Description of Work: I love my kitchen that Ivy League Builders remodeled for us about 16 years ago. So when some of the cabinet hinges went bad, and the countertop cracked, I called to get an estimate on the cost of kitchen repairs as well as updating two bathrooms. While the owner was at my home to gather information for the estimate, he kindly tightened some loose hinges, and took with him two cabinet doors that had broken free and detached from their cabinet. He said he would add an additional hinge to each, then return and re-hang them. I was pleased at this point. The estimate I received from him by email was a bit more than we planned to spend, so I replied with a request to rework the plan with different materials or other options to bring the price down a bit. No response. So I've emailed and called multiple times with still no response. I always get the owner's voice mail, and leave a message at the only phone number I can find for the company. My cabinet doors are still missing. It's been more than two years. The kitchen just isn't the same with open shelves in place of my solid-maple cabinet doors.

All Ivy League crews are experienced in what they do, show up on time, are courteous and helpful, often offering to do extra jobs that popped up. They are attentive to detail and willing to respond to any request I made. They are a professional team and work well together. The quality of their work is excellent. Terry provided the original estimate and was able to cut costs by repainting some of the woodwork rather than replacing it. Although his estimate was not the lowest, his positive attitude about his company's ability to accomplish what I wanted done won my confidence. For example, another contractor said that he didn't think one of my ideas for a storage problem in a pantry was do-able. Terry saw no problem with it and in fact improved on the idea. He also saw a better way of dealing with enlarging a door than I had come up with. He made things happen the week before work was scheduled to begin so that the door could be widened in time for a refrigerator to be moved through it, facilitating an much easier removal by the guys who had to take it away. For me this was "Stress-free decorating," as advertised. The estimate was quite reasonable. Work began as scheduled on Oct. 19 and was complete Nov. 4. I am delighted with the finished product. There were a few times when I thought more drop cloths and masking could have been used, but there were no major messes and any stray paint, plaster or sawdust disappeared fairly quickly. I will definitely call them again the next time I need to renovate or build.
Description of Work: Renovated kitchen, providing new floor, 1X4 oak baseboard, pull-out shelves, tiled backsplash, painted cabinets and walls, increased size of a doorway.

I was very impressed with the professionalism of Terry Perkins. He included our wishes in every aspect of the design of the kitchen and the cabinets. I now have at least 5 times the usable storage space, where before I had a corner pantry where everything got lost in the back corner abyss. Our kitchen and floors were all completed by 'seasoned' veterans, 2 of whom are 2nd generation builders (their father's also worked for Ivy League their entire careers). I was amazed by the design ideas and how when the cabinets were installed (over the hardwood floors, of course) they were so serviceable and BEAUTIFUL! We have never had hardwood floors and we LOVE them. I want them in my whole house. Terry was quick to tell us how to care for the hardwood floors and brought our hardwood out a month early to 'season' the hardwood to the humidity in our home before laying the floors. Terry's estimate was not a penny above the final cost of the remodel, but they built several items not included on the original plans: He built a valance to match our cupboards, and shelves in a cabinet on the backside of our island so we wouldn't lose any storage space. He went with us to pick out our granite and tile and I am so impressed by the quality of the granite and the tile. Again Terry was very forthcoming at teaching us about the care of both the granite and tile. Terry's original estimate of the time they would need to complete our remodel was 6-8 weeks and they completed the kitchen and floors in less than six weeks. I would recommend Ivy League Builders, LLC and Mr. Terry Perkins highly to any of my family, friends, or acquaintances. Please view my before and after pictures.
Description of Work: Completely remodeled my "one butt" kitchen into a stunning gourmet kitchen with beautiful handmade kitchen cabinets. They also installed hardwood flooring in my living room area and whole kitchen (even under cabinets)

Ivy League Builders usually show up at the home shows and my girl friend used them first and gave them rave reviews. They are really nice people, they do the work, and it looks good. But the finish on the cabinets did not hold up for more than 2 or 3 years for my girl friend or for me. She has had hers refinished and the guy who refinished them said they just did not use enough layers of coating. I like their friendliness, but I did not like the long term durability of the cabinet finish. Some of their painting could have been better, but in general they did a good job on everything else. I think their prices were a little high. When I did the remodel they were good at responding, but now I can't get them to get back to me.
Description of Work: I used Ivy League Builders to remodel my kitchen as well as some other kitchen items. They are predominately cabinet builders, but they do remodeling as well.

He returned the cabinets on 10-20-06, and immediately placed them in the corners of my dining room, they smelled of fresh paint. I asked him if he used hardwood, and he stated " that he used birch". That night my husband examined the cabinets only to find out that Mr. Perkins did not use hardwood, he used painted fiberboard. My handyman wanted to use fiberboard on the cabinets, but I told him no, as that would ruin the antique cabinets. The workmanship is so inferior on both cabinets, the backs do not meet, nothing was beveled, one cabinet has a large gouge in the fiberboard, some nails were shot into the wood and caught only a portion of the shelves or back. On one cabinet the side piece was removed, shortend and sanded, causing another color to show through, so now the side pieces don't match. The cheap materials, and poor craftmanship has ruined the integrity of our antique cabinets. Not only did he ruin our cabinets, but charged us double the amount he originally quoted. Why would I need a cabinetmaker to put fiberboard on antique cabinets, at a cost of $500.00, when the handyman could have done the same job for $100.00 My husband placed many calls to Mr. Perkins, when he finally called us back he stated that he wanted to resolve the situation". We were willing to come to a desired resolution, but he never responded to our many phone calls to take him up on his offer. We told him that we filed a complaint on 02-13-07 with the BBB of Utah. We never had a consumer's desired resolution with Mr Perkins, and the BBB drops complaints after three years. So my complaint doesn't even show as an unresolved report. All he had to do was wait three years and one more report was dropped off the BBB site. Needless to say, we never signed the contract for future work. Why would a company want to lose a $42,000.00 job, and not take&;care of their mistake. The antique corner cabinets (which we love) are currently in our basement, and we had to purchase a new cabinet for our dining room. We would have liked Mr. Perkins to have a reputable cabinetmakerr of our choosing, restore what he destroyed. As of today (5-17-12) the Utah BBB Business Review gives Ivy League Builders, Inc. an F rating. We would NEVER use this company again. We would never recommend this company!
Description of Work: Mr. Perkins agreed to build harwood beveled backs on two antique corner cabinets, and shore up the shelves which had started to sag. This was to be done at a cost of about $125.00 each. This was verbal, and I wrote down the price and information we discussed. Mr. Perkins was going to remodel our kitchen, and build new bookcases in our familyroom for approximately $42,000.00, all of which was spelled out in a contract. We didn't think a contract was necessary for the corner cabinets, as it was such a small amount. I told him that I wanted a cabinetmaker to build the backs on the cabinets, as they were antiques. He brought his cabinetmaker to our house to look at the cabinets, they decided that it could be done, and took the cabinets to his shop (10-09-06).
Met Terry at a home improvement show. He assured us he could do the job as we described. Came out and looked at our home, gave us an estimate, and told us it could be done before the holidays. No way. Delays in ordering a receiving the hardwoods, major mistakes on the cabinets, even built the island the wrong size and had to rebuild. The cabinets was made of cherry wood and the stain has never been right despite Terry assuring us it would be fixed. It looks as though it has water damage with the stain coming off the edges. Difficult to describe, and never has been remedied. 20,000 dollar reface job that looks worse!e than the original oak the builder installed! The contractor he used to install the flooring was rarely on the job to supervise. The men who installed it used a large nail gun and it left imprints in our Brazilian cherry hardwoods that looked like polka dots. This was pre finished hardwood and not a great candidate for sanding out the divots they created. Terry's idea was to put on a top coat to cover.. Didn't work. Still have divots and Terry refused to reinstall new boards. We also had a new entry floor installed in travertine stone, and it is essential the floor be level. NOT just walking on it cracks the tiles...Never have we spent soo much money and been so disappointed. NEVER again.
Description of Work: Hired Ivy League Builders in Nov. 2006 to reface kitchen cabinetry and install hardwood and tile flooring in kitchen, dining room, den,and formal living room.

I used them three times. The first time the man had a partner and they did a really good job. The second time he bought his partner out, who was an engineer and the job wasn't too good. Then, this last time he did a very poor job. I don't know if they still are in business but it is a person someone should avoid at all cost. The first time he came in he gave me a written estimate, they belonged to the Better Business Bureau and he was recommended by this online service that prescreens contractors. He did a good job at that time but I think that was due to his partner who was the engineer. I don't think that was up to Terry. The price seemed to be about average. I did get two bids and they were very close. The quality of service was very poor. I looked them up on the Better Business Bureau and they gave them a D minus. They said there was a complaint that they wouldn't correct some problem. These grades are based on the last job they did for me, I absolutely will not use them again in the future.

Horrible!!
Description of Work: Dont use this company!!. Terry Pearson was hired to remodel my kitchen. Very quick to remove the existing kitchen then nothing. His guys showed up 2 hours a day (bad because it took them 1/2 to unload equipment and 1/2 hour to load it back up) which really means they worked a total of 1 hour per day. It took them 7 months to finish the job. I've had the kitchen for two years now and the finish is comming off the cabinets and they look horrible. That was alot of money to spend for crap!

We first came in contact with Terry at a home remodeling show. Terry is very knowledgeable and gave us some great ideas that we could do in our kitchen. We appreciate his knowledge and experience. He was on time for every appointment we had with him. He was very good at keeping us informed about what was going on, what was the next step, and who would be doing the next step. We put in a new tile floor in our entry way, kitchen and dining area. Terry built all new cabinets and helped us pick out granite for the counter tops. His crew are all very professional and easy to work with. We had no concerns about any of them being in our home and working whether we were there or not. When any concerns came up, they were handled or corrected in a professional manner and in a way to make us happy. The work was done in the budget allowed and was completed on time. The kitchecn is beautiful. We couldn't be more pleased. We would recommend Ivy League Builders to anyone.

I hired Ivy League Builders to redo 2 of my bathrooms, vanities, floors, tub tile, granite, etc.The process started quickly and ahead of schedule. As work progressed things got worse. One vanity drawers was made to the wrong size, making the installation of the faucets hard to install, inside of vanity needed to be cut up to make room for the faucets. This should have been corrected and was not. tile work was better than I could do but not what I would expect from a professional. Grout color came out all different shades. Some tiles raised higher than the others. They chipped both of the bath tubs. One tub was repaired and is hardly noticeable. They tried to repair the hole in the second tub 3 times. I was told they were would send out someone to refinish not replace. Have never heard back.I also had to hire my own plumber to install the faucets in the sink. To try and get a hold of any one once the money was paid was near impossible. I sent emails to the the owner, registered letters, and left voice mails constantly. This was very irritating to be ignored. I thought a company advertising the were members of the BBB were ok. Later I checked, could not find were they were not accredited with the BBB of Utah but found negative feed back on the site. Last conversation I had was with the quality control person on 7/17/2010.This company did not take pride in their work. I would not recomend this company to other people

Terry Perkins was wonderful to work with and his company did very good work. He was responsive and completely trustworthy. He kept us informed at each stage and was always available to answer my questions. At the beginning of the project, he listened to what we wanted and made some very good suggestions to reconfigure our main kitchen and make it more open without losing too much cabinet space. His bid was very competitive and we have beautiful cherry cabinets. He scheduled things so the basement kitchen would be complete before he started upstairs; we were never without a kitchen. He resolved problems when they came up without fanfare or extra cost. For example, we got a leak in the basement when it rained and he replaced the baseboards and repaired a wall. When our front door handle broke, he installed a new one that he hadn't used from a previous job. He even built a microwave cart to save counter space in the basement. During the work, we wanted a few things added and he did the extra work at a very reasonable cost.
Description of Work: Built a full kitchen downstairs and remodeled our kitchen on the main floor (replaced cabinets and countertops and refinished a wood floor.
