Jordan and his team were very professional and left our house spotless. We have always received good quality, long-lasting windows from Anderson. Yes, they are pricey, but it is always quality work. The installers had to deal with all of the issues revolving around a nearly 100 year old house with decaying window casings and difficult access on a tiny lot with a SHARED driveway. They were terrific.

After the company's "scouts" were in the neighborhoods and snagged me while I was outside getting my mail, I decided to meet with a salesperson since I was looking to replace my sliding glass door. The salesperson was friendly and very knowledgeable and presented their products and services well. Overall, the whole consultation/estimate meeting was a pleasant experience. However, a few aspects near the end of the meeting were deal-breakers for me. The first was, when the salesman was just about to give me a price estimate, he claimed he had forgotten to add in the price of staining the wood on the door, but oh well, he would just have to take that as his loss. Obviously, a sales tactic to make a customer think s/he is getting a "special" deal. The next negative aspect was the quoted price. Of course, the quote starts outrageously high - in this case, over $11,000 - but after the whole list of deals, special promotions, etc., were applied, the price came down to $8,000. Still outrageously high, in my opinion. Then, the next negative aspect was the "if you commit today" discount of $400. If a product or service is worth it, pressure tactics like this aren't needed. After the salesperson left, I had time to do some online research on the company. On the positive side, everyone, everywhere says their products and services are superior; pretty much the best available. Customers are very happy with the quality and years of long-lasting durability. Even people in the industry had to praise their quality. On the negative side, many customers complained of extremely pushy salespeople who would bash and bad-talk any and all other companies and products (though this was not my experience). Also on the negative side were the comments about their prices. Most everyone said they are too expensive, even ridiculously expensive. So, if a very high price is not your concern when getting quality windows/doors installed, I'd say go with Renewal By Andersen. If you're like me and appreciate quality, but don't have money to burn and can't justify spending $7,600 for a door, find another company that can appreciate the average consumer's need to balance price and quality.

The initial meeting was the salesperson was fairly high pressure. We felt the product was good quality so that is why we purchased it but didn't enjoy the 3 hour sales meeting with the rep in our home. We were told installation would be in 6-8 weeks. When we called at 8 weeks after hearing nothing we were told it would be 4 more weeks. Better communication needs to happen there. The installers did a great job for the most part but balked at doing a few things that were requested. Some of the things the salesman promised weren't actually done unless I questioned them on it. There painter sub was great but the stucco sub was awful. Love the product but not sure I love the company and high price.

Our experience with Norton and Sterling Matheson, in particular, was terrible. I would not recommend them and I will never do business with them*. We contacted Norton, to request a bid to repair one window and replace another. We contacted Norton because they are the sole supplier of Andersen windows in Salt Lake* and we wanted our replacement windows to match our existing windows (all of the 44 windows in our house are Anderson). In any event, Sterling Matheson came out to give us an estimate and either (a) thought our request was beneath him, or (b) has a problem dealing with women; we will never know because after visiting our house and discussing the request with my wife, Sterling refused to answer his phone, return several voice-mails or return e-mail requests. Ablsolutely terrible. I can only wonder at the high ratings Norton has received to date (A rated; 8 reviews). Were they all large jobs (new construction, full replacement) worthy of Sterling's attention; was the request made by a male; or did someone else handle the bid? I would not give my patronage to Nortons if I had any choice*. *Nortons, however, is the sole supplier of Andersen windows in Salt Lake and therefore, whoever we choose to install our windows, will have to purchase from Nortons; it galls me.

Crew arrived on time every day (3 days). Friendly, polite, courteous. They used drop cloths everywhere, and cleaned up after themselves in every room. They hulled away the old windows. They cut the trim pieces on the driveway and cleaned up the sawdust and debris. Not a screw or piece of wood was seen when the left. The installation crew even gave me advice on how to replace my back door, and helped me by looking at a problem door in the garage. Took him 5 minutes and it was fixed. The man who did the inside window staining spent an hour mixing various stains in order to get a perfect match with the current woodwork. Once we approved the color, he worked quickly and efficiently. Very pleasant man. Joked with our grandboys who were visiting. Stained one day, and put on the finish coat the second day. I don't know what happened with the one bad review listed above. It does not sound like the same company. We've replaced windows in three previous homes (out of 12), and the Norton people are by far the best experience we've encountered. We are now going to replace the siding on the back of the house. We are leaning towards using Norton based upon our positive experience in window replacement. We would recommend this company to family and friends. No, we have no personal association with anyone in this company.
Description of Work: We have a 100 year old home. Windows all leaked, are not square, would not close completely. Found that we cannot get storm windows due to the odd sizes of the 100 year old windows. There is one company in SLC who makes custom storm windows. Their price far exceeded new window replacement. So we interviewed about 5 window companies. Everything from wood, aluminum, vinyl, composite, and any combination of those. Our home had the original casement windows. We wanted to maintain the original look and character of the home. Most of the companies we interviewed wanted to do vinyl that would have changed the character of the home. We wanted the outside to be a bronze color and the inside to match the wood of the home. It came down to Pell and Anderson. The Pella cost was so excessive we could not afford the windows, and they could not do wood on the inside with fiberglass outside. Our only option with them was to go with all wood windows which were very expensive. Anderson replacement windows offers fiber on the outside with wood on the inside. So we called Norton Exteriors as they are the only Anderson factory authorized replacement company in Utah. This is a multi-generation family business, so the owner (son) visited with us on two occasions to answer our questions. He showed us the Anderson Fiber windows that has fiber on the outside and wood inside. The windows are beautiful, double pain, low e, gas filled. We visited their showroom to compare various available window styles, colors, and material. We were impressed. We have replaced every window of the home. .

Overall, I would not recommend this company until they improve their customer service and installation crew ability
Description of Work: I contacted Norton's for an estimate and one of the owners, Ralph, came to the house. He raved about the crew going to install the windows. I already knew that I did not want vinyl replacement windows. I liked most things about the windows, not some things like the drainage system for rain/snow. This was the last time I talked to Ralph, even though I tried to call him as the job was taking entirely too long to replace 11 windows and I was having issues with the installation crew ie. there were missing holes for levers on some windows and some windows did not have the custom bronze levers that I ordered to come with the windows (I am still waiting for these.), one of the windows has a broken seal, a screen was ripped during installation and still not replaced, the trim that I had them put on the outside of the house is crooked and needs to be straightened on 2 large windows and they cut the siding of the house when they installed this trim...still waiting for them to replace the damaged siding and seal all the windows. Ralph and Tony said that Tony would be here for the installation of the windows..this did not happen. He had a "meeting". The painter, Wes, a subcontractor for Norton's, was professional, clean, on time and did what he said he would do. The wood veneer on the inside of the windows needed to be stained and finished to match the existing trim. He did this beatifully even though he had to return to darken the veneer after the first staining. I give him an "A". For the past 3 weeks, I have called Tony to ask him to please repair the trim outside and replace my cedar siding. He said he is trying to get up here to Park City but he has not to date. My house is scheduled to be stained in 2 weeks and I will have to cancel it for this year if the window job isn't finished. I am quite disappointed in the service from this company and do not feel I am getting the service that I am paying for......forgot to mention that the lead installer drilled holes for 2 levers for the windows that did not have them, and behold, he went in on an angle and drilled a hole too big for the screw provided causing 2 levers to pull out of the window when I try to use them to open or close the windows.

Response from Renewal by Andersen of Utah
We apologize that Member did not receive the outstanding service and experience with our company that we pride ourselves on providing. We thank her for the comments and have already made changes in our scheduling and ordering department to prevent the delays that occurred on her job. Both owners of the company, Ralph and Shawn Feurer, are in the office and available to all of our customers every day. I am sorry Member was not able to connect with one of us and get these issues resolved sooner. Nearly all of our window installations are completed in 1-3 days. On this project we were asked to work only on Thursdays as that was the day that Member was available. This request did hinder our ability to complete the project in a timely manner. Only working on Thursdays made a project that already had some delays take even longer. Working one day a week makes a 5 day job turn into a 5 week project. This request, our mis-order of window parts, and Member adding additional exterior trim work to the project all contributed to this taking much longer than it should have. We again apologize to Member for our mistakes on the project and the subsequent delays. As far as the installation, all of our installers are employees (not sub-contractors) and have been trained to install Renewal by Andersen products. Our company is celebrating our 40th year in business and is proud to be the exclusive Renewal by Andersen dealer for the state of Utah. Although we had some issues arise on this project we corrected and finished everything to her satisfaction. Member has been contacted by our office and other than the delay she is now happy with the job. We know that she will love the beauty, efficiency, and comfort of her new Renewal by Andersen windows for years to come.

Called Norton for a quote for new windows. The representative did a good job of educating and explaining the differences in his product and vinyl. His product was more money but I got frustrated because he would not give me a quote without coming back to my home present it. I was getting other quotes and needed to know what his product was going to cost to consider it. Ultimately, I went with vinyl because I couldn't get the information I wanted from Norton when I asked directly. Norton seems like a great company, but they need to remember the needs of their customers and not just how superior their product is.

After we accepted the bid, Tony (service manager I believe) setup the work. Tony is an incredible guy. Professional, pays attention, you can tell he just "gets it" and I totally trust him. The window installation went exactly as planned. The trim work was good and I was happy with the install. Had some problems with the stucco firm they hired (Utah Stone and Stucco) to do the finish work after the windows were installed. Quite poor work. The stucco trim actually sloped in towards the house capturing water, the finish was very rough, and did not have a consistent reveal. Sloppy. They left debris around, left gates open (thankfully my dog was in the house), and put some planks (used to stand on while installing windows) onto my deck railing - taking off some paint. They did come back out and fix it (Tony took care of that). The stucco is still not great but acceptable. I happened to have a roof problem that Tony noticed when he was out looking at the windows. He recommended a roofer and even called them. The roofer did a great job. This has nothing to do with the window, but it shows how Norton treats their customers. I would highly recommend Nortons's although when I put in my next set of windows I will really have to talk to them about who they have do the stucco. Don't let that stucco story put you off - I will use Norton's again and consider myself lucky for finding a firm that still cares about their work. Not a cheap price overal but the product, warranty, and installation are top quality.
Description of Work: Ralph (the owner) met with us and provided the bid. He was very helpful, answered my questions fully, and even called the manafacturer to find out some very specific details. I am an engineer that has overseen 10's of millions in construction and I suppose I can be picky. They installed a total of 14 Anderson Renewal windows in my house.

The salesman that came out to show us the product and give us a price was the owner of the company. He did a great job explaining the product. The installers showed up on time and did a good job. I was a little disappointed in the interior trim. They did butt joints instead of a miter joint. We bought the windows with pine trim on the inside. The windows came unfinished. The windows were then finished after installation. The painter who stained and finished the trim did a fantastic job. We want the windows to match the Red Gumwood trim in our 1918 bungalow. The painter came out ahead of time to see what we wanted. He matched the color perfectly. The installers and the painters used lots of drop cloths and cleaned up after themselves. We wanted to get the windows done before the end of the year for the tax rebate. Norton's was great to work with and while they were not cheap I feel we got a great product in a very timly manner. We checked with Pella but their customer service was pretty poor.

I set up an appointment for an estimate at the home show. When Ralph came in he took off his shoes which I appreciated. We talked for a bit and then he measured my roof. When he came back in he asked when my husband was available, but I let him know that it didn't matter because I take care of these things. Then he wanted to set an appointment for a later date to go over his findings and give me the estimate. He wouldn't call me or email them to me, not go over them with me at the moment because "he didn't have time." This surprised me since it was the first time this has happened to me with other work we have had done this year. Because I wouldn't set another appointment he wouldn't give me a quote and left.

Response from Renewal by Andersen of Utah
As reported by this member, I met with her briefly. I spent approximately an hour doing a detailed analysis of her roof. Her current roof has a 25 year shingle and is shot after only 16 years. The member only got 64 percent of the roof’s design life. I took extensive pictures showing severe venting problems, rain gutter problems, and some decking issues. If new shingles are put up without correcting the other problems, the new roof may not even last as long as this one did. Our process is to do the analysis on the first appointment. Then we come out a second time with the pictures printed in full color (8” by 10”.) I didn’t have any pricing for her yet and the pictures needed to be printed at our office. I offered to meet with this member at a time of her choosing. She refused and just wanted the price. Contrary to the member's statement that I didn’t have enough time for her, I was willing to take all the time she needed to go over the job with her. Home remodeling is one of the top 10 scams in Utah. Thousands of people get burned by unscrupulous contractors every year. We strive for 100% customer satisfaction. We have been giving permanent solutions to homeowners in roofing, siding and windows for the past 39 years. Our Better Business Bureau rating is A+ I can’t satisfy a potential customer if they won’t give me enough time to thoroughly go over the job with them. When I get called out on a recently completed roof with problems, often the homeowner didn’t spend the time to go over the details with the contractor. We end up tearing down multiple roofs a year that were done improperly. Correcting the member's venting properly and a few other corrections, we could have given them a great roof. I cannot satisfy a customer that just wants a price on the back of a card or emailed. It is our company policy to not give out prices this way. I wish the customer success in their roofing project. Ralph Feurer, Norton’s Quality exteriors.
