Description of Work: I had one toilet with a valve that continuously ran. Called Neerings, they arrived on time, the service rep looked at three toilets and advised that two of them needed the valves replaced and it would cost about $300. While he was performing the work a neighbor, seeing the Neerings truck came over and said be careful, as they had Neerings do a job for them charging about $200 and the neighbor learned the next day that the part was available at Home Depot for $17. The work only took half an hour they said. Neerings finished my job in less than an hour, I paid them, then went on the internet and found that the two parts were available for $20 total. I called and spoke with the service manager asked for justification for the $280 labor cost. He said he would get back to me. Nothing. I called back several times and he finally said they were not going to do anything about it and was rather unpleaseant. Additionally, one of the toilets continued to run, requiring them to return not once, but twice to fix it properly. In my opinion excessive pricing and less than satisfactory service.

Description of Work: We were preparing our water source for our garden for the summer and found it had a crack in the pipe. We wanted to put a drain at the bottom of the standing pipe to drain it better when we turn the water off for the winter. We cut the pipe off where we wanted to put hte new valve, got the parts to make the repair - a "T" with a plug that could be removed, but found that our pipe threader didn't fit the pipe. I called Neering Plumbing to thread the pipes. When he gave me the estimate for the work I was foolish and had him go ahead because we needed to be able to turn our water back on to the house. After the work was done, I realized how foolish I had been in giving the go-ahead because we could have figured something out to fix the pipe - like go to Home Depot and rent a pipe threader, but was one available. My husband is 80 and things are much harder for him to do. To make a long story short, we were charged $620 for the plumber to do the rethreading of the pipe. I sent a picture to the manager and asked if perhaps the wrong code had been applied to the billing and he said no, that is what it cost. I would never recommend Neering to anyone ever again. If that is what it cost to rethread the pipe, what would it cost to do something more serious? Scary thought!

Neerings arrived on time and they are very polite. The expert was very patient and quickly went to work. I gave low marks on professionalism because in reading the amps of the combustion inducer, he held the meter close to the motor that seemed to increase the amps reading and then told me that's a sign of the inducer going bad. Could be his lack of experience. The expert from the other company that I went with explained that the ohm meter should be held further away from the motor to get an accurate amp reading. The noise alone of the inducer was a failure sign that he pointed out. Neerings looked up the price for the part that includes service and it was over $1242. Said they would clean and service the furnace too. Seemed high but I told him to order the part. Checked around and found parts for under $300. Next day, I called a couple of service companies that I found on Angie's List. One had the parts in stock and was ready to come that afternoon (Tue, 12/16/2009). They came, their diagnosis matched Neerings but their bill was only $429 - a difference of $813. I called Neerings and spoke with their service manager. I explained that their quote was too high and offered to pay $700 instead of over $1200. Without hesitation, he said no. I said to cancel the service and not to order the part if they already had. He said something about charging me for their visit and diagnosis - around $85. Sounds fair to me. Then he said he would also bill me for overnighting the parts but didn't have the price, which doesn't sound fair or reasonable to me. He mentioned that shipping for parts on another deal was around $700. I felt that he was frustrated with me and was trying to intimidate or scare me. I offered a couple of times to send a check for $100 to close the deal. He would not commit and said he would have to find out what the shipping cost for the parts were and call me back. He said he would call me back that day with details. I never heard from him.
Description of Work: They came and diagnosed furnace problems not heating like it used to but after learning what the fee would be to fix it, I shopped around and found better pricing. Diagnosis of the problem was the same as Neerings from another company.

In June of 2008, my water line developed a leak somewhere between the street meter and the exterior foundation of my home. The flow of water was considerable, and I felt compelled to get it fixed as soon as possible. I hired Neerings because their website was appealing and they promised to arrive immediately. They arrived as promised -- a clean-shaven crew of 3 in neatly pressed uniforms -- and the "foreman" told me that the problem could only be fixed by replacing the entire line for a total price of $6534. I gasped at the price, and he told me that I could get a $654 discount if I signed on for a one year "Service Agreement" for the price of $274. The water leak was increasing by the hour, and I felt I didn't have any time to get a second bid. I signed the papers. The crew worked diligently, the water line was promptly replaced, and I paid the bill in full. One week later, after the emergency was over, I decided to poke around on the internet and find out how much I had been burned on the price (I knew I had probably been overcharged). The reviews I read from various sources made me sick. The vast majority of customers who had used Neerings reported outrageous overcharging. This prompted me to call other plumbing companies and get a ballpark figure of what my job should have cost, and I got figures that ranged from $2400 - $4000. I have no idea how this company stays in business--it must rely on victims who are not internet savvy or who are experiencing a major emergency that prevents them from thinking clearly (like me). The story isn't over. About two months after the repair, I noticed that my water bills were running consistently higher (more water used) than a year before. I reasoned that I must be watering my lawn more, and thought nothing more about it until I turned off my sprinklers in the fall, and discovered that my water bill was still reflecting unusually high consumption. In February of this year (2009) a water company employee came to my door and informed me that they suspected I had A LEAK BETWEEN THE WATER MAIN AND MY HOUSE. Sick with dismay, I reviewed my bill from Neerings and read their warranty, which stated: "Workmanship is warranted for 90 days unless otherwise specified." Luckily, I have a friend who informed me that Utah law requires contractors to stand behind their work for a full year. In fairness to Neerings, they did promptly show up and (hopefully) fix the problem -- a leak adjacent to the water meter -- without arguing or attempting to charge for the service, and the workmen they sent to do the job were personable and efficient. That being said, I think $6534 speaks for itself. (I haven't taken advantage of the "Service Agreement" I signed -- I'll forfeit the $274 and hire another company, thanks.)

The plumber was on time and did a good job. All items were taken care of. I had purchased a replacement fixture for the kitchen faucet and it turned out that the original could be rebuilt or the new one installed, for a bout the same cost either way. I elected to install the new faucet. I was surprised to find that the original went home with the plumber, since it remains my property right? A new shut off was installed and a new toilet tank mechanism (brass not plastic). He cleaned up and was very professional. The problem came when he presented a bill for $600 for this work (about 90 minutes).
Description of Work: We asked for help with a leaky kitchen faucet (which was replaced in the end), a malfunctioning shut off to the kitchen faucet, and a running toilet.

They came and dug up my water line. They replaced the line with a new copper water line. They did an excellent job. They are very well organized. They came out the same day as I called. They stuck to the bid that they gave me, even though they got more than they bargained for.
Description of Work: They replaced the main water line to my house for me. They also put in a new stop and waste valve, a pressure regulating valve.

To replace a kitchen faucet, we called Neerings on advice of a neighbor who had liked their work. The arrived and quoted $600 (excluding the actual cost of the faucet). I can't imagine how long they thought it would take. Maybe they feel their work is worth $600 per hour. We showed them the door. ADDENDUM: The service name was my mother-in-laws who lives at the home. When we gave the name, they confirmed they had indeed been there.

WE NEED TO REQUEST MORE INFORMATION. I HAVE LOOKED THROUGH OUR ENTIRE CUSTOMER BASE AND WE DON'T HAVE A CUSTOMER OF THIS NAME LISTED IN THE FILE. I HAVE ALSO CHECKED AND WE HAVE NOT SERVICED ANYONE WITH THE NAME OF THE MEMBER THAT I CAN FIND WHERE WE HAVE GIVEN A COST TO INSTALL A NEW FAUCET. FINALLY, WE DO WORK ON A PER JOB BASIS, AND WE DON'T HAVE A SINGLE FAUCET REPLACEMENT JOB WITH A $600 LABOR COST. WE WOULD BE HAPPY TO REVIEW THIS REPORT FURTHER BUT WE WOULD NEED MORE INFORMATION TO GET TO THE ACTUAL JOB ON OUR SIDE. WE ARE EXTREMELY CONCERNED WHEN A CUSTOMER HAS ANY ISSUE AND ARE EAGER TO RESPOND, BUT IN THIS INSTANCE WE ARE UNABLE TO RESPOND FURTHER. IF YOU CAN HELP US FIND MORE INFORMATION, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT US BY PHONE OR EMAIL INFO@NEERINGSPLUMBING.COM.

Poorly. Entered my basement to look at requested job and could see I had a brand new water softener, thus the need for a pressure relief valve. Try to talk about purchasing water osmosis system and denigrate my water softener.
Description of Work: I was requesting a bid for a pressure relief valve. I had received one for $150 and one for $250 which was the highest. Neerings bid was for $850!!!!. The project took 30 min and included a top quality valve. I called the next day to inquire as to why Neerings charged so much more, even though they had the part with them on the truck. I asked to speak to the technician that gave the bid. I asked to be called back. What a surprise, I was never called back. I have told everyone this story.

On time, polite, extremely overpriced.
Description of Work: We had Neerings come out to estimate replacing heating and A/C for a 950 square foot condo we had just purchased (we needed to move the location of the furnace so venting would need to be moved as well). They did arrive on time and were polite, but other than that it was a joke. They looked around and told us the most cost-effective way to do the job was to install a boiler system. I about died when they handed me the estimate for $19,800- that's right, almost $20,000. This was the only way they would consider revamping the heating & A/C. We have since received several other bids from reputable contractors for 1/4 to 1/5 of the cost Neerings quoted.

The repairman arrived quickly. That is where the positive experience ended. He charged $85 just to show up, then an additional $215 to diagnose a blown fuse and replace it (which we have since learned costs about $3). My wife was so frustrated with him she asked how much it would cost for him to get off our property. Mountain West HVAC came over after this experience (they were the ones that originally installed the air conditioner, but were unable to come over earlier in the day - which is why I called Neerings). He did the same diagnostic test and realized the outside of the air conditioner was dirty. He took a hose and washed it off and the air conditioner runs great to this day (a year-and-a-half later). He felt so bad that I had called Neerings he wouldn't even charge me for coming over. Mike Dixon, at Neerings, agreed that my repairman's diagnosis was so bad that he would refund half the repair fee ($100). It took over 30 calls to finally get the check.
Description of Work: Our air conditioner went out when the weather was in the 90's. They responded very quickly. The repairman quickly ascertained that the fuse had gone out. He felt that there was a leak in a coolant hose somewhere and suggested he add a die to the coolant for an additional $200 then come back in a week and do a black-light diagnostic for another $500 (keep in mind this was after the initial $300 charge for the discovery of the blown fuse and replacement). Then from there a repair could finally be made where the assumed leak was.

Response from Neerings Plumbing & Heating Inc
WE HAVE LEARNED FROM EXPERIENCE THAT FUSES, WHICH ARE SAFETY DEVICES, USUALLY FAIL BECAUSE SOMETHING ELSE WAS WRONG WITH A UNIT. IN THIS CASE WE PROPOSED TO NOT ONLY REPLACE THE FUSES BUT TO ADJUST THE REFRIGERANT LEVEL AND CHARGE THE UNIT PROPERLY. SINCE THERE WAS ANOTHER COMPANY THAT RESPONDED TO THE JOB WE ARE CERTAIN THAT OUR WORK WAS CORRECT BECAUSE THEY SAID NOTHING ABOUT THE CHARGE BEING WRONG. THIS CUSTOMER WANTED US TO DO THE WORK BECAUSE THEY WERE UNCERTAIN ABOUT THE RESPONSE OF THE ORIGINAL COMPANY THAT INSTALLED THE UNIT. WE TOLD THEM THE ENTIRE COST OF THE JOB BEFORE WE BEGAN, THEY AUTHORIZED THE WORK AND AFTER THE WORK WAS COMPLETED THE SIGNED THEY WERE SATISFIED WITH THE WORK. AS FOR REFUNDING MONEY BECAUSE WE DID A POOR JOB, THIS IS JUST PLAIN NONSENSE. WE REFUNDED THE MONEY BECAUSE THE CUSTOMER REQUESTED IT, AND FOR THE SECOND TIME THEY INDICATED THEY WOULD BE SATISFIED WITH THE JOB IF THEY RECEIVED A REFUND. FROM OUR STAND POINT THAT IS TWICE THEY SAID THEY WERE SATISFIED BUT THEY STILL INDICATE THEY GIVE OUR COMPANY AN F RATING. SOMETIMES TRYING TO DO THE RIGHT THING FOR A CUSTOMER CAN BE REALLY FRUSTRATING.

What a complete rip off. They wouldn't return my calls when they knew I was questioning their bill. When I asked if they added a 20% profit fee ($100 in this case) AND an additional 20% 'operational overhead'' fee(another $108.34 on my bill) to every bill, they wouldn't discuss the matter. The bottom line: We paid $586.80 for a 60 minute installation of a $148.60 part. The company overcharged for their services. Every time I hear an advertisement for this company on the radio, I cringe to think of how deceptive and dishonest they were with us.
Description of Work: I wasn't available and asked a neighbor to come over while our furnace was fixed. I signed a ''blank'' check, assuming I was dealing with a reputable company. After diagnosing the problem, my neighbor was informed that the ''part'' to fix the furnace was $500.00 & the diagnostic fee was $86.80, for a total cost of $586.80. They told him ''energy efficient'' parts were very expensive. When I told my brother (the contractor who built our house) that the part cost $500, he said, "there is not a part on the furnace that costs $500.'' I called Neerings and asked for an explanation. After trying to get a response from the company for two days, I was finally given the following breakdown from Mike Dixon, who handles complaints for the company: Replacement of module, wiring & end connectors: $148.60) Diagnostic fee: $86.80 Direct Labor: $143.10 operational Overhead (never heard of this before): $108.34 Added 20% profit fee of $100.00!!
