Description of Work: I got estimates from 2 other plumbers and all bids were similar. I chose Shawn because of his professional manner and timely arrival. One of the other plumbers arrived an hour late and I cannot work with people that waste my time. I scheduled an 8:30AM appointment with Shawn and at 8:30 he was at my door. In the past, I had 2 other plumbers try to repair a leak in my exterior faucet and they were both unsuccessful. Shawn did repair it and I have seen no leak since. He also replaced my bathtub faucet and my basement bathroom shower head. I was pleased at how fast he finished and at how well he cleaned up after himself. I found him to be knowledgeable, prompt, tidy, professional, and cordial. Thank you Angie's List, I am thrilled that I found him. I would definitely recommend Shawn and will hire him again for my future needs.

Description of Work: I asked Shawn Hall to open a clogged drain. He does not have the equipment to open drains. Reviewing this, the B rating I initially gave him was a fudge, since I was not allowed to use the more appropriate N/A for an overall assessment. I guess it was an attempt at a compromise between my previous A ratings and the N/A he should have gotten for this. I have changed it to an "A", which isn't appropriate for this call, but consistent with my previous experience. For anything but drain cleaning, I recommend him highly. The only "negative" here is "don't call him for drain cleaning". For anything else, check out my previous "A" reports. My apologies to Shawn for taking so long to notice and correct this unfair blight on an otherwise excellent record.

 + 1 moreWe called Mr. Hall the night our water heater went out. He came the next day with a new water heater, installed the water heater with a pan, and installed new shutoff valves. He came when he said he would, did the job in a very timely and professional manner, and charged us what he said he would. We will definitely call him again when we need plumbing help.
Description of Work: Mr. Hall installed a new water heater and a pan for the heater with a pipe running directly into a drain. He also installed new valves so that we could shut off the water to our water heater without shutting off the water to the entire house.

 + -1 moreI have used Shawn Hall for several years. His work is excellent. Start to finnish. Everthing is perfect. Every job, Every time. We Started the job in April with the removal of the old tops and installed in May with the new fawcets that were ordered.
Description of Work: I was having new countertop installed in all 3 bathrooms in the house. Shawn disconnected the plumbing. After the new countertop were installed Shawn installed new fawcets. We are still waiting for a part from Standard Plumbing that had to be special ordered.

 + -1 moreI paid $90 an hour as opposed to the $85 listed here on Angies. He was very professional and does quality work. My only complaint is that I didn't have some of the fixtures/supplies purchased and ready and so I had to have him come back a second time to complete the job. A simple heads up on the phone when I made the appointment something like 'here's what I need from you' would have saved some time and money. If I knew the intricacies of plumbing I then I wouldn't need a plumber right.

Started off with Shawn on small jobs -- install kitchen faucets, run water line to refrigerator (new house but line was either not run or sheetrocked over, cut-down plumbing vent pipe outside. Shawn was reliable and diligent about his work! We later needed trouble-shooting on hot water to MBR shower. Shawn figured out how to get it done in an efficient manner without tearing up tile/sheetrock, etc. Finally, we had Shawn install a water softener. He recommended a more expensive brand but gave us the reasons for going with it rather than a Home Depot/ Lowes model. He was willing to install the cheaper model if that was better for us, but just wanted to make sure we knew what we were getting. We decided on the model he recommended and have been very satisfied.
Description of Work: Small projects -- Install faucets, cut-down outside plumbing vent. Troubleshooting -- running water line for PEX system to kitchen refrigerator, increasing hot water pressure to MBR shower Bigger project -- installing new water softener

 + -1 moreI needed to set up the appointment long distance for my parent's home. Shawn returned my call promptly and we spoke a few times prior to the appointment when I would be visiting. He was there right on time, walked through with us to see the problems we had and went to work. He was very fast, very thorough and a great help with ideas on how to prevent some of the problems in the future. His charges were very reasonable and fair. He did a fantastic job.

 + 1 moreExcellent job. He arrived on time, made prompt start, worked steadily, answered any questions I had, and cleaned up everything after he was done. As to quality of work, he went the extra mile on things as a matter of course. For example, with the installation of the new lines for the water heater and water softener, he marked all the lines with appropriate in and out directional arrows, such as "hot -> and hot and cold <-" so there wouldn't be any question about what went where if future owners wanted to change anything.
Description of Work: First, this is an OLD OLD house in the Avenues with all the attendant plumbing problems, add-ons and innovations that have occurred over the last 100+ years. That being said, Shawn arrived promptly to evaluate the problems and submitted his bid the same day. Work included: Remove old hot water heater, install new water heater, install new water softener with required new plumbing lines for installation, repair and replace outdoor water pipes and valves, put new main shutoff valve in basement, install pressure reducer valve where main enters house, replace faucets on laundry room sink and washing machine, fix leak on first floor bathroom water closet. The kitchen sink had a faucet drip leak that might or might not have been cured when the pressure reduction valve was installed. If the leak continued after pressure reducer was installed, he would determine the source of the problem and correct it as an additional time and materials charge added to the original bid. It turned out that he had to replace the seats and cartridges on kitchen sink (he showed me the wear on the parts before he went out to get the replacements)-both taps so there was an additional 1/2 hour labor and $30.00 for some semi-exotic faucet seats and cartridges since the sink had fancier than usual faucets on it.

 + -1 moreShawn showed up on time and started the installation. I had cut a small hole in the drywall in the ceiling of my basement before he showed up. With a little ingenuity, we were able to fish the flexible pipe through the basement ceiling. Shawn then drilled a hole adjacent to the gas meter and connected the flexible line to the gas main. He then finished the remainder of the connections at the stove end and completed the job in about an hour and a half.
Description of Work: I had Shawn install a natural gas line from the main to a new kitchen stove. The primary problem with the installation was because my basement is finished and I wanted to disturb as little drywall as possible. Shawn accommodated my request and did the job quickly and efficiently by using flexible gas piping and a fishing tool.

 + -1 moreAfter a bad experience with another company, I carefully reviewed Angie's List for recommendations, called about 8 of the best-rated plumbers, about two-thirds returned my call, of the ones I spoke to, a couple would not guess at the cost of a faucet replacement on the phone, only with a visit (with mandatory dispatch fee). Two were willing to both share what they thought it would cost, and come without any dispatch fee. Shawn Hall was the one I decided on based on availability. Shawn (himself) came right on time, finished in less time than expected, was helpful in answering questions and making recommendations and was able to do even more than I expected (changing the valve, checking faucet) within that first hour that the faucet job alone was likely to take. I asked for several of his cards to share with neighbors and would recommend and call him back in an instant. It was a terrific experience and I couldn't be more delighted.
Description of Work: Replaced kitchen faucet, changed faulty shut-off valve, checked bathroom faucet condition.
