking. They just filled the drywall holes with drywall putty and then it shrunk. I'm just kind of disappointed with it. They just didn't do a good job. They didn't even come back and check it. The salesperson came in and said, "Well, we can do this for you. We'll finish it like it was never done. We'll fix the outside." The stucco is wrong color and I just have a few patches. I would tell them to deal with the sales person and make sure that he was the person that you're dealing with through the whole project. I haven't seen the salesman anymore and I should have been dealing with him and telling him, "Do these guys know what they're doing? This is what they did. Can they redo it?" There has to be an intermediate like a contractor.
Description of Work: I had them put in three windows. Two 5 footers and one about 8 foot. They're vinyl.

he entire time I went through the process of getting windows installed, everyone I talked to was kind and courteous, from the initial conversation to the installation, the whole time I never thought of any of the people I talked to as just trying to make a sale, they were exceedingly friendly and very upfront about every step of the process. The installation was cleanly done, and thorough. The house was actually cleaner when the installation was complete than it was before! I have had other work done on the house that wasn't even close in the level of concern to my house. The installation experts were so thoughtful and aware of what was being done while working on putting the new windows in. Since having the windows installed, my heating bill has been cut in half. Which is saying a lot as last year in Utah we had a very mild winter, and this year has not been nearly as kind. There is no longer a draft from any of the windows, and when I awake each morning, I am not touching a cold floor. The house is not just 72 degrees near the thermostat, it's 72 degrees everywhere. Not a cold spot near a single window or room. But the best part is the ability to sleep through the night without being woken up all the time. My neighborhood is full of little dogs that bark all the time. It is so quiet with the new windows I can sleep comfortably through the night and enjoy the experience of waking when I really want to, not when a neighbor lets their dogs out. A good night sleep is priceless as I work with a global company, meaning that I may have to work any countries hours. You never know how great a good night sleep is, until you have one. I am very appreciative of all the service and focus American Exteriors has shown during the whole process.

My wife was contacted by a door to door salesperson and told them they needed to call me. They called and were very cordial and made an appointment for a salesperson to visit. The salesperson was courteous and low key. No pressure. The price started very high but was brought down with a series of discounts to a price we were happy with. The installer (Dale) was exceptional. He was prompt and did a very thorough job of removing and cleaning/preparation for the new windows. The windows are exactly what we were expecting and we are very happy overall with our experience.

The installation crew - two workers - were very professional, easy to talk with about job details. If I were to do the job all over again, I would spend much more time comparing technical features of different manufacturers, and then negotiate pricing. My windows were done at the end of the year when I was concerned that the applicable rebates were about to expire, so I was under a time constraint.

The installers scheduled for 8:00 AM but they actually got there a little early. They pulled out the 11 windows and installed the new ones and the job, including a thorough cleanup, was completed around 3:15 PM. The workers were cordial but were there to do the job and did it well. The windows have made a tremondous difference. Our front room was unbearably hot in the summer because it has 2 large (6 feet by 5 feet) rectangular windows with 2 half circle windows above them and faces west. When we first moved in 11 years ago, we avoided the front room during the summer. We had put some heat blocking plastic on the windows that had dropped the temperature in the room a little but it was uncormoftably warm. With the new windows, we can now enjoy the room and it's comfortable. If you stand in the sunshine coming through the new windows, it doesn't even feel hot. Our basement was always cold during the winter. We ran an electric heater any time that we were down there and it was still chilly. Now it is comfortable from only the furnace without the electric heater running. The upstairs windows are in 3 bedrooms. Previously, you could feel the cold air in the winter coming in through the gaps where the 2 window panels came together. Now, no more breezes. Overall, extremely happy with the new windows. The workmanship was very good. We've had some really bad experiences with work that we've had done by other contracters. This was by far the best experience we have had.

The windows were of decent quality. Their sales tactics are very disapproving after already being in. They do the door to door thing telling me they are only giving me this offer. I wish they would have been more straightforward rather than being underhanded. The windows were fine, I didn't like how much I paid for them and I definitely over payed for them, and I didn't like the sales tactic they used on me. The contractor they used was really great. I wouldn't recommend them to anybody.

We could have gone cheaper but we wanted double hung windows in our basement for daylight, so that kids can use it. Nothing about them really impressed me that much. I don't know if I would recommend them. They hired a contractor to come in and do the work. They were on time but I had some issues. They were fine with their professionalism. I don't know if I would use them again in the future. My experience was okay but I might not use them because I was not that impressed. It's not that they were lousy; they were just okay.

PRE-SALES PROCESS: The sales reps call themselves marketing directors. Don't be fooled, they're sales reps. And whatever you do, don't invite them over to your house. They were at my house for just over three hours and this was after numerous attempts to gently invite them to leave. PRICE: I gave them an F in this category because these guys are EXTREMELY expensive for the quality, value and product they deliver. Big box stores sell comparable premium, low-e vinyl windows installed for roughly half the price. How do I know? Because I priced it out after the fact. Tough lesson to learn but now I know. I'm just glad I didn't do my whole house which was quoted at just a pinch over $20K by American Exteriors. American Exteriors will tell you that others are less expensive because they don’t provide premium vinyl windows, or that they’re not low-e windows, or that they don’t have a lifetime warranty. This is just not true. All the comparable windows I looked at had these characteristics. And finally, you don’t have to provide others with a marketing article nor do you have to have a sign posted in your yard for ten days to get American Exteriors “discount.” QUALITY: I gave them a C on quality for a number of reasons. Sure the windows look great and I am generally pleased with them but there are other facets to quality. One was the installation process. The installer left shards of glass in my house and large pieces of glass in my yard where my children play. Fortunately, I found them before my kids did. Also, the installer over cut my aluminum siding in a number of area leaving gaping holes. I couldn't believe it. In addition, they cracked my drywall in a number of places and scuffed up the interior window areas. In addition, the exterior of the window frames were scuffed up pretty badly and were also very dingy looking. It looked like a couple of the windows had been dragged over an abrasive surface. They pride themselves on quality assurance but I was the one that had to bring these problems to their attention after the installation process. There is no quality assurance. Oh, and by the way, they have a “quality assurance” person follow-up with you after the fact but it’s really a marketing person making sure that you complete your marketing article that is part of the deal. RESPONSIVENESS: They were responsive to my problems and resolved them quickly. In fact, they came out and replaced all of the window frames and patched the drywall. Unfortunately I still have to paint which I’m not thrilled about but I was generally pleased with how they handled my problems. They fixed the aluminum siding holes by filling them full of caulk. Not the best way to resolve the problem but it’s sealed. PUNCTUALITY: These guys are not punctual. The installer we dealt with was extremely difficult to communicate with. We had to lead each conversation and we were never sure if he was actually going to show up. On the day of the installation, it was a dreary day and we weren’t sure if they were going to show up. We didn’t hear from the installer until about 10 minutes after he was supposed to arrive. He wasn’t going to be able to make it because of the weather. We rescheduled and he showed up for the next date but was late. The punctuality on the repairs was horrendous. They were supposed to be here at 9:30 but didn’t call until 10:30 to let us know that they were just on their way. We asked them to reschedule and they showed up on time the second time. PROFESSIONALISM: I gave them a C on the overall professionalism of the project. The sales person would definitely receive an F for his professionalism. He actually had the audacity to suggest that we go to a neighbor’s house to view his windows and ask about their experience with American Exteriors. It was 9:30 p.m. and I explained that I wasn’t comfortable doing this at this time of night. He said, “Well I’m not.” This is just one of a couple of examples as to why their sales process gets an F. The installer’s professionalism also gets an F as articulated in the prior section. As far as handling the repairs, I have to give them an A-. They resolve all of the problems in a timely and reasonable fashion. BOTTOM LINE: I would not recommend this product or service to anyone. Do your due diligence. Get quotes. Don’t be swept away by them telling you that their product is better than others. It is not. You can get premium vinyl windows through everyone else for close to half the price.

They were professional however they don’t understand; No, No thank you, I’m happy with what I have, I’m not interested, If I change my mind I’ll call, I’m broke, etc., etc., etc..... I don’t like aggressive or overly ambitious sales people and calling me several times a week is only annoying me. They will never get a job from me at any cost. The work done was high quality, but I still have small questions as to whether I received the highest quality window replacements available in our area, or paid more than I would have for a similar quality window from another company. The need to make a decision on which company to use and have the work done before the end of 2010 limited the amount of time I had to do research.
Description of Work: Replaced twelve 104-year old windows in a small brick house in central Salt Lake City. The first crew tore out the old windows and installed the replacement windows in one working day. The tear-out and install process was made more complicated by the need to follow precise techniques for lead paint abatement, which were expertly performed. The workmanship was very high quality, with no damage to existing structure, excellent clean-up both outside and inside. A second crew followed within a few days to do the final 'wrap,' which covered the insulating spaces that join the new window frames to the original brick window space. This was also well done, and I am very pleased with the entire job.

I called American Exteriors and explained the issue, and they sent someone the same day to take a look. The service person did show up and inspected everything. He got up on a ladder and found the source of the problem, and added some caulk to the joint where water was entering through the siding. The charge was $70. I was not told there was a service charge and I thought he would give me an estimate first, before doing any work. I paid and he left, and the leak continued. He had, before leaving, explained that his caulk might not work, because it was raining. But, if that was known to be the case, I would have preferred that he came back later when it wasn't raining to fix the leak, and charge me for work that actually fixed the leak. So the work done and paid for was "fair", so I have given it a "C" rating.

I was first contacted by a woman walking down our street. She asked if I was interested in new windows. I said I was, and she said someone would call to set up an appointment. A few days later, I received a call from American Exteriors. The woman on the phone was very friendly and told me that the company was going to do an advertising campaign in my neighborhood. They were looking for a home to use as a model for their products. I have a 1926 home and she told me how wonderful that would be as their model home. She said there were special discounts for being a model home and then set up an appointment for someone to come by. A few days later a man came over, he was punctual. He explained that he was not a salesman but, rather, a marketing director. He again told us about the model home deal and what great discounts they would give. The man was very nice and explained all about their windows and then took measurements. Following this, we sat at the table, and he explained pricing. He said that expensive companies charge around $18 dollars per "united inch" and cheap windows are about $4. He said that his company was higher quality. "We charge around $13 or $14 for our windows - let's say $13." This made me a bit suspicious because the number seemed to be pulled out of the air. He then proceeded to add discounts - 10% for this, 8% for being a model home, 9% for rebates, and some more. After getting down to around $4,000 for the six windows he said that if we made the decision that night, he'd take an additional $300 off. It all seemed a bit too scripted, and we don't make snap decisions. I asked him for references, and he was a bit put off by that. But, he said it was no problem and promised to call the next day with a couple of references. We never heard from him again. I talked to another window installer and they said that American Exterior makes a good window - but it seemed to me the price was high. I'm also suspicious about the whole model home thing. That seems like a good line for everyone. As a result, I would not go with this company and would warn others to do their homework and get other bids before making a contract with them.
