 + -1 moreI had to take a second day off work, because the young technician couldn't wire the A/C to our 40-yr.-old circuit breaker box. The "electrician" who came the next day isn't a journeyman, and needed help to rig up a safe set of wiring. The man who did all except the heavy (240 volts) wiring didn't know how to wire to the thermostat so we wouldn't need to lose the "fan only" mode at the theremostat. But fortunately he thought to phone someone and find out how to do it. I was a bit upset at being asked to give up the "fan only" mode, especially since we'll no longer be using our semi-wonderful evap./swamp cooler to blow air thru the house occasionally. I was pleased with their answers to questions, and with informat volunteered to us by the technicians and the salesman. I believe they try to do the best job they could, but the young technicians weren't as skilled and experienced as I would wish. I'm not certain that the price was competitive.
Description of Work: Whole-house air conditioner installed. For our 900 sq. ft., home (We're not going to cool the basement) a 3-ton ton unit was recommended, along w/ a 3-ton "caged coil." If my memory is correct, when we told the salesman that my wife is very sensitive to both heat and noise, he recommended buying the 3 ton size, not 2-1/2 ton. He recommended a good spot in back of the house, where noise from the (condenser? compressor?) unit wouldn't be heard in the 2 closest bedrooms. The brand ( ?name? ) is made by Amana. The salesman claimed that this model is a better value (better quality for the price) than a Lennox of the same size. 10 year warranty to us or subsequent owner, & lifetime warranty to us. 6 mon. same as cash terms, thru the GE credit system.

Description of Work: I have an old refrigerated air conditioner. I had the company repair the leaks. They responded and sealed the leaks. They informed my that they could not insure that I wouldn't have other problems. They thought that I would be better off if I bought a new air conditioner. I am retired and didn't have the money for a new unit. I was impressed with their honesty. I would use them again if I needed service in this area.

 + -1 moreI contacted Sameday Heating & Air when our furnace began making a loud noise. The technician came to our house within days of my calling and determined that the motor on the furnace needed to be replaced. He did not have a replacement part with him or at their shop, so we waited nearly two weeks for the part to arrive from the manufacturer and for the technician to come back. The technician was very friendly and professional, but we were unhappy with the length of time it took to complete the repairs.
Description of Work: Technician replaced motor in 1st floor furnace.

 + -1 moreOur air conditioner stopped working on the first hot day of the summer. I checked Angie's List and found that SameDay Heating & Air had the highest ratings of anyone around. I called them and a sales rep came out that very evening. He wasn't at all pushy. He sized up the job and gave us a report and estimate. He explained the different grades of air conditioners and when we chose a middle-of-the-road model, he was fine with that and didn't try to up-sell us. He mentioned that our heater was looking pretty sad (which we were well aware of) and said he could discount the cost of a new heater if we bundled it with the new air conditioner. Again, he wasn't pushy, but he took time to explain the benefits. When the installers came, they were well prepared, polite, and knowledgeable. We got them some pizzas and sodas for lunch and they were very appreciative. They cleaned up well after the installation and even fixed some ducting in the heater room at no charge. The only "dings" I might give are that (1) the sales rep said he would bring us our government rebate paperwork so that we can get some money off on our taxes, but he hasn't yet and (2) the sales rep said that the installers would place a soundproofing pad under the air conditioning unit, but they didn't. I asked them why they hadn't and they had a reasonable explanation, so I let it go. Fortunately, the unit is nice and quiet, so I don't think it was a problem not to put the pad down.

 + -1 moreWe had called Same Day a year before when we purchased the home but the bid was over what we could afford at the time. We felt very comfortable with Larry, the representative, and when we decided to look into getting AC this year we called Same Day again and asked for Larry specifically. Larry was very honest - he told us what was not necessary and even ideas that would save money. I appreciated his candidness which is why we chose to work with him. We had 4 other companies come out and they were by far the best. I wouldn't trust my home to another. Their work did take a little longer than anticipated but they did a quality job and kept my home clean. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: We had a new 95% effiicient furnace, 16 seer AC unit, and central humidifier installed. They had to run new wiring for the AC as we did not have central AC previously.

I got a call this morning from someone at this company who had read my report here--which was glowing except for the departure for an hour and a half lunch that went for three hours. I was told that they weren't happy that the installer had not called me to say he would be away twice as long as he had said and offered me an addition year of service
Description of Work: I called on Thursday (10/15) based on reports here. They scheduled a visit between 9 and 10 the next morning. The diagnostician was prompt and told me what I suspected: it was time for a new furnace. The head of sales arrived about half an hour after the first man left. He was most helpful in describing the possibilities, efficiency of each and options available. I made my selection and we scheudled installation for Monday morning between nine and ten. At ten on the dot the installer called to say he would be late. He arrived at 10:30, looked over the site where the furnace would go and started to work. He left at 12:40 for lunch and to fetch something from the shop. He said he would be back in an hour to an hour and ahalf. My complaint is that he did not return until 3:30 which meant that he did not finish the job until 7:30 which was later than I would have liked. My new furnace is much more efficient than the one it replaced, is far quieter and has a programmable thermostat which I think I will love. The installation must be inspected which the company will arrange to be sure that the job was done properly. The company also applied for and got the requisite permits. The price I was promised was the price I paid. There were no hidden costs or "by the way"s at the end. I really appreciate that. I got a call today (10/30) about the little thing that had bothered me about the installation. The man in charge at this company had read my report and taken action. I was impressed..

 + -1 moreIt went well, but there were a few glitches, and the process ended up taking three visits instead of "same day." I went with this company despite several lower bids because I was impressed with the Angie's List reports, and because the bidder was very knowledgeable and honest. The installer seemed to be extremely skilled at his work, but was late twice and almost installed the incorrect humidifier. Because of this mistake, some of the work had to redone to accommodate the correct humidifier. Still, small potatoes, and he did good work. On the first day the old furnace was removed and the new one installed. Unfortunately, (and no one called to tell me this), the humidifier was not available. Also, some of the ducting had to be redone to accommodate opening the closet door, so a new appointment was set. This time the installer was late and arrived with the incorrect humidifer, which would have been installed if I hadn't checked it. (Caveat emptor.) Third time was the charm and all was completed as specified in the contract. I don't know what to compare it to, but the work seems of very good quality and I'm more than satisfied with it. Bottom line: Expect the process to take longer than you might think, and check the equipment that's installed. It'll be worth it, and you'll be happy with SameDay because they make the effort to do the job right.

 + -1 moreThe salesman came to our residence and did a thorough examination of our home. He measured everything to determine our load requirements and then gave us multiple options on what we could install. He explained to us which options would give us the rebates from both the local companies and the feds. He wouldn't give us a quote the first visit and said he would give it to us the next day. We had four companies, including Same Day, give us bids on heating and air. The salesman was very punctual and a bit high pressure by offering us deals if we acted then. Within a day of signing the agreement, the installers showed up on time and went to work. The model we were told we were getting was discontinued so there was a bit of a tense moment as we worried that we might be getting a bait and switch, but the salesman rectified everything by changing the order to another model that he said that was a bit more expensive but at no additional charge. Within two days we had both the furnace and the air conditioner installed, including a filtration system and they all were done very professionally.
Description of Work: We replaced old furnace with a new high efficiency model and had a variable stage high efficient central air conditioner installed.

 + -1 moreWas great to work with. First checked furnace to make sure everything was functioning properly, then went to the A/C unit to check. Ran diagnostic on coolant level and confirmed that the unit was low. Refilled with coolant and was going to follow up on replacement A/C unit because of leak in system and change from coolant to more environmentally-friendly coolant in a few years as per government regulations.
Description of Work: Checked furnace and air conditioner. Charged air conditioner with R-22 to get cool air going again in house.

He got it to work temporarily so it would work until the new one could be installed. They put in new ducting. He was very good at explaining things and honest. The price was good and comparable to others.

The technician claimed that the inducer motor was going out, the burners were plugged up, the blower motor was struggling to start, basically he wanted to sell me a new furnace. I got a second opinion and it turns out that the only thing wrong was the filter needed to be replaced. This company did not represent the situation with honesty, and they are fraudulent.

 + -1 moreIt went very well. I was impressed that I called on Monday with the temperature about 100 and they were able to schedule a technician to come the next morning. He called 15 minutes before the appointment and arrived on time. Diagnosis took about 5 minutes. He had the part on the truck and installed it in about 15 minutes. He was friendly and professional. My only concern was lack of clarity in what was covered by the $79 diagnosis charge. I thought that applied to the repair but he said that it didn't that any repair charges would be additional but when he left he charged about $140 for the part with no additional installation charge. I assume that the installation was included in the diagnosis fee or in the charge for the part, but that wasn't clear.

Everyone showed up when they said they would and respond to our concerns. Once started, the work took three days. The only issue was that we were hoping to relocate the inside unit by a few feet, but that did not happen. It is up to the customer to be clear about what he/she wants.
Description of Work: The Company replaced our old HVAC system with a much more efficient unit. The new system tied into the old duct work.

 + -1 moreI'm unimpressed with their customer service and scheduling. I made an appointment to have my furnace filter system changed - more than a week in advance - for a Friday, and they left a message on my voice mail the evening before telling me that they couldn't make it out to see me the next day. Because the day the work was scheduled for was a Friday, it meant we faced the whole weekend with the work still unfinished - and dust still coming out of our furnace ducts. I tried to find someone else to do the work on short notice but was (unsurprisingly) unsuccessful. This company may have good technicians (I wouldn't know), but they need to get their scheduling act together.
