The fellow coming out to do my estimate was prompt and professional.
Description of Work: I am really disappointed in this company. They spend for ads, and they do all sorts of email "who-hoo" to make themselves look very impressive. The fellow coming out to do my estimate was prompt and professional. I explained to him that I had dozens of remodel or drywall contractors come look at the job, but that none responded with an estimate. He acted all aghast that someone would be that way in this economy. Well, he was decent enough to tell me to blow off via email unlike the others that just didn't respond. Basically my job was too small for him and he didn't want to spend a couple of days earning my business. What he doesn't think about by acting this way is that I will NEVER consider using his business and that my WORD OF MOUTH will tell anyone that will listen what I think of his business. No job should ever be too small for someone. A good small job leads into bigger jobs which this could have. I have several HUGE projects coming up both personally and commercially. My next commercial project was adding several offices to the building, as well as a break area, and changing the reception area. Mark, you messed up. Fine Remodel is at the bottom of my referral and consideration list!

Response from Fine Remodel and Construction
In response to a negative review from (Member name removed): My name is Mark Blankman and not only am I the President of Fine Remodel, I was the person who made the initial appointment and met with (Member name removed). I have read (Member name removed) review and I do not take exception with the facts stated by (member name removed) as follows; we did meet with him and we appreciate his kind words saying we are prompt and professional. We did send him several emails prior to the appointment containing a lot of information to help our prospects get to know us and to educate them on our process. We did discuss the project where (Member name removed) mentioned that “dozens of drywall or remodeling contractors had looked at the project and never bothered to return a call or actually turn him down.” To clarify I was not aghast about the dozens of other contractors not responding because of the economy, but rather surprised at the unprofessional-ism they showed in not responding at all. I also explained that it is our company policy to not do this size of project, but would get back to him within one day. After some consideration, it was decided to turn down the project. The thought is that this would be most beneficial to his interest as well as ours (see email below). The sooner we are out of the picture the sooner he can make a decision on another contractor. Of the review, I find the most troubling part is the strong stance that “no job should ever be too small for someone”. I once felt that way but as my company matured and we focused on our primary clientele the natural path led us to larger projects with a high degree of complexity, quality, and skills required. To handle large complex jobs we use a project manager system to oversee every little detail and our dedicated project managers communicate with our clients daily- hourly if needed to ensure their dreams are becoming reality. We have a referral/repeat record of 86% and this is a direct result of our total customer satisfaction system. Please look into the link: http://www.guildquality.com/cr/Fine-Remodel/NMI60252115412R/ this is a customer review site where our customers fill out questionnaires and reviews after each of our projects are done. You will see how the wonderful clients we work with love us and that is why we have thrived in this economy. All of this service does come at a cost and on a $100K-$1M project it is necessary and cost effective, on a $3,000 job we are very expensive. I have found conversely to (Member name removed) stating this was to be a proving ground job to much larger projects to come, a contractor who could handle this size project would do very poor at “Huge” projects as the organization, communication and supervision on said huge projects are built up by experience on large projects. I am not sure if (Member name removed) searched out the dozens of contractor who ignored him and wrote negative reviews for them as well, but I can’t help but feel we were targeted by (Member name removed) and given our online presence and reputation he felt he could exact some pain from the industry itself and our good name was the vehicle to do so. I wish the entire experience was different for Mr. but unfortunately “Contractors” get lumped together rather than looking at Professional Contractors different than fly by night Handymen types. I give the same advice to all who will listen. If you are looking for a contractor ask some questions like: is he licensed, does the company carry any insurance, just the minimum or enough to actually cover possible losses. Are the crews clean, professional, and do they follow all applicable laws both local and federal. How does he communicate? Is he involved in the community and professional associations? Maybe most importantly, what is his reputation, does his company name change a lot because he is darting legal issues? Everybody thinks it comes down to price but the facts are we all buy our material at about the same price, we pay about the same for labor so if there is a large difference then the low guy missed something on the bid and you will be change ordered or shorted on quality. I am sorry we have upset (Member name removed), our goal is to be honest and upfront and if it is not a good fit between both parties then the project will not be successful. In closing we are certainly sorry for the experience (Member name removed) had but we feel we could not have handled it more professionally. Below is the email we sent to (Member name removed). We believe we made the right choice and I urge all those who look into our company to contact us directly and discuss how we can make their dreams come true. - Sincerely Mark Blankman, President Fine Remodel LLC Email Sent: Good Morning (Member name removed), Thank you for contacting us here at Fine Remodel. It was a pleasure to meet you yesterday. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to come see your classroom and inform you about the great advantages of remodeling. Typically, we do projects that entail design/build of extensive remodeling and additions, as well as custom homes and offices. I believe it would be beneficial for you to use another contractor as we usually don’t try to bid against other companies. Our focus is on helping our clients get the best value, not necessarily the lowest price. As we learn priorities, our recommendations regarding trade professionals, materials, and methods help our clients and their designers realize the highest satisfaction for their budget. We wish you the very best with your remodeling project, and thank you for contacting Fine Remodel. Kindest Regards
