Description of Work: called to try and get an estimate for a shower enclosure and discuss options. the man I spoke to was rude right out of the shute and said they weren't interested in giving me an estimate unless I was "ready to move forward" with the job. when I mentioned it's not possible to move forward without discussing options and costs, it went down hill. I was spoken to in a condescending manner. No thanks. I'll take my business and money elsewhere.

Description of Work: I used Sawyer Glass Co Inc to get the glass table top done three weeks ago.

Description of Work: I purchased a large etched glass 3/8” shower enclosure for a guest bedroom. Work was beautiful. However, the piece of glass supporting the door inexplicably shattered (as a guest was at the sink). Upon examination, Sawyer determined the point of breakage was 2” from the floor near the point where the shower door attached. Their explanation was that ‘it is an uncommon occurrence. ‘ ‘Sometimes it is a defect in the glass -- sometimes settling of the house -- could be an error in installation.’ What this boiled down to was : 1) Defect in the glass? -- Manufacturer and Sawyer provided no guarantee (4yrs) 2) Settling of the house ?-- the house is 80 yrs.old and done settling. In any case, the entire shower is newly tiled at the time of installation and no cracks or settling could now be detected. 3) Error in installation? The most recent measurement showed 1/8 ‘ off the original contract. They like to thin of that as evidence of settling. Without any evidence of settling which should be shown in the tile, I feel it could be interpreted as evidence of installation error. In any case, they said people don’t have 4 year warranties on cars, so why should I expect one on this (I pointed out that car’s WEAR out - not shower doors). They admitted that was a bad analogy. I’m not sure that with NO evidence as to ANY cause that I really feel entitled to a full guarantee. It does seem that I would not have purchased the etched glass shower (at considerable expense for a really quality product) had I known it would last only 4 yrs. An offer to replace it at cost would have seemed appropriate in order to stand behind their product. None was forthcoming. Update 6-11: The company has offered the compromise to replace the work at their cost of material. This seems fair. In this situation, there are no winners. They have taken some of the sting out of what legally should have been my loss. Update 7-6: Re-installation is complete and is great. I’m glad we could come to a satisfactory agreement for this situation.
