Repair person was kind and thoughtful, though seemingly unfamiliar with the system. He had to come back and forth for not having the correct parts several times over several days. Paying for that as labor was frustrating. His written note on our most recent invoice says: “if nothing goes wrong the system should be fixed.” Then, “If it does act up, the outdoor unit will have a leak and will need to be repaired, under warranty.” Not at all confidence inspiring and they warranty their labor for only 90 days.

Our water heater needed to be replaced. Due to replacements over te years it was surrounded by extraneous pipes that no longer went anywhere. Tingey plumbing came to bid the job and spent all the time we required to explain to us the various pros and cons of a traditional water heater vs. a tankless water heater. We learned a lot and had enough information to determine what would work best for us.They provided bids for multiple options. In the end, we decided to stay with a traditional water heater. They promptly came and installed it. They were friendly, professional and the water heater was replaced within the day. Code requires earthquake straps, but there wasn't a solid wall to attach them to. Tingey plumbing came back out to design a unique solution and built a frame from floor to ceiling to attached the water heater securely. It is out of our way and works great. On their own initiative, they also cleaned up all of the extraneous plumbing. They moved it back to the wall, organized and labeled it so it is now behind our appliances. It is much easier to follow and opened up our utility area. Thank you Tingey for going the extra mile! We will be calling you again when we need plumbing or heating services.

After returning from an out of town trip on New Years' Eve 2014, I arrived home to discover that no water was coming out of my pipes after a particularly hard freeze in Summit Park. I panicked. I called Manwill Plumbing first. I had previously had Manwill replace my furnance and water softener. I had hoped that my previous spending of large amounts of cash with the company would earn me some loyalty points. Oh no. I was told that Manwill did not deal with frozen pipes (unless water is gushing out of them). Nice. I called Tingey. Troy and another plumber (Tim I think) came out and they were great. They had to cut a little dry wall in the basement to figure out what happened. They found and showed me a pipe that had frozen solid and burst at a connection point. If they had refused to come to my home, like Manwill, when the cold snap ended gushing water would have flooded my walls and basement. They were super polite and efficient. Thank you so much! The money I spent was completely worth it and it would have been so much more expensive if water had flooded my basement. I will always call Tingey from now on. Did I mention that it happened on New Years Eve and they were there until 9 p.m.?

I had an old (1975) nonworking natural gas wall heater that I wanted replaced. I chose Tingey heating and plumbing because the technician that came(Dave) to give me the bid was very thorough and was able to give me three different model and price options. Another company only gave me one option that was many hundreds of dollars higher. On the day of the install the office called right at 8:30Am to let me know they were running late but on their way. The roads were extremely icy that day so I can understand. They were only 20 minutes late . Both technicians Dave and John were very professional and didn't mind all of my questions. The process involved a bit of remodeling and there was some mess but they cleaned up after themselves as they went along. When the job was finished you couldn't tell they had even been there. I was really happy with the work by the technicians and with all the help I got when I had questions and called the office and spoke to Beatriz.
Description of Work: Removed an almost 40 year old natural gas wall heater and replaced with a brand new one.

He was very prompt and courteous. He took the time to explain how the radiant heat system works, since this is the first house we have owned with radiant heat. He was very knowledgeable and professional. He fixed what needed fixing and didn't try to sell us things we didn't need, like so many repairmen try to do. I would definitely recommend Tingey to family and friends.

Had a report from a tenant that smoke was coming from one of the wall heaters. Called Tingey Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning and scheduled an appointment for the next day. They were on time and ready to tackle the problem. Upon inspection they were able to determine that material from a seat above the heater was flaking and falling into the heater. Upon our request they removed the built in bench and cleaned out the heater of any additional material. They tested the heater to verify they had eliminated all causes of the smoke. Before leaving they cleaned their work area.

However, in December problems arose again. At the cost of a $150 diagnostic fee, they sent someone who hadn't dealt with the system before (last date of service from them is 2008) and who made a fix that turned out to be very temporary. When the same symptoms arose again (the system did not turn on when temperature dropped below set thermostat), another $150 diagnostic visit, this time from Ken who I had worked with before, head of co. and is definitely very knowledgeable, which led to a repair costing $500 or $600. The same symptom came up again, a return visit when, I will say, Ken and his assistant did an extremely unpleasant procedure that he hoped would solve the problem - another $600 as I recall. It did solve the problem in the short term, but Ken told me that it might recur and if so it would be necessary to do yet another repair that would be another $600 to $800. The problem did recur but by this time it was late March of a warm winter and because I could deal with it by hitting the reset switch (and I was home when that was needed, didn't have to worry about pipes freezing etc), I have put off this next stage. I am not sure whether I will call Tingey again or seek another provider.
Description of Work: I have used this company for some years because I have a rather quirky - definitely not standard - hot water heat system designed & built in the late 1930s. I used them knowing they were somewhat more pricey than others but I felt their inital understanding of the system & their 'institutional knowledge' of my system were worth it. But here are three things I have been really unhappy about in dealing with failures in the hot water system from December through March or April. Biggest: my boiler, new in 1991, is now reaching the end of its expected life, and a simple replacement would have cost about $4000 - however, no one told me this until we were into at least $1300 in repairs & diagnostic visits and looking at another $700 possible which it is now apparent will be necessary before winter. It is true that I was worried about cost but, even though it would be a bite at $4000, replacement would clearly have been the most cost-effective choice - I could have expected to be trouble-free for a long time. As it is, I now may have to replace it anyway within a year or two. Second: I was unhappy that the first time, and maybe another time, I was sent a tech who a) didn't know me or my system, did not appreciate my level of understanding of how my heating system works (BA in Physics, have lived in the house for 20+ years, have paid attention) (and possibly also because I am a middle-aged woman). I did ask questions and did try to tell him what I knew about the system & its history but I don't think he really listened. Given the subsequent history of the recurrent problems, and I did mention in passing that I was unhappy about the $150 charges for at least this diagnostic visit and this tech when we got into the big repairs - I would like to have seen a credit for that visit. Ken is generally good with listening to me and communicating to me what the problems & options are so I can make decisions, but could have done a lot better on this occasion by alerting me to the boiler-age issue much earlier. I know many, perhaps most homeowners both male & female, either don't want to get into the technical details or don't have the knowledge base I do for understanding their heating/plumbing issues - but, any of them would have appreciated knowing early on that the boiler was near needing replacement. The techs need also to be proactive in a situation like this - to note that the boiler possibly will need replacement within a year or two. The need for good communication & looking-forward approach is especially important for those of us in older homes (mine dates to 1938). Third, on Ken's first visit this go-round, I don't think he'd really looked over the history of the system before starting bigger repairs on it. Dealing with major home system repairs is the same as dealing with car repairs - how can the consumer know even what questions to ask? We need our providers to give us a view of issues like whether it's now time to replace the boiler instead of spending an indefinite but large amount of $$ to keep repairing it when in the near future it may just have to be replaced. I've dealt with a number of repair issues over the last couple years (car, computer, water main...) and the ones I am happy with have communicated this kind of forward-looking proactive information at an early stage of the work. I wouldn't say don't call Tingey, Ken is definitely very knowledgeable, experienced, and hardworking, but be sure to be prepared on a diagnostic visit with questions about the general prognosis.

They should have had the right tools the first time. I think they were expensive and the guy complained while he was working on the sink.
Description of Work: I had them hook up a garbage disposal and run water to the dishwasher. They had to hook up a sink in the bathroom as well, and they snaked both of my toilets. For one of the toilets, they didn't even have the right snake to do it so we still had the problem and they had to come back out and do it again.

They were okay for plumbing. They charge after they have done it and they say that it cost this amount. I am not sure if that is the best way to get the plumbing done. I looked under my sink and I thought there was a leak and so I called them. I looked under my kitchen sink and they couldn't find anything. They said this was a possible source and they would have to charge me $25-$50 for this. They went upstairs and did something in the bathroom. I got 2 things done and I am not sure what I paid for that. It was a price item and it was pretty funky I think. I might recommend them to people and I would recommend them to someone else. It is better to know stuff upfront and know exactly know much you have been charged and have it broken down. It would be nice to know the cost of parts and so on. They were just okay. Every time a plumber comes out you are worried about them. It is a nerve wracking experience when you have a plumber over because you never know what they are going to check and I always expect the worst. That is one of the more stressful things to use.

I apologize for our technician not communicating properly with you. This is what he did: he replaced the lavatory pop-up assembly. He also snaked the lavatory line. He also caulked the kitchen sink with silicone to prevent any water leaking underneath the cabinet. He checked your water hardness which was 16 grain. We always stress in company training meetings that the customer should be educated with what was done and why, so you feel the value of the service that was provided. My sincere apologies for our technician not doing the most important aspect of his job.

Description of Work: No service performed at time of this posting, as they were 90 minutes behind schedule. As they were 90 They were scheduled a week in advance to come look at our gas fireplace at 4:30pm. I called at 4:45pm to see if they were coming and they said they were running behind and should be there around 6:00pm. I understand delays occurr, but contractors should be professional enough to let customers know. I think 90 minute delay justifies a courtesy call, rather than expecting customer to stay home and disregard other committments waiting for a contractor to show up late. I would not use them again and would not recommend them. The only way contractors will be more professional and mindful of their customers is through customers making a strong stand that there are others out there who can do the job and go elsewhere, otherwise their negative habbits continue to be negatively reinforced. Once I find a good contractor, they are entered into my blackberry and used numerous times by me and referred to every person I know who is in need of the service.

I am sorry that you had this experience as we try our best to get the technicians to understand the importance of good grooming. This tech was younger and hasn't been in the work force as long, nor does he belong to the generation that understands why its so important, we did give him a warning in response to your comments. We do stress grooming as very important and you just proved out point.

I have been using Tingey Plumbing for years and they have never failed to fix my problem. I have a boiler in the house and the house was sounding haunted at times. They came out and could not find a reason for the noise but gave me some great suggestions to do if it happened again. At the same time they were there, I told them it was time to have my system drained and serviced. They had time that same day so the boiler guy came over and drained the system and removed any air from the system. Guess what, it also fixed the haunted house issue. Another happy experience.
