The home next to mine was occupied by an elderly woman who could no longer live in the house. She left the residence in the spring of 2014. On July 10th, 2014 we observed that the house was being gutted. My son called me at work to say that one of the workers was drinking a beer on the front lawn at 9am. This did not seem like regular contractor behavior. I was concerned enough to call the city the next day to see what was being done. The city had no record of a permit for demolition or the required asbestos tests being done. The city subsequently shut down the demolition. During the 3 day period of work, 2 dumpsters worth of demolition debris was taken away from the home. I felt that the lack of asbestos testing put my family at risk for potential asbestos exposure.
Description of Work: Work done without asbestos test, building permit. Had to call the city to get work stopped. Totally unprofessional.

I joined Angie's List specifically to look for well-reviewed finish carpentry companies. Most of them never responded, including this one. I am very disappointed.
Description of Work: This company never responded to me--I contacted them through Angie's List to describe my project and ask if they were interested in bidding it. It has now been more than a month with no response.

Tyler met with us to discuss the job. He set an appointment date and was on time. He sent the proposal via email and itemized each expense. We do not own a truck, Tyler was kind enough to meet us at Home Depot to look at the molding and transported the molding for us. Once again, he was on time and patiently assisted us with selecting the appropriate molding. We had just recently painted the rooms. One would expect to have some painting mishaps. Tyler is so meticulous the prior paint job remained in tact. The railing and molding are both evenly lined and as I said looks fantastic! Tyler makes inquiries, as to where is the best place to put materials when he is working. He is considerate of the clients' time and and an effective communicator. We are in the process now of thinking about a big project for the Spring or Summer. We sincerely hope Tyler will be able to be the one who does this project for us. Sincerely, The Stampers
Description of Work: Tyler installed chair rails and crown molding in our family room and our master bedroom. Tyler installed different rooms at different times. The installation completely changed the ambiance in the rooms. It is beautiful. Tyler is the quintessential professional. He is always punctual, involves you and ask pertinent questions to ensure he understands the needs of his clients. He cleans up after each job and completes the job on schedule. I would highly recommend Tyler. On one personal note Tyler is a very honest individual. Credibility matters to me and Tyler is held in high regards in our family. By the way it was $700.00 for each room. They were done at different dates. The price above is for 2 rooms.

We are extremely happy about his work and right now are hoping he will be able to remodel our two bathrooms.
Description of Work: Tyler replaced four large windows in our 2nd floor condominium. It took less than one day. I do not think he had ever done this before, but the work was excellent. We purchased the windows at a large box store, and their contractor wanted to charge per window as much as Tyler did for all four windows.

We needed a handyman to help us with about 12 different issues around our home. He worked diligently and with a sense of purpose...he didn't take his time to make the clock run. After 5 hours, he had fixed everything, and all of his work was excellent. He recommended alternate ways of fixing things that would save us money. We recommend him and will definately use him again.

I am really disappointed. I have a couple of small drywall projects I need done, so naturally I came to Angie's List and began reading reviews. Rockwall Remodel has raving reviews with costs ranging from $100 to into the thousands. I thought I couldn't go wrong hiring them. I called a couple weeks ago and left a message. I heard nothing back, though I gave them the benefit of the doubt seeing as messages get lost, phones don't always cooperate, etc., etc. I called last Thursday and left another message. I followed up with a text. Nothing. No response whatsoever.

I received a couple quotes prior to the work and Tyler was half what the others wanted. When he was finished I could not tell the old from the new part of the deck. He did a beautiful job with the repair.
Description of Work: Tyler did a deck repair. I had a tree taken out that left a big hole in the deck.
I can't say enough positive things about Tyler, who we found through Angie's List. We got estimates from three different people -- Tyler's was more expensive than the others, but when we met with all of the candidates, it was immediately obvious that Tyler was SO much more attentive to detail. The other folks sort of walked through the kitchen and said "yeah, yeah, no problem...." but Tyler went into the basement, went all over the house checking out various structural things that would be involved in the repairs. We just felt more confident that he would leave nothing to chance, and that was correct. EVERYTHING was done on time, and with incredible quality (he actually finished ahead of schedule), he was always incredibly prompt, went over everything with us, he was a dream to work with. We have already recommended him to several friends, and we have no doubt that whenever we need any home repair done in the future, he will be our first and our only call. Thank goodness for Angie's List!!!!!
Description of Work: We were having our entire kitchen remodeled, and we hired Tyler Rockwood to do basically everything EXCEPT the installation of the cabinets and countertops (we had those installed by the place we bought them from). Tyler tore down and gutted our entire existing kitchen, repaired a bunch of drywall, got rid of all the wallpaper, repainted, mouseproofed it, did all the new electrical, all the new lighting (including lighting inside the cabinets), installed all the new appliances (including a fancy island range hood), took care of new wiring for the new gas range (which he worked with an electrician to do), and did the tiling for the backsplash.

Tyler did a fabulous job. He is pretty busy, so try to schedule your work about 2 weeks out. I did this, and Tyler showed up right on schedule, prepared to do the work. He was only here a couple of hours and did amazing work. You can't even tell where the patching stops and the original ceiling begins. I was super-impressed with how quickly he worked, his professionalism and friendliness, and the quality of his work. He spent much of the time protecting my kitchen, which I really appreciated because I just remodeled it, and was dreading ceiling drywall getting all over everything (it didn't, yay!). He also cleaned up well after the work, which I also appreciated. All in all, start to finish, a terrific experience!
Description of Work: Tyler fixed some damage to my kitchen ceiling caused by old cabinets which had been built into the ceiling drywall. He also patched a hole in the ceiling caused by moving a chandelier to a different location, and matched the ceiling texture around another chandelier to the texture of the existing ceiling.

He showed up on the day and time agreed for the estimate, and on the day to do the work. He brought his own tools, kept the mess from cutting the wood outside (and I think he swept up the driveway afterwards). The work looks great; he caulked and painted over, and touched up adjacent very old moulding that was already installed.

Scheduling the estimate and the work was easy, the hardest part about scheduling is working around my own limitations. He returns calls and shows up when he says he will. He did not leave a mess. My dog likes him and Tyler closes the back gate so the dog doesn't get out. I gave Tyler some general ideas for what I wanted for shelves in one cabinet and he made it functional and attractive too. I also asked him to make some little platforms for the dog's bowls to get them out of the way. He put a lip around to keep the dogs from pushing the bowl off the shelf, and the height is just right for the dogs to eat comfortably. I am very happy with his work and I have hired him for additional work.
Description of Work: A lot of little jobs to finish up my kitchen remodel - install a new under cabinet light and move an existing light, install several shelves in a kitchen cabinet, install a new corner shelf, hanging a decorative tile, install some moulding, and build & install two really cute platforms for dog bowls and install moulding in a bedroom (reviewed separately).

We requested an estimate from Mr. Rockwell. While we were waiting for his estimate over the holidays we puttered and ended up doing the work ourselves. He was prompt, came for the estimate exactly when he said he would, and he was very helpful. We will certainly call on him again.
Description of Work: None: we started puttering and did the work ourselves over the holiday.
I called 10 companies for an estimate, three came to the house including Tyler, but he was the only one to submit an estimate. I thought this was commendable on his part because the only big jobs really were painting, moving a utility sink and GFI outlet in the bathroom, the rest was non-technical and stuff I should have been able to do but didn't want to take the time for. Tyler showed up on time for the estimate and the work. There was a lot of dog and child damage from the previous owners but it looks beautiful and like new. Tyler let me change my mind about some things and add other things but didn't increase the charge, I had forgotten to mention some things during the first walk-through. I also got to inspect everything at the end, he had done a fabulous and meticulous job!
Description of Work: fixed drywall damage throughout house. painted upstairs, stairs, and downstairs bedroom. textured downstairs bedroom ceiling. secured front and garage hand rails. put in GFI outlet in bathroom and replaced three other outlets. put up new bathroom mirror. moved utility sink from basement to garage. repaired siding on outside of house

We decided to go with another guy but it was just a matter of choice. He was very competent and I was going to have him do it. It was a matter of opinion between my husband and I. He knew what he was talking about and when we told him about the toilet he knew what we were talking about. He encouraged us to keep the old tile and just fix the grout. He was positive and very thorough. He wanted us to show him everything so he knew what he was looking at. He was very pleasant. I felt very confident that he knew what he was talking about because my father was a carpenter. I would have hired him. He asked questions but he didn't pester me with questions. He came when he said he would and he got back to us. He got back to us quite soon but my husband thought it was a little more than what we wanted to pay. We had another guy come in but we only had him fix the toilet. I thought his price was reasonable. There was not much difference in what they were going to charge and what the guy we used charged.
Description of Work: We got a quote from Rockwood Remodel because we had some cracking where we had taken out a lot of blinds so we had holes where the drapery had been. We wanted him to fix the holes in preparation for us painting. My husband is not handy and we had him look at a cupboard where the upper handle had come off. It was an original 1959 hall closet cupboard. He also looked at our 1/2 bath toilet that was leaking and the faucet in the kitchen that was leaking. He also looked at building a shelf in my utility room. We also wanted him to fix a door on a cabinet in the utility room where the door wasn't on quite right. We wanted all the cracks and holes fixed so we could paint.
