Dan build my kitchen cabinets, but when I contacted him for a second project (I am remodeling my bathrooms and building a new home in Parleys Canyon), he said he has never worked for me or helped Caliber Construction in ANY projects. I have all the paper work and receipts, his cellphone number was still in my contacts. He was very professional, punctual and responsive, but given the situation I wouldn't hire him again.
Description of Work: kitchen cabinets-- Apparently Dan didn't do my kitchen (according to him).

We bought a new house that did not have adequate kitchen cabinet space. Dan set up a time to look at what we wanted to do and give us a bid. The thing I appreciated the most about working with Dan apart from the quality of his work, was Dan's honesty. He has no interest in wasting either his or your time. Dan recommended making some changes to the granite counter top which we hadn't considered. He also suggested a freestanding hutch as opposed to built in cabinets, which made sense for what we wanted to do. We decided to have Dan make us the hutch, a window seat, and a bookshelf all out of walnut. There were some delays in production, but again Dan was honest and explained the situation. In all the work took about a month. The person Dan sub-contracted the granite counter top work out to did an amazing job. You would never know there were changes made to the granite. In the end we got three exceptional pieces handcrafted woodwork. The walnut they used is beautiful, and the quality of the work is outstanding. The pieces they created have become my favorite part of our house. Our guests always comment how beautiful the work is as well. I will use DC for all of my work in the future.

Is the price of a BMW to high or are some people just wanting something for nothing. Bad review for not hearing what you want to hear. Childish in a way. We are very busy at the moment and can't jump at a small job pursued by a person that wants ikea prices for high quality work. And this individual kept asking for over the phone pricing. I usually don't do that, but they were persistent. I guess I apologize for doing nothing and disappointing

I love the beautiful walnut book cases Dan produced. They are very high quality and, frankly, you can't buy quality furniture like this, particularly if you need it to custom fit specific spaces. He is not a low price craftsman. I paid a top end price for a top end product. If I have a complaint it is that he works on his own schedule and took quite a while to get the pieces delivered. He has in his contract that all products will be delivered in and quot;no more than 56 daysand quot; from signing the contract. I found waiting almost two months for the book cases to be built and delivered a long time. But once I got them, I was delighted.
Description of Work: Measured the hallway into which I wanted 3 bookcases built. Built 3 custom-made walnut book cases all 6 foot tall (a thin one only 6" deep and 28" wide, a custom-fit corner book case 30" wide along the front, and a 42" wide one). He made the shelf heights vary in each one to my specifications.

I called to have a quote for custom cabinets in a basement kitchen. Dan was extremely easy to work with very punctual. I ended up making a couple changes to the original kitchen plans and he was very receptive and made the changes I wanted in a very timely fashion. I am extremly satisfied with how they turned out and his attention to detail. I would defenitaly recommend him to anyone.

He failed to show up at our scheduled appointment date. We confirmed several times through email on a time and date, as well as contact through the website and telephone. I even flew all the way out here from Denver to make the appointment, and now he is not responding to any of my messages. When I call, it just goes straight to his voicemail. He has not returned any of my calls or emails. I am now left stranded with nobody to do the job, and I have an appliance on order.

Im at a loss with the appointment. We had talked at the end of last month about looking at this job, but I had explained that I was working out of town and that I wasn't even sure of this was a job id do. We were supposed to touch base on the 17th. My already going job went longer and I was unable to get back to her. I'm sorry that she is disappointed and surprised no one else had jumped at this. I explained to her weeks ago when we talked that having already ordered appliances was premature on her part. I had givin no guarantee on doing or scheduling anything. I never said to fly anywhere for anything. I'm sympathetic to her situation and am sorry she is disappointed, but feel these are all issues brought on by herself.

We loved working with Dan. He is direct and blunt which I love. We are absolutely in love with our cabinets. Everyone that has seen them loves them. High end and very classy. I would absolutely recommend him....in fact....I already have. We will call Dan again when we are ready for the next phase of our remodel.

Response from DC Cabinet Co
It seemed like a great job. They potential clients (husband and wife) just extremely different ideas about what they wanted to do. The scope of work started inside and continued to the exterior. They had extreme different views on what they were wanting to spend and exactly what remodeling they wanted done. I suggested an architect to help them both figure what they would both be ok with. The work would have had walls moved and a complete face lift of the exterior. I felt some professional input would have helped and been warranted in the event structural engineering would have been needed. 150000 was not the budget I was told.

It went perfectly!! I could not be happier :) My husband and I are so happy we found Dan on Angie's List! We have been looking for someone who could make us custom cabinets for our two bathrooms that needed remodeling/updating. Dan was the answer to my prayers- not kidding. He was very professional, and on top of things from the get go. He came out to our house to take a look at what we needed to get done, if he was ever going to run 10 minutes late, he always called me and gave me a heads up. During our first meeting, he gave us all the pros, cons of different types of wood, and design, as well as his pricing and delivery time. This was a busy summer for us, as we got our roof redone, completely remodeled the kids' bathroom, and part of our bathroom, as well as some stucco work. Among all the contractors we dealt with, Dan was the best. He always told us things like it is and stuck to his timeline, and specially the quality of work. His cabinets turned out so pretty, and very high quality. All three vanities are made out of walnut, and are very sturdy as well as beautiful looking! He also had his fabricator install the granite tops, and a plumber who came and fixed a small plumbing issue under very short notice. We really appreciated Dan's excellent level of customer service not only at the front end, but that he continued to provide support even after he did the installation. We are planning on redoing our basement in a few years, and when we do, I know who we are calling for all our cabinetry needs. In the mean time, if we need any carpentry work needed, I have him on speed dial. So we had two five foot and one four foot walnut cabinet built for $4,800. Dan isn't cheap (and he will tell you that the first day he speaks to you), but his work is so worth it! I am recommending him to friends and anybody who asks :)

I called Dan for a bid, and he was very prompt and took all the time necessary to discuss what I was looking for in a new kitchen and also to offer some ideas of his own, without being pushy. His bid was for kitchen cabinets and countertops and also for a new vanity for my master bathroom with countertop. It was competitive with the other two bids I received. I went with Dan's bid because I felt he was a straight shooter, trustworthy, he was friendly and receptive to my ideas, and he had excellent reviews on Angie's List (now I know why!). Dan was very flexible and quick to respond when I needed to contact him. He also referred me to some outstanding resources for tile, plumbing, electrical, tear-out and flooring. Each one of them I will use again if the need arises. All were skilled, trustworthy, professional, friendly and fairly priced. I cannot express enough positive feedback about Dan. He is very busy, but doesn't let his customers end up on the back- burner. His work is beautiful! My cabinets are solid, well put together, sturdy and top-notch! Dan prides himself on details and spent a great deal of time hanging the doors, making sure they were straight...and did the same with the cabinet hardware. If you want a contractor who listens, Dan is your man. He wants you to be completely happy with your cabinet installation, and will work with you until you are completely satisfied. He also is interested in quality, and will not cheapen down materials to save a buck if he doesn't believe it's the right thing to do. He takes pride in his work and it shows. Remodeling a kitchen is tough, but it is so much easier if you choose the right contractor. I chose the right one when I went with DC Cabinets. If the ratings above offered A+, I would have selected them. I am thrilled with my new kitchen! Thanks Dan!!

First off, Dan is probably one of the most interesting people I've ever met. His views and ways may almost come across harsh at first. Later I realized it was just that up front, forward, honesty that we all as consumers are begging for. He answered the phone and responded to me with, and quot;if your really serious about now, ill be right over. But if this is a shopping mission, Id like to schedule when its convenient for both of usand quot; . I had to admit that I appreciated his honesty right out of the gate. He came over and spent 3 plus hours with us going over everything we wanted. He always asked what we wanted and never made us feel stupid. He only gave his input if we asked. I liked that. After a mountain of information, he got the bid to us in 2 days! amazing! There are bids from other contractors on this list we still haven't got back yet? His contract is the best! payment schedule, time lines, clear on product and work preformed, it covers everything. To make a long story as short as possible, We did a major over haul relating to all the work described above. We were without our kitchen for only 27 days total. His cabinets were 10 weeks, but the work didn't start till the cabinets were almost done. As far as time goes, I think that's incredible. Good timing, right in line with his layout in the contract. Go figure. I've had my fair share of idiot contactors. Dan told me he has learned what mistakes not to make by working with other contractors(no names mentioned). He did everything he said he'd do! answered all our annoying phone calls. Listened and worked with us on all our changes. And his people that did all the remodel work were fantastic and fun! It was a whirl wind of noise and mess, and we love! LOVE! the out come. But I'm sad to see them go and need to find something else to remodel. Maybe an addition next. This guy is great. Doesn't take his job to serious to the effect he thinks he's curing cancer. He handles business and does it with a smile. You couldn't ask for better people to work with. Hands down. P.S. He was average in cost on the remodel work but 35% higher than the lowest bid on cabinets. I'm glad I took the less traveled, higher cost road. The cost reflects the product. And the product is un matched compared to what else I had looked at. WORTH IT!
Description of Work: New-drywall, painting, hardwood floors, tile and back splash, removed two walls and installed cross beams for support. And then the Excaliber of cabinets, as far as cabinets and installation, They are really, really nice! and granite counter tops. Moved plumbing and electrical. His network of individuals are pretty amazing and great to work with. Full kitchen remodel and heavy general remodeling

The job went smoothly. He has a good network of other tradesmen for plumbing, tearing-out, drywall, counter-tops, hardwood flooring. Dan is very punctual, responsive, and professional. He planned the job to minimize losing use of the kitchen. He was also open to changes after he had designed and installed the cabinets. We love our kitchen cabinets and give DC Cabinets the highest marks for their quality and craftsmanship. I have used other cabinet builders in the past for our basement and bathroom cabinets, and DC Cabinets is by far the best cabinet makers we have used. Their cabinet boxes are rock solid and their cabinet finish is second to none. Everyone who has seen our kitchen remodel has been impressed by the quality of the finished product. Although DC Cabinets was not the cheapest of the numerous bids we received, we went with them as we were confident we would get the best value based on other reviews. In addition to being a high quality cabinet builder, DC Cabinets was easy to work with and showed a high degree of professionalism and customer courtesy. DC Cabinets is the only contractor I have ever dealt with that will do whatever it takes to make the customer satisfied with the finish product even if it meant redoing cabinet boxes and fronts. I have never received that kind of customer service from any other contractors I have dealt with in the past.

The finish on the cabinets does not look like the sample. Despite efforts to correct, final the shelf looks unfinished and smeared. Some of the handles are not straight or evenly placed. Some of the drawers do not shut evenly. 2 week job became 2 1/2 months. Granite counter tops are scratched and rough in places. Paint job in bathroom was sloppy. Some areas weren't covered. Paint splatters on tub and sink. Quality of shelves and installation poor!

Well, despite our best efforts I guess you cant please them all. I have a signed clarification on the finish approving what she had picked. And we were actually in and out in under 8 days. The return calls were my bad for doing work unrelated to the contract and tryning to be nice. I have pictures of the kitchen that Ive shown to other clients and I have actually sold similar products off those pictures. I was dealing with an alcoholic that cried alot and would refuse us entry to the property. On several occasions we were barred from work because she just didnt want us to make nosie those days, that would certainly effect the completion time. I feel we went above and beyond the call of duty with this client. I feel she left this review, after having told me she left a good one(LIE) because I told her I was unavaliable to come fix a fence for her. She was so upset that I couldnt rush right over to do it, she hung up on me. What can I say... There are impossible people to please out there.....I would refer to the reviews from my sober clients with realistic expectations.

Quality is great --the owner is just hard to get a hold of, and completion of the job didn't happen in the time frame represented. I had to stay on top of this to make sure it got finished, so I was the initiator of most of the contact. I am pretty sure this was a job he wasn't too excited about, and it was pretty clear to me that he would rather have not had to do the work.

Im actually alittle caught off guard. Yes the job was small, but I feel I was diligent in staying in touch with her in regards to my schedule. We were and are very busy and I was up front with the time and when It would be possible for me and another person to go rehang the cabinet doors. I remember quite a bit of other work going on at the same time, as well as a tenant of theirs coming up stairs and yelling at the tile people for working to loud. I want to say I initiated every call with the exception of two. I didnt sugar coat anything as of time, and never do. But the work was still A+. I would have to apologize for any misunderstanding. I feel I did what I said I would, when I said I would do it. I dont feel any job is to small. And I appreciated her business.

It was a good experience from start to finish. They are punctual, professional and knowledgeable. The vanities are gorgeous and rock solid. After having lived now with the completion of the work done by DC Cabinets for our remodel we have become increasingly pleased with the workmanship and substance of the work. The cabinet work was extraordinarily well done and it is a pleasure to use the very solidly constructed drawers and cabinets of DC Cabinets. As well the white finish DC Cabinets put on these cabinets has fully and quot;curedand quot; and is excellent. We sincerely appreciate the result even though the completion of our kitchen remodel had some difficulties. Part of these were due to our choice of a counter-top subcontractor (not one recommended by DC Cabinets). Notwithstanding our choice of the sub-contractor and difficulties that arose because of a bad counter-top installation, Dan Cano and his colleague Jim were the consummate professionals and went out of their way to assist in fixing the problems that arose and completing the integration of the counter-tops to our complete satisfaction. Another issue arose because a provider of the white paint for our cabinets sent different paint and quot;sheensand quot; part way through the remodel that only became apparent on installation. Again, Dan and Jim re-did every cabinet and drawer that needed it until the paint work was fully integrated and matched. Their persistence in completing this project and the repainting of the cabinets until they were fully correct and matched was professional and without excuse. We have been involved with various remodels and construction over the years and the issue is not whether or not issues and difficulties will arise (they almost always will) but how they are dealt with. We give DC Cabinets very high marks for the professional way that they dealt with the challenges our remodel presented and for the end product and recommend them highly.
Description of Work: DC Cabinets built the cabinets and elements for an entire kitchen remodel and the remodel of two bathrooms including the construction of a built-in set of clothes cabinets and drawers in our master bathroom. The DC Cabinet work also included working with various sub-contractors to integrate the various electrical and counter-top elements into the build-out and installation of the cabinets.

Called Dan to get a quote on bathroom cabinets. He promptly showed the next day and was very upbeat about our design ideas. Really seemed to know his stuff. He's not just a cabinet maker, but also a general contractor. Unlike many of the other potential contractors that came to our home to give us a bid, Dan seemed genuinely interested in our project as a whole and wanted to help us out with any of our questions and needs. We decided that he was the right guy and hired him and his team of plumbers, electricians, carpenters, tile layers, and handy men. Our project finally got off the ground and really started moving after Dan got involved. All of the above mentioned contractors showed up that week to start and pretty much every day after. A very conscientious band of workers that take pride in their respective crafts. We were elated to say the least. Their work is top notch. The cabinets Dan made are beautiful and they fit perfectly. The tile work is amazing thanks to Karl and Sam. The two handymen/carpenters, Russ and Kenny, have great ideas and are able to tackle ANY remodeling snafu that comes up as well as any changes that my wife and I could throw at them. Dan the electrician (different Dan) was able to decipher a sixty year old spaghetti fiasco including low voltage and way outdated panels. Joe, the plumber is thorough, fast, and efficient. All are reasonably priced, especially when considering the quality of work that they give. We can't say enough good things. We are coming to the end of phase 1 and we couldn't be happier. Definitely, plan on using them for phase 2 (kitchen/living room). Good stuff.

This was a good experience. I gave Dan a drawing of what we thought we wanted. Dan came up with suggestions to give a better look and practicality. He came in a week before installation and installed the toe kicks so that we could have carpet installed, which was very accommodating. Installation went well as could be expected. It is difficult to install cabinets when the floor and walls in this house are not square, straight, or level.
Description of Work: This is our third project with Dan and company. He delivers what we ask for, is friendly and courteous. Dan also is very good about supplying names of other suppliers. This last project is a basement remodel for a recreation room. The cabinets will give us storage space for exercise equipment, notebooks, supplies, glasses and more.

We had an extensive kitchen remodeling project and got several bids for before going with Dan. The first bid came in at $90,000 -- wow, way out of our price range. When I talked to Dan to get his bid on cabinets, he explained that he was also a contractor but his true love was cabinets -- he suggested that I manage the project myself, and he could put me in touch with his subs for the electrical, plumbing, framing, tile, etc. I had already priced many things out so had an idea of cost and knew I could save a lot by managing it myself. So, I went with Dan. It worked for me because I work out of a home office, so I was always here when questions came up. We ended up getting a higher quality of cabinetry with Dan, worked with some really nice guys, and were able to stick with our original plan, design, and finishes -- all for a total of $52,000 (cabinets cost about $15,500). The kitchen is contemporary and very open now. Lower cabinets and 10 ft island are a walnut with dark espresso stain, and the upper cabinetry is white. I had worked with a kitchen designer earlier so had a pretty general idea of what I wanted. We wanted some rather unusual things, this wasn't just standard cabinetry that we were replacing. We have two 8-ft high cabinets that frame the ends of one wall of cabinetry, an 8-ft bookshelf on another wall, a bay window that we were covering but still wanted to keep the deep set counter. He listened to what I wanted and didn't try to change my mind like some of the other contractors tried to do -- he went with our plans and the finished product is wonderful. Dan took my plans, made some suggestions, showed me how the two-tone colors would look, came out several times to check on progress of subs and take more measurements, and everything came together beautifully. We LOVE our new kitchen. I wouldn't change a thing -- it's perfect.
Description of Work: Our project was an extensive kitchen remodel. It involved removing part of a load bearing wall, ceiling, installing an engineered beam, gutting the kitchen cabinetry, plumbing, electrical, tile floor, tile fireplace, carpet. We installed new hardwood floors, framed in a new tile fireplace, re-oriented the kitchen so had to move/get new plumbing, electrical, and gas. Sealed up a window, put in new cabinets, appliances, lighting, counters, backsplash, baseboards -- pretty much everything in the kitchen / hall / leading to the living room area.

Our experience was good, as Dan was willing to work with us during the process. We changed measurements, changed some of the door fronts from wood to glass (so the radio waves of the remote would operate without the doors being open), added a shelf, and tweaked several other details until we were satisfied with the design. We furnished the TV and other components, and Dan and Jim brought beautiful cabinets and set up the entire system for us. We are pleased with the results. One daughter who has been away just walked in and exclaimed and quot;Wow, this is really beautiful.and quot; We are pleased with the workmanship, and our new mahogany cabinets.
Description of Work: We wanted custom cabinetry for a new entertainment system in our existing home. We had an idea of what we needed, but wanted guidance on what would be possible in our space. Dan came to our home to get an overview, then took measurements, made suggestions, and drew out the ideas we all agreed upon. He and Jim built our cabinets and came to install them, along with the TV and other components we chose.

Dan Cano is the owner and he was great to work with. We built our home in 1998 so I have dealt with many contractors, big and small, since then and Dan was the best I have ever worked with. He called back when he said he would, came to the house when he said he would and when we had to make changes he made it work for us no matter how inconvenient it was for him. I asked to make a significant design change on the built-in shelves after they were partially installed. We worked out a fair way to do it without costing me much more money and even with the change-order the job got done on schedule. The custom dresser and daybed are pieces of furniture I'll take with me if I move or hand down to one of my children some day - very nice pieces.
Description of Work: I converted two conjoining bedrooms in my home to an office and a dressing room for myself. DC Cabinets designed and installed built-in bookshelves for the office. They also built a large custom dresser and daybed for the dressing room. They tore out the old closet and re-built that as well in the dressing room.
